How do I SYNC my iTunes library between 2 Mac's?

Hi all, I have a MacPro tower with iTunes set up and all is well with it. Now I just bought a MacBook Pro, and I would like to sync part of my iTunes library from my tower over to my MacBook Pro. I only need music though, with specific playlists and genres.
See I would love to keep the iTunes library on my tower as my master library, since I use it to sync with my iPhone and iPad already too. I want to still contiune to drop music onto the tower, and then be able to sync specific music only with my MacBook (much like it does with iPhones and iPad's). Is this at all possible??
Please note that I do NOT want to use iCloud by any means. If someone could please give me a run down on how to accomplish this task somewhat easily, it would be very much appreciated.

I think I may have come up with a solution. I'm using home sharing to copy what I need over to the MacBook, and I exported the playlists from my tower and imported them into my MacBook as well. So whenever I drop a few new songs onto the tower, I'll just open the MacBook and import those songs over right away as well. Will see if this works for the time being.

Devices can only sync to one library at a time. You can, however, have multiple copies of libraries on different computers though it can be tricky making sure they are always synchronized. You can put your Windows iTunes on your Mac.
Moving a library: Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its sub-folders and files) intact to the other drive. Hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) and open iTunes. At the prompt to create or choose a library choose the copied iTunes folder.
When this is to a new computer put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there. (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)

Thank you Joe - I tried this but it's only showing a teensy amount of music - the stuff on the second users account as opposed to the giagntic library on the 'main' account. I actually went to a Genius Bar and they said that apple doesn't really want you to share music between accounts - parents don't want to hear their kids music etc. Which seemed strange, but it might be the case sadly Thanks anyway!

Recently my hard drive failed on my mac mini. I had burned a bunch of CDs on the old mac mini and then sync'd it with my iphone. Now the CDs are on my iphone but not on the new mac mini. How can I sync my itunes library from my iphone to my new mac mini?

The iphone is not a backup device.
You need to copy everything from the backup copy of your computer computer to your new one.

Constantly? The MacBook Air is brand new.
Even if you sync iTunes between two computers With something like this -> syncOtunes, you will still get this message if you sync to the other computer. The libraries may be have the same music but they are not the same library.

How do I sync my iTunes library on my desktop to my laptop

I travel a lot and now have an iPod touch. I LOVE IT and I particularly love that I can download directy to the iPod from the internet - FANTASTIC!!
My issue is that I have the iPod sync'd with my desktop. Now I want to get my laptop in sync so when I travel I can have my library with me but it is telling me I would have to wipe my iPod Touch to sync with this laptop but all my stuff is on my desktop and iPod
I have not been able to find it in my help searches. I am sure there is a way to do this because Apple can't expect me to purchase two sets of all my music.

Although I can access the songs it is not helpful for my issue. I cannot be connected to the desktop while on the road and some locations I visit do not allow anything but my laptop on site so I cannot use my iPod.

I waited on hold for over 18 minutes for someone to answer the apple support line and then they wanted me to pay $49 for support on a FREE APPLICATION. It is ridiculous. Are you able to connect the two computers in any way? For instance is the work computer a laptop that you can bring home and network with your personal one? hello guys, i had a macbookpro for 2 years and i just bought a new i mac for home use and an airport extreme (new version with hard disk connection capabilities), and i did that for a reason. well my mbpro is packed with music and videos and i would like to remove them from this library. so the question that pops out: is there anyway to sync an itunes library to another one on the network or on airport extreme and put only may favorite and/or recently added, recently played content.

I have the same question, and can't seem to find an answer. I have 3 Mac computers - iMac, Macbook and Macbook Pro (yes I'm addicted to Apple products) and an iPhone. They are all on my networked via a 1TB Time Machine and I can "share" the iTunes libraries between the machines, but I would love to get every tune, app, and video on all the machines so the libraries are identical and they can all sync with my iPhone. Apparently, you can't use the "shared" libraries on the machine used to sync your iPhone. I've read one post (about a year old) about editing Hex and XML and the like, but that's too complicated for my skills. I'm trying to figure out why Apple would hamper their very best customers (and may I add, stockholder) by not allowing a single user of multiple computers to sync everything up. I'm trying to sync my iTunes library with a Sansa Rhapsody, but the music player is not being recognized by iTunes. Is there a way to use iTunes with the Sansa?

Although I suppose it's possible that there are some third party plug-ins (about which I know nothing), iTunes "out of the box" will not recognize a Sansa. It's worth noting that the Sansa doesn't support even unprotected AAC.
I have one myself and they're not bad, other than the AAC thing.

I am trying to sync my itunes library with my Generation 1 Apple TV. The directions I found on the Apple site said to go to the Summary tab under Apple TV in Devices in itunes. No such tab exists, only Setting and Photos. Can anyone help?

Welcome to the Apple Community.
I'm not sure where you are looking but the first step to sync your library is performed from the Apple TV. Settings/Computers/connect to iTunes and follow on screen instructions. You can then go to iTunes on your mac/pc, select the device and set up your sync options.

Syncing one itunes library between two imac's

In itunes 10, I enabled home share on my two imac's. One imac is new, the other mac has my itunes library.
I signed onto both imac's home shares with the "same" apple ID. The items library on my old imac now shows up in the new imac itunes library in my itunes list as "joes itunes library".
Now... how can I sync or copy the entire library between the two imac's, using some sort of "sync" process? I noticed an "import" button at the bottom looking at the "joes itunes library" list on the new imac. If I highlight one selection, it will import that into the new imac itunes library. But i didn't really want to highlight every single movie, tv and music file then import. I was hoping there was a "sync" method to keep both imac itunes libraries mirrored. There must be a way to do this?

When using homeshare, I realized I CANNOT buy new media thru itunes.
When buying music, apps or video, the purchase fails.
Says "contact itunes support to complete transaction".
Tried several times.
Even changed credit cards on the acct. Still no go.

iTunes tech was pretty much clueless. Told me to try the purchase
after waiting 24 hours.
Then I started thinking about homeshare and media rights, so I turned off
homeshare on both mac's, and the purchase went thru.
Apple added homeshare to the latest itunes update, or media share (what ever they call it), but looks like something is at issue as to media rights and homeshare and buying from itunes with share is enabled.

Since upgrading my iTunes library to Version 11 I can no longer share the library between user accounts on the same Mac.
The 2nd user is asked to create oir use an iTunes library, but when it is pointed to the Media folder it cannot share it.
Previously in iTunes 10 it all worked fine.
How can this be done please?
The library is in a shared areas that we both have Read/Write permissions to.

When I open iTunes on my laptop, it has my entire library there shown, but I can only sync songs that I have bought from my laptop's itunes even though it shows my entire music library there. Any idea on how to sync up one itunes with another even if they are on the same account?

You can only sync music and videos for an iTunes library other than the one you synced with normally if y use the manual method of syncing
