How is the Apple TVs analog audio quality?

I am thinking about buying an Apple Tv to stream music to my home theater system. Currently I have an airport express, but it's audio quality is not very good, even while streaming 320kbps AAC. I can not hook it up via the Optical port as my receiver doesn't have an optical in. Does the Apple TV's quality surpass that of the airport express, or is the same audio chip in both of them?
Thank you in advance.

If you have a set of earphones/headphones that are of very high quality, they might be able to pull out the static sounds and the compression artefacts of especially mp3 songs, that is for sure. In my opinion, the Zen outputs a rich spectrum of sounds quite well, although not nearly as well as with my PC (but I use all sorts of sound enriching programs on my PC..). The bass could be better, but I've heared worse from an mp3 player like this. I have a set of Koss PortaPro, which are able to get the bass frequencies out of the music fairly well. I use the custom EQ to up the bass, but the "Bass Boost" feature I don't like; it distorts the bass for quite a lots of my songs. The amount of features are outstanding for a music player in this price category, with a good video player, a large screen, SD-card slot, a dictaphone, radio and photo album ?(you can choose a custom background for the Zen from the photo album). Other neat features include customising the meny (rearrange stuff, add and remove things you don't like or want) and changing GUI theme.Message Edited by de_zwaluw on 2-3-20070:44 AM

  • Do i need a special licence to sell music in the Apple AIF/AIFF audio file

hello im a music producer, i sell customer non exclusive licences to my musical productions my question is Do i need a special licence to sell music in the Apple AIF/AIFF audio file. like i know for the Mp3 File format if i make a certain amount in sales or whatnot i would have to pay the owners of the MP3 file format royalties so im wondering if apple has some restrictions on using the apple AIFF/AIF file format in commercial digital downloads etc.
also wondering if there is any information regarding my issue anywhere on the apple site or if its in logics paper booklet or something,

I would think that if there is any information available from Apple, it would be found on their legal page. http://www.apple.com/legal/

  • Audio problem with one episode of iTunes tv show on two apple tvs but audio works fine on same show on iMac

I have a season pass to Dr Who and all 30+ other shows purchased on iTunes work great. Last night's episode (Hide) has a hissing sound so loud it drowns out all the audio in the show when i try to watch it on my Apple TV.  I then downloaded the episode to my iMac and my iPad and no audio issues there. However when I tried playing it shared from my iMac to the Apple TV and the audio problem was there again. Same thing happened when I tried to AirPlay from my iPad to Apple TV.
I have two Apple TVs. One is latest model w latest upgrade, the other is generation before without latest upgrade. Same audio issue on both. I have tons of iTunes TV shows and movies and this is the only episode with an issue. Something is wrong with this file that causes it to screws up the audio on Apple TV.
Has anyone else seen this kind of audio issue specific to just one TV episode or movie?  Anyone know support path for iTunes problems?

If other episodes play Dolby Digital fine this could be a file encoding problem - they sometimes get it wrong.
I suggest you all contact Apple about the problem via itunes store support here:

  • How many different Apple TVs can I share one iTunes Store account with?

I currently have one AppleTV at my home, and one at my mothers home. We both share the same iTunes Store account, therefore we share the movies that each other purchase. I am interested in getting my father and my aunt and Apple TV as well, I want them to also be able to use my iTunes Store account. That way, if say my father and I both want to watch the same movie, we can split the cost.
I also currently own an iPhone, and an iPad. I'm going to be getting my mother and father iPads as well. I want them to be able to use my iTunes Store account on those devices as well, and be able to stream movies on them.
I know it says that your iTunes Store account can only be associated with 10 devices, but I'm wondering where Apple TVs fit into that stance. It's probably a stupid question, but I was just curious if the fact that it is iCloud changes anything.
Essentially, I'm wondering if four Apple TVs, three iPads, one iPhone, and my one desktop computer can all stream my iCloud movie content, simultaneously. I doubt there will ever be more than two or three going simultaneously, but I just want to know the limitations before I buy these gifts for my family members and run into an unpleasant surprise.
    Thank you for your time,
    Charles

as many as you can other computers with itunes accessing the shared ituned lib
likely the limitation is the network bandwidth more then number of connected devices

  • How does the Apple Headphones with Remote Replacement Program non-return fee work?

I have a pair of Apple In-Ear Headphones with Remote and Mic that I purchased a year ago. According to the "Apple Headphones with Remote Replacement Program", http://www.apple.com/support/headphones/replacementprogram/, these headphones are also covered in the program. Currently, there are some issues with my headphone's remote, as it is extremely unresponsive. I don't know how Apple determines the headphone's purchase date, but their online service request page accepts my iPhone's serial number. Is there any way that i could ensure that Apple's willing to replace the headphones for free (E.g. mailing my current ones in first) because the non-return fee is basically its retail price. I do not live in the US so I can't go and exchange at an Apple Retail Store. Thanks in advance.

I would just bring them into your local Apple Store/Genius Bar and ask.

  • How did the Apple Genius tech run that diagnostic test?

Hello guys. I had a problem with my MacBook Pro with Lion when I installed Citrix Receiver. That drained the battery etc.... I took it to the Apple store and the Genius tech run a diagnotic test on it and fixed it. It seems it is a very common problems with Citrix and Lion.
He run the test after he connected an Ethernet cable to it. Then, a series of small windows were displayed on the computer: the good ones were in green and the bad one was the Citrix one. I don't know if this was Apple Hardware Test (tried with pressing the D button while restarting, didn't work). I didn't run the DVD though.
Can somebody tell what was that and how did the guy do it? Thanks

The Genius was using proprietary software that is only available to Apple-certified technicians.

  • How do the Apple Wireless Devices Compare?

I have a Motorola 3347-02-10ENT DSL router. I was thinking about disabling the wireless capability on the Motorola and upgrading to an Apple Airport Extreme and a couple of Expresses. I have a couple of quextions
    Questions -
1- Should I even bother with disabling the Motorola as the wireless base and avoid the cost of the Airport Extreme? Has anyone made a comparison and found the Apple devices better? Any reasons why (for or against)?
2 - Instead of the Apple Airports, would it be worth waiting for the Netgear Powerline AV 500 Adapter that promises up to 500Mbps? Is this faster than the wireless solution?
Here is the diagram of my existing home network -

    Thank you all.

Sorry, can't give you specifics on a comparison of the Motorola and Apple AirPort Extreme, but would offer a general comment that your proposed system will place very heavy demands on a wireless network backbone.
Video streaming, gaming, etc. is going to be "iffy" in my opinion, because you need as much bandwidth as possible for the network.
If you decided to use the AirPort Extreme, it will handle Gigabit ethernet, 1000 Mbps. But, you would have to connect everything using CAT6 or CAT5e cabling, which may not be possible.
If you can't run the ethernet cable, the next best bet would be the powerline devices you mention. IF...they perform up to spec, they would offer a bit less than half of the bandwidth capability of gigibit ethernet, "up to" 500 Mbps, according to your post.
The very best wireless networks can handle up to a bit less than 300 Mbps. But, this is at 5 GHz and 5 GHz signals do not hold up well over distance or penetrate obstructions nearly as effectively as conventional 2.4 GHz wireless.
But, at 2.4 GHz, you are limited to a bandwidth of up to 130 Mbps. In theory, this will work for video streaming. In practice, it may be another matter if any interference issues arise.
Your network may work fine as proposed, but I would advise you to use ethernet where you can as a first choice, powerline second and wireless a distant third.

  • How does the Edge E540 handle audio? (e.g. DPC Latency)

Hi, I know that some other Lenovo models have problems with very high DPC latency, causing drop outs and crackles while using CPU-heavy audio programs (music productiong, DJing etc), but I couldn't find any info specific to the Edge E540. So do any of you have experiences (good/bad) with the Edge E540 and audio?

    Hallo T1MUR,
vielen Dank für den Hinweis. Hat's gebracht!
Thanks a lot for that hint, I followed your suggestions and it worked just fine. The scripts you provided in my case all appear to just switch off KbdMgr.exe without leaving me with a lot of choices. I still have to figure out whether this behaviour can be improved by editing your batch files. For the time being it probably would suffice to kill the process in the windows task manager and to switch it on again if needed by double clicking it in the c:\programs\boot camp directory. One then has to reenable the function keys manually, whereas all other tunings affected by boot camp are kept. This is slightly inconvenient, but it's ok. The differences may be due to the fact that I am dealing with a MacBook Air, not a MacBook Pro.
Thanks again for your help, I really appreciated this.

  • How to change iTunes music store audio quality?

    Hi all,
I just bought some songs off of iTunes store, and I noticed that they're 128kbs M4A. Is there any way to change it to 192k or better? (And redownload the same songs in the better audio format?)
    Thanks

128kbps AAC should be fine for most users. (i.e. it's much better than 128kbps mp3). Some tracks will also be available via iTunes Plus which is 256kbps AAC.http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305567
    Click on this link:
    http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/iTunesPlusPage
and it will tell you how much it costs to upgrade your library.
Normally to convert music (i.e. I often reduce the quality on Audiobooks or podcasts to squeeze more on an iPod):
    - Go to iTunes menu > Preferences... > Advanced > Importing.
    - Make the settings to how you wish them and exit preferences.
    - Then select one or more files, right click and choose "Convert selection to...".
    This can't add quality though.

  • How do I keep 24/96 audio quality in CS6 Premiere Pro?

Another rook question here:  I record audio in 24/96.  How do I make sure to maximize the quality and keep the 24/96 when I import audio into Premiere Pro for editing, and also when I export (assuming I'm exporting to a high data rate 444 codec)?

I guess that what you do need to know is that Premiere can actually Export Audio at 24/96.
It can also do that with various "movie exports" as well. (Video/ audio streams)
Check them out in Adobe Media Encoder settings.
What you need to decide is if these "exports  " fit your workflow plan as regards Mastering ..then distribution / display.
You should be running tests on this anyway - especially seeing you are running dble system sound system and have a major synching exercise ahead of you as well
If  you mix a master 24/96 audio outside of Premiere...you should be able to use that in a sequence for mastering from but I think it will conform for previewing.
    Plan...test...test..test
If you want to really know what i think.  ....24/96 is over kill and you wont here the difference considering your intentions  ( but does not hurt to have up your sleeve and the audio guys may be grateful if they have a heapof work to do on it)
Are your mics up to it..considering you are shooting on a DSLR???

  • HT5219 Thunderbolt port devices and ethernet cables doesn't work under Windows 7 or 8 via Boot Camp unless I restart my computer... how are the apple developers so dump to not realize this mistake

How can you not resolve a problem so essentail related to swapping thunderbolt devices when running bootcamp? Everytime I diconnect a thunderbolt device, I have to restart in bootcamp for the mackbook pro to recognize it. Considering that I apid ~$3K for this laptop when I could have got a dell for half the price, it such a poor technology. How can apple developers be so dump that they didn't design a drive to resolve the issue... and to make it even more dumber, they acknowledge it ... hello any one with brains after steve jobbs passed away there!!!

I don't have a Thunderbolt machine but according to this article, Windows doesn't support Thunderbolt at all. That means Apple had to add Thunderbolt support in order for it to work even as it does. How would a Dell have solved your problem?

I hve an Iphone and would like to how the hearing aids work together?

Apple doesn't make hearing aids. iPhones are hearing aid compatibile, however. See this article:

Some hearing aids are also BlueTooth cable. See the manual for your hearing aid or consult your audiologist.
    Best of luck.

  • How will the Apple iMessage work?

    Hello everyone!!!!!
I am just wondering how the imessage will work?  Will there be a user name/password? Do I need to have my iphone contacts mobile number listed under "iPhone" vs. "mobile" ?
I contacted Apple last night but they are very closed mouthed...... he said he couldn't tell me even if he knew, which makes me think he knew!!!!!
    Any ideas would be great!!!!!!

Until Apple actually releases iOS 5.0, this is all the info there is. Anyone who did know would be under a NDA and risk losing their job if they said anything other that what has been published:

  • How to remove apple tv optical audio cap

Hi, Here is a very basic question: How do I safely remove the cap op the optical out on my Apple TV (3rd gen.)?
I don't want to demolish the brand new device and the manual doesn't say anything on this.

    Hey Winston Churchill,
Just also found your answer. Thanks for that, I had just found out.
Still strange that were Apple exceeds in fool proof solutions and descriptions, this is not described in the manual.
