How does Flash use the microphone?

I'm a long-time Windows driver developer. I'm trying to get Flash to use my virtual webcam/microphone as the current webcam on Windows XP or Windows 7 (identical results). I started out with a DirectShow source filter with two pins (video and audio), but Flash did not see an audio source at all, even though Amcap worked just fine. I then tried making two separate source filters (one with an audio pin, one with a video pin). Again, Amcap is happy but Flash does not see an audio source.
After some debugging, I noticed that it was enumerating the waveIn devices. So, I wrote an old-style waveIn driver for the audio. Flash now negotiates an audio format, but it never initiates streaming. If I bring up the "Options" dialog and go to the microphone tab, then Flash DOES start streaming, presuambly to get information for the VU meter, but as soon as I dismiss the dialog, the streaming stops.
How can I find out what exactly Flash wants? The whole process is frustratingly opaque.

I doubt that the Apple headset is compatible with your laptop. Apple devices have an extra "ring" in the plug and jack for connecting the control buttons. Your laptop does not recognize the extra contact.

How does one use the middle and right buttons in AIR without the cursor showing?

All I want to do is use all three botton clicks without the cursor showing (assistive technology situation). So I use Mouse.hide(). All works fine with the Left mouse button. With the middle and right buttons the cursor reappears as soon as the middle and right mouse is in the DOWN state (and stays visible until rehidden--see code). Are there Mouse parameters that could be added? (I can't find any such references.) Do I need to create a custom cursor Class that makes the cursor invisible at all times? Here is my simple AS 3 test code.

Incidentally, I then downloaded the upgrade offered at the top of that page (from v3.2 to v3.2.4) but after ±90% of the necessary time needed, it shut down with a "Failed to Mount" message (whatever that might mean). It took more than 28 minutes to download that much even though I'm using DSL! Have either of you upgraded to v3.2.4 with or without difficulty?

How does one use the free version of OmniGraffle without instructions?

I found OmniGraffle loaded onto my new PBk G4 (apparently for free) and, after trying to use it, have a few questions.
1. Is there an instruction booklet/program for the supplied version besides what little is included in its Help menu?
2. It came as v3.2. When I checked on the Web site for instructions on using it, it refered to v4 only, which appears to require a purchase.
I'm uncomfortable being in this Catch-22 situation. If there's a charge for a beginner to use v4, how can an Apple purchaser with v3.2 find a step-by-step user manual for the free version of OmniGraffle supplied on my computer?

How does one use the Japanese fonts in Font Book in a Pages document. Pages has its own fonts but I cannot get the Japanese fonts into it.

To type japanese on a computer you change the keyboard, not the font. Go to system prefs/keyboard/input sources and add Japanese/Kotoeri to the list, then select Hiragana in the "flag" menu at the top right of the screen, then type. The font will take care of itself.

the metadata transfers ok, it is the description of that photo that does not transfer.

Use the File -> Export command and note the settings to write the metadata to the file on export.

All versions of Photoshop get their fonts from your OS. Just install any missing font wherever Windows keeps fonts.

This isn't a precise answer but a possible workable solution. SoundSource puts a menu extra which allows you to switch input/output and has an option for Auto-Switch to Headphones. The auto-switch feature doesn't work with USB headphones but I believe it will with 'regular' headphone plugs such as you use.

Johnnyontherocks it is likely you installed an updated version of the Adobe Application Manager. Remove all copies of Adobe Creative software from the computer and reinstall to downgrade the installation.
