How does the JRE determine java.home?

I recently upgraded from jre 1.4.1 to 1.4.2.
I'm having problems with applets, and I've traced the problem to the fact that java.home still points to the old JRE directory. Here is a line from the system properties dump in the java console:
java.home = C:\PROGRA~1\Java\J2RE14~1.2_0
That directory doesn't exist anymore. The directory that contains the jre is now c:\program files\Java\j2re1.4.2_01.
I properly uninstalled 1.4.1, and I've tried uninstalling everything java related, manually deleting everything I can find (files, folders, registry settings) related to java or sun, and reinstalling, and this problem is still there.
I've also tried setting the property in the JAVA_HOME environment variable as well as setting it as a runtime option in the java control panel ( -Djava.home=. . .). No dice.
How does the JRE determine java.home? Is there a way to manually set the path?

Check regedit with the oldvalueThanks -- I tried that. The old value is not in the registry, and all of the registry settings for java.home point to the correct directory. The java.home value that ends up inside the plugin must be determined some other way (at least in 1.4.2).
If anyone out there knows where it comes from, please let me know!
Thanks.

  • How does the OS determine $TMPDIR ?

Can anyone tell me how and where the OS determines where $TMPDIR is to be placed, i.e /var/folders/j1/1439ppj08xj8h6006s6drbq00000gs/T/ in my case?
This doesn't seem to vary from reboot to reboot, and if true that suggests this is not simply a random path name.
My goal is to put $TMPDIR on a case-sensitive partition, while keeping the boot partition case-insensitive (which used to be more or less required to avoid issues with badly written applications). If the TMPDIR is fixed, I could hopefully replace it with a symlink to an appropriate location on my case-sensitive partition.

I believe it is set by a startup script - I don't know which one. The kind of change to a "default" you want to do is normally done by editing the .profile file (hidden file in your username -home- directory). Read up on .profile, .bashrc and /etc/profile configurations.

  • OSA - How does the system determine a part appraiser

I have copied a standard SAP template to create a performance feedback template. I have one employee in an org structure that is the chief of an org unit. I then have a subordinate org unit that reports to the higher org unit. I have an employee in this org unit. I have created two user ids and assigned each employee to one of the user ids. When I create the appraisal using phap_create_pa, I can create the objectives for the form with the chief. When I start the appraisal process, it kicks me out. When I go back in with phap_change_pa and am logged on as the employee (part appraiser), I cannot do anything since every column is greyed out, even though the status of the appraisal doc is in "in process, part appraisal". What am I missing? I guess I don't know why this part apparaiser is not working. Any help will be appreciated

Here are a few things I can think of:
    1. In the template under the status flow tab ensure that 'person authorised' has the entry part appraiser
    2. Check if the workflow event entered for the previous step is not a display event, but an approval event.
    Hope it helps.
Also, can you please tell me which r/3 version you are using.

  • How does the Java card simulator work? and other misc questions

First, I have a class inherited from Applet. Okay, I did that.
How do I convert this class to a CAP file? I mean I have a class file which is compiled by javac, do I use this file to convert into a CAP file? What is an AID? Do I make up this AID?
In this .scr file (APDU Script), I understand the first 4 bytes, it means to create an Applet, but what about the rest? I know there are some intermixes of lengths and AIDs, I just can't decipher this.

And here comes the main question?
How does the simulator work? How do I generate the data that mimics what the card reader reads?

  • How does the Reader or Acrobat determine which plug-ins should be loaded

    Hi,
I have a custom plug-in for Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat.
The custom plug-in api file will be available in the plugins folder for all users.
But I want the plug-in to load for few users only.
Is there any registry key or any other property available to achieve this?
How does the Reader or Acrobat determine which plug-ins should be loaded?
    Thanks,
    Vatsapal

Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat looks for files with extension .api in the plugins folder.

  • How does the boot-process assemble the raid?

    Hi everyone,
I just switched from Debian and CentOS to archlinux on all my machines and I really love it so far!
Now I feel that I can really customize my OS the way I want.
But I was thinking about one thing that I don't really understand yet, and of what I have
read on this forum I'm certain that someone knows the answer.
On my primary machine I have an mdadm-raid.
And the partitions looks like this:
    /dev/sda                          /dev/sdb
    Disk1                              Disk2
    /dev/sda1                        /dev/sdb1
100mb ext2 (boot)            100mb empty (I did empty partition so that the disks looks the same.)
    /dev/sda2  <- RAID0 ->   /dev/sdb2            /dev/md0
    2500MB ext3 (root)          2500MB ext3
    /dev/sda3  <- RAID0 ->   /dev/sdb3            /dev/md1
    2250MB (swap)                2250MB swap
    /dev/sda4  <- RAID0 ->   /dev/sdb4            /dev/md2
    245150MB ext3 (home)    245150MB ext3
So there was a little tricky to get it installed and assemble the raid at boot, but now it's working like a dream again.
And what I did what except loading mdadm-hook of course I used the kernel parameter: ro root=/dev/md0 md=0,/dev/sda2,/dev/sdb2 a.s.o. to
tell the initrd how to assemble the raid at boot.
But before archlinux i've done this setup in the installer, and after I've installed for example Debian, the system boots correctly and
assemble the raid at boot, but without the kernel-parameters, how does the system know how the raid should be assembled?
I've tried to include the mdadm.conf but with no success, does the initrd contain the raid information is some way?

    To obtain that file, run:
    abs
This will provide the abs tree of core, extra, and community in /var/abs.
Then you can get the file:
    # vim: set ft=sh:
    run_hook ()
        input="$(cat /proc/cmdline)"
        mdconfig="/etc/mdadm.conf"
        # for partitionable raid, we need to load md_mod first!
        modprobe md_mod 2>/dev/null
        # if no config file is present create one from command line parameters
        if ! [ -e $mdconfig ]; then
            #Create initial mdadm.conf
            # scan all devices in /proc/partitions

  • How does the iphone's accelerometera works?

how does the accelometer still working even when the iphone is shut down?
when I start the iphone after complete shut down and hold it in front of my face of knows what angle is this. how? accelerometer measure movement...

unless the iphone have another battery that keep measure the iphone movement even when it shut down, and then when I start the IPhone again it's know what he's position.
The iPhone does not remember its position. When it's turned on, the accelerometer detects the force of gravity, so can calculate how much the phone is tilted. This tilt reading, combined with the magnetic compass reading, can determine the phones orientation. The GPS can give the phone's location. None of this requires knowing anything that happened to the phone while power was off.
This is unlike an inertial guidance system, which has to continuously monitor rotation and acceleration to calculate how far it has moved from a starting position. An inertial system, would use too much power, and be too large and expensive, for a hand-held device. They are used for systems that have to work without outside signals, such as radio beacons or GPS. Inertial guidance systems are used on submarines, for some underground position measurements (such as mining and oil well drilling), and for plane and missile systems that have to work when GPS may be unreliable due to jamming or satellite destruction.

  • Transfer Rules: How does the mapping work?

Transfer Rules: How does the mapping work?
Is there a document out there that explains the following or can someone help clarify it for me. I have some confusion on what is really going on.
When I create an InfoSource (IS_Test)  as a “Flexible update…”  and then “Assign DataSource”  (DS_Test) and I respond Yes, to the message “DataSource assignment DS_Test to InfoSource IS_Test Save”
    a) <b>Under “Transfer_Structure/Transfer_Rules”</b> in the InfoSource
    1)  the “Transfer Rules” tab, what are the fields found in the right column (Assigned InfObjct-field)? And where do the fields you enter in the left column (<b>Communication Str/</b>Transfer rules) eventually go?
    2)  the “DataSource /Trans. Structure” tab, can I always assume that all the fields in the right column (DataSource) came from DS_Test? The left column (Transfer Structure), in my test was exactly the same as on the right. Where do these fields eventually go?
    b) Under “<b>Communication_Struct.”,</b> in the InfoSource
    3. the right column (ISource Fileds) where from those InfoObjects. if I am now creating my InfoSource. Where did they come from?
    4. The left column is “<b>Communication Structure</b>”, which at this point has no InfoObjects, if I move a couple of InfoObjects from the right to the left, where do these Objects in the left eventually go?
    5. what is the relationship between the “Communication Structure” in 4 and 1? Or any relationship between a) and b) as a whole?
    Thanks.

    Hi Caud,
As Ashish pointed out, communication structure contains fields (infoobjects) that suppose to go to data targets. Which IO in CS to which IO in the data target will go (and what transformation of data may occur) is determined in URs of the data target.
The transfer structure is the structure in which the data is transported from the source system into BW:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_bw33/helpdata/en/3f/0e503c3c0d563de10000000a114084/frameset.htm
In “Transfer_Structure/Transfer_Rules” in the IS, DataSource /Trans. Structure” tab, right part shows fields in the Datasource, the left part – fields in the transfer structure. There is also a transfer structure in R/3 for a given DS. Transfer structure in BW is created identical to the TS in R/3 during TRs activation.
During data load data are transferred 1:1 from TS in R/3 to TS in BW.
TS in BW corresponds to the PSA table structure.
How data from PSA are transferred to the CS is determined in TRs.
The 3rd column (“Field”) (“Transfer Rules” tab, right part (Assigned InfObjct-field)), contains field names of the DS (TS); and the 1st column shows IO in the CS to which the DS field will go. So, it’s a mapping DS filed -> CS field.
The left part (“Communication str./Transfer rules”) is always identical to the CS content. But the 4th column (“Tp”) shows possible data transformation during transfer from PSA to CS. If this column contains a yellow triangle then there is no transformation (Value of DS field will go to value of CS field). If there is a red cross, it means that no data for this CS field is supplied from a DS. You can click on this yellow triangle and choose: 1). Another field from a DS; 2). Constant; 3). ABAP routine; 4). Formula. So, here you can determine the data transformation. Moreover, there is a possibility to create a start routine (blank sheet icon at the top).
And finally, here are the answers on your questions:
    Q:
    a)     Under “Transfer_Structure/Transfer_Rules” in the InfoSource
    1) the “Transfer Rules” tab, what are the fields found in the right column (Assigned InfObjct-field)? And where do the fields you enter in the left column (Communication Str/Transfer rules) eventually go?
A: Right part shows a mapping between DS and CS fields. Left part shows CS fields and data transformation (TRs) during data transfer from TS (PSA) to the CS. These are fields in the CS that will go to data target and which are fed from a TS (DS).
Q: 2) the “DataSource /Trans. Structure” tab, can I always assume that all the fields in the right column (DataSource) came from DS_Test?
    A: Yes, you are right.
Q: The left column (Transfer Structure), in my test was exactly the same as on the right. Where do these fields eventually go?
A: As I described, left and right parts are identical. These fields will go to CS.
    Q: b) Under “Communication_Struct.”, in the InfoSource
    3. the right column (ISource Fileds) where from those InfoObjects. if I am now creating my InfoSource. Where did they come from?
A: these are fields from an IS template, the name of this template you can see above this right part.  Actually, during IS (CS) creation you can choose different templates and choose fields from them transferring them into the left part.
Q: 4. The left column is “Communication Structure”, which at this point has no InfoObjects, if I move a couple of InfoObjects from the right to the left, where do these Objects in the left eventually go?
A: these are fields of CS (left part) and as I said before they will go to data target.
Q: 5. what is the relationship between the “Communication Structure” in 4 and 1? Or any relationship between a) and b) as a whole?
A: CS in 4 just shows IOs that will be transferred to data target. CS in 1 also shows how values for CS IOs are to be fed and transformed.
    Best regards,
    Eugene

  • How does the SDK and Reader handle printing with orientation?

I have a document that I want to print, and it contains a portrait page on Page 1, and a landscape page on Page 2.  Acrobat Reader correctly prints these pages (with a single print job), and I'm assuming it's because of the auto-rotate option on the print dialog.  Is this a feature of Reader, the API, or how the printer handles the request.  I've tried printing this PDF just using the JAva API, but the orientation remain portrait for all pages.  How does the Adobe Acrobat API deal with mixed orientation pages?  Ignore the fact that I did my test printing with Java, because my question is whether or not the auto orientation is a feature of the UI, the SDK, or the printer (or a combination).

Same as the current Ipod Video or "Classic" there is an option under settings to toggle between original aspect ratio or Full Screen.

  • How Does the scheduler works with ODI engine

    Hi All,
I am new to the ODI and I was going through the documents over the web regarding the scheduling.
Can anyone please let me know how does the Scheduler in ODI is coupled with the ODI engine.
How does the internal scheduler works and how does the external one works. What are the processes the it calls while invoking the scheduler.
Your help will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Sumit

Scheduling in ODI is controlled by a special type of ODI agent, strangley called the ODI scheduling agent. This agent is installed as a service and as well as being responsible for all tasks associated with a normal agent is also responsible for managing ODI jobs based on any scheduling information associated with an ODI scenario. All scheduling information is stored in the ODI repository and the scheduler agent reads from this to determine which jobs/scenarios need to be executed and when.

How does the ADF support romote call method between two managed server ?

You would usually use this as a WebService through the WSDL that is exposed.
JDeveloper can help you create a Java Proxy to call the Web service if you point it to the WSDL file that was generated for your AM.
