How do you wait to load certain movie clips or frames?

I have seen flash sites that wait to load different parts of the flash file until you click on a link, thereby starting a loading graphic that then loads the content you're looking for. I can't find any information on how to do this, and I'm guessing I just can't find the right terminology.
Does anybody have the right verbiage for me or can anybody point me to a website that explains the process? Thanks, Dan

I got ya.  Thanks for your help.
Any idea what size they say is "too big" a file for a flash movie on a standard website nowadays? I'm looking at being around 1MB when all is said and done (assuming I use the loader to pull some of the bigger things from external files).
Thanks, Dan

    First create an iMovie project. Then drag the clips (or portions of clips) that you need into the project.
    When finished, use the SHARE menu to share the project.

  • How do I make all buttons on stage unclickable, while a certain movie clip is visible?

    Hi,
    I have a button on stage which opens a popup (movie clip is popup + several other buttons). The movie clip and the buttons on it take up most of the stage.
    The problem is that the buttons which are on the stage, and are behind the movie clip, remain clickable (you can click through the movie clip!). How may I disable this?
    Basically, I need to make it that you cannot click through the movie clip.
    Thanks in advance!
    PS I am using CS5 and AS2.

    One way would be to make the movieclip clickable.  That would make it block the other objects behind it...
         mc.onRelease = function(){ }
         mc.useHandCursor = false; // to hide the hand cursor
    Another way would be to disable the buttons while the movieclip is present...
         btn.enabled = false;
    Another way would be to build conditional code into the button clicking code to not work if the movieclip is visible.
         btn.onRelease = function(){
              if(!mc._visible){
                    // okay to do stuff

  • Loading external movies in specific frames

    Here's what I'd like to have my project do: By clicking on a
    button in frame 5 I'd like to load a movie into an empty movie clip
    in frame 20. I'v ewritten the script to create the empty movie clip
    and also load the movie, but the movie loads into all frames of my
    project. I'd ideally like to have the movie clip waiting for my
    only in frame 20. Anyone know how to make this happen?
    Thanks
    Eric

    you could not load it into an empty movie clip located on
    frame 20 from frame 5, flash wouldn't know where to load it since
    the movie clip hasn't shown up... you could load it in on frame 5
    and give the movie clip a _visible = false; or set it's _x and _y
    properties to be off the stage, then on frame 20 set it to _visible
    = true; or move its _x and _y properties to be on the
    stage..

    How do you turn off audio in a clip.  I am trying to eliminate wind noise.  I am using premier 12.

  • How do you connect parts of a split clip?

    How do you connect parts of a split clip?  I unlinked audio from video, split the ambient audio and removed some unwanted background noise.  I now need to connect the two parts of the audio and stretch to match the length of the video portion. I don’t want to stretch just one part of the audio; I need to stretch the entire audio clip so that it is uniform.  I am using APE12.

    Thanks for such a quick reply.  I was shooting footage for a soothing background: gently rolling waves washing on the shore, with the sound of the water.  In the middle of the clip, some voices were audible.  Everything was timed, so it wasn't practical to just cut out the middle of the video.  (In addition, this would leave a visual hiccup due to the motion of the sea.)
    So it seemed like the best and easiest thing was to cut out only the bad audio (only a few seconds) and then extend the duration of the remaining audio track to match that of the video track.  This was easy using Time Stretch, however this method only extended the portion of the audio track prior to the cut, leaving one portion at original speed and the other at 96%.  In other words, the audio track is the same length as the video track, but there are two slightly disparate parts to the audio track--one a bit slower than the other.
    Now in this particular case it's not terribly important, since the sound of waves is pretty amorphous, and a slight difference between the two parts (96% vs. 100% of original speed) is not going to be noticed.  But I would prefer to have a method that would work when such things do matter.
    What would be really nice would be the ability to
    1. Remove the corrupted audio
    2. Fuse/join/recombine the two audio portions
    3. Stretch the entire new audio track to match the length of the original video track.

    "Command-Shift-Drag" the Event clip containing the audio you wish to extract and "pin" it to the slideshow already in the Project window.

  • How do you make an iMovie HD movie full screen in Keynote presentation?

    Hey everybody, and Happy Holidays!
    I have a presentation tomorrow morning where I will be using a VGA connector to a video projector to present my Keynote presentation. I have tried just about every way I know how to make my imported iMovie HD film full screen during the Keynote presentation, but so far the best I can do is making the slides the 1024 size, which still leaves a black background above and below the movie when it is playing.
    Basically, what can I do to make my iMovie film full screen in Keynote?
    Thanks!
    -Randy

    First off, I'd be a bit worried if the movie wouldn't play in Quicktime Player -- that's pretty odd, since QT is essentially what Keynote is using for playback as well.
    If you have a new MacBook, then its display's "native" resolution is 1280 X 800, which is pretty much HD (which is 1280 X 720). By way of working through this, I'd first set your screen to 1280 X 800, and then set the slide size in Keynote to 1280 X 720 (which is one of the default sizes, precisely because it fits HD). If you do this, and if you set your movie as wide as it will go and centred, then it will leave 40 pixels at the top and bottom of the display when you play the presentation. There is no way around this, as it is simply the case that the height of the movie in pixels is less than the height of the screen. If you tried to fit the movie onto all of the screen, you'd either have to blow it up so that the top and bottom were at the screen edge, which would cut off the left and right parts of the movie (this is like what is done in "pan-and-scan" or "full-screen" DVDs of theatre films), or you'd have to "stretch" the movie vertically, which would distort it.
    Complicating all of this is your projector. Even if it is just mirroring your display, if it is a digital projector, it too has its own "native" resolution, and unlike your MacBook, it is very unlikely to be a 16:9 ratio, but rather a 4:3 ratio (800 X 600, or 1024 X 768). So even if you hook up your 1280 X 800 MacBook, the projector will still at best project a squarer image, which may show up as narrow bands of darkness above and below your "mirrored" display.
    In short form: there is no way to avoid the black bands -- they arise because the movie isn't as tall as the display, and there's no way around that.

  • How do you fit a 40 minute movie on a cd?

    question: i have a 40-minute movie (.mov) that i can fit on to a dvd, but the client wants it on a cd rom since a lot of the employees are unable to view dvds. how do you reduce the file so that the quality is still acceptable and is small enough to fit on a cd?
    any advice would be appreciated.
    merci

    We do this every week for our church, and the sermon is usually about 43 minutes long. Once exported, just burn it to a CD. Your users will need to have QuickTime to watch it.
    Here's what we do to export from FCE, and the resulting file is about 70 MB for 484 x 272. If you want a larger video, you can make it twice the size, and increase the data rate to 816 kbps.
    Export using QuickTime conversion:
    Video settings: H.264, 29.97 fps, Key Frames Automatic, Restrict to 204 kbps (for 484 x 272), optimized for download, Frame reordering checked, Encoding Best Quality, size 484 x 272.
    Sound settings: AAC, Mono (if stereo, double the data rate), 44.100 kHz, Render Quality Best, VBR Constrained, 48-54, kbps.
    That will get you started. Depending on what sort of material you have in the video, you may want to raise the data rate (a CD will hold 700 MB, so you have plenty of space to play with). Try a one minute clip first to see how it comes out before you export the whole thing.
    And yes, three hours (depending on your machine) may be what it takes. Our videos usually take less than two hours on a Core 2 Duo 2.33 GHz.
    Hope this is helpful.

  • How do you delete pre-loaded music on nokia 5300!

    reallyy annoying.
    iv tried everything 2 remove it & it just isnt working,
    is there any-one who knows how?!

    Took me ages to find this. The trick is to connect to your PC on "Data Storage Device Mode" - then you can see them and move or delete them. I found this on /discussions/board/message?board.id=phones&message.id=10066.
    The answer is the final reply from jerry_lewis. I could not get his first solution to work on my phone -- I must have a different software version -- but the second solution works!

    I am getting a message stating my iTouch cant play certain movies.  IE: Thor, Real Steel...why all of a sudden cant my iTouch play every movie I purchase off iTunes?

    It actually depends on the file format of your movies as well as each movies codecs. The best would be to use an app where you can use any file format or it will give you a list of the specific file format that will work.
