How is Flash Sites done - Pages as Frames?
i am wondering how are flash web sites done? having frames to act as pages? is that the best way?
Ouch, a full Flash website with only code and dynamicaly builded is quite a complex matter.
There is for sure a tutorial out there... for this, and another one for that, and so on. What I'm saying is that, it is a matter of many different bits of "areas of knowledge".
When someone dwelves for the first time into making a professional full Flash website, he discovers many kinds of new difficulty regarding what first seems to be small details.
However, most flashers, (I guess...), eventualy starts to dwelve that way one day or another, because some tricks can only be done with code...
And yes, you can dynamicaly build a form in Flash. Usualy, for my part, I will design it in Flash, on the scene, and then make the code according to the layout. For sending the data to PHP or MySQL, that should be done with code anyway. But you are right, forms are complex because of the many different kinds of fields and menus and buttons (depending of the form).
Many will use some parts of the website as predone MovieClips (like forms), inside a full coded website. There is not a one-way-only to make a full flash.
Google for those bits you want (like forms), and you will find many a tutorial.

Flash site done - i got a problem
I have my flash site done... but now when i click on the contact page it will go the home page? I have looking, and looking but I can't find the problem. Any clue where I should look first?
If you want to have a look, here is my link: http://www.idmiami.com/maria/ForSmiles.html
Thank you.It would appear as though you either do not have a stop() for your contact us section, or there is some code causing it not ignore a stop(). You'll need to explain how the design is done and what controls you have implemented for navigation.

How is this Flash Site done?
I'm trying to make a site like www.georgespencer.com
Any ideas how its done?well mayb..bt i'm having difficulty figuring out two
functionalities here..
1. when you click on any thumbnail..it zooms and navigation
buttons appear at the sides..if you move to any other clip and then
click on the "ZOOM OUT" button the movie zooms out at the clip
where it had stopped. How do i detect which thumbnail was on the
screen when the zoom out btn was clicked?
2. when u reach a the end of any row or column u have an
option to move the 1st clip of the next row e.g.
if you reach at the end of the 1st row..the right arrow btn
changes to another button which then slides down the Movie to the
1st clip of the 2nd row.. how is dis done? -

Hello all, I'm brand new to the forum and was hoping to get
some insight. Is it possible to have your page rankings just as
good as an all html based site compared to an all flash based site?
Would descriptions and a summary inside the html of the page
holding the SWF help any? along with the meta tags of
course.Hi there,
I used SWFaddress for SEO for Flash. You will have to make
for each page in Flash a page in HTML. Like that google will still
find your content and pages. But maybe you have to look at the
website. It explains it better:

Some flash files don't appear on macintosh
I've installed the latest flash player on a macintosh 10.4.11. But I've noticed that a few flash sites don't appear. Among them the flash player page itself:
http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/
As you can see, where the flash movie should play there's just white space. Both on Safari and Firefox for Mac.
I've also tried in on another mac so it's not just my computer.
I've checked the version on: http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about and that flash movie runs fine. It also says: 'You have version 10,0,32,18 installed'
At home on a pc these pages (like http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer) work fine. What kind of thing could make the swf disappear on a mac? That one works fine on both macs to. It's not just my mac giving trouble. Tested in on another mac too to make sure it's not my computer. The other one has only the basic operating system (os 10.4.11) and the latest flash player and other default stuff. So no fancy additions like on mine. But the same result there:
http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/ - white space
http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about - no problem
Another site which gives white space is www.morethanline.nl. I can see the preloader, but after that the screen turns white exept for the red ribbon on the top left which says 'vacatures' . Clicking on that doesn't do anything, which I expect is because it changes the main movie in the center. Which is white so even though it would change to the 'vacatures' page, I wouldn't see it.
Is it perhaps the way the swf loads external swf's? Some way that isn't compatible on a mac and works fine on a pc? I don't know how the products/flashplayer swf loads the external movie. Do you happen to know how it is loaded? I can see the play/pauze buttons as you can see from my screendump. Just not the loaded video. Perhaps there's some specific way it is loaded which doesn't work on a mac and gives white space instead? -
Hello all.
I would like to know how are scalabale flash sites done in
flash like
THIS ONE. I
tried to change html <object> tag's parameters regarding the
width and height but the results were not what i expected. Besides,
there has to be some ActionScript to set the position of visual
elements on the stage dynamically as I saw in some examples.
Thank you!swf width and height to 100%. set your stage scaling to
noscale. add a stage listener for onresize. -

Flash site play all frames without stopping
Hi all,
I'm just getting back into flash and have forgotten most of
what I knew. I've been handed a file and need to figure out how to
proceed to address this issue:
The file is a full website. It's a fairly simple design with
a graphic and some buttons. When you click one of the buttons, the
main graphic changes to content for that 'page'.
The problem is when the file is published it just plays every
layer/frame in it and loops as well. It should display the key
'home page' elements (buttons/main graphic) and then stop and wait
for a button to be clicked before running the code for that button.
I think maybe it needs a stop action on the first frame, but
in CS3 (or probably any version now, but that's what I'm using) I
can't figure out how to check to see what actions are on a frame,
and I apparently don't know how to add a stop action effectively to
the first frame.
The file has an 'actions' layer, but if I click the first
frame of that layer (which appears to have an action attached to
it), I don't see any action. If I add a stop action, then publish,
the file DOES stop like it should, but then none of the buttons
work.
Does it sound like I need to insert a frame BERFORE the first
frame, and then add the stop action to that? In other words, could
it be the case that I'm putting the stop action on the first frame,
and the button layers operate (begin) on that first frame as well
such that when I click on a button it fires the stop action I setup
to stop the entire site file from playing?
Is there any other setting/issue that might cause a file
designed as I've described (simple website with buttons) to run
through all the content without ever stopping and waiting for
input?
If someone could just point me in the right direction, I
think I'll be fine. I might need to rearrange some of the layers so
they don't start on the first frame...so maybe that's it?
I know this is simple and I hate asking, but I have to get
this done quickly...
thanks for any help,
DBThanks for the reply, r_c,
I really appreciate your response. In an indirect way, it may
have at least helped me figured out the 'what happened' part.
I went back into the file and, just for the heck of it, was
going to add stop actions to every frame on the actions bar. During
that process I saw (for about the forth time) some comment code in
the actions window that I had sort of assumed was just there by
default (what was I thinking?). The comment said something like
'actions would NOT be exported in files in the unregistered
version'. In retrospect (and after a few slices of pizza), that
explains why there are lots of frames with the action symbol but
when I open the frame's action window no actions are there (just
the comment). I think whoever tried to modify this file tried to do
it with the trial download and then saved the file and the process
basically wiped out all the actions in the file :/ So I have a
flash site now with all th code missing.
That being the case (at least I'm pretty confident it is),
I'm going back to the guy tomorrow at work and tell him that, if he
(or his subordinate) was dumb enough to copy over the original file
instead of working on a copy then, at best, I MIGHT be able to
rework the thing by Tuesday (after the long weekend) to add back
all the necessary actions to have it functioning again.
That (process) will be kind of good review for me and,
besides, it might be easier essentially starting over than it would
be to try and follow someone else's setup all the way down to the
point where it's messed up....if that makes any sense. Plus, I can
rename all the layers instead of looking at 90 layers named 'layer
1', 'layer 2', etc etc...and then have the code use the descriptive
names.
Anyway, I do really appreciate the response. It helped me
find enough of an answer to know how to proceed from here, which is
the best I could have hoped for given my fairly vague description
of the situation to begin with.
Thanks again,

How to Best Optimize Flash site for performance (not SEO)
I am a newbie to Flash design. I have build this site for my client www.888acolyte.com
I watched a bunch of YouTube Videos on how to stracture a site and then pulled together a lot of features from different learning resources.
I loved Flash for its animation capabilities and used a lot of time line tweening in my site layout. My background has a moving blurry colorful spots animation, my pages come out and assemble themselves as animations, transitions and rollover done as animations.
All of it done via Flash's time line tweening.
As the end result site is stattering in performance rather significantly. I am not sure if it is because of the animations I have employed or because of something else?
I used JPG instead of PNGs as they take a lesser size. I used an 80 quality in them out of Photoshop.
Every JPG is scaled to 75% of its actual size as I expect the site to be bigger on some bigger screens. I set it up to "Allow Full screen"
Flash Tab Settings:
In the export options :
JPG Quality = 80
No Sound
SWF Settings:
Checked "Compress Movie"
Checked "Include Hidden Layers"
Checked "Include XMP Metada"
UnChecked "Export SWC"
HTML Tab Settings:
Dimensions: 100%
Quality: High
I looked up some resources for "how to optimise a flash site" and seems that the best one around would be from 2009: http://www.netmagazine.com/tutorials/optimise-flash-movies
There is also this "magic button" "Save and Compact", which did not seem to have much effect on the final size of an .swf file.
I hope to receive a feedback on how to properly stracture and optimize a Flash site for the best performance.
If to go into details is too complicated perhaps someone can point me to a good learning resource on the topic? If you're just needing a flash player, have you tried the JWPlayer from Longtail Video? That's what I'm using to view flash video on my site.

I'm building a website which is going to have 3 subdomains to load within . One html is going to promote the services and sell it (135mb), one WordPress blog news (15mb) and one vBulettin forum. For this reason I have a typical flash template with 4 selections, with one click for each of the 4 images which will describe the content, this will redirect people to the right place ( html website, blog, and forum ) . What is the best method to SEO my website ? I need people to know/easy to find me on google, to know abaut the services I offer, blog news and forum. I cannot enter all those menus on the services subdomain because I dont want people to get scared that they have to pay for someting and get out; the blog looks more worst compare with html so I cant enter all links in there..; forum its forum..
So my only decent option is to have this flash site with 3 big options which will redirect people to their choises. But how is going to affect SEO ? am'I going to need to SEO my subdomains, like www.mywebsite.com/services , or the main flash site ?
thank youI agree with what Ned is saying, the Home page for your site IS normally the most important and should be well packed with SEO targeted content... of which Flash by itself is not very good. In addition, iOS devices like the iPhone will not display the Flash.
So while it is possible to get great page rankings for those various sections, the HTML, Blog, or Forum, it may take longer and lacking good SEO for your Home page, in effect will dillute the overall SEO effectiveness of the site.
So my advise, don't use Flash for your Home page. If you do, then you should use swfobject and create extensive alternate content. This alt content will satisfy the SEO requirements as well as provide a display for iProducts.
For your review:
If you think that Flash is somehow bad for SEO, it's time to dispell that MYTH!
If fact, in some circumstances I'll use Flash INSTEAD of just HTML because then I'll have better SEO than with just HTML alone.
The client provided the artwork for the page... and that's what they wanted to use a .jpg image. Well yes, that could be done in HTML but it would be virtually invisible to Google. So Instead I converted the image into a Flash .swf and used swfobject to display the Flash. swfobject allows you to create alternate content inside the <div> which also holds the Flash .swf, then when the page is loaded it detects if the browser has the Flash pluggin. If it does, it displays just the Flash content, if not, it displays the alternate content. Since almost everyone has the Flash pluggin, for most people the Flash version of the <div> will display.
The alternate content for that <div> can be any regular HTML text, images, media player, links, etc., anything that you would use if you were not using the Flash. Now the best part is that the alternate content can be "over the top" as far as optimizing for SEO, since it will not be seen by most viewers.
Here's another example of SEO with Flash.. again, the page is just a single image provided by the client:
http://www.ksowetsuits.com/
View the source code. The alt content is paragraph after paragraph of information about the site, including lists and links. If it was just the HTML, it might be kind of a boring Home page. But for SEO I can go "over the top" in promoting the site, since most viewers will never see that part... but it's all indexed by search engines. The end result is BETTER SEO using Flash than just HTML.
On another Web site, a Flash video is displayed, the alt content is the complete text narration of the video. Now how many people would take the time to read that if they could just watch the video instead?? again, better SEO with Flash than without. In fact in one case we had first page search result from that video narration within 4 hours of posting the page.
On still another site with a Flash video, the alt content is another video, but a .mov version, which will, in effect play Flash video on the iPhone (not possible you say??). Well since the iPhone does not have Flash pluggin, it simply displays the .mov version of the video, while everyione else sees the Flash version.
So anyway, if Flash is a part of your Web development, you should look into using swfobject and alternate content.
http://code.google.com/p/swfobject/
Best wishes,

How can I resize my Flash site to fit any screen resolution?
I built a 100% flash site with tiled framing but I have a
problem. My flash was built 766 x 750 pixiels. When viewed at
resolutions greater than 1024x768 the webpage looks great but
anything less than that it looks like @#$@. I know most people
probably view at 1024 x 768. Is there anyway to auto resize based
up on screen resolution or something to detect the screen size and
adjust the webpage accordingly.

You think so? Even if they have their resolution that high
(which is
fairly standard, nowadays), do you think most people maximize
their browsers
to fill that whole area?
> Is there anyway to auto resize based up on screen
> resolution or something to detect the screen size and

There is, indeed. :) Check out the Stage.onResize event in
the
ActionScript 2.0 Language Reference. That event is dispatched
when the
browser (or whatever container) is resized -- in cases where
the SWF is
embedded with percentages. If that's your aim, you'll need to
code against
that event, which can be done like this ...
http://www.quip.net/blog/2006/flash/how-to-position-movie-clips-browser-resizing
It can take a bit of thought, depending on the complexity of
your goal,
but the result is usually worth it. The site in your URL is
already built,
so this wouldn't do much of anything without opening the
hood, so to speak,
and completely rebuilding the engine. A Flash movie has to be
designed and
programmed to respond to the Stage.onResize event.

How do I find and save the background music file of my Flash site?
I see that the background music in my Flash site is located in a symbol called muz. When I click the properties of this symbol, the sound file's location is listed as .\flash\sound\muz.wav I couldn't find that sound sub-folder in the flash folder nor could I find the file. I tried doing a search to look for the muz.wav file in my computer but it could not be found. Does anyone know how I can find and save this file? Can the symbol somehow be exported and the sound file be extracted that way?
I copied and pasted the symbol into an empty .fla file. This new .fla file is just 1 frame. Can you tell me what you mean by "spreading" it along the timeline? When I tried exporting it to a .wav file (as just 1 frame in timeline), I only hear a fraction of a fraction of the first note of the music in the generated .wav file. The music is heard fine in its entirety when previewing the .fla file (F12).
By the way, in the symbol's properties, there is an option to "Export for ActionScript" and an option to "Export for runtime sharing". Do you think any of these would work? -
How to export a flash project with a changing frame rate to a video
I have a Flash project that is a series of roughly 1000 images. The result of the images is a simple animation, and there is music imported on a separate layer.
There are moments in the music that I wanted to line up with certain frame changes, and there are sections of the music that I wanted to match up with a faster (double-time) frame rate.
I used this code in several places in the a code layer:
stage.frameRate = x;
The result is exactly what I want in SWF -- the animation speeds up and slows down at the exact right moments to match up with the music track, but it seems like it's just not possible to export this variable frame rate project to a video file?
According to the accepted answer on this post: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4019538, it seems that:
The export function in Flash Pro doesn't transcribe *frames*, rather it plays the Flash animation and records it like a camcorder
If that's true, then I would think there is a way to record a variable frame rate project into a video -- does anybody know if this is possible? That or Premiere would both get the job done. After Effects might be more desirable as it has a feature called Time Remapping (right-click on the video layer, Time->Enable Time Remapping). You can add keyframes to any point in a video and then drag them around to speed up or slow down the video. That'll allow for very precise tweaks.
Finally all I'd suggest is when you jump into your next project, make a quick dummy test project to see if the software you're using is easily capable of producing what you want. It'll solve the headache of completing the project only to land where you are now. Now you know Flash won't play nicely with scripts and Export Movie. If your desired end result was always a video I'd probably use video editing software to make the video. There's some free stuff out there if you really look, but no, it won't be as nice as After Effects or Premiere by any stretch. Although when you see how amazing After Effects is, you'll probably want to buy it . -
How-to flash with external static page? Help!
Hello all. I am new to posting so please be nice. I am
building a flash site and would like a page or something on how-to
link my flash.swf file to a page outside of the flash file (.fla) .
Let me explain a bit more... I would like a way for my wife to be
able to use Dreamweaver or something and edit a .html file that the
flash links to that would then show the page. So, basically when yo
goto the website it would show the smal flash at the beginning and
some flash page links but the actual content is really just a
static .html file. Make sense? Can someone please point me to a
how-to page or something?Hi,
