I want to know approximate amount of temporary tablespace size used for index rebuild. I need this information to avoid the insufficient temporary tablespace error during the huge index rebuild.

While creating the index, the temporary segment is created in the permanent tablespace. So permanent tablespace must have sufficient space.

works fine.
I am trying to build a function for that:

However, I need to make some enhancements:
1. how to make comments in sql files?Refer to the REM statement in the sqlplus reference manual
2. a lot of outputs are generated:
SQL> @get_size

old 3: where tablespace_name=upper('&user')
new 3: where tablespace_name=upper('tts1')
MB

how to avoid that so that only the size is
displayed.
for example:

Dear Amit,
You can enlarge the size of existing Online Redo log files, by adding new groups with different size of files (origlog$/mirrlog$) and then carefully droping the old groups with their associated inactive files.
Please refer SAP Note 309526 - Enlarging redo log files to perform the activity.
Steps to perform:
STEP-1. Analyze the exisiting situation and prepare an action plan.
A. You have to ensure that no more than one log switch per minute occurs during peak times.
It may also be necessary to increase the size of the online redo logs until they are large enough.
Too many log switches lead to too many checkpoints, which in turn lead to a high writing load in the I/O subsystem.
Use ST04 -> Additional Functions --> Display GV$-Views
There you can select
Gv$LOG_HISTORY --->for determing your existing LOG switching frequency.
GV$LOG -
> list the status(INACTIVE/CURRENT/ACTIVE) /size/sequence no. of existing online redolog files
GV$LOGFILE --- > list the information of existing online redolog files with their storage paths
You can document the existing situation of Online Redo Log Fiile management before going to enlarge Redo Log Files.
It will be helpful, if something goes wrong while performing activities.
B. Based on above Situation analysis, Plan your New Redo Log Group and there Members with new optimal size.
e.g.

How to estimate undo tablespace size in 11g?

I found someone document said, use this sql to estimate undo tablespace:
select (UR*(UPS*DBS))+(DBS*24) as "bytes" from (select value as UR from v$parameter where name='undo_retention'),(select (sum(undoblks)/sum(((end_time-begin_time)*86400))) as UPS from v$undostat),(select value as DBS from v$parameter where name='db_block_size');
but in my 11g database, the "select value as UR from v$parameter where name='undo_retention'" is 0. so above sql is always get 196608(8192*24)

for undo segments size you should turn it to be autoextend on as well undo management set to be AUTO
i.e
undo_managment='AUTO'
for retention see that link
Ora-01555, snapshot too old: rollback segment number 2 with name "_SYSSMU1
BTW as hemant stated leave it to be auto which is good approach but make sure enough space on disk has been
dedicated for undo segments are allowed to grow to the size they need to be based on the requested undo_retention.

Oracle 8.0 - how to identify temporary tablespace using dba v$ views

can someone tell me how can I query a v$ or dba_ view to identify which are the temporary tablespace in a 8.0.5 Oracle database?

8.0 did not have the concept of tempfiles.
However, a Tablespace could be created as a Temporary tablespace (still using "normal" datafiles) with CREATE/ALTER TABLESPACE tablespacename TEMPORAR.
Meaning : You can't query DBA_TEMP_FILES or V$TEMPFILEs. You have to query DBA_USERS to identify the designated Temporary Tablespace(s) and then query DBA_TABLESPACES for the storage parameters and then query DBA_DATA_FILES for the files.
You can also query DBA_TABLESPACES for CONTENTS='TEMPORARY' and then query DBA_DATA_FILES.

Temporary tablespace size

Hi,
I have a doubt regarding temporary tablespace. Oracle 9.2.0.5
When I create the default tablespace temp I see it growing and growing during some days until it reaches the maximum size and then it give the error ORA-01652: unable to extend temp segment by 128 in tablespace TEMP
but monitoring the v$sort_segment I see one or 2 users logged and using the temp.
So my doubt is: what I have to do to find the BEST size for my temp tablespace. which queries is the recomended one to see the temp segments being used ?

To improve the concurrence of multiple sort operations, reduce their overhead, or avoid Oracle space management operations altogether, create temporary tablespaces. A temporary tablespace can be shared by multiple users and can be assigned to users with the CREATE USER statement when you create users in the database.
Within a temporary tablespace, all sort operations for a given instance and tablespace share a single sort segment. Sort segments exist for every instance that performs sort operations within a given tablespace. The sort segment is created by the first statement that uses a temporary tablespace for sorting, after startup, and is released only at shutdown. An extent cannot be shared by multiple transactions.
You can view the allocation and deallocation of space in a temporary tablespace sort segment using the V$SORT_SEGMENT view. The V$TEMPSEG_USAGE view identifies the current sort users in those segments.

I'm not sure but i think that with the tablename you can find the size in the DB02.
To know the PSA Tablename, double click on datasourse > go to > Tecnical attributes
There you have the name of the PSA Table.

Help! how to check the SQL run in Oracle?

I have a problem. the developer said the SQL written in Java code are not the one executed in Oracle DB. that mean the query is some how manipulated by some PL/SQL so the final query run in Oracle is different. So can someone teach me how to check the actual SQL run in Oracle?

But it looks like the query stored in v$sqlarea is not the final executable SQL. for example, the code in application is "select column_A from default_table where column_A = ?" and this ? will be given some value in run time. the query stored in v$sqlarea will be like "select column_A from default_table where column_A = :1"... what is this :1?
Also if some PL/SQL procedure appends some condition to the SQL, is it possible to view the full query from database side?

Hi,
As you know archived log is create when online log is switch. Archived log size might be maximum equal to online redo log size.
Because archived log size is copied from online redo log file, if you want change archived redo log size, then you must change online redo log size.
But you must think, what is advantages and disadvantages of change of online redo log size, it depends direct task LGWR process.
You can change archived redo log name with change LOG_ARCHIVE_FORMAT parameter.
