How old is the newest MacBook?

I am thinking of getting a MacBook (already have a pretty new iMac) and was wondering when the latest MacBooks were released and, given how often they "tend" to be updated, when folks would expect a major upgrade to come along? I don't want to get one now and have a big upgrade come along in a few months - I'd rather wait for the upgrade. I know that some folks know the typical timing of these events, so I wanted to check here. Thank!

Thanks Community! I solved the problem. In fact it was not a problem but lack of understanding. These guys at Apple are way ahead in thir thinking. I will try to explain as short as I can.
In Lion, ihe Prefferences/Display show only two choices: 6-7 steps of resolution and some color tab. No two screens, no two display to overlap, nothing for us to do. "That was the problem"! Everything is automatic.
When I connected the HDMI cable to the Miniport into a T-bolt slot, the TV screen showed the "spiral galaxy" how Zyriab is calling it. In fact he gave me the best clue. That shows the connection is good. But where is the Mac Book image?
You have to drag it to the right out of the Mac Book display area, and "voila!" it will continue on the TV screen. The same with the mouse pointer, push it out ofthe Mac Book display area and you see it on the TV sreen. Good image, you can keep the max resolution, etc. The sound is still on the Book's speakers. I have to figure that out.
Thank everybody, especialy Zyriab, ne was the closest.
    High regards to everybody

  • I recently bought the newest macbook pro with only 120 GB of disk space I need to upgrade and was wondering if this would work with my computer 500GB New Sata 2.5" hard drive?

I bought the newest macbook pro 13" with only 120 GB of space. I quickly used all of the space up and need a lot more. I was wondering if this disk is compatible with the model i have.
500GB New Sata 2.5" hard drive

Your best practical option is buying a 1TB external HD for $65
The "low" capacity of the SSD on the Air and entry level Retina are meant to be working platforms for these computers.
Meaning ALL your programs and your working data (stuff you use at least every week).
To try to use either the Air or  Retina as a storage platform of any king (lots of pics, music, movies etc.) is both not indicated or practical.
external storage, quality too, is absurdly cheap right now.
    You asked:
These are very expensive theres no way that an hdd drive would be compatible with my Mac?
    yes, a superslim external HD.
    see this: only 7mm thick

Or better still this HUGE HD, which is very small, very reliable and very cheap:
    2 Terabytes, 2.5" and only $119

  • How portable is the 15" Macbook Pro?

I will be a freshman at college this fall and am looking to buy a Macbook Pro.  I am stuck between the 13" and 15", both low end models.  I like the portability of the 13" however the screen feels too small to me.  However, I love the size of the 15" but I am afraid that it wont be very portable. I'm worried if I have to haul a laptop to class that the 15" will be more of a hassel than a laptop needs to be. The specs on the models do not effect my decision just for the record (I will only be doing basic stuff such as writing papers, searching the web, listening to music...). Fortunately I have saved up a good amount of money the past few years so money will not be an issue in this decision.  If the 15" is a solid portable computer then I will most likely lean that direction.
    2 Questions:
       1. For any past or present college students out there, how often did you take your laptop to class? Or did you find it easier to take notes with pen/paper?
        2. Obviously the 13" will be more portable, but is it that big of a difference between the 13" and 15" in portability? (my initial Q: "How portable is the 15" Macbook Pro?")
    Thanks for the help!

This is exactly how I use my MacBook Pro. 90% of the time it's on my desk and then the other 10% it's out with me. I carry it around in my backpack and it isn't an issue. It is a bit weighty, certainly more so than the 13" but it's nothing that makes it impossibly portable. If you want to really know, I would suggest going to an Apple Store or a computer shop near you that stocks these machines, then you can handle them yourself and be able to feel their weight and see which is best for you. If you plan to watch a lot of films then the 15" is better because of its larger screen size, but my friend has the 13" and it really isn't bad to use. At the end of the day it's down to your needs and what you like the most; I prefer the 15" and its power suited my needs more than the 13", but the 13" is also a good machine.
Don't forget, if you buy the 13" and you don't like it, you can always return it to Apple and they'll give you your money back, providing it's not damaged, but they will charge you a restocking fee, but you can use the money you get back and put it towards buying a 15" if you decided you wanted that one instead.

when you have the same issue after the SMC reset:
put new batteries in the MM (even if the others are not empty), turn Bluetooth off then on again on the MBA, take all USB connections out (if any), delete the pairing of the MM and re pair the MM.

  • How well does the 2013 MacBook Air 13" Handle Adobe Creative Cloud Program's?

How Well Does The 13" MacBook Air Handle The Adobe Creative Cloud Apps?
I'm A Visual Communication Student But I Would Like Extremely Portable Setup Hence The MacBook Air 13", The Main Program's I Use Are:
    Photoshop
    InDesign
    Illustrator
And I Also Use Dreamweaver & After Effects From Time To Time.....
How Would A Top Spec 2013 13" Air Cope Running These Program's??

What about the backpack? Did you have it in one often?
College and notebooks = backpacks usually 9 times out of 10,  was that the case?
Your MacBook Air doesnt like roommates in your backpack
Many collects students or people in general are fond of using non-idealized backpacks (without a padded laptop compartment) along with their books. Sandwiching books around your notebook etc. is an extremely bad idea and can leads to your LCD screen being destroyed when heavy textbooks are pressing against same, or when dropping your backpack, these books slam into your Macbook causing great potential for damage.
~"large white blotch and pixilated lines running down the screen."
    That indicates a significant impact.
~~"They kept telling me it was "excess pressure". I told them it was impossible, it would be normal pressure"
What do you mean by "normal pressure"   ANY pressure to the LCD is abnormal pressure.

  • Can the newest macbooks run 10.5.8??

as the newest macbooks ship with snowleopard - can 10.5 be installed ok? have done this to one of our machines and there are no audio options available in the input/output of the system preferences which makes me think it's a driver problem. have tried a few things suggested on the forum when people have this and even tried using pacifst to export what i thought is the kext audio file and installing using a kext app... anyone have any ideas?

Well, I take that back...there is a potential workaround. You can try and apply your 10.5.8 image to the new computer. It may work. It may not. It may fully work. It may have some oddities.
I did this once when 10.5 laptops came out and we needed 10.4. I applied the 10.4 image to the new Mac, and while it did boot and seemed to work fine, you couldn't adjust...via the keyboard...display brightness, volume and a few other minor things. Also, the fans seemed to run faster/louder than normal.
give it a whirl. Your mileage may vary.
