How to configure current SQL high availability cluster using mirroring with dedicated replication NICS?

We have a current HA cluster at center1 which is mirrored to another HA cluster in center2.   We have several instances already installed and working which are using one NIC for data and replication.  We want to prevent mirror failovers by
configuring a NIC on a replication network which has no DNS server.   What are the steps to configure the current SQL instances to use this dedicated NIC for mirror replication?

Hi dskim111,
You can refer the following step by step article to create the dedicated mirroring NIC,

  • Multi Site SQL High Availability group

    Hi,
We have our primary Data Centre where we have 2 MS SQL 2012 Enterprise Servers and 2 SharePoint 2013 Enterprise servers.
We have SQL High Availability group implemented on our primary Site (Site A)
Site A has subnet of 192.168.0.0.
We recently added a new DR Site (Site B). Site B we have MS SQL 2012 Enterprise Servers.  Site B have a subnet of
    172.1.1.0
Both sites are connected via a VPN Tunnel. MS SQL 2012 Enterprise Server on Site B has been added in have SQL High Availability
    group of Site A.
SQL High Availability group have 2 IPs 192.168.0.32 and 172.1.1.32. SQL Listener have 2 IPs 192.168.0.33 and 172.1.1.33
We want to make sure that if Site A completely down then Site B work as an active Site. But when Site A down we are unable
to ping High Availability group and Site B is unable to work as active site. SQL and SharePoint services are completely down.
Site A has AD(Primary Domain  Controller) and Site B has ADC(Additional Domain Controller).
     Site A has witness server.
We are using Server 2012 Data Centre
    Please suggest.

SharePoint is not the same as any other applications. The DR site has to be a completely different farm from your production. This means that the SharePoint_AdminContent and config databases on both farms are different and should not be included in the Availability
Group (they do not support asynchronous Availability Group.) Only content databases and other SharePoint databases supported in an Availability Group should be included as per this
TechNet article. Have a look at this
blog post for your networking configuration.
The reason your Windows cluster service goes down in the DR data center when the when your primary data center goes down is because the cluster has no majority votes. You have 4 available votes in your cluster - 3 in the primary data center in the form of
the 2 Availability Group replicas and the witness server and 1 in the DR data center. If the Windows cluster does not have majority of votes, it automatically shuts down the cluster. This is by design. That is why when this situation happens, you need to force
the cluster to start without a quorum as described in
this article (Windows Server 2012 R2 introduced the concept of dynamic witness and dynamic quorum to address this concern.) By default, the IP address of the Availability Group listener name will be registered on all of the DNS servers if the cluster is
running Windows Server 2012 and higher (this is the RegisterAllProvidersIP property that Samir mentioned.) However, you need to flush the DNS cache on the SharePoint web and application servers and point them to the correct IP address on the DR server after
failover. This is because the default TTL value of the Availability Group listener name is 20 minutes.
It is important to define your DR strategies and objectives when designing the architecture to make sure that the solution will meet your goals. This will also help you automate some of the processes in the DR data center when failover or a disaster occurs.

  • Two SAP Instances in High Availability cluster - SGeSAP - HPUX

    Dear All
We want to install 2 SAP instances in single host with DB and CI separately. DB and CI will be on High Availabilty Cluster using SGeSAP for HP - Unix. The database is Oracle 10g.
Does SAP support multiple instance on the same hosts(DB and CI) for HA option.
    Kindly inform
    Regards
    Lakshmi

Yes it is possible to run two SAP systems on same cluster using SGeSAP.  Normally If there is only one system on the cluster DB is configured on one node and CI is configured on the second node, with fail over in case of a node failure.  In your case if a node fails one node will be running two DB and two CI instances.  You have to size the hardware accordingly.  Just FYI, SGeSAP is licensed per SAP System.

do you know  How to configure SNMP on all managed client using SCCM 2012 SP1?

As a side note, I made an interesting discovery last week: the SNMP Service is deprecated in Windows Server 2012. Why would you want to use SNMP on an actual Windows OS though? There are far better ways available to monitor Windows. I'm sure that lines

How to configure Oracle 10g Advanced Security to use SSL concurrently with database User names and passwords
In Oracle Advanced Security Documentation it is mentioned that i can use SSL concurrently with DB user names and passwords. But when i configure the client certificate on the client my DB connection is getting authenticated using the certificate, which out passing user id or password.
We want to connect to Oracle DB over SSL channel so that the data packets are not in clear text. Also we want the user to make a connection using user id and password.

As it turns out, my external speakers right channel had failed. Audio and system alert sounds were "underwhelming" on the built-in iMac speakers but now play back clearly via the Apple TV over my shoulder.

  • UOO sequencing along with WLS high availability cluster and fault tolerance

    Hi WebLogic gurus.
My customer is currently using the following Oracle products to integrate Siebel Order Mgmt to Oracle BRM:
    * WebLogic Server 10.3.1
    * Oracle OSB 11g
They use path service feature of a WebLogic clustered environment.
They have configured EAI to use the UOO(Unit Of Order) Weblogic 10.3.1 feature to preserve the natural order of subsequent modifications on the same entity.
They are going to apply UOO to a distributed queue for high availability.
    They have the following questions:
    1) When during the processing of messages having the same UOO, the end point becomes unavailable, and another node is available in order to migrate, there is a chance the UOO messages exist in the failed endpoint.
    2) During the migration of the initial endpoint, are these messages persisted?
By persisted we mean that when other messages arrive with the same UOO in the migrated endpoint this migrated resource contains also the messages that existed before the migration?
    3) During the migration of endpoints is the client receiving error messages or not?
I've found an entry on the WLS cluster documentation regarding fault tolerance of such solution.
Special Considerations For Targeting a Path Service
When the path service for a cluster is targeted to a migratable target, as a best practice, the path
service and its custom store should be the only users of that migratable target.
When a path service is targeted to a migratable target its provides enhanced storage of message
unit-of-order (UOO) information for JMS distributed destinations, since the UOO information
will be based on the entire migratable target instead of being based only on the server instance
    hosting the distributed destinations member.
Do you have any feedback to that?
My customer is worry about loosing UOO sequencing during migration of endpoints !!
    best regards & thanks,
    Marco

First, if using a distributed queue the Forward Delay attribute controls the number of seconds WebLogic JMS will wait before trying to forward the messages. By default, the value is set to −1, which means that forwarding is disabled. Setting a Forward Delay is incompatible with strictly ordered message processing, including the Unit-of-Order feature.
When using unit-of-order with distributed destinations, you should always send the messages to the distributed destination rather than to one of its members. If you are not careful, sending messages directly to a member destination may result in messages for the same unit-of-order going to more than one member destination and cause you to lose your message ordering.
When unit-of-order messages are processed, they will be processed in strict order. While the current unit-of-order message is being processed by a message consumer, the next message in the unit-of-order will not be delivered unless it is to the same transaction or session. If no message associated with a particular unit-of-order is processing, then a message associated with that unit-of-order may go to any session that’s consuming from the message’s destination. This guarantees that all messages will be processed one at a time and in order, and any rollback or recover will not prevent ordered processing of the messages.
The path service uses a persistent store to save the state of which member destination a particular unit-of-order is currently using. When a Path Service receives the first message for a particular unit-of-order bound for a distributed destination, it uses the normal JMS load balancing heuristics to select which member destination will handle the unit and writes that information into its persistent store. The Path Service ensures that a new UOO, or an old UOO that has no messages currently on any destination, can be enqueued anywhere in the cluster. Adding and removing member destinations will not disrupt any existing unit-of-order because the routing decision is made dynamically and those decisions are persistent.
If the Path Service is unavailable, any requests to create new units-of-order will throw the JMSOrderException until the Path Service is available. Information about existing units-of-order are cached in the connection factory and destination servers so the Path Service availability typically will not prevent existing unit-of-order messages from being sent or processed.
    Hope this helps.

  • ASA 5520: Configuring Active/Standby High Availability

    Hi,
I am new to Cisco firewalls. We are moving from a different vendor to Cisco ASA 5520s.
I have two ASA 5520s running ASA 8.2(5). I am managing them with ASDM 6.4(5).
I am trying to setup Active/Standby using the High Availability Wizard. I have interfaces on each device setup with just an IP address and subnet mask. Primary is 10.1.70.1/24 and secondary is 10.1.70.2/24. The interfaces are connected to a switch and these interfaces are the only nodes on this switch. When I run the Wizard on the primary, configure for Active/Standby, enter the peer IP of 10.1.70.2 and I get an error message saying that the peer test failed, followed by an error saying ASDM is temporarily unable to connect to the firewall.
I tried this using a crossover cable to connect the interfaces directly with the same result.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.
    Dan

    The command Varun is right.
Since you want to know a little bit more about this stuff, here goes a bit. Every interface will have a secondary IP and a Primary IP where the Active/Standby pair will exchange hello packes. If the hellos are not heard from mate, the the unit is delcare failed.
In case the primary is the one that gets an interface down, it will failover to the other unit, if it is the standby that has the problem, the active unit will declare the other Unit "standby failed). You will know that everything is alright when you do a show failover and the standby pair shows "Standby Ready".
For configuring it, just put a secondary IP on every interface to be monitored (If by any chance you dont have an available secondary IP for one of the interfaces you can avoid monitoring the given interface using the command no "monitor-interface nameif" where the nameif is the name of the interface without the secondary IP.
Then put the commands for failover and stateful link, the stateful link will copy the connections table (among other things) to avoid downtime while passing from One unit to another, This link should have at least the same speed as the regular data interfaces.
You can configure the failover link and the stateful link in just one interface, by just using the same name for the link, remember that this link will have a totally sepparate subnet from the ones already used in firewall.
    This is the configuration
    failover lan unit primary
    failover lan interface failover gig0/3
    failover link failover gig0/3
failover interface ip failover 10.1.0.1 255.255.255.0 standby 10.1.0.2
    failover lan unit secondary
    failover lan interface failover gig0/3
    failover link failover gig0/3
failover interface ip failover 10.1.0.1 255.255.255.0 standby 10.1.0.2
Make sure that you can ping each other secondary/primary IP and then put the command
failover first on the primary and then on the secondary.
    That would fine.
Let me know if you have further doubts.

    Hi Jame,
According to your description, you encountered the error when you were trying to configure a named clustered instance to use SSL certificate.
Based on my research, the error 17182 "TDSSNIClient initialization failed with error 0xd, status code 0x38" occurs specifically because of the fact that the string under Certificate value cannot be properly converted back to a valid thumbprint
    of the certificate.
A common root cause for these symptoms is an invisible character that may have been inadvertently added to the certificate's Thumbprint value, when it gets copied out of the Certificates snap-in's rich-edit control in MMC. For example, if the thumbprint
contains the Unicode character, then it may cause this issue, the following similar issue is for your reference:

  • How much memory does SQL Server 2008R2 Standard use on Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit?

    Hi,
can anyone tell me how much RAM will really be used by SQL Server?
72 GB are currently installed. As Windows is only able to use 32 GB is SQL Server able to use the other 40GB + the unused part of the first 32 GB?
    Thank you very much!
    BR Matthias

    Sorry, I don´t understand your post ?!
Maybe the question is if SQL Server is able to allocate more memory than the installed Windows Version is able to?
Since your OS is Windows Standard edition(X64) it cannot use or a process running cannot use more than 32 G of memory.
Now SQL server can use as much memory possible but it is now limited by Windows as your OS can only see 32 G.So it would be good part from your side to go to sp_configure and set 25 G for SQL server and can leave rest for OS( it just a figure not a actual
value i have given, actual you have to calculate by yourself or refer to below link) .
    http://mssqlwiki.com/2013/04/22/max-server-memory-do-i-need-to-configure/
As Andrew said after 32 G what ever memory you put it is waste.
    Hope this helps

  • High Availability Sites Using ICAN or Java CAPS

Has anyone here implemented either ICAN 5.0.x or Java CAPS 5.1 in a High Availability scenario?
If so, how have people gone about doing it? Have you used a different JMS server? How have you ensures message persistence across a WAN?

    Hi, there,
I am not sure if there is a mostly software based solution for an ICAN deployment in HA. However, if you are using CAPS 5.1+, you can definitely use the SJSAS EE as the runtime, and the bundled SJSMQ EE definitely supports distributed message HA through clustered message brokers.

    Thanks

    Hi,
Sadly, there is no way to do that in Kodo currently. The closest is the inClauseLimit DBDictionary setting, but that setting just breaks things up into multiple IN statements put together with an OR clause. In your case, it looks like the network transport, not the SQL parser, is complaining about size limits.
You could force the query to run in-memory, but that would probably be prohibitively slow, unless the data set that you're querying against is relatively small.
