How to build a 1D array n save it as a line on an open text

Hi,
I'm writing some code for the SR630 thermoucouple monitor. I want it to scan through the channels and then save the data into a text or xcel file.
I have managed to get the scan to work, and even saving to the file, but each number is placed beneath the previous one, where instead I would ideally want to store all of the numbers from a single sweep on the same line, such that there would be 5 columns of data each corresponding to sweeps of a single channel.
Ideally an additional column would also be present on each line with a timestamp of the sweep as a whole.
Can anyone help?

I'm guessing this is because the function doesn't wait for all 5 numbers to build a single line to then send off as a whole to "write to text file". It sends each single number as it is received?
Could I use the "pickup line" function to loop onto itself to build a single line?
No, it is because the instrument is returning an End of Line at the end of response.  You are saving this to the file and therefore each item will show up on separate lines.  I would use the Trim Whitespace to clear this out inside of the for loop.
To add a timestamp, simply add it to the string array before formating into the spreadsheet string.

  • How to build a cluster array dynamically from another cluster array?

    I'm working on a problem where I seem to be getting lost in a sea of
    possibilities, none of which strikes me as optimum. Here's what I need to do.
    I've got an input array of clusters (ARR1). Each cluster contains the
    following components: an integer (INT1), a ring variable (RING1), a boolean
    (BOOL1) and a cluster which itself is simply a bunch of ring variables
    (CLUST1) Now, I need to transform that into a set of clusters (CLUST3) each of
    which contains an array of characters (CHARARY2), a copy of the ring variable
    (RING2), a copy of the boolean variable (BOOL2) and a copy of the cluster
    (CLUST2).
    To build the CLUST3, I need to find all elements within ARR1 that have the
    same unique combination of RING1 and BOOL1, and if BOOL1 is True, then RING1
    in addition, build an array of all the INT1 values corresponding to each
    unique combination above converted to character, and then bundle this array
    plus the unique combination of the other variables into a new cluster. In
    general I could have several such clusters.
    So if I had the following array to start with:
    Index INT1 RING1 BOOL1 CLUST1
    0 3 1 F {Values1}
    1 2 1 T {Values2}
    2 4 0 F {Values1}
    3 6 0 F {Values3}
    4 1 2 T {Values2}
    5 4 2 T {Values2}
    6 3 0 T {Values3}
    7 4 2 T {Values3}
    I should end up with the following clusters:
    CHARARY2 RING2 BOOL1 CLUST1
    "3" 1 F Don't care
    "2" 1 T {Values2}
    "4","6" 0 F Don't care
    "1","4" 2 T {Values2}
    "3" 0 T {Values3}
    "4" 2 T {Values3}
    What methods would you suggest for accomplishing this easily and efficiently?

    Tedious but not conceptually difficult.
    ARR1 goes into a for loop, auto indexed on the FOR loop. The for loop has a
    shift register which will be used to build the output array. Nested within
    the for loop is another for loop, which the shift register array goes into,
    again auto indexed, along with the element that has been auto-indexed from
    ARR1. This for loop has a shift register, initialised with a boolean "true".
    The inner loop compares the current element of ARR1 with the output array
    and if an element in the output array is already present which matches the
    input by your criteria, then the boolean register is set false; otherwise it
    is left alone.
    After the nested FOR loop you have a case fed from the boolean shift
    register; if the boolean is true, the new element is unique and should be
    added to the array. If it is false then a previous element has been found
    making the present one redundant, and the array should be passed through
    without adding the element.
    In the true case, you simply unbundle the original element into its
    components and build the new element, using "build array".
    Notes for if the above is easy for you;
    1) if handling lots of data then pre-initialise the shift register of your
    outer loop with the same number of elements as your input array. Use
    "Replace Array Subset" instead of "Build Array" to insert the current
    element into the pre-allocated memory rather than having to create a new
    array and copy all the current data across, which is what "Build Array" is
    doing. Use "Array Subset" at the end to obtain a new array containing just
    the elements you've used, removing the unused ones at the end.
    2) Again for large datasets- the use of a while loop instead of the inner
    for loop is more efficient since you can halt the while loop as soon as a
    duplicate is found. With the described approach you have to go through the
    whole array even if the first element turns out to be a duplicate- much
    wasted computer time.

  • How to build a array with high sampling rates 1K

    Hi All:
    Now I am trying to develop a project with CRio.
    But I am not sure how to build a array with high sampling rates signal, like >1K. (Sigle-point data)
    Before, I would like to use "Build Arrary" and "Shift Register" to build a arrary, but I found it is not working for high sampling rates.
    Is there anyother good way to build a data arrary for high sampling rates??
    Thanks

    Can't give a sample of the FPGA right now but here is a sample bit of RT code I recently used. I am acquiring data at 51,200 samples every second. I put the data in a FIFO on the FPGA side, then I read from that FIFO on the RT side and insert the data into a pre-initialized array using "Replace Array subset" NOT "Insert into array". I keep a count of the data I have read/inserted, and once I am at 51,200 samples, I know I have 1 full second of data. At this point, I add it to a queue which sends it to another loop to be processed. Also, I don't use the new index terminal in my subVI because I know I am always adding 6400 elements so I can just multiply my counter by 6400, but if you use the method described further down below , you will want to use the "new index" to return a value because you may not always read the same number of elements using that method.
    The reason I use a timeout of 0 and a wait until next ms multiple is because if you use a timeout wired to the FIFO read node, it spins a loop in the background that polls for data, which rails your processor. Depending on what type of acquisition you are doing, you can also use the method of reading 0 elements, then using the "elements remaining" variable, to wire up another node as is shown below. This was not an option for me because of my programs architecture and needing chunks of 1 second data. Had I used this method it would have overcomplicated things if I read more elements then I had available in my 51,200 buffer.
    Let me knwo if you have more qeustions

  • How to ask for an array and how to save the values

    I'm supposed to be learning the differences between a linear search and a binary search, and the assignment is to have a user input an array and search through the array for a given number using both searches. My problem is that I know how to ask them how long they want their array to be, but I don't know how to call the getArray() method to actually ask for the contents of the array.
    My code is as follows:
    import java.util.Scanner;
    import java.util.ArrayList;
    public class Main
        private static Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in);
        public static void main (String args[])
            //creates ArrayList
            int List[];
            System.out.println("How long would you like the array to be?");
            int arrayLength = input.nextInt();
            //Initializes array list
            List = new int [arrayLength];
            System.out.println("Please enter the first value of the array");
        public static void getArray(int List[], int arrayLength)
            for(int i=0; i < arrayLength; i++) {
                 System.out.println("Enter the next value for array");
                 List[i] = input.nextInt();
         public static void printArray(int List[])
             for(int i=0; i < List.length; i++)
                 System.out.print(List[i] + " ");
    public class search
        public static int binarySearch(int anArray[], int first, int last, int value)
            int index;
            if(first > last) {
                index = -1;
            else {
                int mid = (first + last)/2;
                if(value == anArray[mid]) {
                    index = mid; //value found at anArray[mid]
                else if(value < anArray[mid]) {
                    //point X
                    index = binarySearch(anArray, first, mid-1, value);
                else {
                    //point Y
                    index = binarySearch(anArray, mid+1, last, value);
                } //end if
            } //end if
            return index;
        //Iterative linear search
        public int linearSearch(int a[], int valueToFind)
            //valueToFind is the number that will be found
            //The function returns the position of the value if found
            //The function returns -1 if valueToFind was not found
            for (int i=0; i<a.length; i++) {
                if (valueToFind == a) {
    return i;
    return -1;

    I made the changes. Two more questions.
    1.) Just for curiosity, how would I have referenced those methods (called them)?
    2.) How do I call the searches?
    import java.util.Scanner;
    import java.util.ArrayList;
    public class Main
        private static Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in);
        public static void main (String args[])
            //creates ArrayList
            int List[];
            System.out.println("How many values would you like the array to have?");
            int arrayLength = input.nextInt();
            //Initializes array list
            List = new int [arrayLength];
            //Collects the array information
            for(int i=0; i < arrayLength; i++) {
                 System.out.println("Enter a value for array");
                 List[i] = input.nextInt();
            //Prints the array
            System.out.print("Array: ");
            for(int i=0; i < List.length; i++)
                 System.out.print(List[i] + " ");
            //Asks for the value to be searched for
            System.out.println("What value would you like to search for?");
            int temp = input.nextInt();

  • How to append data in array

    I use three read waveform nodes to read data from three channels of
    oscilloscope. The data of each channel are 1D array, and I use build
    array node to change them into 2D array. It can work well now.
    When I want to continuously reading data, I put the read waveform nodes
    and build array node into a while loop structure(a timer controls the
    time when to stop). That means every time, the program calls read
    waveform nodes and then changes them into 2D array. The problem is:after
    each loop, the data stored in the 2D array are overwrited. So, at last,
    I can only get the last loop data.
    I want to append the data into the 2D array, but I do not know how to
    implement? I have tried put the build array outside the while loop,
    unfortunatel
    y, it does not work.
    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Before you buy.

    The shift register is a built in way to carry data forward from one
    iteration of a loop to the next iteration.. Anything that you feed into the
    right shift register appears a data at the beginning of the next loop. You
    already have Build Array to combine three 1D array Elements into a single 2D
    array. Use another Build Array function to combine the current 2D array
    with the previous 2D array to create a combined array. To do this, you must
    change the input mode of the Build Array function to Array (not Element).
    This will concatenate the arrays and make the continuous data that you are
    after.
    The only other hidden step is that you must use Initialize Array to feed a
    blank, 2D array into the left shift register to clear any leftover data.

  • How do you create an array without using a shell on the FP?

    I want to be able to read the status of front panel controls (value, control box selection, etc.) and save it to a file, as a "configuration" file -- then be able to load it and have all the controls set to the same states as were saved in the file. I was thinking an array would be a way to do this, as I have done that in VB. (Saving it as a text file, then reading lines back into the array when the file is read and point the control(s) values/states to the corresponding array element.
    So how do I create an array of X dimensions without using a shell on the front panel? Or can someone suggest a better way to accomplish what I am after? (Datalogging doesn't allow for saving the status by a filename, so I
    do not want to go that route.)

    Thanks so much m3nth! This definitely looks like what I was wanting... just not really knowing how to get there.
    I'm not sure I follow all the icons. Is that an array (top left with 0 constant) in the top example? And if so, that gets back to part of my original question of how to create an array without using a shell on the FP. Do I follow your diagram correctly?
    If I seem a tad green... well I am.
    I hope you understand the LabVIEW environment and icons are still very new to me.
    Also, I had a response from an NI app. engineer about this problem. He sent me a couple of VI's that he threw together approaching this by using Keys. (I still think you are pointing to the best solution.) I assume he wouldn't mind m
    e posting his reply and the VI's for the sake of a good, thorough, Roundtable discussion. So here are his comments with VI's attached:
    "I was implementing this exact functionality this morning for an application I'm working on. I only have five controls I want to save, but they are all of different data types. I simply wrote a key for each control, and read back that key on initialization. I simply passed in property node values to the save VI at the end, and passed the values out to property nodes at
    the beginning. I've attached my initialize and save VI's for you to view. If you have so many controls that this would not be feasible, you may want to look into clustering the controls and saving the cluster as a datalog file.

  • How to load a second array?

    I have this code loading a set of thumbnails. Right now the
    first set of thumbs loads fine but how to load my second array in a
    new row?

    Well my first idea would be that somewhere you are out of
    scope and therefore you are getting an undefined somewhere in your
    code.
    So it might be trying to pass "undefined" as your url.
    I would start with the debugger and step through the code to
    make sure that it is able to get all the values it needs at every
    step.
    A good understanding of the debugger tool will save you tons
    of time.
    My next idea would be to split the code up using the command
    pattern.
    Also, since you only have two arrays, you could put an if
    statement before incrementing the arr variable.
    example:
    if (arr < 2){
    arr++;
    }

  • How to build a server?

    Hey,
    Can anybody tell where I can find online tutorials on how to build a server using java?
    Thanks

    @bender02
    Thx very much for your link. This ready-made solutions can help me to save a lot of otherwise wasted time. QNAP's NAS solution looks good and this Bubba|Two (though it doesn't have mirroring via raid1) is also very attractive.
    I am very interested in what server solution you use.
    My planned server is really for local network uses only. It should serve for file related purposes like file sharing over the network, backup (maybe with raid1) and a centralized data storage.
    I think I will settle with one of this commercial and ready-for-use systems. The thought to tinker around and to make everything by yourself is very temptating but I am getting weary of it. And I dont have the time to tinker around as I have to study enormous amounts
    If I did everything by myself I would have to learn how to handle ssh and rsync, which software is suited for what purpose, how I can configure each software to fit my needs and at last I would have to work on some scripts or search for them to achieve a workaround. And this takes for weeks and months, time that I can't afford -.- sometimes a desktop alone can be enough work to do, when I want everything to be "perfect" and "secure". In the past the guys worked on their motorcycles and now they work on their computers, hehe
    So if nobody has a very good reason why I should tinker around, then I'll buy some ready-for-use stuff.

    An inefficient way to create the array is to use the build array and a shift register as shown below. It's more effecient in terms of memory management to create the array and then use the replace array subset as shown in the other image. Of course, if you don't need the array inside the loop, just wire the value out of the while loop and on the exit tunnel, right click and select 'Enable Indexing'.

  • How do I populate an array with a directory listing.

    I have a web site that has its photos updated by another person using a content management system that I have written. As Dreamweaver does not know about these extra photos, if I try to
    syncronise the site on my machine for backup purposes, Dreamweaver downloads all 5000+ photos, and this can take upwards of 12 hours if there are no breaks in the connection.
    So I am trying to write a page that creates an array of the existing files on the remote site. It will then do the same on my local site, and by comparing the arrays, will make a list of the new files, and then download these, which will save a lot of time and bandwith charges.
    First I have to read the directory list, using the code below which reads and echos it on screen.
    However, I cannot work out how to populate the required array.
    <?php
        try
        {          /***photo directory ***/
            $it = new directoryIterator('../web/thumbs');
            while( $it->valid())
                  /*** echo if not a dot directory ***/
                if( !$it->isDot() )
    /**** Array creation code needs to go here I think.***/
    echo $it->current()."<br />";
         /*** move to the next element ***/
                      $it->next();
        catch(Exception $e)
            /*** echo the error message ***/
            echo $e->getMessage();

    How do I store it in an array?
    Howard Walker

    Although not the solution you were looking for, consider the following:
    Click the icon in DW for "Expand to show local and remote sites."  Arrange the remote image directory by "Modified date," Then select all the recent images and GET them.
    I find the above method good enough for occassional synchronization. I also simply ignore broken image links on the testing system.
    If the above is not a solid enough solution, perhaps someone else will write your array function for you. I don't have the time.

  • Building and manipulating Arrays within MathScript

    Hi LabVIEW forum,
    Does anyone have any advice, examples or other useful information about how to build and manipulate (i.e. find elements in arrays) from within a MathScript node ?
    Regards,

    Is this related to your other post? If so, you should keep the discussion to the same thread so people have some context to the question.
    If you're asking a general question... have you looked at the documentation?

  • How to insert a 2D array into the end of X axis of the initial array?

    Hi, friends, I have a question and look for an advice. I have several input data, each of which has 4 rows and unknow columns. Each time I receive the input, I need to combine it to all of the previous ones by adding it to the end of X axis of the previous combined data. I must do it because, later, I need to run my model and my model read input for each column of 4 rows. How should I do it? Also, should I initiate an array before reading all of the inputs? The inputs are F32 format. Thank you very much for any of your advice.

    Building a 2D array row-by-row is easy. You either use "build array" if you need to update the indicator during the run, or you simply autoindex at the loop  boundary (FOR or WHILE).
    Two possibilities are shown in the attached image. If your arrays are getting large and you use a while loop, there are possibilities that are more memory efficient. You would initialize a 2D array (e.g. filled with NaNs) of an upper boundary of the final expected size, then replace rows as you go.
    (Notice that if you use autoindexing on a FOR loop, the final size is known from the beginning so memory can be allocated efficiently)

  • How to build a wsdl which can cater dynamically to number of attachments

    We have a WebService client that calls a Webservice on the Server.
    When the client calls the webservice , it passes the SOAP message(Header,Body & MIME attachments)and these attachments vary in number based on different business requirements.
    We know how to build WSDL for server with static number of attachments,but no clue on how to build a wsdl which can cater dynamically to number of attachments comming from client request.
    - thanks in advance

    Hello,
    We may have multiple approaches here depending of :
    - which version of the product you are using
    - what are your clients in term of stack, and API they are willing to use
    - which encoding did you use for your WS (swa, swaRef or dime)
    So for my answer I am documenting how to do it on OracleAS 10gR3 (10.1.3), using swaRef approach.
    The easiest way is to exchange array of binary data and describle that in the WSDL, so in my case the WSDL element that is used will look like that:
    <element name="filesResponseElement">
    <complexType>
    <sequence>
    <element name="result" type="ns1:swaRef" minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="unbounded"/>
    </sequence>
    </complexType>
    </element>
    This will generate from the Java code an array of AttachmentPart[].

  • RS232 and how to build some datas into a waveform

    Hello everyone !
    I would like to ask you a question about how to build some datas into waveform.
    Let's me explain :
    Actually, I am working on a project with a PIC.
    The PIC sent 3 informations to Laview by RS 232 :'velocity;current;tension\n'
    Lynn and Crossrulz help me to make a diagram that allows to read datas and displays them with charts.
    It works perfectly.
    Now, I would like to display some datas from a sensor (dynamic datas)  and double datas from RS232 on the same chart with different plot.
    So, I have to build double datas into waveform,  convert double datas into dynamic datas.
    I have tried something : I used 'Convert to dynamic data' function but it doesn't work and I don't know why.
    Can you help me ?
    I join you :

    - a gif that shows what's happening
    - screenshot
    Notice : I used 'simulate signal' to represent a sensor
    Thanks for your help

    Hello Crossrulz !
    Thanks again for your help.
    I have found Build Waveform but I get a strange result.
    As first step, I have simplified my problem and I have just tried to build a waveform from my datas.
    Since Build Waveform must have an array as input, I have used  Array Subset.
    As result, I don't get a plot but if you pay attention, you can see a little white dot around my value.
    How can I fix that ?
    Thanks again

  • How to build a Oracle style Web site

    Dear All,
    (Not sure whether this question should be this sub-site or not.)
    My question is how to build a Oracle style Web site, what technology should be use.
    Example Site: [http://www.orapub.net/ebs/index.htm|http://www.orapub.net/ebs/index.htm]
    This web site style is like Oracle Enterprise Manager.
    Thanks a lot
    Pan

    You can use Oracle Webcenter or just Oracle ADF to build a Oracle Enterprise Manager kind of Website.
