How to create sequence based (SERIAL) primary key?

Does anybody know any workaround to modify dictionary table outside Web Dynpro?
I specify default column value in SQL Studio:
ALTER TABLE PB_ORGANIZATION COLUMN ORG_ID ADD DEFAULT SERIAL(1)
Everything is OK, but when I try to insert values in modified table from Web Dinpro EJB application I get the error:
com.sap.engine.services.ejb.exceptions.
BaseReliableNoSuchEntityException: The entity does not
exist in the database. Its value in the cache has to be
refreshed.
It seems WebAS keeps some metadata, generated by Web Dynpro, and manual changes in a database table put it out of sync with this metadata.
I need serial primary keys in my project. Is it possible to solve the above problem?

I'll better send You entire application. It has Web Service frontend (PhoneBook) which can be used for testing. Method createOrganization() throws the exception.
No, this error appears in EJB application only.
BTW, I have even made attempt to replace <default-value>0</default-value> by <default-value>SERIAL(1)</default-value> but it didn't help.

and create a tabular form on this view. You can use
the new column ID as Primary key.Did you try to actually do this? I did at

Read section 4.11.5 of the Fusion Developer's Guide - which has sample code to get the next sequence value from Java without a database trigger.

The key figure you are creating in KE2K is not a value field, i.e. you can't post to it and you can't use it in a report. It is a caluculated value that can be used only in assessment and top-down-distribution.
In Ke2K, enter a name for your key figure, then click on the the white sheet button to create it. Now the formular area is open for input. Input your formular (e.g. VV001 + VV002 - VV003 .... where VVXXX are the technical names of value fields).
Now click the "check formuar"-button. Then save.
Before you can use the key figure in assessment, execute TC KEUG.
Now the key figure is available as any value field in the tracing factor selection of your assessment cycle.
I hope this made it clearer.

Sequences to generate primary keys

Hi,
A question on using sequences to generate primary keys. We have a table and in all environments, test, uat, prod, a sequence exists to generate the primary key for the table. This table is a reference table and is not updateable by the users.
When developing scripts to insert records into the table, the developers are currently not using the sequence but typing in unique numbers so data scripts consist of something like this:
INSERT INTO EMPLOYEE_GROUP
(employee_group_id, code, description,...)
VALUES
(45,'sdf','sdfsdfsf');
INSERT INTO EMPLOYEE_GROUP
(employee_group_id, code, description,...)
VALUES
(46,'sdf','sdfsdfsf',...);
a) Is this normal practice?
b) Sometimes they are using the sequence to generate the primary key in development but then hardcoding the number in the script so in development the sequence might be at 160, but in the other environments the sequences will still be at one. Is this also normal practice?
My usual method in developing scripts is to use <seqeunce>.nextval but it's somewhat incompatitble in the current environment.

You are using a surrogate, or synthetic primary key. For a primary key generated in this way, the value is inconsequential. All that matters is that it is unique and the tables with foreign keys into it, if any, also have that value set properly. But it doesn't matter if the value is 1, 100, 12344, 2222222222, etc. All you care about is the uniqueness.
If you create the data properly then child records and their parents should be correct in all systems you mention, it's just that the actual value of the key will differ and that's fine. You care about the relationship of the records, not the value of the synthetic keys.

Generally Sequence is used in a Trigger to generate some column value automatically. Something like the IDENTITY column used in SQL Server.

Instead of RSA1, use RSD1 to create Characteristics & Key figure.
1. Go to transaction, select radio button for respective info object i mean Char ot key fig.
2. Enter name of the same & click on create transaction.
3. Suppose it will ask for APO or BW then select APO for key fig. so some new functionality come in to key fig. like key fig. fixing etc.
4. always copy new key fig. or characteristics from standard.
5. after creation activate the key figure.
Hope this steps will help you to create Char. & key fig.

Creating a snapshot without primary keys

I would like to create a snapshot for a table that does not have a primary key. I've read the thread
"Re: creating snapshots without a primary key??"
from Mar 24, 2003, which seems to indicate that this is allowed if the snapshot is not updatable. However, even when I disable the "Updatable?" option, I still get the following error:
WTG-20502 Packaging Wizard Failed. 500
CONS-10032: Publication item: WTGPI_10012 cannot
be updatable, primary keys for xyz.abc not found.
BTW, the Oracle9i Lite Developer's Guide for Windows 32 is really thin in this area. In particular, the description of the Updatable feature is the following:
This check box defines the snapshot to be created
as updatable.
That description has a lot of unmet potential.

If you create a snapshot that has no primary key, you have to check the option "complete refresh".
Oracle uses the primary key to track changes for the "partial refresh" option (only send changes back and forth).

Editing or creating a record for primary Key of a table in FORM

Hi,
i have to create a form using 10columns out of a 25column table...
one of the columns of this 10 is PRIMARY KEY.....
in the process of creating the form ...it is asking me for a primary key....when i select a column(out of 10) as primary key , i am not getting that primary key in the form.....
i am a newbie....please send some solutions to add primary key in a form so that it can be inserted or modified....

Hi,
When you create a form, you get a region and several items. If you look at your page definition, you will see these listed - the region will be called whatever name you gave it (eg, "Employee") and the items will be listed as Pnn_EMPNO, Pnn_NAME, Pnn_SALARY and Pnn_DEPT (nn = page number). The Pnn_EMPNO item will be shown as "Hidden and Protected". This means that the field is on the page but the user can not see it nor edit it.
When you create a new record, this field will be empty. When you edit an existing record, this field will contain the EMPNO value for that record. When you save a new record, this field is given a primary key value based on whatever method you specified when you created the form.
If you don't see the Pnn_EMPNO item, then the form has not been created correctly. Do you see this item on your page definition?
