How save is dmcrypt? / ...invalid argument [solved]

Greetings,
i plan to crypt all my partitions with dmcrypt.
my question would be: how save is it?
is it a big efford to encode a crypted partition if you dont have the paraphrase?
EDIT:
great...i just tried to make an crypted partition with:
cryptsetup -y create daten2 /discs/disc1/part1
but i get an:
Command failed: invalid argument
if i try the same in verbose mode, the error is this:
Command failed: device-mapper ioctl cmd 9 failed: Invalied Argument
would be pleased if someone could help me out in some way.

Greetings,
sorry, but i solved the problem by myself :-D
the failure was, that the disk i tried, had still a partition.
after i deleted that one, everything worked.

    I'm relatively new to using docker. When I had initially set it up (weeks ago) I was able to pull and manipulate containers. Today I came back to my docker project and now I can't even successfully pull an image.

    (snipping several dozen lines of stack trace in the middle there)
    The search results for various permutations of "docker error mount invalid argument dm" are badly washed out so I wasn't able to find any helpful leads; nor was I able to find anything relevant in the docker issue list. I tried re-installing docker (by running pacman -Rns docker and then pacman -S docker hoping that it was a config setting I could nuke & pave but this had no effect. I then ran the following:
    $ dmsetup ls
    docker-8:98-380441-pool (254:0)
    followed by dmsetup remove docker-8:98-380441-pool and attempted the pull again. No difference.
    I'm convinced this is not a docker bug but a misconfiguration of my system, but the error provided ("error mounting .... invalid argument") is rather opaque and I'm stuck with what to try next.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Well, rm -rf /var/lib/docker did it!
    I was unable to remove /var/lib/docker/devicemapper ("device or resource busy") but that doesn't seem to matter - as you suggest docker reconfigured itself. Thanks for the tip!

  • [SOLVED] sudo: unable to set runas group vector: Invalid argument

    I recently made the (idiotic) mistake of overwriting my /etc/passwd and /etc/group files, although I managed to restore them from a backup.  Since restarting the machine I'm having the same issue every time I invoke sudo:
    sudo: unable to set runas group vector: Invalid argument
    I can't find any info on this error. Any ideas on where to start?
    Thanks,
    -- C. M.
    EDIT: I should also note that this is a headless machine that I'm accessing via SSH.

    Thanks for the reply, Amish.
    It's my understanding that the 'group vector' is a term that refers to the specific set of groups to which a user has membership, rather than a specific group named 'vector'.  Although, I could be mistaken.
    From the sudo manpage:
    The -P (preserve group vector) option causes sudo to preserve the user's group vector unaltered. By default, sudo will initialize the group vector to the list of groups the target user is in. The real and effective group IDs, however, are still set to match the target user.
    Similarly, from the sudoers manpage:
    By default, sudo will initialize the group vector to the list of groups the target user is in. When preserve_groups is set, the user's existing group vector is left unaltered. The real and effective group IDs, however, are still set to match the target user. This flag is off by default.
    But the manpages don't offer me much, I'm still clueless as to why I'm getting the error.
    EDIT: although using the -P flag seems to allow sudo to run without error

    Hi,
    My system is windows 7 x64 with all version of visual c++ ( 2005 - 2012 ), .net framework 3.5.1 and 4.5 installed and all windows update.
    And when I run Live Update 6.0.006, I got this message - An Invalid argument was encountered.
    How can I solve this problem ?

    I need to download the last version of firmware 015.022.001.000 for MSI HD7870 Hawk, because for now I have problems with windows restarting (BSOD ) or freezing when I play an 3D game ( eg: World of Warcraft, Firefall, WarThunder).
    And like I said I have all drivers  and windows update Up to date.

  • Invalid Argument Exception on Java API's DB Close

    When closing the database via the Java API's close method, I am getting an invalid argument exception... how can this be fixed... subsequent access to the DB causes the JVM to crash??

    I had the same problem. I could fix it by carefully calling the delete() function on all those DBXML Xml..xyz objects that you create when you perform queries etc. It seems that those Java objects have some 'shadow' object in the underlying DLL and by calling delete() you free resources that remain otherwise assigned (maybe somebody with a C++ background who programmed this stuff?). Call delete() before the Java object gets out of scope. For instance:
    results = mgr.query(collection,context,null);
    XmlValue value;
    try {
    while ((value = results.next()) != null) {
    XmlValue c = value.getFirstChild();
    String ref = c.getNodeValue();
    c.delete(); c = null;
    value.delete(); value = null;
    catch (Exception e) {
    finally {
    if (results != null) {
    results.delete();
    results = null;
    Once i did this on all possible dbxml objects i used in my code, the java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Invalid argument disappeared.

  • Invalid arguments error while executing oracle procedure

    Dear all,
    we have a table hr_emp with fields ecode, ename, edoj.
    the following procedure we created to return the table data to our .net app.
    CREATE OR REPLACE
    PACKAGE pname AS
    TYPE T_hr_cursor IS REF CURSOR;
    PROCEDURE get_hr_list (P_hrlist OUT T_hr_cursor);
    END HRPACK;
    create or replace PACKAGE BODY pname AS
         PROCEDURE get_hr_list (P_hrlist OUT T_hr_cursor)
         IS
         BEGIN
         OPEN P_hrlist FOR
              SELECT *
                   FROM Hr_Emp WHERE edoj>='01-jan-2009';
         END get_hr_list;
    END;
    these code edited in a single file [both package and package body] and created successfully.
    but, while executing, by typing execute get_hr_list, ORA-00304 error, invalid arguments, is coming. How to resolve this, please help.
    also, in sql developer 1.5.3, when we create this, another error is ciming like 'source doesnot have a runnable target'.
    Where is the issue? please help

    Yes, its great dear...
    sqlplus>
    declare
    hr_cursor hrmain.t_hr_cursor;
    begin
    pname.get_hr_list(hr_cursor);
    end;
    Its worked as i got 'pl/sql procedure successfully executed'.
    Also, then how i can call this get_hr_list procedure from .net? im using c# and i want to get the result of hr_emp to c#. how i can call the same from c#? any help please

  • Couldn't export schema because of invalid argument value and other errors.

    Hello, All.
    I am using an oracle 10g database, which is running on a Redhat9 linux server, to manage our lab information.
    I plan to export a schema (only tables, not the real data) into a file.
    First, I used the Enterprise Manager to export. I went through and complete the export job. After submitting, the system says:
    There is a problem writing to the export files: ORA-39094: Parallel execution not supported in this database edition..
    So I just copy the PL/SQL code which would be send to the source database and comment the set_parallel procedure.
    The code is listed here:
    declare
    h1 NUMBER;
    begin
    begin
    h1 := dbms_datapump.open (operation => 'EXPORT', job_mode => 'SCHEMA', job_name => 'EXPORT000468', version => 'COMPATIBLE');
    end;
    --begin
    --dbms_datapump.set_parallel(handle => h1, degree => 1);
    --end;
    begin
    dbms_datapump.add_file(handle => h1, filename => 'EXPDAT.LOG', directory => 'DATA_FILE_DIR', filetype => 3);
    end;
    begin
    dbms_datapump.set_parameter(handle => h1, name => 'KEEP_MASTER', value => 0);
    end;
    begin
    dbms_datapump.metadata_filter(handle => h1, name => 'SCHEMA_EXPR', value => 'IN(''FLOWLIMS'')');
    end;
    begin
    dbms_datapump.set_parameter(handle => h1, name => 'ESTIMATE', value => 'BLOCKS');
    end;
    begin
    dbms_datapump.add_file(handle => h1, filename => 'EXPDAT%U.DMP', directory => 'DATA_FILE_DIR', filetype => 1);
    end;
    begin
    dbms_datapump.set_parameter(handle => h1, name => 'INCLUDE_METADATA', value => 1);
    end;
    begin
    dbms_datapump.data_filter(handle => h1, name => 'INCLUDE_ROWS', value => 0);
    end;
    begin
    dbms_datapump.set_parameter(handle => h1, name => 'DATA_ACCESS_METHOD', value => 'AUTOMATIC');
    end;
    begin
    dbms_datapump.start_job(handle => h1, skip_current => 0, abort_step => 0);
    end;
    begin
    dbms_datapump.detach(handle => h1);
    end;
    end;
    I paste the code in an SQL*Plus session and execute it. The system says:
    declare
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-39001: invalid argument value
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_SYS_ERROR", line 79
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_DATAPUMP", line 2486
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_DATAPUMP", line 2718
    ORA-06512: at line 23
    I am not very sure which part is wrong for I have exported another schema successfully using this method just now.
    Any advice is highly appreciated!
    Qian

    Well, I will list more details about how to complete the job here.
    1) Go to the Enterprise Manager, log in as FLOWLIMS (I just want to export the schema FLOWLIMS)
    2)Go to the "Maitenance"
    3)Under the "Utilities", select the "Export to files"
    4)in the next page: Export: Export Type, select "Schemas"
    5) in the next page, select the schema "FLOWLIMS"
    6) in the next page, select these parameters:
    Maximam Number of Threads in Export job: 1
    Estimate Disk Space: Blockes
    7) when I click the "Estimate Disk Space Now", it says :
    Export Estimate Failed
    There is a problem writing to the export files: ORA-39094: Parallel execution not supported in this database edition..
    8) So I give up extimating
    9) Other options:
    I select "Generate Log file"
    The Directory Object is the default value "DATA_FILE_DIR"
    The Log File is the default value "EXPDAT.LOG"
    10) the advanced options are like these:
    Content: What to export from the Source Database: "Metadata only"
    Export content: "include all objects"
    Flashback: select "As the specified System Change Number (SCN)
    SCN: just accept the default number 28901412
    Query: select nothing. I need all fields of all tables.
    11) in the next page, I accept the default directory object "DATA_FILE_DIR" and the default File Name "EXPDAT%U.DMP". The Maximam File Size is blank, I just leave it blank.
    12) in the next page "Schedule" , I select to start the job immediatly.
    13) in the next page "Review", it shows:
    Export Type          Schemas
    Statistics type          Estimate optimizer statistics when data is imported
    Parallelism          1
    Files to Export          DATA_FILE_DIR EXPDAT%U.DMP
    Log File          DATA_FILE_DIR EXPDAT.LOG
    and the PL/SQL is like that:
    declare
    h1 NUMBER;
    begin
    begin
    h1 := dbms_datapump.open (operation => 'EXPORT', job_mode => 'SCHEMA', job_name => 'EXPORT000487', version => 'COMPATIBLE');
    end;
    begin
    dbms_datapump.set_parallel(handle => h1, degree => 1);
    end;
    begin
    dbms_datapump.add_file(handle => h1, filename => 'EXPDAT.LOG', directory => 'DATA_FILE_DIR', filetype => 3);
    end;
    begin
    dbms_datapump.set_parameter(handle => h1, name => 'KEEP_MASTER', value => 0);
    end;
    begin
    dbms_datapump.metadata_filter(handle => h1, name => 'SCHEMA_EXPR', value => 'IN(''FLOWLIMS'')');
    end;
    begin
    dbms_datapump.set_parameter(handle => h1, name => 'ESTIMATE', value => 'BLOCKS');
    end;
    begin
    dbms_datapump.add_file(handle => h1, filename => 'EXPDAT%U.DMP', directory => 'DATA_FILE_DIR', filetype => 1);
    end;
    begin
    dbms_datapump.set_parameter(handle => h1, name => 'INCLUDE_METADATA', value => 1);
    end;
    begin
    dbms_datapump.data_filter(handle => h1, name => 'INCLUDE_ROWS', value => 0);
    end;
    begin
    dbms_datapump.set_parameter(handle => h1, name => 'DATA_ACCESS_METHOD', value => 'AUTOMATIC');
    end;
    begin
    dbms_datapump.start_job(handle => h1, skip_current => 0, abort_step => 0);
    end;
    begin
    dbms_datapump.detach(handle => h1);
    end;
    end;
    14) after I click the "submit" , it shows:
    Export Submit Failed
    There is a problem writing to the export files: ORA-39094: Parallel execution not supported in this database edition..
    15) I copy the PL/SQL, comment this part:
    --begin
    --dbms_datapump.set_parallel(handle => h1, degree => 1);
    --end;
    I run it in an iSQL*Plus Release 10.1.0.2,
    It shows:
    declare
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-39001: invalid argument value

    You can look through Apple's support article that addresses this issue.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1368
    This "fix" was working for some users recently.
    Go to Settings>General>Date and Time>Set Automatically>Off. Set the date one year ahead. Try to update the apps again. If you get an error message, go back to the settings. Correct the date and time (set automatically) then go back and try to update the apps again.

    After that I change a code little bit:
    clob = oracle.sql.CLOB.createTemporary(c, true, 1);
    Ant it pass through, but it fails with CastException. Then I upgraded JDBC driver, because I'm using Java 1.4
    So, now I have this kind of error:

    It fails when I'm creating temporaryClob:
    clob = oracle.sql.CLOB.createTemporary(c, true, 1);
    The problem occurs, because my connection driver is:
    com.evermind.sql.OrclCMTConnection and it can't be converted into oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleConnection.
    It is datasource config:
    <data-source location="jdbc/oooDS"
         class="com.evermind.sql.DriverManagerDataSource"
         password="iate"
         xa-location="jdbc/xa/oooXADS"

         username="ooo"

         inactivity-timeout="30"
         name="oooDS"
         ejb-location="jdbc/oooDS"
         pooled-location="jdbc/oooPoolDS"
         min-connections="3"
         max-connections="200"/>
    Could you advise, how can I convert my Connection class?

  • Failed to retrieve data from the database/invalid argument provided when employing link between two web services datasources

    Post Author: vpost
    CA Forum: Data Connectivity and SQL
    I am trying to join information from two related web services within CR XI. I have successfully set up the web services as data sources have been able to get to the point where I get good data back. However, when I try to pull in certain fields, I get an error that says "Failed to retrieve data from the database/invalid argument provided". Here's the scenario:
    The web services are structured as follows:Web Service 1 (Artist) has attributes of Artist Name and Date of Birth.Web Service 2 (CD) has attributes of CD Title and Release Date. Underneath each CD are songs, each of which have a Song Title and Artist Name.
    I have defined both web services and defined a link between Artist.Artist Name and CD/Song.Artist Name. I am able to run a report with Song Title and Date of Birth that crosses web services. I am able to run another report with Song Title and CD Title that crosses the different levels in the second web service. However, if I add CD Title to the first report or Date of Birth to the second (both of which effectively force CR to employ the link between the two web services AND the CD/Song hierarchical structure in the second web service, I get the aforementioned error.
    Any assistance understanding how multiple web services can be linked in this manner would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    Not sure about your exact situation, but having similar problem with another application and have tracked down to security. Added user to group Domain Admin and it works fine. It appears to be accessing a subdirectory which it does not have permission to use and then times out and returns the "invalid....". Seems that once the query just over a certain size (and I'm not sure what triggers this) it needs to make use of temparory file disk, intead of ram.
    I'm still trying to track down which temporary it's trying to uses - so if you have any ques.
    cheers

  • How can a question marked as "solved" be restored to unsolved status?

    How do you remove the “This solved my question” status icon if the answer turns out to be wrong?
    Variations of this question can be found in a few discussion threads in the Apple Support Community. I found one very similar question marked as “This solved my question.” Unfortunately the answer was, “It can't be changed.” I have reasons for trying to, at least, get a more definitive answer.
    A primary purpose of these discussions is to resolve issues. It is very frustrating to read through long threads that claim to have an answer, only to find that the question was mistakenly marked “solved.” I spent over an hour on a thread that was marked as resolved. The member that made the mistake wanted to remove the “solved” status--even asked for help several times. I finished the thread just in case either issue was resolved. No, neither issue was resolved.
    May someone, Apple if necessary, explain how to revert the “solved” status or help fix the problem? If it is a known issue with no workaround, it would be very helpful to have an explanation. Accordingly, are there plans to fix this problem, and a rough idea when? This could be a “This solved my question” hallmark worth celebrating!
    Caution: This discussion or parts of it may be revised or deleted while I attempt to find a solution or workaround. Once I've given up or the issue is resolved, I will indicate so, even if it requires a repost. Relevant contributions will be indicated either way.

    leonieDF and  seventy one pointed out, (paraphrasing) all posts can be helpful in some way, even if the original owner of the discussion didn't get their question resolved.
    Maybe if I keep using this tool I'll change my mind, but most of the time I'd rather save time getting something solved than not.
    If anyone believes there are legitimate reasons owners and participants of a discussion would benefit from the ability of the owner to reset the solved status, you're welcome to chime in.
    These excerpts from my original post express why I think a change is needed:
    Stiltskin!: “The member that made the mistake wanted to remove the “solved” status--even asked for help several times. I finished the thread just in case either issue was resolved. No, neither issue was resolved.”
    Stiltskin!: “I didn't find any entry in that thread with an answer to revert the icon. So I got the idea it wasn't common knowledge because so many posters asked the owner to fix it even though the owner kept asking how to do it.”
    A big part of why I started this discussion is because I noticed others (and myself) expressed interest in this feature (owner ability to reset a discussion's solved status). If anyone want's to respond to that, please do.
    Nobody's brought it up but my discussion's header question doesn't express what I'm talking about now. I would change it if I could. I'd encourage future contributors (if any) to read through the explanation of my question in the first post to understand my perspective beyond "How can a question marked as 'solved' be restored to unsolved status?"
    Thank you all for your input!

    I'm running JDeveloper 12.x using WLS 12.1.1.0.0. The server starts fine, but when I launch the WLS console, the web browser appears (deploying WLS console...) then goes blank. The WLS console has repeated this exception:

    I'm running Mac OS 10.6.7 in 64-bit mode.
    There is no additional stack trace information in the server or the default domain log.
    Is there any way around this? Can I edit something in config.xml or startWebLogic.sh as a workaround?

    Some notes concerning running WebLogic on Max OS are presented, maybe they help - http://blogs.oracle.com/wahmed/entry/installing_weblogics_10_3_1
    Looking at the error "java.io.IOException: unexpected exception in poll: (22) Invalid argument at weblogic.socket.PosixSocketMuxer.poll(Native Method)"
    which is related to the socket muxer. By default, a native socket muxer is used - could be this is not working on MAC.
    What you can try to do is enable the Java based muxer, by editing the config.xml, for example,
    <server>
        <name>AdminServer</name>
        <reverse-dns-allowed>false</reverse-dns-allowed>
        <native-io-enabled>false</native-io-enabled>

        <scattered-reads-enabled>false</scattered-reads-enabled>
        <listen-address></listen-address>
        <accept-backlog>300</accept-backlog>
        <login-timeout-millis>5000</login-timeout-millis>
        <low-memory-time-interval>3600</low-memory-time-interval>
        <low-memory-sample-size>10</low-memory-sample-size>
        <low-memory-granularity-level>5</low-memory-granularity-level>
        <low-memory-gc-threshold>5</low-memory-gc-threshold>
    </server>The native-io-enabled element controls is the native muxer is enabled or not.
    The thread-pool-percent-socket-readers element tells how may threads from the execute queue
    are used by the muxer; the default is 33%.

  • NIO - Invalid argument (errno:22)

    We have a mutlthreaded framework that spawns many individual threads with each merging extremely large files (1-3GB) to their own [thread] seperate files. We are using Java 1.4.2.10 and running on HP-UX.
    The following is the bit of code that does our appending:
    FileInputStream fileInputStream = new FileInputStream(fileName);
    FileChannel in = fileInputStream.getChannel();
    fileChannel.transferFrom(in, fileChannel.size(), in.size());
    in.close();
    fileInputStream.close();Now the grave issue that we have is that occasionaly we get the following "Invalid argument" error being thrown without any given specific reason. This error is not necessarily reproducable every time.
    java.io.IOException: Invalid argument (errno:22)
            at sun.nio.ch.FileChannelImpl.map0(Native Method)
            at sun.nio.ch.FileChannelImpl.map(FileChannelImpl.java:876)
            at sun.nio.ch.FileChannelImpl.transferFromFileChannel(FileChannelImpl.java:535)
            at sun.nio.ch.FileChannelImpl.transferFrom(FileChannelImpl.java:598)Any insight on this error (being an existing bug, etc) would be most useful.

    Can you expand on the reason why you have chosen to
    transfer 1MB at a time? Won't this have a performance
    impact when transfering a 100MB file (we loop through
    it 100 times as opposed to once).Have a think about how long it takes to transfer a megabyte and how long it takes to execute two or three lines of loop bookkeeping code 100 times, and you will see that the 'overhead' is negligible. The loop will spend 99% of its time transferring and 1% looping. Probably the true ratio is even more extreme.
    In any case you don't have a choice but to reduce the transfer chunk considerably. It's up to you to find the optimum for your hardware, O/S, files, disk drives, etc.
    The other question that I am really interested to
    know the answer for, is why is thsi error being
    thrown?That's been explained above in replies #1 and #2. You agreed with it yourself in reply #3.
    Why do you suggest changing the copy size out of all things?Err, because that's what causes the error? As in replies #1, #2, and #3?

  • Invalid Argument Error

    I am getting above error on load of the JNLP file. When I access the URL for the JNLP, the JNLP file downloads (I can see the content using Ethereal) and WebStart does launch. So, I assume MIME type is OK and the download servlet is working, at least enough to serve up the JNLP.
    What makes this more curious is that it is a working configuration in Jetty. I can take the exact same application - drop it in Jetty, it works; drop the SAME file in Tomcat 4.1.27, it doesn't work.
    Anyone seen this?
    WS 1.2
    J2SDK 1.4.1_01 on both ends.

    The error and log information is as follows.
    Error dialog/General Tab:
    An error occurred while launching/running the application.
    Category: Invalid Argument error
    Could not load file/URL specified: C:\Documents and Settings\mjf860\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\2DQR21KT\cwms[1].jnlp
    The JNLP file does in fact NOT exist (the directory does, no JNLP files are in in it), despite the fact that I saw it go over the network to my box.

    TIA,

    I just found out by searching tomcat list that in your
    dynamic jnlp file you can set the cache-control to
    public using
    response.setHeader("Cache-Control", "public")
    This will allow Internet Explorer to cache the jnlp
    file and you won't get the exception.
    This way you can keep your jnlp file under a security
    constraint.I wasn't sure what was meant by "dynamic JNLP" or how to follow the above procedure, so I created a servlet (a JSP, actually) to implement the above workaround. It will serve JNLP files from a password-protected directory in a way that works for the Tomcat-to-Internet Explorer combination. It's posted below in case it can help anyone else.
    There are still a few things to watch out for: (1) the protection (the <auth-method> tag in your web.xml file) for the JNLP file must be BASIC--FORM will not work. (2) you will have to enter the password twice--once for the browse and again for Web Start.
    The servlet itself is enclosed below. If you have questions about it, please post them to this forum.
