How does Oracle client communicate with a database server

Looking to idenify how Oracle Database Client for OpenVMS communicates with database server and whether the protocol used is secure. Realize that it is using whatever the configured network protocol is (ie. tcpip) but is languauge it uses ( ie. SQL, etc..) secured/encrypted and if not what steps can be taken to encypt

How does Oracle failsafe work with dataguard

Question: Till now we used two nodes with failsafe and a database server.
We need a solution for the following:
* location 1: the same as above.
* location 2: database server(standby) and maybe another instance(node).
Scenario: The production database at location 1 fails and needs to failover(dataguard?) to the standby db at location 2. The failsafe instances at location 1 still point to the production database(which is down).
Does dataguard point the failsafe instances to location 2. Is there maybe a better solution stategy(keep in mind the costs)?
Or do we need RAC configured with dataguard?

I was able to run a simple query with ora_* functions using 10g on Windows.
The Oracle OCI calls used by PHP's ora extension still exist in the Oracle 10g libraries
But I cannot recommend this obsolete extension.

WCS communicates with the controller mainly through SNMP and HTTPS. You will find a list of protocols used on CCO

If it's the former option, this might explain why people have problems sometimes configuring distant AirPort base stations in WDS setups. If it's the latter option, problems with configuring a distant AirPort might be caused by improper configuration of the AirPort providing the strongest signal (presumably, the nearest).
2. Ethernet case: When one attempts to configure an AirPort via Ethernet, does it matter whether the AirPort is configured to connect to the internet via Ethernet (vs. wirelessly)?

How does the iPad communicate with a pc? I am trying to listen to mp3's that are currently on my pc. I can't get to the pc directly and I realize that's a distinct limitation of the iPad, but since it's also limited in it's ability to read sd or USB stik

MySQL is one of the primary databases that TopLink supports.
TopLink supports any SQL database with a valid JDBC driver, and has built-in extensions for many databases.

One thing to point out : The OLAP option is a costed database option, so while this is automatically installed and part of your database you do have to purchase additional licenses to use this feature. You will need to check with your Oracle account manager to see if you are actually licensed to use this feature.
If you have existing 9i OLAP cubes these can be quickly and easily migrated to 10g OLAP and the documentation explains how to do this. However, there are many new features that are part of 10g OLAP that will improve the performance of your data model that will not be enabled as part of a migration process. Based on my experiences it would be quicker and easier (depending on the size of your existing 9i OLAP cubes) to consider rebuilding your data model using these new 10g features. You should be able to export all the dimensions to XML templates from 9i OLAP and import the templates into the 10g schema and reload your dimensions.
For the cubes you will probably want to consider using partitioning, composites and compression to provide maximum flexibility and performance for your new data model. There is more information on these features within the OLAP documentation and in the many whitepapers and presentations on the OLAP home page on OTN.
For moving data from SQL Server to 10g OLAP much depends on the nature of the data transfer. If it is a one-off bulk data load then you could consider using the normal MS command line tools to dump the data out and transfer it to Oracle. Alternatively, you could consider using Oracle Data Integrator to manage the extraction of the SQL Server data and the data load process into Oracle 10g relational tables. If you decide to use Data Integrator this will require additional licenses.
If you can extract the data from SQL Server to flat files you can use Oracle Warehouse Builder (basic ETL is free as part of the 10g database license) to load that flat file data via external tables. Warehouse Builder can also be used to define your OLAP data model (think of Warehouse Builder as a more powerful version of Analytic Workspace Manager) and provides tools to load the data directly into your OLAP dimensions and cubes. You can get more information on managing OLAP data models with Warehouse Builder the Warehouse Builder home page on OTN.
There are no facilities to modify Discoverer Viewer to add customisations. You can add company logos, modify certain colors and/or hide certain features but it is not possible to add additional features. You may want to consider using BI Beans to provide this type of environment. BI Beans is the development framework used to create Discoverer Viewer. You can create customised JSP pages that look identical to Discoverer Viewer pages with the added benefit of providing your own specific features. Which oracle client works with both Oracle 11.2.0.2 and BizTalk 2006 R2

My Oracle11.2.0.2 is installed on linux server. My Biztalk2006R2 is installed on Windows Server 2003 R2 x64. I have already installed BizTalk Adapter for Oracle on the Biztalk server and now require to install Oracle Client to make Biztalk able to retrieve data from Oracle11.2.0.2 using the oracle client.

I came to know that the only oracle clients compatible with Biztalk adapter for oracle are as below:
1) Oracle client 8i
2) oracle client 9i
3) oracle client 10i

Question1: which of the above clients should i install on biztalk server that is compatible with both Oracle11.2.0.2 as well as Biztalk server 2006 R2?
Question2: How to install and configure this client to make it work correctly?

The Biztalk Adapter interface with Oracle software has information, requirements per referenced document that does not make sense.
E.g. "10i" does not exist and the requirement "Oracle ODBC driver 9.2.0.5.4" means that only 9.2 Client can be used. (Mixing parts from one Database Client product version with another version is not allowed/supported/certified.)
Btw, does that machine happen to have Itanium hardware? (probably no, since you stated x64)
For Oracle's OS requirements, 2003 was certified with/from 9.2.0.3 (and likely also terminal patch set version 9.2.0.8). Not sure about Server 2003 R2, 32 or 64-bit. I'm pretty sure 10.2 was certified on 2003 R2, but the note likely refers to 10.1 versions (before it was known it would be labeled 10g, g for grid replacing the i ).

For Oracle client - server interoperability and certification, there's a support matrix on MOS. See doc id 207303.1.
It seems 9.2 is supported on the wire to operate with 11.2 server, but Client with at least patch set 9.2.0.4 is required.
So, I guess best bet is to find updated requirements.
If you manage to get hold of 9.2.0.5, after verifying that 2003 R2 is ok, then it looks like the puzzle could be put together for a complete picture.
For ease of install, take a look at the Instant Client. (However, there's no 9.2 IC, that type of client install came later)

For User managed hot database refreshes.
We create a new controlfile and do cancel based recovery.
How does oracle suggest the next archive to apply when we do "recover database using backup controlfile until cancel;"
I mean we created a new control file ..rt.
where is the information about the archivelogs stored.

In the controlfile.
The "using backup controlfile" means using a backed up controlfile, and you want to fool Oracle into thinking a point in time recovery will happen so don't use what would be the controlfiles current scn time to automatically say the recovery is complete. If you have created a new controlfile, all it can know about is where the logs should be and compare to what log sequences the datafile headers have. How does oracle know the databse is inconsistent and needs recovery?

Hello,
How does Oracle know that the datafiles are inconsistent and db needs recovery when rebuilding the db off of the online/hot backups? Whereas, it doesn’t ask for recovery when rebuilding the database from cold backup (I understand that, for cold backup, database is shutdown immediate and hence the db is consistent). In both scenarios, a new control file is created (that means it won’t have SCN) and only datafile header will have the SCN. What’s that piece of info that oracle check to know if the database is consistent or inconsistent during the backup restore and recovery and where that info resides?

Oracle uses the datafiles to identify if they are consistent. If the datafiles backup was taken when the database was OPEN, they are marked as "fuzzy" in the header. Also, likely, the Checkpoint SCNs may be different if tablespace checkpoints (e.g. by ALTER TABLESPACE BEGIN BACKUP) are at different points in time.
If the backup was a cold backup with the database shutdown normal/immediate, the headers are marked appropriately.
When you run CREATE CONTROLFILE, it has to read the datafiles because the controlfile, itself, has no SCN and LogSequenceNumbers information.

When we use ABAP client proxy to send a message in XI-SOAP format to the integration engine, how does the client proxy determine what is the sender business system, i.e. how does it know what value it should insert in the sender service field in the SOAP envelop.
For example, at first, the business system X8A_105 corresponds to the technical system X8A_105, so when the client proxy sends out a message, the sender service is X8A_105. Then I delete the business system X8A_105 in the SLD, and create a new business system that is associated with the technical system X8A_105.when the client proxy sends out a message, the sender_service is still X8A_105, why?

Execute the following function module in your business system and see what name it returns..
LCR_GET_OWN_BUSINESS_SYSTEM.
You can always debug the code inside the above FM to find out how it gets the business system name...
I think the issue should be related to cache. I would also suggest you to logoff from your business system and then login again.
