How to apply "scale to frame size" to a bunch of stills in CS4 and most likely all PP pro.

Hello, I was looking for an answer to this procedure after trying to use the "paste attribute" function; that is ticking this option on one picture, and pasting (as attribute) it to the rest of the stills. As this did not work I finally found a Youtube video showing how simple (and embarrassing) it was. -  Just highlight all your stills on the timeline and right click anywhere on the selected area. Then click on the "scale to frame size" to put a tick against it. NB In my case though a few things happened when I tried, and one I remember was that my selection had already a still with the tick against the "resize..." (as I tried and erred various other ways) so it would not work, I guess because the program already could see the tick although it's only on one still. Most likely if I hadn't learned the "paste attribute" method I would have chosen this but here you are as an erratic user I opted for the less obvious possible method!  I hope this entry will help people who want a quick answer  to this situation. I'm a little surprised though as I thought I read somewhere that PP as "scale to frame size" as a default!

Yes that's right Bill, I think that's what the video did show and that I tried to share in "my discussion" But Ann explained to me how to turn it on as a default from Preference which is a smarter way to go about it, providing it's done before importing the pictures in the project window. Else, yes that the way to do it!
Actually it would be nice to be able to choose the size of the frame so to fit it directly into the safe area which ever is chosen, it would cut a couple of steps when animating the still, avoiding scaling into the safe area (I'm a dreamer!)

  • Is there way to "scale to frame size" a bin of clips?

I running a 1920 x 1080 doc project in Premiere Pro CC with a range of media types and sizes.  I purposely did NOT preset the "default scale to frame size" preference to maintain the quality of my still image data base to allow pans and zooms.  I have since imported, logged and sub clipped a very large number of stock archive 720 x 486 QT movies.  Having done so without presetting the Premiere default scaling, I am now having to apply "scale to frame size" to each edit in my sequence as I work.  Is there way to "scale to frame size" my bin of clips? or am I now stuck having to convert the original 720 x 486 QT movies to 1920 x 1080 and then relinking in Premiere to maintain all my sub clipping data?

what about in the bin, select the clip, go up to the top of the screen and beside File and Edit, select Clip
then go down to Video Options
and choose Scale to Frame Size
does that do what you want?

  • "Scale to Frame Size" option - won't I lose quality?

    Hello,
I have a sequence in 720p and I have most of the videos in 1080p. I want to scale all of them once, so I select them all, go to Clip->Video Options->Scale to Frame Size. But, the Scale Size shows all the time as a 100%, even after the clips are scaled down.
Question 1: Won't I lose quality if I will zoom in (but go not further than 1080p)?
Question 2: Also, I understand, that I cannot go further than 150%, right?
    Thank you.

I do not want to scale (Using Motion->Scale) each clip separately. I want to do it for all clips
Jeff has it technically right, but missed part of the question.
I believe the remaining part of the question is "How do I set every 1080 frame to 67% so I can use that as a starting point? All at once."
Answer: Set one clip to 67%. Copy that clip. Then, select all of the other clips and "Paste Attributes".  Now all of them will be set at 67% and if you decide to zoom in to 100% you will have no quality loss.
Be sure to do that before you change any other attributes of that clip. If you have, don't worry. Just turn off that effect temporarily so you can copy just the motion effect

  • Scale to Frame Size not perfect

I am working with DV and HDV.  I am scaling the HDV to frame size and it works pretty well, but there is a thin black verticle line on either side of the frame.  This vanishes when I go back to a DV clip, and reappears when I go back to a scaled HDV clip.
Any ideas on how I can remove these lines/expand the image?
    Many thanks,
    Doug

In case it's not abundantly clear from the first three posts, PPro is behaving correctly. Scale to Frame Size adjusts the size of the source so that one dimension fits within the sequence's dimensions. In the process, it maintains the source's image aspect ratio. Therefore, if the image aspect ratio of the source does not precisely match that of the sequence, then space will be left along the sides or the top and bottom.
As Ann pointed out, HDV is exactly 16:9, whereas widescreen DV is not. Hence, narrow pillarboxes.
What you seem to be expecting, at least implicitly, is for PPro to not only scale the source but also stretch it to fill the frame completely.
You have two options to eliminate the pillarboxing:
Use the Scale effect with "Uniform Scale" option enabled, in which case you'll end up effectively cropping off the top and bottom.
Disable Uniform Scale and then bump up the Scale Width, which stretches the image.

  • Can PE4's "Scale to Frame Size" scaling of stills be adjusted?

I have authored a movie with over 50 stills at the end. Some of those stills have a caption that I added by enlarging the canvas with white background in Photoshop Elements and typing in people's names. Some of the captions have 1 line, some 2 lines, and some 3 lines. All the stills are about the same size, but no matter how many lines a caption has, the bottom half of the last line is cut off from view. I tried extending the bottom of the caption area, but that made the photo smaller and the white blank area just didn't look right. Next I tried cropping off the caption area and typing the caption on the bottom part of the photo itself--but the last line still gets cut off.
If I uncheck "Scale to Frame Size", the photo is huge. How can I overide PE4's default scaling so that the photos with bottom captions are small enough for the captions to fit within the Safe Title Margin instead of being cut off? The stills are digital photos 3264 pixels wide with heights varying for 2448 to 2992 pixels. My preset is widescreen 16:9.
    Thanks for your help.

Sorry I couldn't respond sooner, the site kept saying try again later--then
after reading over your helpful article several times, I kept digging and
experimenting and was able to produce exactly what I wanted! So, at least
you didn't have to read the earlier reply I had composed with several more
    questions.
Since I shot the video clips in widescreen mode, I batch re-sized all the
non-captioned photos to 720 X 480. That sure shortened the loading time of
Premiere! For the ones with captions, I decided the extra text at the bottom
of the photos would make the photos smaller on screen than I wanted. I used
PSE to type text on the photo itself, saved the layers, then re-sized it by
resampling to 432 (480 height X 90%). I found out how to change the ruler in
Premiere Elements from inches to pixels. I adjusted the text layer so that
the bottom line would not below the Safe Title Margin of 384 (480 X
80%)--but when put on the timeline, there was still plenty of room before
the text was cut off, so I re-positioned the text to about 395. Of course I
had to select all the stills on the timeline and uncheck the option to scale
to frame size. Now that I understand how scaling works, I can get any size
    photo to fit just right!
I had struggled with how to get captions to display for a couple of years,
so I appreciate so much your pointing me in the right direction with your
    response and helpful article!

  • How to change the picture frame size in Lightroom 5 Book

I would like to control the actual picture frame size when making a Book in Lightroom 5. Or else know the sizes of the different picture frames provided by choosing the different page layouts. That way I can either change the picture frame dimensions to accomodate each photo or change the image size to fit in the offered picture frame. I find that using the software as is winds up cropping the images in unwanted ways. Modifying the picture frame would be my preferred alternative. Appreciate any ideas

    Hi again Tony,
I have been using Adobe Photoshop 7, Photoshop Elements, Perfect Photo Suite, Photo Studio, etc., changing Image size, placing a picture on a page and then, do a simple last minute size adjustment by using the arrows to stretch or shrink it in place. Things would be a lot simpler if I could do the same thing with the cells in Lightroom 5. Cell pad adjustments do not fill the bill.
I think we’ve pretty much concluded this exchange. Thanks again for your effort.

  • Scale To Frame Size Issues with PE8

I just got a new Sony HDR-XR500V camcorder.  When I render videos from PE8 (using source videos from this new camcorder) to either wmv or mpeg format, I run into one of two situations.  If I check "Scale to Frame Size", then I end up video that video that has a large border around it (on all four sides) - meaning it only takes up a portion of the media player screen.  If I uncheck "Scale to Frame Size" then I end up with video that is severely cropped on all four sizes - so I am missing much of the picture (but it at least takes up the entire medai player screen).  Is there some other setting where I can get it to fill the entire space but not crop the video?

As Steve points out, one's Project Preset must match the source footage (Video & Audio) perfectly, or one will encounter problems.
Once that is done, and editing is complete, then you can Export/Share to desired formats/CODEC's, with desired Frame Size.
    Good luck,

  • Scale to frame size: clip lose quality

    Hi
    I'm working with Premiere CS3.
    I captured a clip from a Sony HVR-Z1E over IEEE1394 in a HDV Project. Settings: HDV 1080i, 25.00 Frames/Second, HD Anamorphic 1080 (1,333), upper field first.
Afterwards I import the clip in a DV Project. Settings DV PAL, 25.00 Frames/Second,D1/DV PAL Widescreen 16:9 (1, 422), upper field first.
In the timeline, I scale down the clip manually (under effectsettings/ move/scale)the clip to 53.3%. The clip lose quality. Pixels seems to be bigger. The same also happens if I check "scale to frame size".
Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance.
    Regards, Corinne

    Hi
Thanks for your reply. Yes that's right. But in CS2 the lose of quality was much smaller then in CS3. The clip was after scaling to 53.3% still useful. That can't be the problem.
I thought thath SD DV is upper field?
    regards, Corinne

  • Defaulting scale to frame size

I'm stuck.  I am about to pull in a whole bunch of still images into my timeline. I know I need to go to - edit-preference-general-check the "default scale to frame size". Here is where I am lost.  I need to fing the back leash key.. I can't remember where this is

We did is this way because it's the only way for us to easily reproduce that feature in AE.
Since AE doesn't support it natively, we need to emulate it. We emulate it by sticking the footage in a precomp of the 'frame size' and set the scale on the footage on that layer to make it work. One could argue that if the scale is 100% we should optimize this and just leave out the precomp, but as you can see we didn't think of that at the time.
Is that the situation you are in?

  • Scale to frame size by width or height?

I've noticed that this feature scales clips with orginal aspect ratio until the width or the height first meets the frame size.
However, is there anyway to dictate that? Say I have a 720p sequence and I have a 1270x780 clip for instance.
And I want the width to be filled up entirely dispite having to cut some of the pixels off height-wise.

Use the 'Motion Effect - Scale' instead of 'Scale to Frame Size'.
Motion: position, scale, and rotate a clip
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/premierepro/cs/using/WSC7A162B6-6EF1-49e1-8622-8127366710BB.ht ml#WS0FACF67F-4C70-484f-BAA3-71B6A19DCA77
You can then copy and paste the 'Motion Effect - Scale' effect
to additional clips in the Timeline to match the scale to similar clips.

  • How can i control what images load on my project to save preload time and avoid loading all images, elements, divs not yet visible?

    Sup buddies,
How can I control what images load on my project to save preload time and avoid loading all images, elements, divs not yet visible?
As the project grows in size the load time increases. How does one control not loading all images ,divs, elements etc. until they're
needed on the timeline? For example some sections are off and only become visible when recalled. My projects slowly grow in size so loading
all images , is counter productive . My other option would be to create separate htmls but that breaks the seamless user experience .

quote: "Is there an easy way to burn a completed project to DVD, but keep only the (lo res, lo size) previews on my hard drive?"
    yes.
    maybe,...
    1. you might think of making DVD backups first prior to importing the photos into Aperture. "Store Files: In their current location" once in Aperture make low rez Previews, and export finished Project.
    or,
    2. bring in the photographs to hard drive first prior to importing the photos into Aperture. "Store Files: In their current location" once in Aperture make low rez Previews, and export finished Project.
the low rez Previews will stay in Aperture but the high quality Versions will be exported onto DVDs and gone from the hard drive (if you delete the originals).
another way would be to export small about 50-70 pixel wide high quality jpegs to a folder on your Desktop and import & keep these in Aperture Library as a reference. make metadata to show where the original Project DVDs are stored and DVD filing system used.

i have a friend who was going to sync her phone with my computer to get the new update..  how do i add her phone with out her losing everything on her phone and not getting all my info on her phone..

First, create a separate login on your computer for your friend. Do this BEFORE you do anything else. Next, make sure iTunes is up to date. Then:
    1. Disable auto sync when an iPod/iPhone is connected under Preferences>Devices in iTunes.
    2. Make sure you have one contact & one event in the supported applications(Address Book, iCal) on your computer. These entries can be fake, doesn't matter, the important point is that these programs not be empty.
    3. Connect her phone, iTunes running, do not sync at this point.
