  • How does oracle accesses v$ tables or views in mount state

    Hi All,
I want to know how oracle accesses fixed tables/views while the database is in mount state.
    I did the following:
    1. Started the database in mount state.
    2. Query v$database ,v$datafile--Successful
    3. Queried dba_data_files.---ERROR
    SQL> select * from dba_data_files;
    select * from dba_data_files
    ERROR at line 1:
ORA-01219: database not open: queries allowed on fixed tables/views only
As per my understanding goes, all these tables are a part of Data Dictionary which is stored physically on system tablespace.
Now since the database is mounted ,it cannot access any part of system tablespace's data.Am I right??
So how does it queries v$ tables and other fixed database tables in mount state???
    Thanks in advance

the v$(dynamic) view comes from instance
the dba(static) views comes from dictionary
but there is only one view can be look while instance is in nomount mode
    and that is
    v$instance ,,,
BUT ONLY THING I DON KNOW IS WHY WE CAN STILL DESCRIBE THE V$ VIEWS WHILE INSTANCE IS IN NOMOUNT MODE,,,
    ORACLE instance shut down.
    SQL> startup nomount;
    ORACLE instance started.

  • How does one update Std Table EDIPHONE(there is no Table Maintainance)?

How does one update Std Table EDIPHONE(there is no Table Maintainance)?
    Regards,
    Shashank.

You should not update the standard database table directly.
through the partner profile tcode: WE20 you can update the table EDIPHONE.
u can choose required partner profile in the WE20, select the tab 'Telephony', and update the data, the table EDIPHONE will get updated.
if you want to maintain this edi phone data for a particular message type/s then select inbound/output parameters and double clikc on it, go to last tab in teh screen 'Telephony',  and updated the required data.

  • How does SAP populates COEP-GKONT field?

I dont know if this is the right firum/section that I entered, but I have a problem.
How does SAP populates the COEP-GKONT.
This is an offset account that (someone) SAP decides for a particular line item in a document, what the offset account is.
You can see the field using the KSB1 cost center line item report.  For example in SI4 you can pull CC C100388888, period 01 and year 2007 and just execute.
Then you can pull this field into the display layout.
If you double-click on the line you get taken to an FI document.
Somehow SAP decides what the offset account should be.  It looks like if the item you drilldown on is a debit, then SAP looks for a credit line item and populates the offset account value.
What I don’t understand is how SAP chooses this if there are multiple credits.  I don’t know if it just takes the first one or what.

  • How does data enter/leave the ni4351(pci) buffer?

I have recently begun using an ni4351(pci) for data acquisition. I'm using VC++ on a Win95 system. I've been digging through the documentation for the ni435x instrument driver, but I can't locate an anwer to the following question: How does the buffer for the analog input scans work?
It's stated in the instrument driver help that if the function to set the number of scans is not called, then acquisition will be continuous. My questions all revolve round the concept of continuous acquisition. I believe that I understand what's going on until i look at the fcns that read/check the acquisition.
What is the purpose of the timeout variable? I undertand its general purpose, but it seems (to me) that we must pass a ti
meout variable to functions that should never time out (e.g. check and read which only returns data that has already been collected).
How is data written into the buffer? is it sequentially added? (e.g. the first data point is buffer[0] and the last would be buffer[999] in a 1k element buffer?) or maybe the most recent acquisition is stored in buffer[0] and older data gets bumped back?
What happens to the data after a read (or check and read) has been performed? is the buffer cleared? does the data keep getting entered sequentially as if nothing has happened?
I apologize if this is in a document somewhere on your site. Thanks in advance for your help.

Data is written into the buffer sequentially. The buffer that the data is written to is a circular buffer. When the values are read into your program as an array, the first point that was acquired will be first in your array. The following tutorial explains what going on in hardware during a continuous acquisition:

I hope this answers your questions, feel free to post again if it doesnt.

  • How the data populated into tables like USR01,USR02 etc

    Hi,
I have one theoritical doubt. How the data is populated into tables like USR01, USR02 etc after creating the
user using SU01. Let me know the process behind it.
    Rgds,
    Chandra.

    Hi Chinna,
When you create users using SU01, SU10 transaction codes, it uses BAPI_USER_CREATE1 which will update the data in the respective tables.
Same way BAPI_USER_CHANGE is used when you modify any existing users.
    Hope this answers!!

  • How does Oracle determine a table as key-preserved or not?

I tried joining employees and departments in HR schema. Normally, departments is not key-preserved in the join operation. But I've arranged in the view so that each department has exactly one employee, so that dept_no may become the key for the join. But still, it said "cannot modify non key-preserved table". Any hints? does the joining type (left or right or inner or outer) affect the mechanism on how Oracle determine which are key-preserved and which are not? thanks.

  • How to create / populate new table in MaxDB?

    Dear All,
I'm a newbies in using MaxDB and still learning on it.
I've installed MaxDB Database Manager 7.6
I need help from all the experts here on the following "dumb" questions from me.
    1) I can't create, modify or delete any table / data with Database Manager, am I right?
    2) Should I start creating / populating tables with sqlcli or dbmcli? I was informed that I should use sqlcli instead or dbmcli.
    3) What is the syntax for me to create new table, as well as add, modify and delete data within it?
Please assist to provide some guidance or at least point me to the right direction interm of documentation available.
    THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!
    Much appreciated,

    > 1) I can't create, modify or delete any table / data with Database Manager, am I right?
Nope - the Database Manager is not able to to "sql-stuff".
You would want to use the Database Studio or the SQL Studio for that.
But as you're starting to learn anyhow, just go for the more modern Database Studio.
It combines the features of Database Manager and SQL Studio into one tool.
    > 2) Should I start creating / populating tables with sqlcli or dbmcli? I was informed that I should use sqlcli instead or dbmcli.
Why would you want to learn SQL by working with command line tools?
Really, go for the Database Studio instead.
For simple SQL stuff via command line you may use sqlcli.
    > 3) What is the syntax for me to create new table, as well as add, modify and delete data within it?
    > Please assist to provide some guidance or at least point me to the right direction interm of documentation available.
    You definitively need
    a) read the tutorial in the [documentation|http://maxdb.sap.com/doc/7_7/d0/3e345709c044d4a954e3a8d0be0867/content.htm]
    and
    b) get a SQL learning book to really understand the concepts behind relational databases and the query language.
Learning SQL is not about knowing how to type the commands.
Most users learn the commands rather quickly.
But fully understanding the set-approach of relational databases and how to create and use those databases correctly is often not learned.
So make sure not to fall into this trap!
    regards,
    Lars

  • How much data can internal tables store?

    ABAPers,
The function module that I am writing gets used by many of our customers. This module needs to store data temporily for further processing. Depending on individual customer's needs, the storage could be as little as 10000 records or it could run into millions of records.
While doing my research, I cam across this quote:
If you expect the size of your list to be greater than
the amount of memory you want your program to use, then
use field-groups (actually, if you use internal tables,
and the number of records exceeds the number of records
in your OCCURS statement, the system just writes those
extra records to the paging space. So is there really any
difference between just using an internal table with an
OCCURS 0 statement-- which would write the entire table
to paging space-- and using field-groups? According to
Gareth M. de Bruyn and Robert Lyfareff in Introduction to
ABAP/4 Programming for SAP, field-groups are stored more
efficiently, and have better performance. They recommend
field-groups for lists of 100,000 or more records).
    Questions:
    1. Is it true that internal tables can store any amount of records, irrespective of the amount of physical memory?
    2. For "OCCURS 0", are all the records ALWAYS stored in the paging space? Or, does the ABAP engine does virtual paging much like an operating system?
Thank you in advance for your help.
    Pradeep

Two good questions.......  here are two NOT so good answers.
    1)  The number of records that you are allow in your internal table(s) is limited to a cap for your session.  This is is a system setting.  When you reach the cap, program will end.
    2) You should not be using OCCURS extension anyway, always use TYPE TABLE OF.

  • How can I populate a table based block without it being the current block

    Any ideas??

Ok, here are the key components:
    •     Tab Form
    •     ActiveX Control
    •     VSFlexGrid
    •     Additional Window / Canvas With Mirrored items
The problem Is not that I can’t navigate to the block then execute a query, rather it is what takes place when it’s done that way.
When I attempt to do it the conventional way what takes place is visually un-appealing to the user. What triggers the need to populate the block in question is when the user selects a value in the VSFlexGrid. When done the conventional way what takes place when the value is selected is... we do a go_block, since the block is on a different tab the form then brings up that tab, and then execute_query populates the block, then go_block to return to the block/tab containing the VSFlexGrid. Then I would have to come up with a way to interface with the VSFlexGrid and return the cursor focus to the previously selected item in the VSFlexGrid. What needs to happen is when the user selects a value in the VSFlexGrid, behind the scenes the block gets populated then when the user navigate to the block/tab in question the data is already there. To further complicate matters this data comes from two different tables and the data from the parent can only be updated where the data from the child can be inserted or updated. Now if the user wants to bring up the additional sub-window the tab which has the mirrored items is removed. While this window is open the user then returns to the VSFlexGrid navigates through the grid and depending on the item selected the values in the sub-window need to be repopulated.
I guess if the block in question was on the same canvas / tab the conventional methods would be acceptable.
Now that I have painted the picture if you have any ideas my ears are open.
BTW… It looks like I have that last 10%. I am testing now and so far things are working as desired. When testing is SAT I will post the solution I have developed, maybe this will help Tony G. come up with a solution for his situation.

  • How does one populate a variable longer than 255 characters?

I have an itab with one field, tdline(132) which is like tline-tdline. The itab contains 10 -25 rows. Each row is really a max of  72 characters of text. I have a vairable V(2000) which is character of size 2000. I want to concatenate all of itab rows into V.
concatenate table itab into variable V separated by space
or similar does not work for me, because, it is putting only the first 255 characters. All characters thereafter are ignored.
The reason I need V(2000) is because I would download it as one of many columns related to a task. Each row of that extract is a set of columns plus this last column which is really an itab of texts.

    Hi
U can not display more then 255 char in one cell
u should use condence to remove extra spaces comming in your string and then it'll become of less lenght then u can show it by splitiing it in multiple columns using offset.
Hope it will solve your problem..
    Thanks & Regards
