How to connect to Oracle via ODBC without DSN?

Does anyone know how to use SQLDriverConnect without DSN for Oracle 8.x? What paramaters must be provided in the connection string?
Thanks in advance.

You really want to take a look at the help file here, as it gives all the appropriate parameters. I never remember them off the top of my head.

  • How to connect to oracle jdbc?

    How to connect to oracle database if jdbc thin driver is used? Any example ?
    I saw this in a tutorial but I can't get what are inside the parenthesis.
    OracleConnection connect = (OracleConnection)DriverManager.getConnection(" ", , );
    Anyone can help?Thx!

    I still can't get it.
    It said:
    # Thin Driver, a 100% Java driver for client-side use without an Oracle installation, particularly with applets. The Thin driver type is thin. To connect user scott with password tiger to a database with SID (system identifier) orcl through port 1521 of host myhost, using the Thin driver, you would write :
    Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection
    ("jdbc:oracle:thin:@myhost:1521:orcl", "scott", "tiger");
    I don't even know my SID , port & host. How to get them?

  • Need to find out a way to figure out how DB2 connect to Oracle and data mirroring etc.

    Hi, Gurus,
    I just take over a project which source is ICOMS as400 db2 database. Seems data mirro CDC is used to replicate from DB2 to oracle.
    I am very new to this datamirror CDC , plus I am new to figure out how db2 connect to oracle, is that through db link or what? or is there tnsnames entry?
    I would like anybody in this forum can point me to the right direction.
    Thanks in advance.

    user9233598, if mirroring/replication from DB2 to Oracle already exists then question is what product is being used?  If the product has already been purchased then I do not think it is very likely that management is going to want to purchase another product so I do not see how extra-cost Golden Gate or other Oracle Gateway features apply if those are not currently in use.  If Golden Gate or the Oracle Transparent Gateway are in use then you already have your answer
    Oracle supports ODBC/JODBC and the replication application on the AS400 likely uses these features or a thick Oracle client as the interface to Oracle.

  • How to connect to  Oracle database from webdynprojava application

    Hi
    How to connect to  Oracle database from webdynprojava application. where can we provide the code to connect to database.?
    Thank You.

    Hi,
    You need to create  Java Bean model. The bean is a typical java bean with default constructor, getter and setter. You can have additional methods for query etc. The attributes in the class will be your model node and attributes.
    However you need to configure the connection and create JNDI using visual administrator before writing the code.
    You can also consider writing Session EJB with oracle and using them in WD.

  • How to connect to Oracle 11gR2 from CF9

    Hi,
    how to connect to Oracle 11gR2 64 bit Database from CF9?
    In CF Administrator no Oracle Driver is available.
    Do I have to install Oracle Client Software on Server Hardware where CF9 Server is installed?
    If yes, is Oracle Instant Client is enough or do I have to install full oracle client?
    Any idea?
    regards Claudia

    Excellent, glad to hear it's sorted. Just be careful if you use any of the "advanced" features such as returning querysets from stored procedures or BLOBs, apparently there are differences between the JDBC and full DataDirect drivers in those cases.
    However in 99% of cases you won't notice the difference.

  • How to connect to oracle database from visual basic 2010 express edition

    I have installed visual basic 2010 express edition on windows xp. But visual basic 2010 express edition supports Microsoft sql server database file,Microsoft sql server compact 3.5, Microsoft access database file. I want to connect to oracle database from visual basic 2010 express edition. So what drivers are required and how to do connectivity?

    Hello,
    I wasn't clear on what you were using to make the connection. I had a look in Visual Studio 2010 (don't have express to test sorry).
    I think you mean the Data Sources available under the menu Data-> Datasources. this seems to match the description you give when I
    look at the list of datasource options.
    In here you can make ODBC connections via the Microsoft .net Data Provider .
    If you select ODBC as a datasource you can see listed the DSN's you created - for example I see 2 which use the Oracle ODBC driver.
    This assumes you installed an Oracle Client + the oracle version of the ODBC driver (comes with the oracle client).
    Once you created a server connection then you should see it in the server explorer.
    You can also download the Oracle Developer Tools for Visual Studio which is an add on for VS.
    ** I suspect this is only for VS 2010 and I didn't see that Express was supported.

    Let me know if that helps.

  • Connect to Oracle via WAP

    When I connect to Oracle 8.1.7 in ASP I use following:
    <%
    Set conn = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.connection")
    Conn.Open strOracleCnn
    SQL = "SELECT * FROM MMS.TBruger"
    Set Rs=Conn.Execute(SQL)
    %>
    How to when I connect via WAP ?

    Yes, it works okay in general--I can do a simple select and I get results.  My guess, too, was that it's an ODBC driver issue.
    I was just about to say that I've tried connecting using the Oracle driver with the localhost as the server and one of the tunneled ports as the port--and it hadn't worked.  But I FINALLY figured out that what I thought was the correct SID was NOT the correct SID.  Now that I've got the correct SID, the Oracle driver is working fine this way.
    Thanks a million!

  • Connection to MySQL via ODBC not working

    Hello all together,
    I've got a problem with the ODBC connection to MySQL. The connection via ODBC is established and things like tnsping are working.
    When I select some data within the SQL*Plus environment, I get no real result. For example "select table_name from all_tables@mysql;" returns nothing.
    My entry in listener.ora:
    SID_LIST_LISTENER =
    (SID_LIST =
    (SID_DESC =
    (SID_NAME=odbc_mysql)
    (ORACLE_HOME=D:\oracle\product\11.0.1\db_1)
    (PROGRAM=dg4odbc)
    My entry in tnsnames.ora:
    MYSQL =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = localhost)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA = (SID=odbc_mysql))
    (HS=OK)
    The initodbc_mysql.ora in ORACLE_HOME/hs/admin/:
    HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO = odbc_mysql
    HS_AUTOREGISTER = TRUE
    HS_DB_NAME = hsodbc
    I tried some modifications but I still get no data from mysql database. When I try "select * from customer@mysql;" I get the correct number of records, the correct column names, but the content is always "¬¬¬¬". The odbc driver works, because with MS Access I can fetch the data. I'm using Oracle 11g Release 1 EE and MySQL ODBC 5.1.5.
    What could be the reason for this?
    Greetings,
    Joerg

    created in my UTF-8 Mysql DB your table and inserted a record; the select shows:
    SQL> select * from "movieclass"@mysql;
    idClass
    ClassName
    123
    H e l l o
    As you can see the content is there, the "space" between the letters is related to unicode. Each character is interpreted by 2 bytes and SQL*Plus wrongly displays both. Using iSQLPLus or SQLDeveloper does not show the "space" between the letters.
    Here the data type mapping:
    SQL> desc "movieclass"@mysql;
    Name Null? Type
    idClass NUMBER(3)
    ClassName NOT NULL NVARCHAR2(50)
    What's the exact version of DG4ODBC you're using? 11.1.0.7?
    According to the listener file you're using DG4ODBC on Windows. There was a high/low byte issue in DG4ODBC for Windows. This issue is fixed in 11.1.0.7 and a certain patch. So I recommend you to get first the 11.1.0.7 patchset (if you don't already have it installed):
    6890831 Oracle Database Family: Patchset
    11.1.0.7.0 PATCH SET FOR ORACLE DATABASE SERVER 11.1.0.7.0
    and then please apply also the latest patch:
    8689191 Oracle Database Family: Patch
    ORACLE 11G 11.1.0.7 PATCH 16 BUG FOR WINDOWS 32 BIT 11.1.0.7.0

  • Help connecting to Oracle via ADODB in MS Access 2003

    I'm attempting to use vb within Microsoft Access to return a recordset.
    I can connect, but I when I execute my select statement, I get the following message:
    Run-time error '-2147217865 (80040e37)':
    [Microsoft][ODBC driver for Oracle][Oracle]ORA-00942: table or view does not exist.
    I've doublechecked the tablename in the select statement, and it is good. I've run the select statement directly from Access - using a linked table within Oracle, and it runs fine.
    I'm using Oracle Net Manager 10.2.0.0.0, and my ODBC driver is "Oracle in OraClient10g_home1" My OS is XP SP2
    Here is the connection (details obscured) info I'm using: Note. I don't get the error until I open the recordset.
    strConnect = "Driver={Microsoft ODBC for Oracle};Server=myoradb;Uid=userid;Pwd=pass;"
    sql = "select * from TABLE where SOMETEXTFIELD='sometextvalue'"
    Set conn = CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
    Set rsSizing = CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset")
    conn.open strConnect
    rsSizing.open sql, conn, 3, 1
    Any help would be much appreciated,

    At our College, we have a server with Oracle installed and 33 clients connecting to the Oracle database on the server. This semester, for whatever reason, we're having an issue linking from MS Access 2013 (32-bit) to the Oracle database. We create the link and it seems to work fine after entering username and password (we are using the 32 bit ODBC drivers). However, when we connect, the window that shows the available tables to link to shows no tables. Its' completely blank. We can see the tables through the database side, and the drivers *seem* to be ok . . . has anyone seen this before? We're new to Oracle and are not sure what the problem could be. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
    I know this probably isn't much help, but many years ago I was faced with an issue that sounded somewhat similar.  User department had an Access application.  The .mdb file was on a file server, so everyone in the department was using the same file .. not indivdual copies that could have diverged.  Desktop PC configuration was tightly controlled by IT, so assumed the same for each.  Even though all seemed to connect to the Oracle db, some saw data and other saw "????".  Connection to the Oracle db was via ODBC.  In the end, the only solution we came up with was to configure some users with the Oracle ODBC driver and others with the MS ODBC for Oracle.

  • How to connect from Oracle 11g to SQL Server 2008 R2

    Hi,
    Is it possible to connect from Oracle 11g on AIX to SQL Server 2008 R2? If so, what is the preferred method?
    SQL Server has the original table. From Oracle 11g, we want to access data which is in SQL Server real time.

    Hi,
    Have a look at these Oracle notes for the full information on the gateways -

    The Database Gateway for SQL*Server (DG4MSQL) needs a separate license but the Database Gateway for ODBC (DG4ODBC) is included in your RDBMS license. You only need to provide the third party ODBC driver needed by DG4ODBC.

    I tried connecting to Oracle database ( This is not a local database).
    Navigation used:

    Hi,
    Did you install oracle client on the machine? Can you do "tnsping <SID>"? Can you connect to DB using sqlplus ?
    Try using tnsname for server name.
    Connecting to Microsoft Data Sources Through ODBC Connection  This shows how to connect using ODBC connection. I think this would be more appropriate.

  • How to connect to oracle ebs from an external software

    Hi!
    I want to develop an integration for oracle EBS. Therefor I'm looking for ways how to connect to the EBS and for a repository of functions which can be called from an external program. I'm not quite sure if this is the right place to ask but I could not find anything yet so I'm trying here.
    Are there any standard connectors for the EBS provided by Oracle?

    Oracle Applications Architecture is a framework for multi-tiered, distributed computing that supports Oracle Applications products. In this model, various servers are distributed among multiple levels/tiers as follows:
    - The Desktop Tier --> Web browser with Jinitiator or Sun JRE
    - The Application Tier --> Web, Forms, Reports, Admin, and Concurrent servers
    - The Database Tier --> Oracle Enterprise Edition Database
    The Application tier is the layer which is responsible for:
    - Hosting the various servers that process the business logic
    - Managing communication between the desktop tier and the database tier
    So, in order to connect to the database, you can either access the application tier, or connect directly to the database. I do not think it is possible to communicate with the application services from some other application. Therefore, you would need to connect to the database directly which can be achieved as explained in my previous reply. There is no such API which can be used to open/close a database connection. Oracle E-Business Suite is just a database with number of schemas and objects which are tightly integrated.
    More details about Oracle E-Business Architecture can be found in:

  • Problem remote connection to SQL via ODBC

    Hello, I have a server machine on which I installed the "SQL Server 2008 R2 Express." On the same machine I have configured a connection to the SQL server via ODBC and I developed a VI that uses the "LABSQL ADO function" and it perfectly communicates via ODBC with the database.
    The problem is when I try to connect to the database from a remote PC. Even on the remote PC I configured the connection via ODBC. I launch the same VI I described above, it performs correctly the ADO Connection Open the ADO connection, but the SQL Execute returned an unknown error: -2147217865. It seems that it can not find the table on which I am doing the query.
    Does anyone have any idea? I have no experience with databases and do not know what tests to do.
    Thanks a lot.

    Hi,
    actually the Microsoft error code seems to be related to not-existing table (see here).
    Anyway, this error code may result when trying to use tables with spaces or other special characters ("-", "/", "\", "?" ) in their names.
    Is this true also in the database you are using?
    Could it be an issue with permission levels?
    I hope it helps!
    Bye,
