HOW INCREASE SGA IN ORACLE RAC 10 G WITH 2 NODES

How increase sga_max_size, sga_target in ORACLE RAC 10 G WITH 2 NODES;
i have oracle 10g in unix hp-ux 11i in rac (2 nodes)
with sga 8g; and i want to increase 12g;
i can alter these parameters without shutdown the entire database ?; , i can alter and take these change in one node first and later de second node?
i used in first node :
1- alter system set sga_max_size=16g scope spfile;
2- alter system set sga_targer=12g cope spfile;
later i restard all intance one by one:
srcvtl stop instance -d my_database -i my_instance1 -o immediate;
srcvtl start instance -d my_database -i my_instance1
3- in second node.
srcvtl stop instance -d my_database -i my_instance2 -o immediate;
srcvtl start instance -d my_database -i my_instance2
but my sga is the SAME 8G.. WHY NOT CHANGE...
i changed these parameters and restar my instance in first node later stop and start using srvctl the second node but my sga not change. continue in 8g ;however these changes are in spfile so;
prd2.sga_max_size=8589934592#internally adjusted
prd1.sga_max_size=8589934592#internally adjusted
*.sga_max_size=17179869184
prd2.sga_target=8589934592
prd1.sga_target=8589934592
*.sga_target=12884901888
prd2.thread=2
prd1.thread=1
how i can apply these change node by node or i need shutdown the entire database?
need to make these changes without affecting my application because i can not shutdown the both node...

Hi,
I just checked on a test RAC configuration (HP-UX, 10.2.0.4)
You don't need to stop the database.
Keep your "rolling" original scenario but change :
alter system set sga_max_size=16g scope spfile;
alter system set sga_target=12g cope spfile;by
alter system set sga_max_size=16g scope spfile sid = 'PRD1';
alter system set sga_target=12g scope spfile sid = 'PRD1';
alter system set sga_max_size=16g scope spfile sid = 'PRD2';
alter system set sga_target=12g cope spfile sid = 'PRD2';Actually
alter system set sga_max_size=16g scope spfile;
alter system set sga_max_size=16g scope spfile SID='*';changes globally the values for every instance in the spfile ("*.XXXXXX" is updated) but it does not remove the specific entries already assigned to one particular instance (and it is your case !)
Alternatively you could reset the values assigned specifically to one instance with "alter system reset" to have only "*.XXXX" for those parameters.
Best regards
Phil

  • Increase SGA in Oracle 10g

    Hi everyone,
    I am Ann. I am not a DBA, because the main DBA and Developer is on maternity leave have to step up to look after an Oracle Application Forms and Reports and Oracle database (version 10.1).
    Recently, people complaints the apps is slow.
    So I open the Enterprise Manager, and check the Performance Adviser, it shows one issue
    Finding          The buffer cache was undersized causing significant additional read I/O.
    Impact (minutes)          5.31
    Impact (%)
    13.13
    The recommendation is Increase SGA target size by increasing the value of parameter "sga_target" by 928 M. (there is a button Implement next to the message).
    The findings path is
    The buffer cache was undersized causing significant additional read I/O.
    13.13
    Wait class "User I/O" was consuming significant database time.     16.27
    About the server, we use OpenSuse. I also log into the server as root.
    Type free command to get info about memory and here is the details
    borg:~ # free
    total used free shared buffers cached
    Mem: 6101512 6001288 100224 0 180376 4636256

    Swap: 12586916 1728548 10858368
    I just want to know is it safe to run the implement button to increase the SGA target size.
    I know that I have to shutdown and restart the instance.
    Many thanks,
    Ann

    You shouldn't do anything until
    1. You confirm that there is, in fact, a problem
    2. You determine exactly what the problem is
    3. You determine the cause, or causes, of the problem
    4. You identify, and rank, possible solutions to the problem
    5. You test possible solutions in a dev/text environment to make sure your process works as expected.
    6. You script a method to 'undo' any changes you make
    >

    >
    So what! People always complain that apps are slow. While it's fine to take note of that don't make a knee-jerk reaction to it.
    Gather more information.
    1. Slow in what way? entering data? running reports? batch jobs?
    2. Slow when? first thing in the morning? mid-day when all users are on the system? all the time?
    3. How long has it been slow? Just started? A couple of days? a few weeks?
    4. What does the main DBA say about the reported slowness? Have you called to ask? Why not? They are on maternity leave not climbing the alps or Himalayas. Call them and ask them if they were aware of reported problems.
    5. Did you ask the main DBA what you should look at? Why not?
    Tell us more information. What are the memory parameters now?
    Open a sql*plus session and then run and post the results of
    1. SHOW PARAMETER SGA_TARGET
    2. SHOW SGA
    3. SHOW PARAMETER POOL

    Any ideas?

    How does SCAN work?
    “When a client submits a request, the SCAN listener listening on a SCAN IP address and the SCAN port is contracted on a client’s behalf. Because all services on the cluster are registered with the SCAN listener, the SCAN listener replies with the address of the local listener (Using SCAN the connection is initiated using the SCANIP, but is established using the VIP) on the least-loaded node (Each scan listener keeps updated cluster load statistics) where the service is currently being offered. Finally, the client establishes connection to the service through the listener using VIP on the node where service is offered.All of these actions take place transparently to the client without any explicit configuration required in the client.”
    So, to SCAN Works you must aware:
    Server (cluster)
    -The service must be registered on Local/Scan ListenerI believe I've done this now but see below.
    Database (rac)
    -You must use remote_listener parameterThe remote listener parameter I have is:
    SQL> show parameter remote listener
    NAME                    TYPE     VALUE
    remote_dependencies_mode     string     TIMESTAMP
    remote_listener           string     rac-scan:1521
    remote_login_passwordfile     string     EXCLUSIVE
    remote_os_authent          boolean     FALSE
    remote_os_roles           boolean     FALSE
    result_cache_remote_expiration     integer     0
    Cient
    -Must resolve all SCAN Names and VIP Names (check with nslookup)I'd made a mistake there. My VIP names were not available from DNS.
    -Must access port of Listener
    Try it:
    http://levipereira.wordpress.com/2011/05/03/configuring-client-to-use-scan-11-2-0/
    Thanks, that document was useful however I don't think I've got it completely right as yet as I have no listener_scan2.

  • How to get standalone Oracle HTTP Server with mod_plsql?

    Hi,
    I do not know if it is just me but it seems to be a nightmare to get OHS with mod_plsql from the official OTN download site. I downoaded the companion CD for Windows - 3 disks, installed OHS - no mod_plsql. Then I tried to find any clue on OTN on how to download mod_plsql - none. Plenty of information on how to configure it and use it, but nothing on how to get it.
    PLSQL gateways is not an option for us because many of our clients do not allow direct communication between the database and the Internet.
    Windows 2003 Server R2
    Apex 3.2.1
    RDBMS 10.2.0.4
    Any help appreciated,
    WK
    PS.
    I would not like to download the software from unofficial sites but rather get it straight from Oracle.

    Hi,
    For those interested: I found Oracle HTTP Server with mod_plsql on OTN -> downloads -> middleware -> WebCenter suite.

  • Oracle RAC One with SAP?

    Hello,
    are there any plans to release RAC One with SAP?
    Will it be included in the general Oracle RAC 11.2 release for SAP?
    Who can tell me the (list) price for Oracle RAC One for SAP systems?
    The note 527843 doesn't help with any of these questions.
    Regards,
    Mark

    Hello,
    I am especially interested in the licence policy of RAC One.
    Will it be part of standard or extended licence ???
    Generally RAC One is an Oracle Option that just limits the RAC with 2 nodes.
    If SAP makes certification for "RAC" generally and not for "RAC One" this would be
    no technical reason.
    If somebody authorized can answer my question this would be great.
    Best Regards
    Andreas

Just one problem - now after 10 mins or so - one of my nodes loses communication which barks out a PRKH-1010 error after trying to run a status check on my nodes using the srvctl status nodeapps -n <servername> command.
    any clues or ways to diagnose?

    Hi!
    The gsd relies on some files residing in /tmp/.oracle
    Are they still there?
    GSD is known to stop if they are absent.

  • Oracle RAC Installation: Unix nodes, Windows ASM

    I have a question about configuring Oracle RAC. I have never done any RAC or ASM installation before. Might be a stupid question for some of you.
    Is it possible to install Oracle RAC using following options?
    2 node RAC using Sun Solaris
    Shared Storage using ASM in Windows server
    Any additional information that you can provide will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    First of all, do you have a shared storage available to both unix server or you want to use the windows server as a shared storage ?
    From the documentation
    Single Instance and Clustered Environments:
    Each database server that has database files managed by ASM needs to be running an ASM instance. A single ASM instance can service one or more single-instance databases on a stand-alone server. Each ASM disk group can be shared among all the databases on the server. In a clustered environment, each node runs an ASM instance, and the ASM instances communicate with each other on a peer-to-peer basis.
    Which means that you need to have ASM instance on every server where you have a database instance.
    In case you don't have a shared storage to the unix servers, you have two options - iSCSI or NFS. You can setup the windows machine as an iscsi server and both unix machines as an iscsi clients then you will have shared storage on both unix machines. The other option is to configure the window machine as NFS server and mount the NFS share on both unix machines. Then you can deploy the data files directly at the NFS shared (not supported) or create empty files using dd and use then as device files for ASM.
    For more information on ASM over NFS you can read Tim Halls article:
    http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/linux/UsingNFSWithASM.php

  • How to install the Oracle Apps R12 with an existing OAS 10g

    Hi All,
    I am planning to install the Oracle Apps R12 and I already downloaded the media-pack from edelivery.oracle.com.
    But I am not sure how to do it because I have tree-tier architecteur at home :
    One computer with LINUX OS (OEL 5.5) which hold the Oracle Database 11gR2 -- Database tier
    One computer with LINUX OS (OEL 5.5) which hold the Oracle Application Server 10g ver 10.2.0 (infra and middle) -- Midel-tier
    One computer with XP OS -- Client tier
    Could any one explain me how to install it?

    Oracle Apps R12 comes with 11gR1 database, and to do multi-node installation please refer to these threads.

    As per new requirement i have to remove DB link ,is there any other way i can access both database with out DB link.Yes. But that needs another network and application interface instead of a database link.
    The target database can implement PL/SQL web services. These can be called via HTTP.
    The local database can use UTL_HTTP to make a call to the target database's web service for accessing target database data.
    Both databases can use AQ (Advance Queues). This can be integrated with an application server's JMS queues.
    This enable one database to enqueue a request to the other database, and for that database to respond by sending data.
    There are numerous such type of interfaces that can be used. Some primitive. Some advanced. Some simple. Some complex.
    The easiest and most flexible mechanism is however a database link. And it does not make sense to disallow database links for security and management reasons, but allow JMS for example. The network infrastructure is the same for both methods. The network protocol is the same. The security issues and concerns are the same - except that JMS for example is significantly more moving parts and make configuration and security a lot more complex than using a database link.

  • Oracle RAC 11g R2. Node pinned or unpinned?

    Hi all, I'm working with Oracle Clusterware & RAC 11 g R2.
    As is my first time, I really don't understand what is the meanning of pinning or unpinning a node.
    Can anyone help me please?
    Thanks in advance!!

    From 11.2 RAC deployment guide,
    Pinning a node means that the association of a node name with a node number is fixed. If a node is not pinned, its node number may change if the lease expires while it is down. The lease of a pinned node never expires.Since your installation is a clean installation ( no previous installation done) , you don't need to pin the nodes, it would be done by oracle clusterware.

  • Oracle 11gR2 RAC installation with DNS

    Dear Guru's,
    I want to configure RAC on two node cluster with DNS(For SCAN) in my testing server.
    O.S: RHEL5.4(64 bit)
    Oracle Version: 11gR2(11.2.0.2)
    Note: Am creating nodes in VMware ESXi server.
    Just I want to know whether DNS should be configure in any one of those NODES or in separate machine.
    Bala :)

    Hi Bala,
    I want to configure my Database with & without DNS. (Will try both installation in different servers)I think, you have already received a link on very good article about Oracle RAC installation without DNS and DHCP (I mean Jeffrey Hunter's article).
    There is one more about Oracle RAC installation with DNS and DHCP (http://gjilevski.com/2011/10/05/build-two-node-oracle-rac-11gr2-11-2-0-3-with-gns-dns-dhcp-and-haip/).
    And want to know how it forwards the client connection if a node fails.. Can anyone update the URL for this..There are a lot of information about it:
