How is the XMP workflow supposed to work between CS6 and LR4.1

Can somebody please enlighten me ?
I have a raw file in Lightroom, xmp files turned on.
I open the file as a smart object in Photoshop.
Back in Lightroom I do some edits, and to be sure, I save the edits back to the XMP.
Back in Photoshop, no matter what I try, my edits are not picked up. I tried opening the smart object etc...but ACR does not pick up the edits I just made in Lightroom (even when the XMP file is up to date).
If I resubmit the edited image from Lightroom, my edits are picked up, but this can't be the way it's supposed to work, can it ? What good is a smart object if you need to resubmit it each time...
Isn't the XMP workflow supposed to be seamless between adobe applications, picking up any edit, no matter where the edit is made (from acr to lightroom and vice versa) ?
I'm probably missing something, but would appreciate some help.

Taking a little distance and looking at it from that angle, I can understand why it works the way it does now.
Still, I feel there are some missed opportunities here.
Compared to working between indesign and photoshop, when I have an indesign layout and I later edit the placed photoshop document, Indesign gives me a warning that my version is changed and I can update it to reflect the latest state.
A similar thing could be done here inside photoshop "update to latest Lightroom edits" or something similar which could be totally optional for the end user to use or not.
My confusion was mostly caused by the XMP files, it stuck in my head that these were external files holding all knowledge and no matter which Adobe program you used, it would work with those same xmp files... but I understood wrong apparently.
I still have a lot to learn, thanks for all the answers, it is very helpfull.

How is the continue button supposed to work?

I have a quiz where each question is submitted before continueing to the next question. When all the questions are answered and the results page is displayed, the quiz acts as if the 'Continue' button has already been pressed. However if I take that same quiz and change it to 'Submit All' with a 'Next' button to go to the next slide after answering and then when complete and 'Submit All' is selected - the results page is displayed and stays there until I actually press the 'Continue' button. Does anyone know why the 'Continue' button works for a 'Submit All' quiz and not where each question is submitted individually?

I did checked just now and it works for me i.e. it does stop on both occasion whether I have Submit All enabled or not.
Can you remove the Quiz Result Slide and add it again from Quiz Preferences--Settings and check if the slide does pause for Continue button.

How is the Notes app supposed to work?

I'm experimenting and it seems that a note I create on the iPad in the Notes app gets synched to my Mac only when I sync thru iTunes, yes?
And for some reason it shows up in a certain mailbox (I have several). Is there some way I can get it to go into the "On My Mac" folder and not go into the InBox at all?
And the only way I can synch this note to my Iphone is to manually synch the iPhone thru iTunes, as well, yes?
Is there ANY way to synch Notes in these devices OTA? Mobile Me? Any way at all? I'm already paying for MobileMe, which syncs everything else just fine, I really don't want to have to use some 3rd party app just to keep my notes synched.

Does the iPad and iBooks only sync in iCloud for purchases as I appear to be doing something wrong. The "Set cost controls" concurrent program is used in R12 to mass update the cost control fields on item costs.
The cost control region is found by going to Cost management >Item costs > Item Costs
The concurrent program lets you specify which items /costs should be updated by using various parameters such as cost type, item range, category range etc.
And you can specify the source for the new cost control data and the new value for the fields.

If you want Bridge CS6 to open when using Photoshop CS6, you must quit Bridge CC.
Then File menu > Browse in Bridge will bring up Bridge CS6.
If Bridge CC is already open, The File > Browse in Bridge for Photoshop CS6 will use Bridge CC and Bridge CS6 will not open.

No, the camera connection kit only supports the copying of photos and videos to the Photos app, it doesn't support copying content off the iPad. For your second camera instead of the SD reader part of the kit, does the iPad to camera cable not work with it for direct transfer to the iPad ?
For Lightroom and Nikon software again no - you can only install apps that are available in the iTunes app store on your computer and the App Store app on the iPad, 'normal' PC and Mac (OS X) software are not compatible with the iPad (iOS). Cache is nothing but a buffer kinda where all the recently accessed data r stored.
so sometimes even after making changes u access the page the old data/page is displayed...
so Web AS cache works as a normal refresh deleting all the recently accessed data/pages...
it clears or frees ur memory so tht no irrelevant data is obtained...

How to make site root-relative links work in DW and Server both?

See details on buggy DW image link behavior, below. My question is:
1) how to make site root-relative links work in DW and Server both? Or…
2) how to reliably automate the change of several hundred legacy root-relative links of the form
/images/image.jpg to document-relative?
That is, to
../images/image.jpg or
../../images/image.jpg or
../../../images/image.jpg etc…depending on where the directory is.
The old format (/images/image.jpg ) used to work fine in my previous DW 8 configuration but appear grey in DW after “upgrading” to DW cs5.5 mac. (they look fine on the server, but it’s hard to edit image-heavy pages locally when they are all grey).
I tried changing the files to how DW creates root relative links now:
/public_html/images/image.jpg, which is a very easy, attractive root flow since there’s a one-to-one mapping. These look great in DW but are broken on the server!
I looked at the “advanced” site setup, and it looked like it might be possible to nuke the /public_html/ part of my server info…but it also looked like there was the potential for doing damage changing these settings, which are automatically generated from our server connection settings, which seem to work.
The “links relative to document/ site root” toggle…does that change how DW interprets existing links, or just change the default when you are adding a link? I have made 80% of the file links document relative…before wondering if root-relative isn’t better?
It sure seems less ambiguous for all those images if theres a way to make root relative work for DW design view, DW link check, and server.

Thanks for jumping on this.
All clear and understood about where publc_html is etc.
No contemplation of nuking the actual public_html directory on the server, just the "/public_html" text string at the start of the DW-generated links.
"/public_html" is automatically added to the front of the link in DW if I create the link with any of the GUI tools, if I have "site root relative" selected. And ""/public_html" ends up in the code, and gets uploaded that way to the server, where it (obviously) doesn't work.
Doesn't sound like it is supposed to work this way. Also, what seems to be the usual root relative format (/images/image.jpg) shows as a broken link in the GUI and an external link in the DW link check. All this togther makes me thinkI have some obscure setting incorrect?
The setting that caught my eye is manage sites/ site setup/ advance settings/ local info/ web url, which is automatically set to http://www.oasisdesign.net/public_html/
it gives an option to change it but it makes every effort to make this NOT look like something users should mess with:
Having gone through the more careful thought process during this post, I'm ready to do the experiment of changing the remote server web URL (why is it wrong by default?)...think I'll eat dinner first so there's 45 min to avert disaster if anyone knows this to be a bad idea!

Thank you Joe - I tried this but it's only showing a teensy amount of music - the stuff on the second users account as opposed to the giagntic library on the 'main' account. I actually went to a Genius Bar and they said that apple doesn't really want you to share music between accounts - parents don't want to hear their kids music etc. Which seemed strange, but it might be the case sadly Thanks anyway!

Please try:
Keep Ctrl + Alt + Shift keys pressed while launching PSE13 Editor and click OK on the dialog that comes next.

No, unfortunately the photomerge ui plugin will not work in photoshop cs6 on the mac side.
You can always use photoshop cs5 for those times when you really need it.
In photoshop cs6 you could align your photos manually as best you can, then select all the layers and go to Edit>Auto-Blend Layers>Panorama with Seamless Tones and Colors checked
