How to append strings

Hi,
I am trying to append three strings, My middle string will vary upon condition.
start+middle+end, if middle is "not" I need string to be empty, I tried with ? operator but it is not working. Can you please suggest a simple method and other than using if operator.
Regards,
Basil Abraham

The moment one puts a constraint on such as "other than using if operator" a post starts to look like homework. Since a student's homework should be done by the student one should not provide code. You say you have tried the ternary operator '?' but "it is not working" so you must have done it wrongly. Why not post the code that does not work for the forum members to comment on? You might want to give a an example or two of what a correctly operating program should do.

  • Loop through Timer is ok, but then, how to append string?

    Hi,
    reading thorugh this forum, I was able to create a loop cycle via a timer (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/a1d160ba-a7d6-4c5c-aa2a-f724990a3b11/add-repeating-entry-to-collection?forum=projectsiena).
    Now, I would be ready to collect info of a cell, based on an index of the row (or, better, the ID value, which is incremental) of a collection.
    But, how can I append the pulled strings into one final string? So, even if there is the workaround for the loop cycle, how can it be used, other than populate another collection?
    Thanks!

  • How to append the User Agent String in IE11

    We use "Internet Explorer maintenance" GPO to append the standard User Agent String for IE9 with "ADFSIntAuth". "Internet Explorer maintenance" is deprecated and will not work anymore for IE11 and later.
    Now we want to move to IE11 and I can't find a solution to append the User Agent String. With GPO this isn't possible anymore (Why Microsoft?). And the registry keys I've tested won't do the job. I've tested
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\5.0\User Agent\Post Platform
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\User Agent
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\5.0\User Agent\Post Platform
    So whats is the best way to append the user agent string for IE11?
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/cdc999aa-faec-4aa5-9025-f12a524794f0/ie10-user-agent-string?forum=winserverGP didn't help.

    Thank you for the Reply Roger.
    I have already read the website you are referring to, but it doesn't say how to append the User Agent String.
    Only this:
    "Earlier versions of the browser included
    Pre-Platform and Post-platform registry value tokens in the user-agent string. However, this led to
    performance issues for customers of certain tools and add-ons. As a result, these tokens are now reported only through the
    navigator.userAgent property"
    With a dead link to the article "navigator.userAgent", but with a search I came to this article: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ie/ms534712(v=vs.85).aspx But also this article won't say how to append the User Agent String for all
    clients in a corporate environment.

         g.pane.setText(buf.toString());
         } catch (Exception e) {

    I know that this method is not smart and doesn't look good, but it works.
    If you know how to append html using HTMLEditorKit and HTMLDocument please write some example.

  • Ref Cursor - How to append records into ref cursor?

    Hi,
    Is it possible to append ref cursor?
    Iam having a procedure which accepts 1 string as input
    parameter. That string will have list of ID delimited by comma.
    I want to extract & match every ID with some tables.
    My problem is for first ID i would get 10 records
    and for 2nd ID i 'l get other 20 records. But while returning
    i need to send the same(10 + 20 records) as ref cursor(OUT parameter).
    But in below given code i could send only last 20 records. first
    10 records are not append/updated into ref cursor.
    How to append 2nd 20 records with 1st 10 records? so that i can
    send all the 30 records.
    Here goes my code...
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE getCRMGroupsAndRollups_PRC

  • How to export string in CDATA with the jaxb xml writer?

    How to export string in CDATA with the jaxb xml writer?
    It read CDATA no problem but it is lost on write.

    Found it:
    ### THIS WORKS WITH SUN JAXB REFERENCE IMPLEMENTATION. ###
    (Not tested with any other)
    In the xsd, you must create a type for your string-like element.
    Then associate a data type converter class to this new type, which will produce CDATA tags.
    Then you must set a custom characterEscapeHandler to avoid the default xml escaping in order to preserve the previously produced CDATA tag.
    Good luck.
    -----type converter-----
    import javax.xml.bind.DatatypeConverter;
    public class ExpressionConverter {
         * Convert an expression from an XML file into an internal representation. JAXB will
         * probably have already stripped off the CDATA encapsulation. As a result, this method

  • How to append to zip files

    I would like to know how to append to a zip file, I know how to write a zip file and I can put as many entries in the first time but if I run my program again and try to add a file to the same zip file it erases what was already in it. I use ZipOutputStream(new FileOutputStream), I have tried the FileOutputStream append but it does not seem to work for zip files, I have tried RandomAccessFile on my zip file but that just seems to add the bytes to the file that already in the zip file, and makes the file unopenable, corrupt. If you can help, please tell me how.

    You actually have to open the previous zipped file, read it's entries and their data and then rewrite a new zip file with these entries and their data. You can then delete your first file and rename the new one so the effect is that you have "appended" zip files to the existing archive.
    Here is an example which I pieced together from a larger bit of code that I have. This would need to be in a try/catch but this should give you a start.
    /** This method adds a new file to an existing zip file. It * includes all the zipped entries previously written.
    * @param file The old zip archive
    * @param filename The name of the file to be Added
    * @param data The data to go into the zipped file
    * NOTE: This method will write a new file and data to an archive, to
    * write an existing file, we must first read the data frm the file,
    * then you could call this method.
    public void addToArchive(File file, String filename, String data)
         ZipOutputStream zipOutput = null;
    ZipFile zipFile = null;
    Enumeration zippedFiles = null;
    ZipEntry currEntry = null;
    ZipEntry entry = null;
    zipFile = new ZipFile( file.getAbsolutePath() );
         //get an enumeration of all existing entries
    zippedFiles = zipFile.entries();
         //create your output zip file
    zipOutput = new ZipOutputStream( new FileOutputStream ( new File( "NEW" + file.getAbsolutePath() ) ) );
    //Get all the data out of the previously zipped files and write it to a new ZipEntry to go into a new file archive
    while (zippedFiles.hasMoreElements())
    //Retrieve entry of existing files
    currEntry = (ZipEntry)zippedFiles.nextElement();
    //Read data from existing file
    BufferedReader reader = new BufferedReader( new InputStreamReader( zipFile.getInputStream( currEntry ) ) );
    String currentLine = null;
    StringBuffer buffer = new StringBuffer();
    while( (currentLine = reader.readLine() ) != null )
    buffer.append( currentLine);
    //Commit the data
    zipOutput.putNextEntry(new ZipEntry(currEntry.getName()) ) ;
    zipOutput.write (buffer.toString().getBytes() );
    zipOutput.flush();
    zipOutput.closeEntry();
    //Close the old zip file
    zipFile.close();
    //Write the 'new' file to the archive, commit, and close
    entry = new ZipEntry( newFileEntryName );
    zipOutput.putNextEntry( entry );
    zipOutput.write( data.getBytes() );
    zipOutput.flush();
    zipOutput.closeEntry();
    zipOutput.close();
         //delete the old file and rename the new one
    File toBeDeleted = new File ( file.getAbsolutePath() );
    toBeDeleted.delete();
         File toBeRenamed = new File ( "NEW" + file.getAbsolutePath() );
    toBeRenamed.rename( file );
    Like I said I haven't tested this code as it is here but hopefully it can help. Good luck.

    At this point there is no next line or return key in SMS or BBM, a lot of people have asked for it. It exists on all the other apps for writing, but not on SMS and BBM.  Hopefully BB releases this simple fix for the messaging..

  • APPEND STRING TO defaultDocumentStyle.

    Hi all,
    Anyone have an idea how to append or add String to the file,?
    For e.g i have some string "Author : Xttrax".
    <code>
    protected JTextPane editorZone;
    protected StyleContext m_context;
    protected DefaultStyledDocument docStyle;
    protected RTFEditorKit m_kit;
    editorZone = new JTextPane();
    m_kit = new RTFEditorKit();
    editorZone.setEditorKit(m_kit);
    m_context = new StyleContext();
    docStyle = new DefaultStyledDocument(m_context);
    editorZone.setDocument(docStyle);
    try {
    OutputStream out = new FileOutputStream(fileRead + ".mcf");
    m_kit.write(out, docStyle, 0, docStyle.getLength());
    out.close();
    catch (Exception ex)
    ex.printStackTrace();
    </code>
    while come to the part >
    <b> m_kit.write(out, docStyle,0,docStyle.getLength()</b>
    can i do something like
    docStyle = docStyle.getText + "String";
    i want to do this because i wish to append some "Tag" to the file whenever it is "saved"..
    thanks for considering my doubts

    Try making the textarea larger and see if it still
    shows on a new line...Textarea width is very large .There are many line break sometimes all lines
    are of different length so there is no issue of word wrap .I check the output
    sometimes it gives newline when it encounter space but not always .there are also spaces in single line .Sometimes it gives new line when it encounter >
    and sometimes it continue in same line after enconter > .
    Thanks

  • Append string in BPEL

    Hello,
    I have three values coming in the XML elements like
    FirstName, LastName and ZipCode
    I want to append these 3 using inside BPEL (using BPEL way) and then at the end also append current TimeStamp.
    So final appended string will look like FirstNameLastNameZipCodeTimeStamp
    How can i go about doing this appending ? also, Do I have to create a holder element that will hold this appended string ?
    thx
    d

    Hi,
    Use Concat(), inside Assign activity, give the values like, concat(FirstName,LastName,ZipCode, currectTime), offcourse this FirstName and other values will come from XML elements which you can select in the Expression Builder
    concat(bpws:getVariableData('inputVariable','payload','/ns4:FirstName'),bpws:getVariableData('inputVariable','payload','/ns4:LastName'),bpws:getVariableData('inputVariable','payload','/ns4:ZipCodeName'),xp20:current-time())
    Next you can create a new Variable and assign this value concat() to it.

  • How to get string value from xml in JSF??

    In JSF How to get string value from xml, .ini and properties file. I want to get string value from xml or text to JSF

    Just use the appropriate API's for that. There are enough API's out which can read/parse/write XML, ini and properties files. E.g. JAXP or DOM4J for xml files, INI4J for ini files and Sun's own java.util.Properties for propertiesfiles.
    JSF supports properties files as message bundle and resource bundle so that you can use them for error messages and/or localization.

  • How to delete string or line from unix file(dataset) of application server

    Hi  All,
    After transfer workarea information or all records into dataset(unix file). When I see the file in application server automatically the last line is shown a blank line. I am not passing any blank line.
    I have tried for single record than also the file generates the last line(2nd line) also a blank line.
    When I m reading the dataset, it is not reading the last blank line but why it is showing the last blank line?
    How to delete string or line from unix file(dataset) of application server?
    Please give your comments to resolve this.
    Thanks

    Hi Rio,
    I faced similar kind of issue working with files on UNIX platform.
    The line is a line feed to remove it use
    DATA : lv_carr_linefd TYPE abap_cr_lf VALUE cl_abap_char_utilities=>cr_lf.
      DATA : lv_carr_return TYPE char1,
             lv_line_feed   TYPE char1.
      lv_line_feed   = lv_carr_linefd(1).
      lv_carr_return = lv_carr_linefd+1(1).
    Note: IMP: The character in ' ' is not space but is a special
    character set by pressing ALT and +255 simultaneosly
      REPLACE ALL OCCURRENCES OF lv_line_feed IN l_string WITH ' '.
      REPLACE ALL OCCURRENCES OF lv_carr_return IN l_string WITH ' '.
