How to avoid of application running on Oracle 10g to be copied?

I am a newbie to the security issues, so I need your help, please, where to start / what to read:
I have an application running across many customers on Oracle 10g. I have faced lately that our users
can use their daily backups to establish a totaly new database on a same / different server
and point our application to use it as well.
Is there any way to avoid it? F.e. I thought to use SELECT * FROM v$instance; to get the server instance details, and
in result with some other function to obtain, let say, local server's (WIN2003) details,
such as HD Serial Number, MAC number or so and then to check these values each time user runs the application.
Is it the correct way? What are the basics here at all?
Many thanks in advance to all!

A lot of enterprises, however, actively avoid systems which are locked down to a particular server for very legitimate reasons. If my data center dies in the middle of the night, I sure don't want to have to call your mobile phone so that you can get to a computer, log in to the office network, and get me a new key so that I can finish my emergency failover. If I've got dozens of applications, I absolutely don't want to do that with dozens of different vendors.
It sounds like your problem, though, isn't that users are installing your software on multiple computers it's that they are accessing functionality they haven't licensed. That is generally a much easier problem to solve and doesn't require you to lock anything down to a particular machine. You can create a table LICENSED_CONTENT, for example,
CREATE TABLE licensed_content (
  client_id    NUMBER,
  content_type VARCHAR2(30),
  key          RAW(128)
)In this case, KEY is, say, a hash (using the DBMS_CRYPTO or DBMS_OBFUSCATION_TOOLKIT packages if you'd like) of the client_id, content_type, and a bit of salt (i.e. a fixed string that only you know). When you sell a license to manage diamond content, you provide a script that inserts the appropriate row in the LICENSED_CONTENT table. When your application starts up, it reads the LICENSED_CONTENT table and verifies the hash before allowing users to access that type of content. This allows legitimate customers to move the software from one system to another but prevents them from accessing new functionality without a new license.

A search of MetaLink for that error turns up a number of hits, most of which a very situational specific. Exactly what are you doing when you get this error? Are you connecting over an ODBC connection? Are you getting it on a connection request? At db shutdown? During a long-running query?

  • How we create new data base in oracle 10g express edition

hello every body.. i student of B tech n new user of oracle so please help me how we creat new data base in oracle 10g express edition

Hello, Oracle XE can not create more than one instance, the other editions yes, but like other editions XE allows you to create database schemas, schemas logically grouped objects like tables, views, indexes created by a user. By creating an Oracle user is associated with a schema of the same name.
Using SYS or system accounts for creating user accounts.
    Syntax to create a user:
    create user Your_user
    IDENTIFIED BY password
    default tablespace users;
    grant connect, resources to your_user;

  • Query can run in Oracle 10g but very slow in 11g

    Hi,
We've just migrated to Oracle 11g and we noticed that some of our view are very slow (it takes seconds in 10g and takes 30 minutes in 11g), and the tables are using the local table.
Do any of you face the same issue?
    This is our query:
    SELECT
    A.wellbore
    ,a.depth center
    ,d.MD maxbc
    ,d.XDELT xbc
    ,d.YDELT ybc
    ,e.MD minac
    ,e.XDELT xac
    ,e.YDELT yac
    from
    table_A d,table_A e, table_B a
    where a.wellbore = d.WELLBORE (+)
    and a.wellbore = e.WELLBORE(+)
    and d.MD = (select max(MD) from table_A b where b.MD < a.depth and
    d.wellBORE = b.wellBORE)
    and e.md = (select min(md) from table_A c where c.MD > a.depth and
    e.wellBORE = c.wellBORE);

Thanks I will move to the correct one..
    Rafi,
Build the Indexes and it is still slow. I am querying from a view from another database, which is in 10g instances.

  • How do we find instance name in ORACLE 10g

    Hi All,
How do we find SID name in Oracle 10g
    Thanks in advance
    Pandiarajan

    Apology accepted.
But yes, of course I was harsh (not at you, actually, but at the plonker who thinks he can tell me that 'echo $something' is "not right").
Do you know how many questions could be answered here if people weren't forever debating perfectly acceptable answers? If people actually stopped to read what had been written before deciding to add their tuppence-worth? If people stopped to think, "well, that's not how I would answer it... but it's good enough".
I see so many threads here where 58 people dive in to a thread to say, 'Me too'. Another 42 will dive in to say, 'that's not right' when actually it is. And another 137 or so will usually chime in to say nothing very much except to demonstrate that they didn't understand something that was explained a lot earlier on quite clearly. Threads go on and on, when actually all that was sought originally was a simple answer to a technical issue. God knows why it happens.
I have no problem at all being asked for clarification. I have no problem at all being corrected and having someone point out that actually that parameter doesn't exist, you made a typo, that's not the command to achieve X. When I am technically wrong, I would expect nothing less. But where so much of my time gets wasted is demonstrated in this thread perfectly. I answered the question in one post. It might not have been a perfect answer. There are many different ways of coming up with the answer on Windows, for example, and yet I didn't mention the registry at all or the Control Panel/System applet for checking environment variables once. And yet, despite all of that, in answer 1 there was sufficient information to make the OP happy. But no, that's not enough to shut some people up (and I am again not referring to you at this point).
I don't know what it is. Some sense of, maybe, in a democracy my opinion is as good as yours even if it's entirely unnecessary, potentially confusing and adds absolutely nothing to the outcome? A desire on the part of some people to boost their post numbers?
Too right I'm harsh. I am results-driven. I am here because I want to help others. Not because I think my opinions deserve a hearing even though the answer was posted ages ago. When I see something that looks like the opposite of that -grandstanding, look how clever I am, my opinion counts too- yeah, it annoys me somewhat. And largely because I usually end up having to untangle the confusion caused by unnecessary "contributions" from others.

  • How to access Data Guard option in Oracle 10g OEM

    Hi All,
I have Oracle 10g ENTERPRISE EDITION on Unix envoirement. I want to setup logical standby Database through Data Guard technology. But when I brows through OEM I do not find Link for DATA GUARD????
    1) How to access Data Guard option from oracle 10g OEM.
    2) Does It come with Enterprise Edition OR I have to install it separately.
    Regards,
    Darshan

I am managing almost everything through EM Grid Control. It is easy to setup and configure.
Anyways, if you have read the documentation on
Oracle® Data Guard Concepts and Administration and setup your environment accordingly then you should not have any problems. Atleast I can assure you that your production database will not be affected by it.
Just make sure that you follow each step and read thoroughly. If you have spare machines then you can test and record your configuration before performing it on your production db. This link will provide you with the information on DataGuard.
    http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14239/concepts.htm
If you think that way then you will never be able to do any new stuff since you will always fear that something might go wrong. Go ahead pal, try it on test machines and you will know that it is not that difficult.

  • How to change redo log size in oracle 10g

    Hi Experts,
Can anybody confirm how to change redo log size in oracle 10g?
    Amit

    Dear Amit,
You can enlarge the size of existing Online Redo log files, by adding new groups with different size of files (origlog$/mirrlog$) and then carefully droping the old groups with  their associated inactive files.
Please refer SAP Note 309526 - Enlarging redo log files to perform the activity.
    Steps to perform:
STEP-1. Analyze the exisiting situation and prepare an action plan.
    A. You have to ensure that no more than one log switch per minute occurs during peak times.
It may also be necessary to increase the size of the online redo logs until they are large enough.
Too many log switches lead to too many checkpoints, which in turn lead to a high writing load in the I/O subsystem.
    Use ST04 -> Additional Functions --> Display GV$-Views
    There you can select
Gv$LOG_HISTORY --->for determing your existing LOG switching frequency.
    GV$LOG -
    > list the status(INACTIVE/CURRENT/ACTIVE) /size/sequence no. of existing online redolog files
GV$LOGFILE  --- > list the information of existing online  redolog files with their storage paths
You can document the existing situation of Online Redo Log Fiile management before going to enlarge Redo Log Files.
It will be helpful, if something goes wrong while performing activities.
    B. Based on above Situation analysis, Plan your New Redo Log Group and there Members with new optimal size.
    e.g.
Group No.         Redo Log File Locations  u201C/oracle/<SID>/u201D                  Size
                                 /origlogA                  /mirrlogA
    15                        log_g15m1.dbf         log_g15m2.dbf               100 MB
    17                        log_g17m1.dbf            log_g17m2.dbf               100 MB
                                /origlogB                    /mirrlogB
    16                       log_g16m1.dbf          log_g16m2.dbf            100 MB
    18                       log_g18m1.dbf            log_g18m2.dbf            100 MB
    Continue to next.....

How much concurrent conection is allowed in oracle 10g XE?

    Hi,
    >>How much concurrent conection is allowed in oracle 10g XE? I think that the default value on Oracle XE for the SESSIONS parameter is 40.
Then, if you will need more concurrent sessions accessing the database, you need increase this value using alter system command for this parameter.

  • How to protect an application running on IIS with OAM 11gR2

    Hello Gurus,
I have a question regarding protecting an application running on IIS with OAM 11gR2. We have an OHS server running and all the requests from the users are coming to this OHS server webgate for them to login using the SSO login page. These is all solaris. I am protecting other applications like pplsoft moduels with this OHS instance and OAM server. There is another application that I need to protect which is itself running on IIS windows machine. I need guidance as to -
1.) Do I need to install a windows version of webgate to protect this IIS based application?
2.) Or I can still protect and proxy requests from this application to current OHS instance? How can I do this?
3.) Or Do I need to proxy requests directly from IIS to OAM weblogic server?
Please advise to the earliest as this is an urgent issue.
    Thanks !!

From your description it is not clear how exactly architecture looks like
We have an OHS server running and all the requests from the users are coming to this OHS server webgate for them to login using the SSO login page.
is this OHS centralized login farm ? (Case 1)
OR is this OHS server (with webgate) acting as virtual web server hosting multiple web sites so that request to any site passes through this OHS/webgate (Case 2)
1.) Do I need to install a windows version of webgate to protect this IIS based application?
If case 1 then you need to install 10g webgate on top of IIS server to protect this application
If case 2 then you can just proxy request from OHS to IIS server. As every request passes through OHS user will be authenticated before request hits IIS
Look at Product documentation for virtual web sites : http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E27559_01/admin.1112/e27239/shared.htm#autoId12
It has steps to protect virtual web sites.
Also you need to make sure no one hits IIIS web sites directly.
    Hope this helps

  • Help! how to check the SQL run in Oracle?

    Hi all,
I have a problem. the developer said the SQL written in Java code are not the one executed in Oracle DB. that mean the query is some how manipulated by some PL/SQL so the final query run in Oracle is different. So can someone teach me how to check the actual SQL run in Oracle?
    Thanks a lot.
    Regards,
    Jason

Hi Michel Thanks. But it looks like the query stored in v$sqlarea is not the final executable SQL. for example, the code in application is "select column_A from default_table where column_A = ?" and this ? will be given some value in run time. the query stored in v$sqlarea will be like "select column_A from default_table where column_A = :1"... what is this :1?
Also if some PL/SQL procedure appends some condition to the SQL, is it possible to view the full query from database side?
ok, let me try trace and tkprof first.

  • How to set Different applications running on the same computer to use different Gateways?

    Dear All,
I would like to have different applications running on the same computer to use different Gateways (both gateways are in the same subnet).
Is it possible in Windows7 with / without a third-party utility?
    Current scenario & requirements:
I have two internet connections. Both are in the same subnet (192.168.1.0/24) and connected to the same LAN switch
Gateway for the first connection is 192.168.1.1
Gateway for the second connection is 192.168.1.2
I need to set my chrome browser & google talk to use the gateway 192.168.1.1
I need to set my IE & skype to use the gateway 192.168.1.2
Is it possible? Answers are appreciated!!
    Regards,
    Anees

    Hi,
I agree with Bill. Gateway is essentially an IP address for one network to other networks. For example, you have two networks: network A and network B, to make the two networks communicate with each other, you must go through Gateway. That is, as long
as you set Gateway, then you can make the two networks communicate with each other. The ip address for Gateway is the ip of device with routing enabled. One host machine can own multiple gateways.

  • Can JDev 10.1.3 ADF application run in Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g?

    Hi,
We have a 10.1.2.0.2 application server and our JDeveloper 10.1.3 ADF application is running in a separate 10.1.3 home because it was unable to run in the first one. We are thinking about upgrading to Fusion Middleware 11g and I'm wondering if anyone knows will I be able to set it up somehow so that the JDev application runs in this or would I leave it in the 10.1.3?
    Thanks
    Adam

I dont think this would be feasible till project fusion is through.
    Thanks
