How expand an existing database in a cluster to an existing cluster node?

Hi Guys,
I was installing a RAC yesterday and below is my installation steps path, please help me to move forward.
I have 2 Redhat5 servers: Node1 and Node2. I installed Clusterware and ASM on both nodes, so the system looks like this:
Node1: Clusterware, +ASM1
Node2: Clusterware, +ASM2
Because I found some hardware issue with "Node2" so I shut it down for maintenance. Because of the tight schedule, I started RAC database installation on "Node1" only. So now the system looks like this:
Node1: Clusterware, +ASM1, ORCL
Node2: Clusterware, +ASM2
* "ORCL" is the DB_NAME installed
Now, the "Node2" is back online and I would like to expand my ORCL instance to the "Node2". I am a bit confused of what to do next, should I use addNode.sh? Or run Oracle database installer on Node2 then use addNode.sh?
Thanks

1) [grid@server1 ~]$ cluvfy comp peer -n server2 -refnode server1 -r 11gR2
2) [grid@server1 ~]$ cluvfy stage -pre nodeadd -n server2 -fixup -verbose

6) cd $ORACLE_HOME/bin

    Dear all,
I have  two nodes file server cluster running on WS28R2. With hardening policy, I was disabled admin shared. But right now with some pre-requisite of a software. I have to use admin$ on cluster virtual name. Then enable admin shared back, after

    Hi,
Have you restarted the Server service?
Also, you're asking this question in the wrong forum, this forum is meant for Q&A discussions on the forums redesign, not product support.
You can either wait for a moderator to move this thread or you can start a new thread in the Windows Server forum here:

  • Why the non-cluster SQL Server appeared in the cluster nodes list

1, I install the node rs6 standalone, Why it appeared in the cluster node list by inquiry the dmv?
2, how to removed the rs6 from the cluster node list ?
by "set -clusterownernode -resource "XXXASQL" -owners NODE1,NODE2"?
But how to find the resource  name? I tried to use window cluster name, SQL cluster name, and SQL role name , All of them say failed to get the cluster object.
3,how to set the owers to {}, I try below, but failed.

IMHO, sys.dm_os_cluster_nodes  DMV is associated with the SQL Server
Operating System (SQLOS), sys.dm_os_cluster_nodes returns one row for each node in the failover cluster configuration.
As you are running standalone instance on cluster I am assuming this information is being picked from
OS and not from RS6 SQL instance.
As you have confirmed Is_cluster is false and if you don’t see RS6 instance in failover cluster manager I don’t think anything damaged here. Everything looking as expected, dont change owner node as its standalone instance.

  • How to install a database on a MS Windows 2008 R2 failover cluster?

    Hello,
I have to install a Oracle 11g R2 database onto a MS cluster (Windows Server 2008 R2 Failover Cluster with 2 nodes and shared storage). I installed the DBMS on both nodes. On the first node, I created a tablespace, the files are on the shared storage. I can connect to that database, up to here everything is fine.
But the problem is: How do I have to configure the DBMS on the second node to use the existing database files in the case when the second node gets the Cluster IP and the shared storage? The switchover is done, all database files (in the filesystem) can be seen on the second node.
The goal is to connect to the database from an external application, regardless which node is active.
I know the "Oracle Fail Safe Manager", it is already installed on both nodes.
A link to the related documentation would be helpful, I can't find anything.
    Best regards,

Can you connect to the database and check for the Tablespaces ?
Normally, with OFS you define Groups. In one Group you'll have the Database, the Disk, the IP address and the Listener. So when you move the Group from one node to another one, the disk will be recognized on the second node then, the database, listener, ... will start and, there's no reason to loose a datafile.

  • How many SECONDARY INDEXES are created for CLUSTER TABLES?

how many SECONDARY INDEXES are created for CLUSTER TABLES?
    please explain.

There seems to be some kind of misunderstanding here. You cannot create a secondary index on a cluster table. A cluster table does not exist as a separate physical table in the database; it is part of a "physical cluster". In the case of BSEG for instance, the physical cluster is RFBLG. The only fields of the cluster table that also exist as fields of the physical cluster are the leading fields of the primary key. Taking again BSEG as the example, the primary key includes the fields MANDT, BUKRS, BELNR, GJAHR, BUZEI. If you look at the structure of the RFBLG table, you will see that it has primary key fields MANDT, BUKRS, BELNR, GJAHR, PAGENO. The first four fields are those that all cluster tables inside BSEG have in common. The fifth field, PAGENO, is a "technical" field giving the sequence number of the current record in the series of cluster records sharing the same primary key.
All the "functional" fields of the cluster table (for BSEG this is field BUZEI and everything beyond that) exist only inside a raw binary object. The database does not know about these fields, it only sees the raw object (the field VARDATA of the physical cluster). Since the field does not exist in the database, it is impossible to create a secondary index on it. If you try to create a secondary index on a cluster table in transaction SE11, you will therefore rightly get the error "Index maintenance only possible for transparent tables".
Theoretically you could get around this by converting the cluster table to a transparent table. You can do this in the SAP dictionary. However, in practice this is almost never a good solution. The table becomes much larger (clusters are compressed) and you lose the advantage that related records are stored close to each other (the main reason for having cluster tables in the first place). Apart from the performance and disk space hit, converting a big cluster table like BSEG to transparent would take extremely long.
In cases where "indexing" of fields of a cluster table is worthwhile, SAP has constructed "indexing tables" around the cluster. For example, around BSEG there are transparent tables like BSIS, BSAS, etc. Other clusters normally do not have this, but that simply means there is no reason for having it. I have worked with the SAP dictionary for over 12 years and I have never met a single case where it was necessary to convert a cluster to transparent.
If you try to select on specific values of a non-transparent field in a cluster without also specifying selections for the primary key, then the database will have to do a serial read of the whole physical cluster (and the ABAP DB interface will have to decompress every single record to extract the fields). The performance of that is monstrous -- maybe that was the reason of your question. However, the solution then is (in the case of BSEG) to query via one of the index tables (where you are free to create secondary indexes since those tables are transparent).

  • How to create a database for sample code from Tutorial/Book?

I want to try out the sample code from [http://shop.oreilly.com/product/0636920013471.do] for the book SQL Pocket Guide 3rd Ed.
I have downloaded the oracle vm/appliance for oracle 11g2 and I have started sqlplus as sysdba.
I'm feeling overwhelmed with these links describing how to create a database:
    (1) What is the command to list the existing databases?
    (2) What is the command to delete an existing database?
    (3) When creating a new database with the create database command, is it necessary to specify the logfile, character set, national character set, datafile, sysaux datafile, undo tablespace, temp table space? Do these have reasonable defaults? I'm not sure what proper directories are to specify for Linux and the examples are for windows.
Can someone give me a simplified create database command to create a database called 3rdEdPocketGuide? Should I follow the example at [http://tldp.org/HOWTO/Oracle-7-HOWTO-3.html] and instead of orcl use 3rdEdPocketGuide?
    (4) What command do I use to execute the script that comes with the book SQL Pocket Guide 3rd Ed? This is the script that has all the drop table, create table and insert commands in it.
    (5) What command do I use in sqlplus to set the current default database prior to running this script? Perhaps this is the connect command? I don't want my script to create tables in the system database.
    (6) I tried the command "connect 3rdEdPocketGuide" and it prompted for a password! Yikes! What password? Do I need to specify a password when I create a database? I cannot tell if I have successfully created such a database or it is just prompting me for a password to thwart malicious users. Is it is possible to create databases which don't require a password or maybe a zero length password?
    Thanks
    Siegfried

    Everyone:
Do I need to create a user using SQL*Plus first so I can login with "Oracle SQL Developer" so I create my database called? What would be the "create user" command I would execute?
OK, so I run sqlplus and issue these commands
    create user siegfried identified by abc ;
    grant connect to siegfried ;
    connect siegfried/abc;
Now, how do I create a database? In Microsoft SQL Server one has to create a database first and if you just start creating tables without creating a database first, the tables will be created in the system database and this is usually undesirable.
Sometimes a database is known in the java connection string as the catalog. Is there any such analog in oracle SQL plus?
So now what do I do? I want to create a bunch of tables using my script I downloaded from 3rd Ed SQL Pocket Guide. Does my new user "siegfried" have the right to create tables? I guess I could try but I don't want to create tables in the system database.
I noticed I can also use "Oracle SQL Developer" to connect with my new "siegfried" account. It seems that I should have been able to connect with sysdba... strange.
So now I am connected in the "Oracle SQL Developer" and I see no list of databases.

Can any body suggest me how to solve this.....
    Thanks in Advance..
    Kasi Chukka

    Hi Kasi,
Your question is not very clear, from the looks of it, the load on your client's system will be doubling soon.
You need to look at the system stats on how the system is handling the current load, use transactions ST06, ST04 and ST02 to check if the DB hit ratios are as expected, the cpu idle time, the busy periods. Identify if there is large amounts of paging on the server(candidate for increase in real memory).
On AIX level, you will need to look at CPU / Memory usage.
On SAP Application server, you need to look at SAP Buffers.
On Oracle end, look at SGA stats, if it need to increase, the data growth that is current and estimated growth (DB02).
You will not get an exact answer to it, you will need to analyze the existing load and then estimate (guess). The hardware upgrade will also depend on what the client is willing to spend, its always a good practise to add 20% to what you have estimated as these figures are never accurate.
    All the best.
    Cheers,
    Nisch

  • How can we handle database exceptions in bpel?

    Hi,
I'm calling a couple of pl/sql based services in my bpel flow. Given the services are pl/sql based we might hit some databse errors . For example:
-Existing State of Packages has been discarded
    -Database is down
-PL/sql procedure itself throws an error etc
I want to know how can any such database errors be handled gracefully? Can these be handled by a fault handler? If so, how?
    Thanks!

You can use a catch/catchAll around the scope where these database related activities are happening. Within the Catch/CatchAll block, you can decide and provide the logic for a retrial or termination of the process or any other behaviour that you want.

  • How to connect multiple databases

    Hi all,
This is my situation , i need to set the max number of connections to one database , if the connection exceeds then i need to connect to another database , is there any way to solve it? please help me

Sounds like you want to write your own load balancer. Sweet!!
As was already stated, this would be best handled by clustering your database servers.
If it's not done at that level, what's the next best option? How are your users currently connecting to the database? Is it through a web server or from stand-alone clients? If it's a web server, the server should have some facility for creating datasources and pooling connections. If you are dead set on switching to a different database when the number of connections in the pool has been maxed out, then you might have to write your own singleton class to manage the connection pool(s).
If your users are connecting through stand-alone clients, you have to force the client applications to connect through a single server that controls the connections.
There's one major problem with switching databases...if a user saves some data there is no guarantee that they will connect to the same database when they want to read the data at some later point. Maybe if there is replication between the two databases in the cluster, they might be able to do that.

  • How to lock a database Z table before updating it through a report program

    Hi,
How to lock a database Z table before updating it through a report program and also how to unlock it after my updation.
The whole process is done through report program.

    Hi,
Go to SE11, in the option 'Lock object' enter the name of your lock,
begin with 'E', suppose 'EXXXX' And create. In tab 'Tables' fill the
table name where the record you want to lock exist and select the
lock mode. Lock mode can be shared and exclusive. If 'shared',
when you lock the record, other can also read data, but can not
modify. If 'exclusive', when you lock the record, other can neither
read nor modify the record. After save and activate, you will get two
    function module.'ENQUEUE_EXXXX' to lock record,
'DEQUEUE_EXXXX' to release lock on one record.
When use this function module it only lock one record at a time. It
    does not lock the table.
