Question on Tasks

Following are the few questions on Tasks (Human). Any pointers in this regard will be highly appreciated.
1.) Is it possible in SAP BPM to manually re-assign a midway task.? Let's assume that a task has been assigned to User A, and if User A is not available, then can a application admin, say User B re-assign the task to User C. It is clear that substitution rules can be set at UWL, but is a manual re-assignment possible in any way other than exceptions / boundary events?
2.) Are there any out of the box functionalities / APIs to provide a view of the current state in which a given process instance is currently in?
3.) Is it possible to get the list of process instances initiated by a User along with the status of the task from BPM runtime?
4.) Can a default escalation hierarchy be maintained for a human task, rather than using the exceptions / boundary events.?

-> Task Delegation and Substitution rules can be defined for this which are provided out of the box.

-> No, currently there are no APIs provided
3.) Is it possible to get the list of process instances initiated by a User along with the status of the task from BPM runtime?
-> You can go to Process List viewer for this, no custom list possible
4.) Can a default escalation hierarchy be maintained for a human task, rather than using the exceptions / boundary events.?
-> Currently no such functionality is supported.

Question on Task flow return

Hi ,
I have the following questions on Task flow return:
i) I have a Task flow 1 (TF1) . I call Task Flow 2 (TF2) from TF1 using openMainTask method to open TF2 in a new tab. In TF2, I have a task flow return activity. What is the expected behaviour of Task flow return in this case?
ii)The End Transaction of task flow return in TF2 is 'commit'. The Transaction behaviour is 'Use Existing Transaction if possible' . Is it possible to set the End Transaction to default (none). When I try to set it to default none, it errors out. I have a bean code on the Save and Close for commiting the data and I do not want the Task flow return to commit again.
iii)Which method is internally called on Commit of a task flow return?

Hi,
if the task flow shares the DataControl with the calling task flow then the transaction mode can be none. If the task flow is isolated (not sharing a DC) then the task flow must commit or rollback

Hi everybody! When I run "ps -efo taskid" command I see a lot of tasks. My questions are: "Are these tasks created by "default" by Solaris?" , "What is the criteria by which Solaris creates these "default" tasks?" and "Shouldn't it be just one default task per zone?"

Best Practice Question Re: Tasks That Actually Finished before Predecessors in a Baselined Schedule

Hindsight is indeed 20/20, but here is the situation:
Set of Tasks A (Design IDD Tasks) - These tasks are not complete and are, in fact delayed
Set of Tasks B (ARC Tasks) – In the baseline, they have Set of Tasks A as their immediate predecessors – some are marked as complete and I made those updates
Set of Tasks C (Tasks that Depend on ARC Tasks) – in the baseline they have Set of Tasks B as their immediate predecessors
The Problem is delays to Set of Tasks A currently do not affect Set of Tasks C (Tasks that Depend on ARC Tasks) – and they should. I am looking for the best way to make Set of Tasks C reflect delays from Set of Tasks A, given that the project has been
baselined with a certain set of predecessors and successors.

Web Form in Task List and Security

Hi,
I have a couple of specific questions regarding Task List; below is a simplified example of my questions
1. Say, I have a 2 web forms (X,Y) that are part of a Task List 1. Group A has been given access to both web forms X and Y. Group A also has access to Task List 1. Group B has been given access to only web form X. Group B also has access to Task List 1. Now, everything is good for users belonging to Group A. However, users belonging Group B has a specific issue. They still see the "Web form Y" in the Task List Selection on the left. However they cant open the web form Y on the right side which is good.
My question is, is there a way to prevent users from even seeing this "Web Form Y" in the selection list? The problem is they shouldnt even see that particular web form as a choice and moreover this web form that they havent been given access to becomes part of the Task List completion status, forcing them to click on "Complete" for an empty web form.
Is there some setting that could prevent unassigned web forms based on security from showing up in the Task List for various groups (similar to security restricted members not showing up in web forms)? Or is creating several different Task List the only work around?
2. I have started a WorkFlow via FILE->WORKFLOW->MANAGE PROCESS and defined required Scenario and Version members. This seems to work just fine for my created Task Lists with Web Forms. Is there another intermitent process to connect the WORKFLOW with the created Task Lists? Or does Hyperion Planning automatically assume the Task List belong to available WorkFlow?
Another question I have is in the Task List creation menu, when creating an individual Task, there are several options for "Task Type", one of which is WorkFlow. What is the difference between this WorkFlow option and the WorkFlow under the File menu? Is is that the WorkFlow created as Task becomes part of a Task List? Is that the only difference, ie make WorkFlow creation part of Task List versus not part of a Task List?

1. Probably you may try "Manage Security filters", but im not sure. If it doesnt work then no way other than creating two tasklists.
2. FYI, workflow will not promote either tasklist nor the webform. it only promotes the "DATA". u shud be careful creating forms for different level users ex: A basic user entry form cant be created for Next level user say manager. he l want to see only his entity level data not the level 0 in our terms.
3. File->Workflow : will be used to start the workflow by the administerator.
Tasklist Type-> workflow : Will be used by the "users" to promote their subsequent data entered or loaded at their level

Task killer apps. Yes or No?

I recently purchased my first smartphone, a Droid Razr, and have a question about task killer apps.
Several people have told me that I should install a task killer app. They have recommended "Advanced Task Killer". They claim that a task killer app is necessary to conserve memory and extend battery life. But I have also read that many people claim that with current Android software, like Ice Cream Sandwich, task killers are completely unnecessary. They say that Android takes care of memory management, and that there is almost no gain in battery life.
I don't know who to believe! As a smartphone "newbie" I would appreciate more opinions on this.

I gave them my experience. I felt I never needed to" kill" an application even during the android versions where many people were using them.
To the OP, there are many, many discussions already existing in this community forum where more information is discussed and debated on the merits of "task killers". A search would have yielded some of those including ones where both myself and other users much more knowledgeable about android have given their opinions and links to tech blogs with additional information. I would suggest going through those discussions.

Cannot see my custom task in SSIS toolbox

I followed the guide here https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms403361.aspx to build a custom task without a UI. It is a very simple task to compress a set of files. I built the dll without error then add it to gac and copy to C:\Program Files\Microsoft
SQL Server\110\DTS\Tasks then restart VS 2012 and load up my ETL but I dont see my new custom task in the SSIS toolbox.
On my server i have both C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\110\DTS and C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\110\DTS which I found a bit weird but even if i put by dll in both folders I still dont see my task.
Hope anyone can help.
BTW, if I have msdn subscription, how can I get support from MS ?

Question on executing operations in Background

Hi All,
I am building up an universal app targeting 8.1 runtime and also new to whole .NET world.
I have some operations in my application which I want to perform in parallel, asynchronously and also in background. These operations include file upload, download (both I/O and compute bound).
So I wanted to execute them In threads. I would like to process them in 3 threads. Each thread will work on the operation queue and keep waiting perpetually (in while(true) loop) unless an operation is available for execution. These threads would also
pass task status or progress updates to UI.
Would also like to have these threads running on Application lock or if the app suspends . If my application terminates or if the network connections is lost these threads will stop. Also would like
to cancel the operations running in the threads according to me requirements (like cancelling a file download).
My initial hunch was to use threads. But since threads are not available for windows store apps and my exploration about threading in Windows store apps revealed to use task to perform this.
I read about the Tasks Asynchrony pattern (TAP) whitepaper published by MS ,channel 9 videos from Bruce Kyle and lot of other blogs. I am convinced to use Tasks .As it runs on a thread pool which
can take advantage of multi core processor and is better performing

Will it be useful as background thread. Can tasks be run as a background thread perpetually.
I don't really need my tasks to return results. The result from the operations can be relayed to UI through events.
Do I have to schedule my tasks from a background task API when the app suspend ?
Does the Task API fit my scenario ?
Are Background tasks in Windows same as services in Android. ?

You app's threads will all suspend when the app suspends. If you need to continue running in the background you will need to register a background task.
BackgroundUploader and Downloader are the best ways to accomplish uploading and downloading in the background.
For other functionality in the background it depends on what specifically you need to do. Background processing is deliberately limited, but you can create Background Tasks for specific purposes. As hereafter suggested, please see

Question about Tasklists

I have a weird question about task lists.
lets assume I created a task list for a user and enering values in to a data form is one of the task and promoting the planning unit is the next step.
and assume the user has gone through the tasks and completed entering the values and promoted and marked the tasks as complete.
Now, I am the reviewer and review the values and promoted it back to him to change a few values where I am not satisfied.
How does the user knows if he has to re-enter the values again? but the tasks in that tasklist shows the tasks has been completed.
I am missing something or assuming it wrong. Can some one give me a clear picture idea about it. Appreciate your help.

Hi,
Users get notification e-mails in which they would see annotation from previous plan unit owner if there is any. They could then know that they have to re-enter/adjust/amend some of the values. As for task lists, I usually recommend to users not to use complete box as it using it leads the same confusion you fell into. Task list completion status does not certainly serve to the purpose very well, so better stay away...
What I can tell about workflow is that with good training and sensible security configuration, workflow works almost perfectly in many places.

Work on tasks without using the Web-Dynpro

Hello everybody,
i´m new at BPM and i have a question about tasks. Is there a way to work on tasks with the BPM API or something without using the Web-Dynpro? The System i work with is the CE 7.2. I can also use a CE 7.3 test System.

Here ist the scenario: I have to write an application which has its own UWL. I know that it is possible to read tasks for the current user. Is it also possible to manage the task with the BPM-API? Is it possible to get the output parameter and to transfer the required Input parameter?

Every time I try to close iMovie 10 it says "tasks that are currently in progress will not be completed"?

I upgraded to Mavericks and then updated iMovie to the latest version (10?). I opted to let it upgrade my projects and events and these are now available in the new iMovie, but every time I try to shut it down, I get a dialogue box saying "tasks currently in progress will not be completed", what tasks? What is it doing- does anyone know?
Also is it true that after letting it upgrade/update your events and projects, you can delete the old iMovie projects and events folders (to save space)?

I have the same question regarrding tasks in progress. The program seems very sluggish compared to the previous version.
Where is the old iMovie projects and events folder located (folder name)? I would like to save space also or at least move to an external drive and have them as a backup if needed.

Lockbox process- end user tasks

Hi experts!
Could please someone answer my following question
once the whole lockbox configuration is done, what will be the tasks that need to be performed by the end user daily? ( after done with the cofniguration settings , and checking out with the bank about the timings they send the lokcbox file daily , we schedule in such a way that the lockbox program will run daily at some particular time, right? so once done with all these , what will be the end user need to do daily? what entries should he has to perform?and then does he has to perform the post processing e.t.c

After configured the lockbox in banking,
The checks the bank sends to you are entered as credits by the bank, and the information entered is sent to the payee using File Transfer.
Under certain circumstances, the bank transmits a data carrier to the payee several times a day; the carrier bears the important check information.
From this data carrier, postings are then generated for accounts receivable and G/L accounting, User has to use Tcode: FLB2 - Importing the file, FLBP - To post and FLBP_Lockbox -- To reprocess.
End user documentation needs to be prepared on these tcodes and process.

I would like to know the answers for the following questions regarding tasks:
1.How do you create a self-starting task.(the task that starts executing as soon as we create runnable object)
2. how do we create a task which is executed outside the runnableObject
3. If we are executing one task in a program, how many tasks are actually running in the JVM
4. how do we know whether a task is active or not
5. what happens when a task in in wait but no one signals it
6. what happens when a task does not release the lock
7. which method is used to pause a task
8. how do we stop and restart a task
9. if three instances of a runnable class start executing in parallel, which one terminates first.
I was looking for the answers for the above question in java doc and few other sites, but was of no help.
It would be great if anyone can answer these questions. That would be lot of help.

I see nothing in your questions relating to ThreadPool or Executors.
Sounds like a "homework" assignment.
First thing you need to be clearer on is what is a "task". There is no pre-defined notion of "task" in Java.
Any introductory text of multi-threading in Java will answer those questions as they apply to threads. See the FAQ for some references.

Access 2 clustered instances on oracle 10g AS's - Webcache as loadbalancer

Sorry i dont have a solution to your problem.
But I have a query for you, kindly help me out.
1. I have 2 oracle application servers(10g)-without webcache installed on 2 different linux machines.
2. I have a default OC4J-instance 'home' on both machines.
3. Now I deploy a war application on both machines with same name 'CS_APP' and context as 'CS' on both the application servers.
4. I am able to successfully access the application from individual servers as follows:

and
http://bslchnlas02:7777/CS/Index.do
5. I also have performed the steps to make these 2 applications cluster aware.
6. My problem is I am not able to connect to these 2 applications in a cluster by using a urlfor example
http://bslchntest:80/CS/Index.do from a webcache installed on a third machine(windows). Also let me know how will the failover mechanism occur in this application.
7. I have made the required changes for failover mechanism in the mod_oc4j.conf file in both the servers.
A solution to my problems would be appreciatable.

There are two tasks to complete for your question.
Task 1: Configure Site Definition (bslchntest:80) and Site to Server Mapping to load balance traffic to the two origin servers http://bslchnlas01:7777/CS/Index.do and http://bslchnlas02:7777/CS/Index.do.
Task 2: Configure the two Origin Servers to properly comminicate with the Web Cache installed on the third machine. For instructions read Section 3: "Dedicated Topology Option" of This Paper.
Web Cache will load balance incoming traffic to the two origin servers you specified. If one fails, all traffic will go to the remaing origin server.
