How to access oracle with any unix user (like root)?

I installed Oracle 10g on Redhat Enterprise Linux 3.
I created one oracle user, and installed oracle in oracle users home directory. In oracle user I can access oracle very well. But I can not use oracle with other unix users like root. What kind of permissions I need to set to do so?

You should never try to connect to Oracle as root, but if you want to connect as any other OS user, you will need to run ChangePerm.sh in $ORACLE_HOME/install in order to do this. It may not be present until you upgrade above the base release (like 10.2.0.3).

  • How to access Oracle database using UNIX?

    Hi,
Does anyone know how to access Oracle database Oracle 8i that is hosted on unix server via unix command line?
    Thanks,
    Willy

Well, Oracle probably has a command line tool. I think it's called sqlplus or somesuch. Check you Oracle docs.
Of course, given that this is a Java forum, it's remotely possible that you're actually asking about accessing the database from a Java program.

    Hi Alex,
the host and port depends on your network setup of your VM.
Do an ifconfig -a and see what IP adress your guest has.
With this IP address you should be able to access EM from outside your VM (but on the VM host, not from outside the network) with the same port.

    Hi,
If you mean how to access eBusiness Suite from within the Virtual Machine, then you just navigate to the same URL you normally would. You may need to put the machine alias in your hosts file if you are referencing it via machine name rather than IP address.
If you mean that you want to load the form in forms builder (for example) then you need to FTP the form from server to client (as you normally would) and then open it in your client (XP virtual machine).
If you want to use Workflow Builder (as per your original requirement) then you need to ensure that the TNSNAMES.ora file in the Workflow Builder home has an entry for your instance on Linux, and then you should be able to connect to the database directly.

  • How do I boot with a certain user in-control?

Duh.  Maybe I am suffering a lapse mentally.  But my question is my Subject, please:  "How do I boot with a certain user in-control?"  I set Users as I want, then I re-start, but I use the older user, still.  So I feel perplexed, which is not good.  :-(
I feel Frustrated at trying to _download_ Mavericks.  More than two-weeks I've seen:  "Your request is Temporarily unable to be processed.  Please try again later."
[On my iMac, I am trying to create a new account to use to try to get Mavericks.]  Thank you.  :-)

Well, depending on your current OS version, what you need to do is to switch user at the login screen.  On Lion, there's a switch user icon to click on.  Switch user then log in.
But I don't think that will fix not being able to download Mavericks, though I guess it's possible.  If you already have an Apple ID and account, you want to be careful about associating multiple IDs with different apps, video, music, etc. on your system.  That can result in problems, as Apple IDs can't be consolidated.

  • Is the Tiger 10.4.x can run with any new computer like 2.66Ghz or up

Is the Tiger 10.4.x can run with any new computer like 2.66Ghz or up?

    No,
Earlier Intel Macs in this CPU range came with OS X 10.5 Leopard as their basic, installed OS X version.
Later models in this range came pre-installed with either OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard or OS X 10.7 Lion or OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion.
    Sorry,

  • How to access Oracle 10g with COBOL

    Hi there,
I didn't find anywhere better to post this, so I'm sorry if this is the wrong place.
I'm having major problems trying to find out how to access an Oracle 10g database with COBOL because I have no directions. I've never programmed anything that access a database before, and my first time must be in COBOL (wich is a language I started learning yesterday)
My teacher (who is not a nice person) gave us no directions at all, and when we ask her for it she is rude
"Do you know something called library? Or maybe, Google?"
So I am here, desparate, asking for anyone's help, for any diirections.. like
    -How to access?
-Wich COBOL compiler to use? (free)
-Do I access the database with commands in COBOL? wich commands?
-Any tutorial around the web about this?
I have to deliver the full project in a month.. lol
    Oh well...
    thanks in advance!
    Oscar

I do understand if she want us to be resourceful, but yes, she was tottaly irresponsible with us... but what is done is done.
Thanks alot for the information APC
I gave a quick look on the documentation you gave me and it is perfect, I now know how to connect to the database and somewaht use the commands.
But I looked for 2 more things and didn't find it, I'm sorry if I missed there
    1) Do I need to instal anything? Something like a Pro*COBOL installer? I'm using Fujitso COBOL compiler, do I need to use other?
    2) I looked at the commands on how to connect to the database but I don't understand something (again, sorry if I missed something)
    LOGON.
    MOVE "SCOTT" TO USERNAME-ARR.
    MOVE 5 TO USERNAME-LEN.
    MOVE "TIGER" TO PASSWD-ARR.
    MOVE 5 TO PASSWD-LEN.
    EXEC SQL
    CONNECT :USERNAME IDENTIFIED BY :PASSWD
    END-EXEC.
    DISPLAY " ".
DISPLAY "CONNECTED TO ORACLE AS USER: ", USERNAME-ARR.
How does the CONNECT command know where to connect? I mean.. where do I put the adress of my Oracle Database?
That's all I could think about with this quick look, when I start implementing I will read the guide with all my attention.
    Thanks again for the help

  • How to connect oracle with ms access database

    Dear
We are on release r12, right now we have requirement to connect oracle database with ms access to get some information. We have found gateway(Heterogeneous services) using ODBC, but at the database side where is installed oracle r12 there is no installed ms access software becuse of linux operating system, so how could it will connect ms access because without installing ms-access we are unable to find ms ODBC gateway in ODBC driver under the control panel.
Can any body guide me how could achieve this
    Edited by: oracle0282 on Sep 21, 2011 12:47 AM

If I understand you correctly you want to access Oracle on Linux from MS-Access (possible on Windows only). You need neither a gateway nor Heterogeneous Services, but an Oracle client including ODBC driver (Instant client with ODBC driver is enough) on the Windows machine.
Configure the ODBC driver with the connect informations to the Oracle server.

  • How to access Oracle database with perl ?

    Hi Anyone/Everyone,
This may not be the best place to post this, but I don't know where else to get help.
Basically I have some sql I need to run on an Oracle db on Unix, but I need to run it from NT.
There are a number of perl modules that I think may of use, ie. DBI, DBD::Oracle, etc.
but I don't know how to use them.
Can someone show me what to, please ? Examples would be good.
I have very little experience with this, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
See this link at otn.technet.oracle.com It has several perl scripts which interact with the Oracle Database.
    Hope this helps,

  • How to access Oracle Apps from Linux or Unix Client

I want to access Oracle Apps 11i from a linux client or Unix client, but I don't have jinit for linux or Unix
    regards,
    Jonathan

    Hi,
That is not a problem just you can get in to linux inet browser and put the hostname.domainname.com:portnumber/OA_HTML/US/ICSINDEX.HTM
So that you can get the apps sign on screen will be launched up and available to access in to Oracle applications.
The work could be done in solaris browser and linux browser is possible.
