How to contact a non NI PCI card

Hello:
I’m newbie with LabView and I don’t know how to contact a non NI PCI card. The card is an ultrasound generator card from USULTRATEK with data acquisition capability integrated.
I have read a lot of post regarding to the way of contact with NI PCI devices but what will be the procedure to contact any other PCI device?
I have the PCI card DLL.
Anybody could give me brief explanations or any useful link?
Thank you!

I had similar task but with Spincore PulseBlaster. There few steps that you can do:
  1)   See if there is an examle of C (or other language) program for your card,
anyway be shure that you can control your card from C (or other language).
2) Read Labview help about using DLL, and see an example (there is a nice one, just write "dll" in examples.
3) Be shure that you can create simple DLL that does for example an addition of two numbers.
4)Create final DLL that "talks" with your device, based on the code in 1).
The final step may take some time at the first time (may be few days),but after you do it once,
the next time it takes few minutes to make changes.
   Good luck.
P.S
After you familiar with your device and Labview, you can use Labview to access the dll that supplied with device
directly.Sometimes it's easy,sometimes not.

  • Connecting RTSI line to non-NI PCI card

I would like to trigger analog output on a PCI-6733 and trigger an non-NI PCI card using the GPCTR0 output. It appears I can direct the GPCTR0 output to the UPDATE for AO on the PCI-6733 and do this internally (say using RTSI-1). If I do this I presume that RTSI-1 will also be mirrored on the "external" RTSI bus and avaliable for triggering?
The non-NI card in question as 5V-tolerant LVTTL inputs. Of what points should I be aware as I proceed? As you can tell from my question I am a bit fuzzy on using the RTSI bus.
    Thank You Very Much.

    Hello GLewen,
Thank you for contacting National Instruments.
If I understand your question correctly, I believe you have the right idea. One of the main purposes of the RTSI bus is to facilitate the synchronization of multiple devices. It is also used to internally route signals. Before using the RTSI bus with DAQmx, you will need to register a RTSI cable in MAX (regardless of whether you are actually using a cable).
If you programmatically route the output of GPCTR0 (i.e. pulse train generation) to your AO Update via RTSI 1, you will literally be placing the pulse train generated by the counter on RTSI 1. You can then use RTSI 1 as the trigger source on other devices.
If you are using a non-NI PCI card, it is unlikely that the card is going to hav
e a RTSI connector on it. In this case, you will need to come up with your own method of harnessing the signal.
There are a few points to be aware of are. Although unlikely, any damage caused to your NI card by doing this could void your warranty. Be careful that you do not drive a RTSI line with multiple sources. This could damage your card.
I hope this helps! If you have further questions about the RTSI bus or internal routing, let me know.

  • Console Mode with third-party PCI card w/ open firmware bios,Open Boot Info

PPC macs used open firmware to boot, and their videocards contained forth code in their rom. There are even custom roms for PC video cards which contain code for the PPC mac open firmware.
Could such a card be initialized as the primary display device on an Ultra 5?
I'm betting I'm going to be answered with 'use a sun branded card'. I can't imagine the rom on these cards is so much different than that used on the PPC mac?
What exactly does Open Boot do to find a videocard? Are there any documents on this? I assume it finds some forth routine in the cards rom and runs that to initialize it and identify it's capabilities? Again, I would really appreciate some direction on where to look for docs.
I'm confused on the difference between openfirmware (apparently a spec), and open boot (sun's implementation? Are all implementations compatible with eachother?)
    http://www.openbios.org/Welcome_to_OpenBIOS
"Open Firmware is found on many servers and workstations and there are several commercial implementations from SUN, Firmworks, CodeGen, Apple, IBM and others."
Additionaly, what is the sun4u architecture? sun4v architecture? Which workstations are which? System handbook doesn't seem to say under 'hardware specs'.
So, if all else fails and using a card with an openfirmware rom doesn't help me, how do I go about doing this myself?
I know how to work VGA console mode via the stardard vga registers, Is there a way to get open boot to do exactly what I tell it in terms of registers and addresses?
Can I get an uncompiled form of my Open Boot Prom for my Ultra 5?
All I'm really looking for is good docs/source on how Open Boot/ Open Firmware work, specificly conerning PCI video devices.
    Thanks for any tips.

I haven't looked at anything beyond the OpenBoot level.
I've been neglecting this project for some time.
I just wanted to let anyone else in my situation know that the sun OpenBoot documentation was very helpfull in my sucessfully setting a mode with the card.
I don't know how the OS and later OpenWidows interact with the card, or with the information OpenBoot has about it, and it's current mode.
I hadn't really looked at any of that yet. Though this information will probably show up as soon as I bother to look for it, it'd be nice if some one recommends a specific doc, or has a short answer about the topic.
There happens to be an open source driver for my card, for XFree86 and Xorg, however, I've had enough of a challenge merely using OpenWindows.
    /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/XFree86.conf
Where are simmilar files for OpenWindows? Again, it's probably in some docs I haven't bothered to read yet.
Sparcy: Weird that the card has Fcode and OpenBoot doesn't add it's package to the device tree. I assume it treats it like a non Fcode PCI card? Does it recognize the contents of the PCI base address registers? Try proding it's PCI registers and see if they behave as expected.
If the card is actually working and you can read the expansion rom I don't see why the Fcode didn't work. Maybe it has a later incompatible Fcode revision? Open boot 4.x 5.x? sun4u as opposed to something else? Or maybe the Fcode was designed to lock the card to a certain type of system (I doubt that).
    http://www.sunshack.org/data/bootroms.html
Newer versions of openboot, and new hardware series listed at that link. Where's a more complete list?
Oh well, I guess I should bother to read up on this more thoroughly and finish the job.
Let me know if you find out what the problem was, or if you try that MAC card. Thanks.

  • Labview programming for pci cards

    Hi all,
I need to write a program  in labview that communicates with a pci dio 96 card.
I need to set a bit to 1 (0th port and 5th bit) periodically..
how can I communicate with the pci card from the labview..
is there any driver that we can use for this..
    Thanks,

    Thanks Dennis,
Actually I dont think I have any drivers installed.. Because, I used the tap test interface in MAX to find that I have to trigger the 5th line of 0th port of a pci dio 96 card to trigger my device.
I have downloaded and installed Daqmx that suits my labview version and started exploring the options.
Now, I am struggling hard to figure out how to change my requirement that I have mentioned above into an actual program in labview.
All I have is a pci dio 96 card installed, labview 8.2 and daqmx that supports my labview version. I have to make one of the lines to 1 and 0 alternatively.
Can anyone point to a tutorial or some discussion that could help me kick start.
    Thank you,

Search in the examples\DAQmx\Digital folder inside your LabVIEW installation. There are several examples that should give you enough hints at how to go about that. And if you ever get at other problems there are many many more directories in that example folder. :
And an example finder to help you look for the right examples can be found in the Help menu.

  • How to adjust IRQ for PCI card within BIOS - K7T Turbo

    Hello,
I have a new Diamond firewire external 160 Gb harddisk.
In spite I have upgraded the BIOS for my K7T Turbo board to version 3.6 (by specs at MSI at least I should use version 3.4 to run 160 Gb HD's), I get I/O errors after trying to copy lot of data to the harddisk.  ;( Afterwards I am losing contact to the device and get exclamation marks within the system configuration.
In searching for the errors, it could be the controller of the harddisk itself is not running proper, because I get NO fault by the firewire device within my PC, but just the Diamond controller + harddisk.
To make a last try if I can fix it, I want to give the internal firewire card an own IRQ number. Now with PnP options, many devices are sharing the same IRQ 11.
How can I set a fixed IRQ to the fourth (4e) PCI card within the BIOS?
Looking to the settings it seems I only can manage it when it is an ISA card, but those cards are not used any longer in modern mainboards.
Here are some screendumps of the errors.
    1.
No problems after a hard reboot.
    http://members.chello.nl/~l.obers/MSI/1_reboot_no_error_a.gif
    2. Closer look for the following devices.
The contents of the red boxe within the device system shall disappear after the error.. The blue ones do get exclamation marks
    http://members.chello.nl/~l.obers/MSI/2_reboot_no_error_b.gif
3+4. Error messages after a short while when trying to copy many data (above 4 Gb).
    http://members.chello.nl/~l.obers/MSI/3_Error_message.gif
    http://members.chello.nl/~l.obers/MSI/4_Error_message.gif
    5. Errors within the system configuration.
Input 1 do get an exclamation mark first, afterwards input 2
    http://members.chello.nl/~l.obers/MSI/5_many_data_error_b.gif
The input of the previuos mentioned red box "general volume" (one is of the Diamond controller), is lost.
Within the file explorer also the harddisk volumes are lost.
    6. The log files show a controller error of the disk at IRQ 11
    http://members.chello.nl/~l.obers/MSI/6_system_log.gif
Because no errors are found within the 1394 (firewire) device itself, I guess the problem is the Diamond controller of the harddisk.
But before going to the shop, I want to try to give the HD an own IRQ.
    Regards, Léon Obers

Mmm. I just see some other options.
The device called "1394 CF type II IEEE 1394 SBP2 device is an extrenal firewire Compact flash reader, not a Diamond controller. (It is connected, during the test, but not used for copying files).
In that case, it could be, that the firewire card itself is the troublesome device. First CF-card reader is lost from connection (exclamation mark), afterwards the Firewire harddisk.

Depending on how you created your account, "None" may or may not be an option. I believe it has something to do with whether the account was made through an App Store request or the regular iTunes Store. For example, my account allows no card but my father's doesn't allow there to be no card.
To change the card, go to your account settings and change the information to your new card, and hit save.

  • How do I set up a PCI-DNET card as master with A-B DNI as slave?

I'm trying to communicate with an Allen Bradley PLC through DeviceNet.  I have a NI PCI-DNet card in my computer, and an Allen-Bradley 1761-NET-DNI interface between my PLC and the DeviceNet network.  Does anyone know how to set up my National Instruments card as the Master of my PLC/DNI combination?  Thanks in advance for the help.
    Mark

    Hi Mark:
The PCI-DNET card should set itself up as the master by default.  As a matter of fact it should take more work to get it be the slave than to get it to be the master.  Is this not what you are experiencing?  Is there some sort of Allen-Bradley software that you have installed that is not allowing the NI board to be the master?
The DNET Manual states on page 4-8 that NI-DNET assumes that it is the only master in your DeviceNet system.

  • How to simutaneously use 2 PCI cards, one with traditional DAQ, the other with DAQmx?

    Hi,
I am currently trying to debug a system that used to work.. but sadly isnt anymore
A single computer contains 2 PCI cards (6110 & 6036E). The 6110 card is controlled by a fairly old software, programmed in labview, and hence, using Traditional NI-DAQ. The 6036e card is controlled by a more recent soft, programmed in LV as well but using DAQmx.
the AI/AO of the 6110 card is only momentarily used (20 sec consecutively, every minute) while the 6036E card is continuously receiving and sending data on its AI/AO.
Now the problem: the program that control the 6036E card freezes every time that the old prog access the 6110 card.. and then it works again perfectly until the next time that the 6110 card is used.
So my question: how can I make those 2 cards work simultaneously?
I dont think that it is because of the software nor because of the computer lack of memory/CPU if it used to work in the past. It might be about a wrong configuration of cards in the MAX but I couldnt find anything wrong there (no problem when accessing AI/AO of both cards through "test panel")
Thank you very much for you help.

That's what bugs me. The only thing that those 2 cards share is an AO of the 6110 connected to an AI of the 6036.
For the rest, nothing is common. The 1st program only deal with device1, while the 2nd prog only access dev2. There shouldnt be any problem and everything is working fine separately. Hence, why I was wondering if the traditional daq and daqmx might conflict on a same computer.
I just cant find out why the 2nd program controling the daqmx card just freeze everytime the 1st program access the traditional card. It actually doesnt freeze completly but becomes soooo slow, with about only 2 iterations of the main while loop during those 15-20 sec (instead of the normal 3-4000 iterations during such a period).
The computer specs are a 2.2ghz proc for 1G of ram and running XP, so it should be ok.. even though the computer does slow a bit down when the 1st prog access the traditional card.

I Use Too Use A Redeem Card For My ITunes then I Used A Visa Card how Can I Click None Again For The Payment Style ?

On your computer's iTunes you should be able to edit your payment info by going into the Store > View Account menu option and logging into your account, and on your account's details page there should be a payment link.  If you are doing it on your iPhone then try tapping on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Store (Settings > Store on iOS 5 and below) and select 'View Apple ID' on the popup - that should also give you a payments link on your account's page.

  • HT1918 How do you put none as a payment method once you have put in card details

How do you put none as a payment method once you have put in debit card details ( ios7 )

    Hi again Kiran.
I managed to solve my problem myself and I did it accordingly to the two threads I referred to in my first post. Through the tool "IE Developer Toolbar" I was able to see that the css used in the Top Level Navigation wasn't at all the ones in the par file but a totally different one. So it wasn't strange that the code you provided me with didn't work.
Not sure about modifying that other css I once more looked at the solution of putting a special entry in the theme editor, like the first thread gave a tip about, and this time it worked.
In the theme editor, section Top Level Navigation and there in the attribute fields for background color of selected and unselected tabs, I put the following code:
    ;background: url(/irj/portalapps/com.sap.portal.navigation.toplevel.modified/images/gradient_white_grey.gif)
It also seems like a relative link doesn't work, I tried this one first and had no success:
    ;background: url(../images/gradient_white_grey.gif)
I don't know the reason to why it didn't work the first time with full url but I could think of the following:
    - I had space between "url" and "(/irj/...)".
    - I didn't clear the cluster and local cache under "System Administration > Navigation".
    - I didn't clear the browser cache.
I don't dear to speculate in the most plausible explanation but doing them all isn't that much of a work.
Thanks for your support, full points are given since you led me to the solution.
    Best regards
    Benny
