How to change the scrollbar arrows ?

Hi everyone !
I'd like to modify the default look of a Jscrollbar. I can't figure out how this can be done ! Anyone has any idea ?

I'm willing to bet that anyone who needs to ask the question won't go through with it. As I see it, the broad steps are, from the bottom up --
-- subclass BasicArrowButton (and/or MetalArrowButton, and/or...) and override paint(...) and possibly other methods for the custom look.
-- subclass BasicScrollBarUI (and/or MetalScrollBarUI, and/or...) and override create...Button methods to use the corresponding subclassed ArrowButton.
-- construct the correct subclassed ScrollbarUI depending on the current LAF
-- call setUI(ScrollBarUI) on the scrollbar to be customized.
Getting so far can involve hours of reading the swing sources to understand how the UI works.
Only changing the disabled color of a JComboBox was hard enough
