  • How to batch rename with index/counter all files in a project?

I have a project with files named with an index (I believe that is the correct term).  For example, the files are named XX1, XX2, and so on.  However, some files have the same name because I imported from two different memory cards, without thinking to set the starting number for the second import into the same project.  I would like to batch rename all of the files (masters and versions) with a consecutive index (1, 2, 3, and so on).  How can this be done?  I have found in the manual the way to do this on import, but not how to correct my mistake now.  Thanks!

I would like to batch rename all of the files (masters and versions) with a consecutive index (1, 2, 3, and so on).
Select the images in the project and then use ( from the main Aperture application menu)
         Matadata -> Batch Change (Shift-Command-B)
Set the Version Name format to one of the "Custom with Index ..." or "Custom with Counter ..." formats and check "Apply to Master Files". Make sure you disable all other changes that you do not want, like Time Zone correction, or keywords.

  • How to batch rename filenames based on metadata tags

    // Hello,
I have a few hundred photos I need to batch rename pulling the info from the metadata caption tags (Each caption is unique).
What I need to do can happen just on export if necessary. I've tried Aperture 2 and Automator but no luck.
Any advice would be great. Thank you,

  • How to batch rename iPhoto photo-files?

    Hi there,
I do have some 15.000 photos in my library and many of them do have the same names (digital camera or digital disc transfer).
So when I just want to copy some photos to another folder or whatever, i run into some problems because many photos carry the same name, they cant be saved into one folder.
Do i have a chance of batch renamining the FILENAMES of my iPhoto library without damaging anything?
    Alexander

You can select the files you want to rename, right click and choose "Batch Change". Select the title, select Text, and then type in a name... click on the checkbox to append a sequence number to the photo.
OR if you want to go through and manually select photos and rename them, just edit their title.
NOW for the tricky part. This renames the image in the iPhoto library, but as you mentioned, the filenames are not being changed. Select the photos you just renamed, and export them (from the file menu). You then can direct iPhoto to export them using the TITLE rather than the existing original file name. Look in the folder, and you will see that you have new files created with the title as the filename instead.
This can be confusing, but just remember iPhoto IS a database, not a file browser (like Finder).

  • How to batch rename from a CSV file?

    Hello,
I have about 1000 photos that need to be renamed with UPC's from a CSV file. Is there a script (or easier way) to import a CSV column and add it to the file extension?
    Example:
_MG_5200.CR2 would need to read  00726899281640_MG_5200.CR2

There are a number of csv to ldif options out there. If you want to drop your users into WLS, then formatting into an ldif is the easiest way to bulk load.

  • How to batch rename images with YYYMMDD-City-State, type of format

I want to change the names of my files to YYYMMDD-City-State, type of format.. I tried using the file naming template but all that show on the photos is the date.file extension. What am I doing wrong
    Thanks

You need one other file name specification - such as original file number - because each file name needs to be unique, and the format Date-City-State alone doesn't create unique file names.
In the Library Module go >Library >Rename photo, and in the box that comes up click on the small triangle on the right of the field. This will bring up the file name editor.
In the file name editor you have to select four specifications for the file name. See screen shot:
Click <Done> and save the preset.

  • Batch rename files on the server?

Can someone explain how to batch rename files on the server ?
I have 1000 rows each containing these fields
    id (unique key)
    productCode
    filename1
    filename2
For every row I need to rename the following fields:
    Rename [filename1] to [productCode]_[id]_1
    Rename [filename2] to [productCode]_[id]_2
also I need to rename the actual file on the server using the above scheme
Can someone show me the way ? I'm a little rusty with ColdFusion

So far I've got everything working apart from CFFILE which works only if it finds a corresponding jpeg file on the server. In other words it works perfectly until row 20 of the database because the filename contained in the field doesn't have a matching jpeg file on the server, so CFFILE fails like this...
Attribute validation error for tag CFFILE.
The value of the attribute source, which is currently C:\images\DSCN1293.JPG, is invalid.
The error occurred in C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\link\htdocs\old_apps\psp\updater.cfm: line 63
    61 :                    action = "rename"
    62 :                    source = #my_source1#
    63 :                    destination = #my_destination1#>
is there a way to carry on looping through the remaining rows and ignore the above fail ?

In iPhoto '11: Select the photo in the "Faces" stack, open the "Info" panel, click on the face name in the "faces" brick and then on the name below the face to edit the name.

  • After updating Macbook to Yosemite, Adobe Bridge CS5.1 will not batch rename .jpgs without corrupting the files. How can I fix this?

I have a student who when he tries to batch rename his .jpgs in Adobe Bridge CS5.1, the files will become corrupted and will not be able to open them. The extension is off. How can I correct this for him?

    Wait, I just caught this:

Are you referring to the 3-letter ".jpg" extension being deleted?  You can't do that, of course!  If that is still the case, you'll have to add it manually to each JPEG file.

  • How do I remove a number sequence using batch rename

    Hi
I know I've done this in the past but cannot seem to work it out today.
I have a series of images "_####_[layercompName].png".  I would like to remove the underscores and numbers.  The underscores removal is easy, but how do I remove the numbers (####) when they are different for each filename?  I would like the end result to be [layercompName].png
The reason I have these filenames in the first place is that I have run the photoshop script "layer comps to files", and this adds a number sequence prefix.  I have tried to alter the script following various instructions I've found from trawling the internet (this one included How do you remove the number sequence when exporting layer comps to files? CS6. Windows 8.) but without any luck.  So now I'm resorting to batch renaming in Bridge.
    Thanks!

Here you go, taken straight from: DesignEasy: How to Remove Sequence Numbers and Empty Spaces When Exporting Layers and Layer Comps
Run Adobe Bridge and navigate to the folder with exported files.
Select all files which have sequence numbers.
Go to Tools > Batch Rename.
Choose: String Substitution from the first drop-down list in New Filenamessection. From the second drop-down choose: Original Filename. In the Find: text field type: _\d{4}_ (underscore, backslash, letter d, open bracket, number four, closed bracket, underscore). Leave Replace with: text field blank. Ensure that you have Replace All and Use Regular Expression checked as shown on the screenshot below.
Click on the Preview button in the top right corner and ensure that files will be renamed as you want.
Click on Rename button and you are done.
In case you are first time doing this and you still have doubts if everything will work as expected, check Copy to other folder option when renaming files. This option is located near the top left corner under: Destination Folder.
Another thing I want to mention is to remove everything that you have below String Substitution options. In case you see additional renaming options just click on minus (-) sign on the right side to remove them.
How to remove/substitute empty spaces in the file name using Adobe Bridge
It is pretty similar process. The only difference is that you should type: \s (backslash followed with letter s) in the Find: text field. You can leave Replace with: text field blank or to type underscore.

  • Batch Rename... how do I keep the version number [NOT the version name]?

    Hi!
I've finally made up my mind about renaming my img. names in Aperture, and I would like to have something like "Travel San Francisco 2005 version x 1.CR2", where "version x" is the number which Aperture automatically adds whenever I make a change to an image. This is then followed by a number which automatically increases by one for every new image: 1, 2, 3, 4... etc. until there are no more images to choose from in the current project.
My problem is that I cannot figure out how to get Aperture to keep the, for me, very helpful "version 1, 2, ..." info attached to the images during renaming. In the Batch rename dialog box I am able to choose "Version Name" but that only gives me the current name of the selected image which I do not want. Aperture just replaces the "version x" in the image name.
Can anyone help me, or am I asking for something that cannot be done in Aperture?
    Kind regards
    Heine

    HI, there:
I like answering these easy ones. Too often the questions regarding Aperture can't be solved as of yet becasue it's a bug or a lacking feature.
Anyway, when you import your files, look for the sidebar that has all the options on it. Look for a spot that says "Name Format." When you get there, there should be a drop down menu that will allow you to choose a variety of options. One of the options is "custom name with counter." Aperture will automatically assign each image a custom name and a numerical number starting with 1 and incrementing by 1 for a maximum of 999. You can change the options for this by selecting "edit" from the drop down menu.
    Cheers

  • On CS5, how can I recover jpeg images that were Batch Renamed prior to removal from my flashcard?

On CS5, how can you recover JPEG images that were accidentally Batch Renamed prior to removal from a flash card? Is it a total lose or can they be saved somehow?

If they were renamed on the flash card that is a poor practice.  If renamed in Bridge the old names can be recovered it you have checked "preserve original name in XMP".  If not you are out of luck.  But you still have the images correct?

  • How can I Batch Rename Files in Aperture?

Yesterday I imported some new photos and accidentally used the settings from my last import which named my images in a way that needs to be changed. I have already rated and edited many of the images so I don't want to reimport them from my memory cards.
Is there a way to batch rename the images - preferably to the original file name from the camera? If not a custom name would be fine.
