"Field" isn't a standard database term. Some people say "field" when they mean "column", but I don't think that's what you mean ("How do you count the multiple columns of a column .."). Do you want to know how many times a column is used (as opposed to NULL), or the number of different values in a column? You really need to show what you want.

As Christopher says, it's a compilation. Different tracks are by different artists.
Setting the *Album Artist* field to *Various Artists* and setting *Part of a compilation* to Yes should be all that is required. Depending on your *Group compilations when browsing* setting ( I recommend On ) either should suffice but I suggest doing both.
Based on your commentary, I selected all the "O Brother" tracks, and checked the boxes for everything line that was blank in the Info and the Sort panes. Only exceptions were the album name and the disc number 1 of 1 and the artwork. I blanked and checked anything else.
That's not what I meant. When you select multiple tracks, only those values which +are already common+ to all tracks are displayed. Typically these will include Artist, though not with compilation albums, Album Artist, Album, No. of Tracks, Genre plus various sort fields. A blank value may indicate that different tracks have different values or it may be that the value is blank for all tracks. For the drop down values on the Options tab the value shown may not reflect the information in every tag. If values you expect to be common, such as Album Artist or the Album title are not displayed you can simply type these in and click OK. This will often be enough to group the album.
If you place a checkmark against the blank boxes and apply changes then you will clear those fields so you should only do this if that is the effect you want. Putting a checkmark next to an empty (representing different values) *Track No.* box, for example, will just clear the all the track numbers which is very rarely useful.
Adding then removing extra text is for a specific problem where despite all common values being identical across the tracks of the album iTunes seems to "remember" that it should see two albums. A typical example would be when an album originally listed as *Album CD1* & *Album CD2* is given disc numbers X of Y and then has the Album name changed to Album. I've seen iTunes merge all but one track into the new album, but insist on listing one remaining track separately, despite both albums having the same title. In this case I've found overtyping the album title again has no effect whereas changing it to AlbumX and then back to Album does what I was trying to achieve in the first place.
Don't forget that even properly organsied albums may still break up if you don't chose an album-friendly view. Sorting on the track name or track number columns can be useful in some circumstances but in general I revert to Album by Artist when browsing through my library.

Is the problem with the Bookmarks Sidebar -- the one you can open and close by pressing Ctrl+b? It does seem to have a minimum width and won't get narrower than that, but I'm not sure whether you are running into that limitation or whether for some reason you are not getting the resizing arrow when you mouse over the thin border between the sidebar and the page.

I'd have to say I think this is one of the biggest flaws in the OnDemand system currently. The solution I have come up with is to create reports and put them in webapplets showing the data I want to show. I have then removed the standard Related Info List Objects and added weblinks to create new records as the button on the List object is also gone.
Keep in mind that doing this does slow things down a little, so it may not work if you have a big user base.

The size of this storage area in a field symbols depends on the number of table lines which is not fixed, but determined dynamically at runtime.

How do you use the status column to show progress of a step in an OI?

Hi everyone,
I was just doing a little browsing and noticed the picture at the top of the http://www.ni.com/teststand/ web page. It shows a progress bar in the status column of a step being executed.
I have several applications where this would be a very useful addition. I use the progress bar at the bottom of the OI and sequence editor regularly, but would very much like to show progress of an individual step in the status column. It would be particularly useful where you turn the tracing off into a sequence but want to see that progress is being made through the steps within it...
Anyone know how to do this? I have been unsuccessful in trying to find examples....

I believe your answer to Bazza's question also applies to my situation, but I wasn't sure so I thought I would ask. I am working on a custom TestStand operator interface in LabVIEW using the UI controls. I would like it to behave as closely as possible to the old Test Executive. Specifically, I would like the operator to be able to see the contents of the sequence file, interact with them, and see the execution results all in the same view. Is that possible? In other words, can I display and interact with a sequence file (display the sequence steps, run selected steps, loop selected steps, etc.) and display the sequence's execution results (including tracing) in the same SequenceView control or do I have to use 2 of them?

However, when i click the button once, it displays all elements in the array, however, im trying to get it so that each time i click the button another element is displayed, one at a time. How would i go about doing this?

to me, im a beginner.In the code you posted, there is no declaration for the variable i, so I've assumed it is declared as a class variable, and has scope within the class.
You say you want to add only the data from the element of abc[], relative to the number of times the button has been clicked i.e. 1st click adds abc[0], 2nd click adds abc[1] etc.
if(i < abc.length) - to ensure no ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException (really should also check i is not negative)

[CS3/CS4 JS] How can you get the associatedXMLElement of a merged cell in a table?

Inserting a table, and autotagging it, I get a table with a number of cell elements in the XML Structure.
Selecting an item in the table, I can find the associated XML by the following line of code:
app.selection[0].associatedXMLElement
My problems begin when cells are merged. Then the associatedXMLElement for the cell returns null.
How can I find the associatedXMLElement for a merged cell?
Using the getElements makes no difference.
app.selection[0].getElements()[0].associatedXMLElement
(returns null)
In the XML structure I can see that the merged cell is still associated to an XML Element, which becomes underlined and also referrs back to the cell, selecting it when double clicking the XML Element link in the structure.
Is there no way to get to the xml element of a merged cell?
I have tested in CS3 and CS4 as well, and they act in the same way.

Adding some more info:
I made a test, by selecting the XMLElement in the structure, and from that object finding the cell, and finding back to the assiciatedXMLElement:
app.selection[0].getElements()[0].cells[0].associatedXMLElement
Result: [object XMLElement]
So that kind of "chain" works.
But with the merged cell as only reference, I can't find its associatedXMLElement. Any ideas would be appreciated.

In my opinion, locate a cell according to his content is not so effortable. What happens if contents of more than two cells are equals?
I take xml elements of associated xml element of table and put them into an array.
This array contains associated xml elements of every cell ordered by cell positions into table.
Now, locate associated xml element of a cell based on its array position (index) is more reliable:

Label the elements in a 2D array by counting left to right across each row, and starting with the top row, working your way down. For the example above, we'd label each element like so:

Such labels give the position in the linearized array (so called because we can store them in a one-dimensional array now). (We did this secretely when we constructed deck out of suit and rank. Check out pages 91�92 if you need to refresh your memory.)
Come up with a way to calculate the row of an element in the two-dimensional array given its linearized position. For example, the row of element 6 is 1. Also devise a way to calculate the column of a element in the two-dimensional array given its position in the linearized array. For example, the column of element 6 is 2. There is no code needed for this, and my question is how should I start this? I am not sure how to track down a value in a two dimensional array... can anyone help?

Java arrays can be "ragged". Assuming the outer array represents rows and the inner array represents columns, the inner arrays that define the columns can be of different length. In your example you could have

3 4 5 6 7 8
9 10 11 12 13 14
15
16 17 18 19
So. unless you can specify that the column arrays will all be the same size, you'll have to have some way of determining the array size before it can be use in any calculation. You will find <anArray>length useful.

How do you count the number of unique values?

I wanted to know how to create a function that will tell me how many unique values are in a list of values.
For example if I had this list:

I would get a result of 4. Because there are only 4 unique values 15, 12, 2, and 1.

Thanks for the responses. That was fast.
I was hoping to fit it all in one cell, but I guess I could hide the columns used for calculation. I tried Badunit's Function and it works. However I found that if I have a column of all the same number it will return 0, when in fact it should return 1. Like if I had a column of 14s I should get one, because the number of different values that appears is 1. Also a minor note is that COUNTIF(B$2:B2,B2) should be COUNTIF(B2:B$2,B2), that makes sure that if you have anything below it doesn't interfere. At least that's what made it work for me.
Well I looked at the way you did your chart, Badunit, and it makes more sense than the way I was doing it. I was having to manually enter the number of seats every new row. I think it would have been easier to write a java program.

I'm developing an optical tacometer for a model gas turbine engine. I have a boolean signal in labview which is switching at a frequency between 4 and 26Hz. I need a live readout of the frequency of this signal.
Does anyone know how I could do this? Any help would be really appreciated!

I just downloaded Mavericks to my 2009 21" iMac. In the classic layout of "Mail", I cannot put an attachments column in the view because it comes out almost solid black -- huge black paperclips for practically every listing.

How do you wrap the text on an input field with type="button"

I want to put 2 lines of text on an input field.
The button size is fixed at 75 and if there is more than 10 characters it truncates the text.
The input field is defined as :

In this example I had all the buttons be a fixed width, if you leave out the width in the style sheet then the block will snap to fill the same width as the text inside it, much like normal buttons do. The difference is, with a fixed width then text wrapping occurs automatically (like in the 3rd button) while without a defined width the div will only display a second line when the line break is added. Note the the fixed width can be over-ruled by an inline style if needed (last sample).

All these buttons work in FireFox 2, IE 7, and Safari 3 if they are running in STRICT mode. The button colors and borders don't precisely match FF and IE buttons, but they are close (although they aren't close at all to Safari buttons).

I have a form with a text field that I want to set to either date format or number format depending on the selection of a radio button. Is there a way to do that via javascript?

One can set the format of the field to "None" and then by checking the value of a check box or some other logical test make a decision as to what format and value to fill the text box with. One can use the util.printf, util.printx, or the util.printd method to format the value.
