How does iMovie store the original video?

I have some video files on an external HD from my old computer with iMovie 08. On my new iMac with iMovie 09, I have opened up one of those video files, or imported it. My question is this: Is there any need to keep the original file from my old computer, or has it now been stored on my new one with iMove 09? I'm thinking if I keep the old one, I am storing it twice. I am backing up my iMac, so that's not an issue. I'm just trying to figure out if I am keeping a "third" copy when it's not really needed.

From the PixelGrabber docs:
  int alpha = (pixel >> 24) & 0xff;
  int red   = (pixel >> 16) & 0xff;
  int green = (pixel >>  8) & 0xff;
int blue  = (pixel      ) & 0xff;I've used this in code that slices an image into a 10x10 grid and
figures out the "main color" in each cell. Do it twice, compare
the result and you can tell if Image A is a scaled version of Image B.
Given that my code works, I'd have to say that the storage described
here is accurate !
Hope this helps !

  • HT3842 Does iTunes store the original music file and copy it into a separate folder? If i delete the original file from finder will it remove it from my iTunes library?

Hi, on my last PC when transferring music to my new MacBook Pro i noticed i had about 6 duplicated of each song in every album i took hours in removing them.
I Just wondered Does iTunes store the original music file and then copy it into a separate folder?
If i delete the original file from finder will it remove it from my iTunes library or vice versa. I didnt want to lose any music like i have some how managed to on my old computer.
Or should i keep both files of it in the Music folder and also iTunes library folder?
    Which is best ?

It does both at the same time.
When you add files to iTunes, it copies them into /Music/iTunes/iTunes media/ folder. The original file remains where it was.
You can drag a file to /Music/iTunes/iTunes media/Automatically add to iTunes/ folder.
This will add to iTunes and move it to /Music/iTunes/iTunes media/.
I keep a shortcut of this folder on my desktop then simply drag files to the shortcut to add to iTunes.
Then there are no "extra" files around.

  • I unintentionally deleted the first segment of some video.  I was able to get it out of the Trash and into "Finder", but I cannot restore it to iMovie and the original video.  Help!  How do I move the video (now in Finder) back to iMovie?

I deleted (to Trash) a segment of "raw footage" from an iMovie project that I did not want to delete.
I was able to retreive it from the Trash and move it to Finder, but I cannot figure out how to move it back to iMovie.
How do I do this (restore the video segment to the start of the project)?
Or, do I have to load the original video again from the camera?

    @ "Afterimages":
Well, yes, I suppose I could re-import the video.  (LIkely ALL of it, dammit!)
So, unless I'm mistaken that would be the "long way" to resolving this issue.
I was able the take the deleted video out of the Trash and now it's in Finder.  Why can't I simply re-insert it into iMovie where it orginally was?  That would be the simple solution, just "click and drag", or something like that, correct?  Maybe that's impossible?  (In which case, I must ask, "Wouldn't the creators of iMovie have considered this "boo-boo" and done something to remedy it easily?"  I doubt I'm the first vidiot to do this...

  • Where does iMovie store the individual clips?

I know where iMovie stores the project file (which has all the clips inside it), but where does it put each individual clip itself? I want to edit them using another program, but the only way I can do it for now is by opening the project file and exporting each individual clip.

    Hi Steve
My bet is that it will crach Your project.
I would if satisfied with my editing. Copy back to Camera to TWO new miniDV
tapes. Carefully secure that there is a great overlap - say several minutes.
(Why - errors on miniDV tapes are more common in beginning and end of tape)
Then when ready - delet the movie project and - re-import tapes into a
    new project.
ALL editings will be un-undo-able. So this is a nerve shattering experience.
Alt. Get a big external hard disk !!! Mac Extended - formatted !!!
Mac Exchange / DOS / UNIX formatted WILL NOT do.
And copy the movie project to this for further editings or just to store it.
(I don't use "Empty - trash" in iMovie even if several in this forum says that's
not so destructive as in previous versions of iMovie)

  • Cannot export a video from imovie because the original videos are deleted from the album

    Hi,
I made a mistake. I have an iMovie project but I cannot anymore export the project, because I have deleted the original files.
However, I am able to play the video within iMovie by only playing it as "play full screen". If I try to play a video in the list of first page starting the imovie it would not play. A notification pops up saying "none of the missing videos were found. If the missing videos are on you computer, sync the videos to your device and relaunch iMovie." Although I already deleted my original videos..
So the movie seems to be somehow there.
Also before when I deleted my videos in album, I finished a step of uploading on youtube. But when I checked my youtube video menager, the video shows as it failed and unable to to convert video file.
Do you know a way of how I can export the movie again?
    Thank you and best regards,
    Kevin

    Any luck?

  • How does Labview stores the binary data - The header, where the actual data starts etc.

I have problem in reading the binary file which is written by labview. I wish to access the data (which is stored in binary format) in Matlab. I am not able to understand - how the data will be streamed in to binary file (the binary file format) when we save the data in to a binary format through Labview program. I am saving my data in binary format and I was not able to access the same data in Matlab.
I found a couple of articles which discusses about converting Labview to Matlab but What I really wanna know is - How can I access the binary file in Matlab which is actually written in Labview?
Once I know the format Labview uses to store its binary files, It may be easy for me to read the file in Matlab. I know that Labview stores the binary files in Big Endian format which is
    Base Address+0 Byte3
    Base Address+1 Byte2
    Base Address+2 Byte1
    Base Address+3 Byte0
But I am really confused about the headers, where the actual data start. Hence I request someone to provide me data about - How Labview stores the Binary Data. Where does the original data start. Below attached is the VI that I am using for writing in to a binary file.

    Hi Everybody!
I have attached a VI (Write MAT file.vi - written in LabVIEW 7.1) that takes a waveform and directly converts it to a 2D array where the first column is the timestamps and the second column is the data points. You can then pass this 2D array of scalars directly to the Save Mat.vi. You can then read the .MAT file that is created directly from Matlab.
For more information on this, you can reference the following document:
Can I Import Data from MATLAB to LabVIEW or Vice Versa?
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/websearch/2F8ED0F588E06BE1862565A90066E9BA?OpenDocument
However, I would definitely recommend using the Matlab Script node (All Functions->Analyze->Mathematics->Formula->Matlab Script). In order to use the Matlab Script node, you must have Matlab installed on the same computer. Using the MatlabScript node, you can take data generated or acquired in LabVIEW and save it directly to a .mat (Matlab binary) file using the 'save' command (just like in Matlab). You can see this in example VI entitled MathScriptNode.vi - written in LabVIEW 7.1.
    I hope this helps!

  • Edited or ranked photos - how does LR3 store the files?

Hello - I am using iPhoto as my photo presentation repository. Once I edit photos in Lr3, I want to be able to simply drag them or import them into a new even in iPhoto. How do I do this? I am not sure that LR3 categorizes the edited photos (or higher ranked) in any different way. Thats why if I could simply drag and drop from the LR interface into the iPhoto new event, I'd be in better shape. But, that doesnt work. Any suggestions?
    Thanks

I think in Lightroom you need to do a File->Export and then place the exported file into your iPhoto repository.
I think in the long run, you would be better off using Lightroom to manage and edit your files and create slideshows, as this is how it was designed to be used, as this is the most efficient way to use Lightroom; instead of Lightroom as an editor and iPhoto for photo management or slideshows.

  • How can I add photos to a video without interrupting the sound of the original video?

In PE11, How can I add photos to a video without interrupting the sound of the original video?

    RLHeflin
Thanks for getting your details posted. Good job.
    You further explained
I am simply wanting to “overlay” a new visual element without disturbing the underlying audio.
A classical way to do a Premiere Elements Overlay is to hold down the Ctrl key of the computer main keyboard and drag the new clip over the area of the one you want to replace on the Timeline. That should not do anything but replace one portion of the video on the Timeline. No change in duration video or audio track if you are dealing with video linked to audio.
If you hold down the Alt key of the computer main keyboard, I am envising a scenario where you want to add to (not replace) some Timeline content.
A just in case note, if you have video on Video 1 and 2 and the video in 2 does not have transparent areas in it, then all you will see is the Video 2 content. I believe that Hunt eluded to that concept as a possible technique for what you might be doing.
Another just in case, if you have not seen the following Adobe documentation on arranging clips, you might be interested in the following link

If she simply updated the AppleID (not created a new one with a new email address), log out then log back into iTunes store.

If you have either iMovie 09 or iMovie 11 you can do this easily using the Cutaway feature.
Go to iMovie/Preferences and make sure that the Advanced Tools are enabled.
Now you jut drag and drop the 2nd clip onto hte first clip at the frame where you want the Cutaway to start. A popup menu will appear. Choose Cutaway.
    Here is a good Tutorial.
If you have iMovie 08, let me know. There is a way to do it, but it is more complex.

  • Selected file cannot be linked because its type (video) does not match the original file's type

I've been using Premiere Elements 9 for a couple of years now, and a few months ago I began having problems importing AVI files created from a BlackMagic Intensity Pro capture card.  (These issues were not previously occurring, and since they surfaced, I have exhausted the various settings for the BlackMagic card, used various software such as BlackMagic's own Media Express as well as the freeware VirtualDub, and still have the following problems.)
In addition, these AVI files play just fine, in their entirety, using Windows Media Player and in Quicktime.
The problem (or possibly two, but I suspect they could be related) is that most of the AVI files I attempt to import will either (1) import all video and NO audio, or (2) import ONLY a short segment of audio and video, and the length that Elements imports varies.  Usually only in the range of a minute or two.  The rest of the file is not imported at all.
After much digging in forums, and testing various settings in trying to figure out the issue, I decided to back up all of my files and completely wipe all hard drives and start over with a fresh installation of Windows and Premiere Elements 9.  I haven't installed much else yet, as I wanted to first find out if the reinstallation improved things with Elements.
For the first project I created in Elements after the reinstallation, Elements successfully imported an entire AVI that was nearly 2 hours long, audio and video.  This was a file that previously would not import properly into Elements.  This suggested that my earlier installation of Elements must have been corrupted somehow.  At this point I was very hopeful that all was well.
I proceeded to edit the video as I had wanted, saved the project, and exported it to an MPEG format file.  I had originally wanted to export it as an MOV, but I hadn't yet installed Quicktime, so Elements couldn't do that just yet.  The MPEG export was successful and plays fine.
However, I then installed Quicktime, and once it was finished, I restarted the PC and reloaded the same project.  This time, Elements claimed the media was offline.  I double-clicked on a segment of the video, and directed Elements to the raw file, but then an error message popped up:  "The selected file cannot be linked because its type (video) does not match the original file's type (audio and video)."  This was the same file I had JUST edited and of which I created an MPEG.
I tried creating a new project and the "Get Media" function to import the AVI again, but this time only the video imported with NO audio.  (This would explain why the error message said what it did, but not why the audio wasn't imported.)
What in the world is going on with Elements???  I am baffled since the ONLY task I have done on this machine after a complete reinstallation of both Windows and Elements is edit one AVI.  I find it very hard to believe that just installing Quicktime caused this.
    Some info on my system:
    System:  Asus P6T w/ Intel i7 920 and 12 GB memory
    OS: Windows 7 Ultimate
    Video Software:  Premiere Elements 9
Capture Card:  BlackMagic Intensity Pro (PCI-e)
Capture Software:  AVIs recorded with either BlackMagic Media Express or VirtualDub (only prior to the reinstallation, as neither of these programs are currently installed)
I'm getting to the point with Elements that I might need to just abandon it and find something else that is more reliable.  Anybody have suggestions to help with this, so I won't have to migrate?

    mtnsports
We think that we need to start off with definiting the properties of these .avi files that you are importing into Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 (assumed that you are working for the required 9.0.1 Update).
You say that the "avi" was created from a "BlackMagic Intensity Pro capture card". What are the properties of this .avi that you imported into Premiere Elements? Not all .avi are created equal. What is the video and audio compression, frame size, frame rate, interlaced or progressive, pixel aspect ratio, typical duration?
Based on the properties of the video what have you been setting as the project preset?
    Let us start here.
