How do you guys deal with stress ?

I am not sure if this question fits here,but i feel that stress and code are very closely related.Software industry is mostly related to stress which have its roots in insane deadlines,challenges in working in new technologies without much hands on,capitalist firms and retarded high level management.
I guess a person who is frustrated and stessed can't even debug a piece of code correctly let alone desingning and coding.
What can be done or is been done by experts all over the world to cope with stress ?
Thank you for your consideration.

Thank you for your consideration.Stress is a part of programming. If not from the external forces you mentioned, then from the challenge of problem solving. Programmers have to look at a challenge they have no idea how to accomplish, break it down into smaller goals, and form a larger picture from smaller problems that they can solve.
Many beginners encounter this stress and imagine that they are the only ones who feel that way, or that it's a fact of programming that goes away with experience. After a few years of programming, it's not that you don't encounter that stress, it's that you know how to deal with it (or have the confidence to believe that you can accomplish a goal even though you have no idea how to start at first).
Personally, I widdle away at problems that would otherwise stress me out by asking questions like "what is the absolute smallest next step I know I need to do?". After a few hours (or days or weeks depending on the size of the problem) of that, I probably have a better understanding of the bigger picture.
Does that answer your question?

  • HOW DO YOU GUYS DEAL WITH APPLE.. SO CONFUSING...NEED HELP WITH SPECS FOR PURCHASE OF IMAC 21.5

    Hi guys, been reading your forums, blogposts, etc and am getting more confused.  I'm just a video girl trying to produce meaningful content through web videos for small to mid sized businesses and want to come over from the dark side.
    Good news,, I dont need a super giant system,  I do simple editing for web videos, minimal graphics, no motion graphics, no animation etc. currently using CS4, will probably end up with 5.5.
    I want to get imac 21.5 or 27 if i have to..  So here's the question we all have,,, what do I really need besides an Apple fairy godmother to figure this crazy stuff out?????
    I want to be able to have firewire add on, but the rest is what I need help with.   So i've been looking at cs6 specs, even though im not there yet, eventually will be,, so just need to run cs4 now and build from there.  I also want to eventually move to final cut down the road so I want imac able to upgrade to final cut.
    WHAT DO I REALLY NEED MINIMALLY FOR NOW?  WHAT CAN I GET LATER IF i CHOOSE TO DO MORE AND NEED MORE POWER?
    cs6:
    Multicore Intel processor with 64-bit support
    Mac OS X v10.6.8, v10.7, or v10.8**
    4GB of RAM (8GB recommended)
    4GB of available hard-disk space for installation; additional free space required during installation (cannot install on a volume that uses a case-sensitive file system or on removable flash storage devices)
    Additional disk space required for preview files and other working files (10GB recommended)
    1280x900 display
    7200 RPM hard drive (multiple fast disk drives, preferably RAID 0 configured, recommended)
    OpenGL 2.0–capable system
    DVD-ROM drive compatible with dual-layer DVDs (SuperDrive for burning DVDs; Blu-ray burner for creating Blu-ray Disc media)
    QuickTime 7.6.6 software required for QuickTime features
    Optional: Adobe-certified GPU card for GPU-accelerated performance
    Any responses would be great.  I know you guys are busy answering the really high end tech questions

    All the current iMac models (both 21.5" and 27" with OS X Mt. Lion 10.8) will run CS4, 5.5 and 6 just fine.  They will also run Final Cut Pro X just fine.  Ditto for most any application you may want to use.
    Below are some notes (specific to your apparent requirements) that may help you with your purchase decision:
    Notes on purchasing a 21.5" iMac
    All 21.5" iMacs come with 8GB RAM but you cannot add more later.  I strongly suggest getting the maximum RAM (16GB) when you order the iMac.
    The basic hard drive is a 1TB 5400rpm drive.  It will work fine with Adobe CS but you will probably want the added speed of the optional 1TB Fusion drive for better performance. Some people will recommend/argue for one of the optional SSD drives instead, but they are very expensive and still only come in relatively small capacities - I don't recommend the SSD drives.  Get the Fusion drive and spend any extra money on a good external hard drive for backup and/or extra storage instead of an SSD.
    Notes on purchasing a 27" iMac
    All 27" iMacs come with 8GB RAM and you can add more later, up to 32GB
    The basic hard drive is a 1TB 7200rpm drive - it will be fine with Adobe CS.  There are upgrade options to a 3TB 7200rpm drive or a 1TB or 3TB fusion drive - these will be fine also.  There are also SSD drive options, but I do not recommend them. (Same comments as above.)
    Notes on all the current iMacs
    iMacs no longer come with built-in CD/DVD drives.  If you need one, you will need to purchase the Apple Superdrive accessory drive ($79)
    All of the iMac graphic processors (GPU's) are compatible with Adobe CS 4, 5.5, 6
    It is very difficult to impossible to change or upgrade the hard drive later on, so don't buy low-end thinking you can add a better internal hard drive later.
    Be aware that Macs always come with the latest (most recent) version of OS X.  And OS X Mavericks (10.9) is due to be released soon (in the next month or two).  There is no guarantee that the older Adobe CS 4 or 5.5 versions will run on OS X Mavericks.  If you cannot upgrade to CS 6 in the near future, you may want to purchase now rather than after OS X Mavericks is released.
    For what it's worth, I'd recommend the 27" iMac if your budget can afford it.  You will appreciate the larger screen size and added capabilities over the years you will use the computer.

  • How do you guys reduce noise in Canon 5d mark II video?

    I am really interested to know if anybody could give me leads on how to reduce noise in 5d mark II videos. First off - Canon 5d mark II stock HD bitrate is not really nice. Even shooting in day time I have color noise and a lot of noise in shadow areas. Its only after I played with ML 2.3 and tried to shoot 1080p vid on CBR 1.4x mode (thats the maximum bitrate supported by my present CF card but planning to buy a new one).
    How do you guys deal with it?

    Tests have been done that show ISO settings in multiples of 160 produce the least amount of noise on video. Starting at 160 the 5Dmkii produces less noise than even at lower ISO settings of even 100 ISO.   160, 320, 480(500), 640 and so on. If you need ISO settings of a lot higher and the noise becomes obvious there is video noise reduction software that could help.

  • How do you guys work around this trivial situation?

    Hi,
    I'm using GlassFish v2 and JSF 1.2.
    Since JSP can be run using the direct url of the JSP page and the JSF pages require some prefix like "/faces/" how do you guys deal with situations
    when somebody accesses the direct link of the JSF (that means without typing "faces/") ? - I noticed that GlassFish throws an error in this case which must be addressed I think.
    Any hint or constructive comment would be highly appreciated. Or is this an open problem when using JSF?

    Well thank you a lot, I did more googling before finding your second reply and found some info about filters, I will check your links as well and
    see if I can polish my solution based on your links.
    For those who might look for solving the same issue:
    I added to web.xml this (my faces are prefixed with "/fx" rather than "/faces", a matter of taste):
    <filter>
              <filter-name>JsfFilter</filter-name>
              <filter-class>xlinuks.JsfFilter</filter-class>
              <init-param>
                   <param-name>search_token</param-name>
                   <param-value>.jsp</param-value>
              </init-param>
              <init-param>
                   <param-name>add_token</param-name>
                   <param-value>/fx</param-value>
              </init-param>
         </filter>
         <filter-mapping>
              <filter-name>JsfFilter</filter-name>
              <url-pattern>*.jsp</url-pattern>
         </filter-mapping>And the filter itself is this:
    package xlinuks;
    import java.io.IOException;
    import javax.servlet.*;
    import javax.servlet.http.*;
    public class JsfFilter implements Filter {
         private FilterConfig filterConfig;
         private String sSearchToken, sAddToken;
         public void doFilter( ServletRequest request, ServletResponse response, FilterChain chain ) throws ServletException, IOException {
              HttpServletRequest httpReq = (HttpServletRequest) request;
              String sUri = httpReq.getRequestURI();
              if( (sAddToken == null) || (sSearchToken == null) ) {
                   chain.doFilter( request, response );
                   return;
              int iIndex = sUri.indexOf( sSearchToken );
              if( (iIndex > -1) && (sUri.indexOf( sAddToken ) < 0) ) {
                   sUri = sAddToken + sUri.substring( sUri.lastIndexOf( "/" ) );
                   filterConfig.getServletContext().getRequestDispatcher(sUri).forward(request, response);
                   return;
              } else {
                   chain.doFilter(request, response);
         public void init(FilterConfig filterConfig) throws ServletException {
              this.filterConfig = filterConfig;
              sSearchToken = filterConfig.getInitParameter( "search_token" );
              sAddToken = filterConfig.getInitParameter( "add_token" );
         public void destroy() {
              filterConfig = null;
    }

    There are a lot of posts in the forums today with people having problems with iMessage.   There was also a published outage yesterday, so it's possible there are still some issues that may be impacting you both.
    I would just wait it out - I'm sure it will be sorted out soon.

  • Hi there how are you guys out there of this forum? I got a question for y'a

    Hi there how are you guys out there of this forum? I got a question for y’all
    I wanted to know how I could record different folders using iTunes
    Cause when recorded 2000 thongs on the DVD
    There were 2000 songs to go through
    So I really wanted to have had folders and then the music recorded inside them
    So I could get right to where I wanted real quickly
    Could anyone please teach me how to do that real quickly?
    Can we do it with iTunes?
    I know we can do it with Nero.

    1) Go to file, select new playlist. Creat the playlaist.
    2) Download your music into iTunes.
    NOTE: CHECK 'Recently Added' before you download your music.
    If the select boxes has a check in them, turn it off by
    holding down the 'ctrl' key and selecting one of the
    checked boxes. This shold turn off all the checks.
    It would be better to clear 'Resently Add' of all
    previous downloads, but I don't know how to do that
    yet.
    3) under 'PLAYLIST' on the right, select 'Recently Add'.
    all of your song should show there with a check in the selection
    box.
    4)Hold the shift key and select the frist (selete records name),
    then the last recorded tune. All of the recordings shouls light
    up blue.
    5) While holding the 'shift' key, drag one of the records to your new
    playlist. All of the blue highlighted song will transfer to the new
    playlist.

  • How are you guys powering your laptops in your cars ???

    Hi guys,
      Although I have been using computers since the first pc appeared, I only recently decided to get a laptop.  I got a Lenovo B560 and have been absolutely delighted with it.
     However, I am perplexed at the fact that there does not seem to be any easy options for using the laptop in the car on long trips etc ?  I do not see any type of 12 volt adapter listed in the accessories ??  A google search shows a few "generic" brand power converters but I have always been leary of using anything but oem type equipment.
     Anyway, how are you guys powering your machines while mobile ??
    Thanks,
    Bill

    Your tip size is 2.5mm x 5.5mm,  19volts, and your current adapter is 90watts, right?
    Your tip size is the same as what is in the y450, y460, y550p, y550, y560, and the y730.
    The y730 is listed under the adapter listed above as taking the 4R 4319 tip, which is the same size as yours.
    The tip, Pt. # 46 4319 is listed as an optional tip for the ultraslim adapter, Pt. #4IN8460, that tip has to be ordered separately from the adapter, it doesn't come with it.
    Scroll to the bottom of the link for the adapter and you'll see the listing for the 19 volt tip, pt. #4R 4319.
    All this is assuming that you have integrated graphics.

  • How do you guys do remote access?

    Hi All,
    I have a customer with a MAC at both office and home.  When she is a home she would like to remote into her work computer (okay'ed by her boss) to work on various things (she is a graphics artist).
    How do you guys do remote access?  Do you have anything like Linux's XRDP?
    What ports and what protocol (TCP, UDP) do you use?
    Many thanks,

    So  something like Goodreader or Dropbox would work...if the files are *.doc's you could use Quick Office Pro HD to edit  them. An iPad probably isn't the place to do complicated edits, however...either of these apps will allow a file local to the iOS device to be stored, then sent to another app such as Quick Office Pro HD...or you could also have the files stored in an email folder in say, Outlook, and then have that folder sync to the iOS device OTA with the iOS Exchange client...

  • HT4759 how do you update icloud with contacts transferred to Iphone by verizon

    How do you update icloud with contacts transferred to Iphone by Verizon?  The only contacts that show up in icloud are the ones I entered myself to the phone.

    You'll need to copy them to iCloud in order to see them on your PC.  To do this, do the following:
    Go to Settings>iCloud, turn Contacts to Off, choose Delete from My iPhone when prompted (they will still be in iCloud).
    Download the app My Contacts Backup.  Use this to backup the remaining contacts on your phone (from Verizon) as a vCard attachment to an email that you send to yourself.  Confirm that you have received the email.
    Go to Settings>iCloud and turn Contacts back to On.
    Open the My Contacts Backup email and tap the attachment to import the Verizon contacts back to your phone.  They should now be in iCloud, and appear on your PC.  You may see duplicate contacts on your phone because you are still viewing both the contacts from Verizon as well as the copies now in iCloud.
    Open Contacts on your phone and tap Groups, tap the Groups that were imported from Verizon so they are unchecked and tap Done.  This will hide them from view and illiminate the duplicates.

  • Noob question... How do you familiarize yourself with a library?

    I'm very new to Java and programming in general. but I am currently reading some beginner books for Java. From what I've read, libraries are nothing more than prewritten code which you can call to use in your programs. My question is how do you familiarize yourself with the libraries? With so many different libraries, how do you find out what they are capable of? Is is simply diving in it and analyzing the code? Can you create your own libraries? If so, what is the advantage of creating a library instead of baking the code right into the program? Why advantage do you have with referencing an outside file for code over having a self contained program?

    but I am currently reading some beginner books for Java. From what I've read, libraries are nothing more than prewritten code which you can call to use in your programs. Yes indeed. Why reinvent the wheel?
    My question is how do you familiarize yourself with the libraries? Gradually.
    With so many different libraries, how do you find out what they are capable of? The best way is by working through a good Java book.
    Is is simply diving in it and analyzing the code? You can do that, too.
    Can you create your own libraries?Yes.
    If so, what is the advantage of creating a library instead of baking the code right into the program? 1. You can analyze it and test it separately.
    2. You can reuse it separately.
    Why advantage do you have with referencing an outside file for code over having a self contained program?Are you asking the same question, just with different wording?
