How to create a PDF from a DOCX without flattening PNG images?

What I want to do is to create a manual that looks like it has its illustrations roughly painted onto parchment.
I've created a .docx document in Word that looks correct - the images in it are PNG files with transperancy around the edges so if a background is put behind them, it looks like it's painted onto that background.
However, when I use Adobe Acrobat 9 to try and convert this to a PDF, all the images in  the  resulting PDF file are flattened and lose their transparency.  This isn't immediately obvious when the page background is left white, but as soon as the background is set to the 'parchment' image, it's obvious that the transparent parts have been flattened into solid white, which naturally looks hideous.
Is there anything I can to do maintain the transperancy of the images in the DOCX document when converting it into PDF?

While I haven't exactly managed to find the answer to my question, I've found a workaround that gives me the look that I want.
Instead of adding the 'parchment' background in Adobe Acrobat, I already add the background (as a Watermark) in the original Word 2010.  Although I think the images still get flattened, they get flattened into the parchment background so it doesn't actually matter.
Solved now!

  • Creating a pdf from a word doc and the image and footer will not show

I am trying to create a pdf from a word doc that has an image and footer. Neither will show in the pdf. Also getting this message "Adobe Acrobat Updater has not been able to check for updates recently. Check online to see if solutions are available from the Adobe website." My Cloud says it is updated.

    What was the Original?
If it was from Word, chances are the top and bottom Margins were set too narrow. (should not be less than .5 inches even more safety 1" would be better). As for graphics. Check in Word preferences (may be called different in a windows machine) make sure in view and Print settings "Graphics" is checked (show Graphics and Print Graphics).

  • How to create lossless PDF from DOCX?

    Hi everyone,
Im currently trying to convert my Diploma´s Thesis to PDF but am having a hard time with the images.
No matter which converter I try, the pictures come out skewed and low quality, just like below:
Not only are the pictures skewed, but the font size is not the same as before. I searched online and fiddled with the dpi setting, but to no avail.
Ive tried Acrobat X as a Word plugin, the "convert to PDF function" of Word 2007 and also cute pdf writer.
I changed the settings for all the above to maximum dpi, maximum picture quality etc...
Could someone please tell me what I could be doing wrong? I cannot think of anything more to try.
Unfortunately I have to use this expensive and bloated "image converter", because this is the only format the book binder will accept.
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi Daniel,
thank you very much for attending to my question.
The images where the picture quality is bad where not stored as images, but instead I did the following:
    Create table in Word
    Make screenshot
    Paste to paint
Trim image to contain only the screenshot of the table
Copy the image directly out of paint and paste it back into word without saving an image.
I think the standard screenshot is in JPG format, but I did not explicitly save an image in JPEG.
I will try and save the screenshots before importing them to word. Maybe that will solve my issue.
    Thanks for your concern,
    Haidenai
I don't understand the purpose of this, but the screenshot is screenresolution, an that's too low. Screenshot is not JPEG but BMP!
If you have Photoshop, you can do a pdf from your word, open in photoshop and render at any resolution you need.
Without photoshop, you could use ghostscript for rendering your picture.

Its not possible to change the name of the file in runtime. As a work around you can modify the name of the file after its created, After action u can get the last created PDF file in the Path and rename it.

  • Create Adobe PDF from Word DOCX Issue

    Good Morning All,
We have stumbled across an apparently well-known issue, which annoyingly for all concerned does not seem to have a satisfying answer.  One rather long discussion is here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4237240.  There is at least one other which also alludes to the issue basically involving Office 2010 SP1 and having the Word user template location re-directed to a network drive.  None of the suggested things have worked, and we do not want to even try the user template location on a local drive, we want a fix for what is really a fairly standard scenario.
I think we have found something new to add to the mix, this is noted later in the post.  For completeness I have also included a condensed version of events/stuff we have tried, to help anybody who reads this and may have an answer.
    Our scenario is as follows:
We recently performed a Microsoft Office 2007 to Office 2010 SP1 upgrade.  A week or so in advance of this we upgraded all those folks that had Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 to X, (v10.0.0).
Within a couple of days of the Office upgrade we had reports of an issue whereby users could not convert Word documents to PDF.  Window title: Create Adobe PDF, message: Unable to open the document <path to file>.  Please check to see if you have permission for the above file.  (The user always does have rights to the location.)
All machines are 32bit Windows 7 and well capable of running this OS and these apps.
Machine patching is maintained by SCCM.
Deployment of Acrobat and Office was done by SCCM.
    The issue broken down:
Conversion of Word documents to PDF fails in these scenarios:
Windows Explorer – right click of single file and ‘Convert to PDF’.
Windows Explorer – right click of multiple files and batch conversion option.
Outlook – Convert to PDF and e-mail.  (Error message is different, apologies I have no note of this to hand.)
It should be noted that conversion of any other file format works, plus conversion of Word documents consistently works inside the Word interface using Adobe toolbar.
Not consistently a user based issue:
It usually * fails for our main test user on her PC.  Although sometimes a single file or batch file conversion will work.  However the option in Outlook never works.  (* Every so often the single file and batch conversion’s do work for the test user, there is no obvious reason as we have not applied any fixes that worked!)
Everything works fine for the test user on my PC and another PC in her department.
Not consistently a machine based issue.
The process always works for me on my machine, but fails most of the time when I use the test users PC.
The process always works for a test account cloned from the test user’s actual account.
Giving local admin rights to the test user did not help.
    Summary of things tried:
Various forum suggestions have not worked:
Deleting/renaming normal.dotm worked initially but the problem returned within a couple of days.
    Registering some Adobe DLL's: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 10.0\PDFMaker\Office\PDFMOfficeAddin.dll & C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 10.0\PDFMaker\Common\AdobePDFMakerX.dll.
The Word Add-in tool bar is enabled.
The users name and intials are present in Word options.
There are no rogue temp files in %temp% or C:\users\<user>\appdata\roaming\microsoft\word.
    Stuff we have tried independently:
Repair Office install then repair Adobe install.
    Patching Acrobat to 10.1.1 & 10.1.4.
Remove and re-install of Acrobat, including patch.
Remove and re-install of Acrobat Pro and Reader, (using the official Adobe labs removal tool), including patch.  (When products were removed Office was repaired.  Just Acrobat Pro X was installed after, no Reader.)
During this work I noticed two files in %temp% which get updated when file conversion is attempted: amt.log and swtag.log.  After Googling these files I found there may be some interesting stuff in amt.log when the process fails.  Unfortunately this has not been the case.  There is no obvious log entry difference between a successful conversion and a failure.
However at this time I started to notice files in %temp% in the following format: cv*.tmp.cvr.  Google revealed these to be Office crash dump files.  Unfortunately these files are always zero bytes long and literally contain nothing to analyse!
So after clearing out all these .cvr files I ran Task Manager, and had %temp% open in a folder.  I then tried the conversion process:
    Firstly it fails!
Secondly a zero byte .cvr file is created and usually disappears right away.
Thirdly winword.exe appears and disappears quickly in Task Manager.
You can repeat this to your heart’s content by hitting the retry button!
The only thing I can add about my PC is that I never had Acrobat until I tried installing it to re-create the issue.  So it may be that my PC having no legacy Adobe install issues, (I only had Reader previously), was less prone to whatever is the root of this issue?  The affected machines in the field have at least been upgraded from v9.
As you can tell we have found it very hard to pin the issue down.  The circumstances for a failure are not consistently repeatable.  I do think the key thing we have noticed though is the obvious crashing of winword.exe when this process fails.  As evidenced by the creation of the cv*.tmp.cvr files and watching the process appear and disappear in Task Manager.  Nothing I have read elsewhere notes this, and it seems to me that winword.exe does not like being called in this way.  This is surely very key to the issue?

I should also add that there are no error messages appearing on screen when we have a failure, and nothing is logged in any Windows event log.
I have done lots more searching since first reporting this.  Lots of people have this issue going back to last year at least with Office 2010 SP1 Acrobat X.  No answers or fixes out there apparently despite being promised to some people who have done a bug report.
This is really not good enough.  I have reported our scenario as a bug report earlier today.  Hopefully I will get a proper fix, then I will gladly pass it on.

  • How to create a PDF from a JSP

Hi , we would like to convert a HTML report generated from a JSP page into a PDF file. Appreciate if anyone has any pointers on how that can be accomplished. Search a google returned some suggestions saying that we would need some 3rd party softwares to get this done . Please let me know if you are aware of any such softwares. Is there a way we can get this done using any of the standard features of Oracle 8i/Oracle 9i lite/Java 1.3
    Thanks Gurus !

I've used iText (http://www.lowagie.com/iText/) in the past to create some really elegant reports. This is not part of OC4J, so you will need to add the library.

  • How to create NEW Pdf from SELECTED pages?! thought this would be so easy!

I am finding it hard to believe how much time I've sunk into trying to figure this out. I thought it would be as simple as me selecting different pages, right clicking, and then finding "new document from selection," or something like that.
I have a PDF with about 300 pages. I have a list of page numbers that I need in a NEW PDF. What is the easiest way to do this? Thanks so much.
    -Eric

I created a tool that does just that (only you will need to enter the page numbers as text, it does not work by selecting them):
    Acrobat -- Extract Non-Sequential Pages: http://try67.blogspot.com/2011/04/acrobat-extract-non-sequential-pages.html

  • How to create a pdf from a psd project

I have a project that I create in Photoshop cs6. I have lots and lots of layers. There are about 21 pages.
I went to Save As Photoshop PDF. When I did this though, it created just 1 page of my 21. What am I missing? Why is it not gabbing all the pages?
    Phillip

    Will In design do that?
No. InDesign is a Desktop Publishing Tool, not Photo Manipulation.
Or would it be necessary to manipulate the photos in Photoshop and then move them into In Design to build the actual pages?
That would be the ideal workflow. I do this and so do most people who work with InDesign.
Will files and work move well from photoshop to In design? In other words will they work together seamlinglessly?
Definitely yes. Both ID and PS are from Adobe and they're built to co-exist with each other seamlessly.
Why dont you try downloading a 30-day trial of InDesign CS6 from here - http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=indesign&loc=en_us
It is very simple to use and easy to understand if you already use Photoshop.
But, one advice - buy InDesign if you're going to do a lot of work on it. If you're going to sparingly use it to achieve something like your original question, I don't see a need for you invest - unless of course you don't mind doing so!
Overall, InDesign is a great tool and I use it in my everyday workflow.

  • How to create a PDF from DWF or Revit with hyperlinks?

DWF file has 20 sheets of engineering drawings.  First 10 are plans with section, detail and elevation callouts.  In DWF I can click on one of these callouts and be brought directly to the detail sheet with the detail on it (one of the second 10 pages in the DWF).  Is there a way to get this to work in PDF format - click on a section mark on plan and automatically go to the page with the section on it.

You could convert all of the sheets to PDF, combine all of them, then use the Link tool to create the callout/page jump effect you're looking for.

  • How to create a pdf file from multiple images ?

    Dear All,
I want to create a SINGLE page pdf file from two or more page size images that are combined to make a single page pdf. Again, this question is on pdfs that are made out of several, atleast  two color images and a black-and-white mask for one of them.
I have such pdf files from an unknown source (the producer is edited out) whereby there are three tiff images, obtained using the well known pdfimages extractor.
When I want to make a pdf out of tiff or png or other image formats, I right click and tell Adobe Acrobat to make a pdf.
However, I dont know how I can give a command to select say,  three tif images and specify which is the mask for which and then join  them in a way that I get the pdf from the composite of the two color images and a mask for one of them.
    Please help me out.
I am a little familiar with the pdf structure skeleton and when necessary, fixed xref tables in one of my favorite editors. A few years ago, I also wrote a bunch of javascripts to make some annotations and needed some automation and used some itext type libraries. However, I need your help in this problem as I am now rusty and forgot some of what I studied to solve my earlier problems. This is a new problem for me. Gentle hints from you would be very nice to help me in this problem. Please specify if necessary what manual and pages to read. in the pdfspec.

Well, just add the few pdf stanzas since you are proficient on it and

Well, ascii format or uncompressed format that is human readable. I
know its a binary file, but human readable ascii version of it.
I hope you can give me some stanza and various other approaches
possible so I can select or combine things for myself. I see only a
miniscule number of posts claiming to have written masks in this forum
    and then with no details.

The system was not my own, it was on a PC belonging to the school where I teach. The error message referred to Acrobat 9.0, so I assume that the problem is to do with the version on which the file was created being more recent than that on which I attempeted to open it.
