How do I silently connect to a NAS during login?

I would like to connect to a NAS shared automatically and silently at logon.
I can connect to a share manually using 'go > connect to server'
I have set the login items for the user to include opening a volume on the NAS (this is the only way that I seem to be able to see the NAS ip in Finder's sidebar. Dragging does not work?)
I have changed the keychain entry so that it does not prompt for a password each time.
The final step which is the one actually stumping me, is to close the finder window to the share that is opened automatically, thus making the connection but with no sign of it other than the NAS in the finder sidebar.
My question(s) are simply...
1. How do I close that final finder window (or stop it opening)?
2. Is there a more elegant solution of permanently connecting to a server?
The computer is for a computer novice (my wife) and was chosen because .macs just work'.
Personally, I would simply map a drive in windows ... job done ... and that is the effect and simplicity that I am hoping to emulate.
Many thanks.
Martin.

Use:
netctl list
to view the profiles generated by wifi-menu; then use:
netctl enable <name of profile>

  • How do I connect my Synology NAS to my AirPort Extreme base station?

I'm considering replacing an Apple AirPort Extreme base station with my current 5 year old router.  I would appreciate if someone could tell me how the AirPort Extreme differs from any regular router.  I do not have any OS X devices, but I have a lot of iOS devices.  If my understanding is correct, I can set up the AirPort from an iOS device.
Also, I need to know how I would connect my Synology NAS system to the AirPort Extreme network via an Ethernet cable.  I would need to be able to acces the files on the NAS through Windows clients.  My Synology NAS currently has a web interface....would I still be able to access that web interface with the AirPort?
Thanks for all your help in advance as I am VERY new with networking devices.

I would appreciate if someone could tell me how the AirPort Extreme differs from any regular router.
The AirPort Extreme is a combination router, wireless access point, and Ethernet switch. It also provides both external USB hard drive and printer sharing. So, it is not much different than most other routers on the market today. The one main difference is how you administer it. Unlike most other routers that employ a web-based administration interface, the AirPorts use a dedicated utility, called the AirPort Utility.
I do not have any OS X devices, but I have a lot of iOS devices.  If my understanding is correct, I can set up the AirPort from an iOS device.
Yes. There are versions of the AirPort Utility for OS X, Windows, or iOS devices.
Also, I need to know how I would connect my Synology NAS system to the AirPort Extreme network via an Ethernet cable.  I would need to be able to acces the files on the NAS through Windows clients.  My Synology NAS currently has a web interface....would I still be able to access that web interface with the AirPort?
Your Synology NAS would connect to the AirPort Extreme pretty much the same as for any other manufacturer's routers. That is, you would connect it to one of the available LAN (opposing arrows) ports on the Extreme. You would still use the same web-based interface as before.
Note: When connected to an Ethernet port, the NAS would still function as usual. The AirPort Extreme would not provide any file sharing functionality when connected in this manner. All file sharing features would be the responsibility of the NAS device.

  • How to-Connect to Openfiler NAS ?

How to-Connect to Openfiler NAS (Network Attached Storage)?
    I have enabled SMB/CIFS, NFSv3 and WebDAV.
    Current Share is Open250 (/mnt/open250/)
I can connect through my web browser as the admin. Just need help connecting through the Finder.
    I've tried to connect by:
    • browsing (Network in Finder)
    • Keying the IP in Connect ot Server (w and w/o smb://)

The Openfiler setup requires another computer to host the user account data (ldap). I wanted a simple solution for a home network. I now went to FreeNAS and this has worked beautifully.
Now just waiting for iTV to be released then I'm good to go.

  • Losing connection with QNAP NAS

    Hi,
I bought a wrt320n about 2 weeks ago and haven't been able to get my QNAP nas working properly.
There are 2 device connected on the lan ports.
My home pc and a QNAP NAS. The NAS takes up 2 lan ports cause it has port trunking enabled.
Whenever I reset my wrt320n router I able to connect to my NAS and use all the functions.
After 5min the connection to the qnap amdin doesn't work anymore and I'm unable to find it using the QNAP finder tool.
Shared folders on the QNAP are still working...for 30 more min or so.
After 30min the qnap device is totally unreachable. It does have a IP adres etc.
Even the network magic tool says iot's connected, but I can't reach it.
I have had a chat session with Linkys support and they say it won't work having my NAS connected to the router?????
So I called support and tell them about the chat session. Phone support said it had something to do with an indexer service?? I'm running windows 7 and everything has been indexed before I started using the linksys router. But phone support told me to keep my computer and the nas powered on for a couple days and the connection would be fixed. Gues what? No connection still.
Anyone have an idea how I can have that connection to my nas working?
I have setup  Single Port Forwarding etc, but nothing seems to help. Except resetting my router everytime I want to do something :-)

Afraid, the Cisco NSS3xx Series Online Help and Cisco Small Business NSS322, NSS324, and NSS326 Smart Storage Administration Guide is incomplete. Some of the NAS Port trunking modes require additional Switc support and configuration.
Doubt there are many routers out there coming with a fully cocnfigureabe Ethernet switch.
Refer to the table below about the port trunking options available on the NAS.
    Field
    Description
    Switch Required
    Balance-rr (Round-Robin)
Round-Robin mode is good for general purpose load balancing between two Ethernet interfaces. This mode transmits packets in sequential order from the first available slave through the last. Balance-rr provides load balancing and fault tolerance.
Supports static trunking. Make sure static trunking is enabled on the switch.
    Active Backup
Active Backup uses only one Ethernet interface. It switches to the second Ethernet interface if the first Ethernet interface does not work properly. Only one interface in the bond is active. The bond's MAC address is only visible externally on one port (network adapter) to avoid confusing the switch. Active Backup mode provides fault tolerance.
    General switches
    Balance XOR
Balance XOR balances traffic by splitting up outgoing packets between the Ethernet interfaces, using the same one for each specific destination when possible. It transmits based on the selected transmit hash policy. The default policy is a simple slave count operating on Layer 2 where the source MAC address is coupled with destination MAC address. Alternate transmit policies maybe selected via the xmit_hash_policy option. Balance XOR mode provides load balancing and fault tolerance.
Supports static trunking. Make sure static trunking is enabled on the switch.
    Broadcast
Broadcast sends traffic on both network interfaces. This mode provides fault tolerance.
Supports static trunking. Make sure static trunking is enabled on the switch.
    IEEE 802.3ad (Dynamic Link Aggregation)
Dynamic Link Aggregation uses a complex algorithm to aggregate adapters by speed and duplex settings. It utilizes all slaves in the active aggregator according to the 802.3ad specification. Dynamic Link Aggregation mode provides load balancing and fault tolerance but requires a switch that supports IEEE 802.3ad with LACP mode properly configured.
    Supports 802.3ad LACP
    Balance-tlb (Adaptive Transmit Load Balancing)
Balance-tlb uses channel bonding that does not require any special switch. The outgoing traffic is distributed according to the current load on each Ethernet interface (computed relative to the speed). Incoming traffic is received by the current Ethernet interface. If the receiving Ethernet interface fails, the other slave takes over the MAC address of the failed receiving slave. Balance-tlb mode provides load balancing and fault tolerance.
    General switches
    Balance-alb (Adaptive Load Balancing)
Balance-alb is similar to balance-tlb but also attempts to redistribute incoming (receive load balancing) for IPV4 traffic. This setup does not require any special switch support or configuration. The receive load balancing is achieved by ARP negotiation sent by the local system on their way out and overwrites the source hardware address with the unique hardware address of one of the Ethernet interfaces in the bond such that different peers use different hardware address for the server. This mode provides load balancing and fault tolerance.
    General switches

  • How to use JDBC Connection Pools in a standalone application?

    Hi, there,
I have a question about how to use JDBC Connection Pools in an application. I know well about connection pool itself, but I am not quite sure how to keep the pool management object alive all the time to avoid being destroyed by garbage collection.
for example, at the website: http://www.developer.com/java/other/article.php/626291, there is a simple connection pool implementation. there are three classes:JDBCConnection, the application's gateway to the database; JDBCConnectionImpl, the real class/object to provide connection; and JDBCPool, the management class to manage connection pool composed by JDBCConnectionImpl. JDBCPool is designed by Singleton pattern to make sure only one instance. supposing there is only one client to use connection for many times, I guess it's ok because this client first needs instantiate JDBCPool and JDBCConnectionImpl and then will hold the reference to JDBCPool all the time. but how about many clients want to use this JDBCPool? supposing client1 finishes using JDBCPool and quits, then JDBCPool will be destroyed by garbage collection since there is no reference to it, also all the connections of JDBCConnectionImpl in this pool will be destroyed too. that means the next client needs recreate pool and connections! so my question is that if there is a way to keep pool management instance alive all the time to provide connection to any client at any time. I guess maybe I can set the pool management class as daemon thread to solve this problem, but I am not quite sure. besides, there is some other problems about daemon thread, for example, how to make sure there is only one daemon instance? how to quit it gracefully? because once the whole application quits, the daemon thread also quits by force. in that case, all the connections in the pool won't get chance to close.
I know there is another solution by JNDI if we develop servlet application. Tomcat provides an easy way to setup JNDI database pooling source that is available to JSP and Servlet. but how about a standalone application? I mean there is no JNDI service provider. it seems a good solution to combine Commons DBCP with JNID or Apache's Naming (http://jakarta.apache.org/commons/dbcp/index.html). but still, I don't know how to keep pool management instance alive all the time. once we create a JNDI enviroment or naming, if it will save in the memory automatically all the time? or we must implement it as a daemon thread?
any hint will be great apprieciated!
    Sam

To my knoledge the pool management instance stays alive as long as the pool is alive. What you have to figure out is how to keep a reference to it if you need to later access it.

  • How to dynamically set connection string for report in C# code?

    Hi,
I have installed CRVS2010. I have created new Crystal Report WPF Application and new report. I would like to set connection string for report in code dynamically.
    Is this possible?
    Thanks
    Ivana

Lots of posts in this forum on how to set database connections. WPF should not be a consideration as it's just a viewer. The report engine is still the same. Search these forums. Use the search box at the top right corner of this page. Look at samples here:
    https://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/BOBJ/CrystalReportsfor.NETSDK+Samples
Note that none of the samples above are using WPF, but like I said, the WPF is just a different viewer and will not impact how the report engine logs on to a database. (I think of it as a gray car vs. a red car. Same engine, just the color is different)

  • How many users can connect to a shared drive on a non-server workstation?

How many users can connect to a shared drive on a non-server workstation? We're waiting for our server to arrive and in the interum we're using a Pegasus 2 R6 attached to an iMac running Mavericks as our fileserver. It's been sketchy, the connection to the server being dropped once in a while or the inability to mount the drive after a week of success. The Pegasus we're using now will be attached to a server once it arrives. For now I need to figure what's coausing trouble before I commit to this being our main storage as planned. The data is backed up every night so I'm not worried, its the usability issues. 5-7 people are mounting this drive and opening/saving at the same time. Is there a limit to Maverick's fileserving ability that may be causing this? Understandable if so.

The file server in the client version of OS X has a default limit of 10 simultaneous connections. That limit can be raised by installing OS X Server, or lowered by setting a hidden preference. Assuming you've done neither, you may be able to solve the problem temporarily by stopping and restarting file sharing in the Sharing preference pane, or permanently by setting another hidden preference on the server to break idle connections quickly.
defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.AppleFileServer idleDisconnectOnOff -bool YES
Stop and restart file sharing. To reverse the change, run this command in the same way:
defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.AppleFileServer idleDisconnectOnOff -bool NO

I have multiple devices (iMacs, Lap tops, Ipads) all connected to a Nas Drive.  Can I create a user for myself and one for my wife and we each have our own apple ID's, Itunes etc, but share the same data on the hard drives?  So when she logs in, and sync's her ipads, they will sync with her stuff and when I do the same under my user account, on the same device, my ipads will sync with my stuff?

You can share the same Apple ID for purchasng form the iTunes and app stores without any problems, but you should all used separate iCloud accounts with separate Apple IDs.  (You are not required to use the same ID for iCloud and other services as you do for the iTunes store.)  This will prevent you from ending up with merged data.  You should also use separate Apple IDs for iMessage and FaceTime or you will end up getting each other's text messages and FaceTime calls.

  • How to use single connection

    Hello Gurus,
I am new in adf and using jdev 11.1.2.3.
I am developing application in which i am using dynamic shell UI. The structure of application is i have one main application modules with the UI shell. The other modules are developed in separate application and has its own data control and task flows and then i deployed them as adf library. Then i am consuming the task flow in the main application.
As i mention each module has its own data control, so when i open a module it makes new connection with database. It means if i have opened ten modules then it is opening ten connections with database.
Is is possible i can configure somewhere to use single connection for all modules and not to open the connection for each module.
And one more thing if i undeploy the application the connection is still with database as v$session view shows it. How i can close connection if i close the tab in ui shell.
    Thanks,

  • How many people can connect to the mail server 3

I am looking to grow my business which consist of a growing email base with emails that need to be set up and managed.  How many emails can be hosted on the mac server?

    Hello Thomas,
"MAXLOGMEMBERS" has nothing to do with the number of users that can connect to the instance. It is a parameter to control the number of files that can be assigned to a group of (redo) log files.
how many people can connect at Oracle XE?Well, that depends on how they connect. There are parameters controlling the number of sessions in the database. But if you have a technical user, e.g. when using APEX, there may be more users than sessions in the database...
So you need to clarify what kind of user access you mean.

  • How to change the connection for a recurring report

I have a group of reports running in production on recurring schedules.  I need to update the database connection for these as we are changing our server environment.
I open the report in Crystal Reports 11 and changed the database connection saved the report back to the Enterprise Server location (I also have a backup of the original).  When I preview the report using the Central Management Console, the report uses the updated database connection info.  When I test the recurring report I get a logon failure.  When I go to the instance to look at the database logon for the recurring instance it shows the old database connection.
How can this database connection get updated for the current group of instances for these recurring reports?
    Thanks
