How to decide for a SGA size

Hi,
I m Mohammed , Plz help me for setting SGA size ,
O.S windoes 2003 server
RAM , 16gb
HDD 1TB
for ORACLE 8i and 11g
Thanx

Is this a DSS system or an OLTP system?
Usually, you should leave about 1-1.5Gb free for the operating system, if no other applications are running on the server, the rest can go to Oracle.
What I didn't understand is if you are running two Oracle instances on that server?
Both 8i and 11g?
What is the percentage of activity between the instances and what is the predicted database size?
We'll need more details before we can assist you.

  • How much can go for SGA size in 32-bit Linux OS for 11i

    Dear all,
I am looking for a better solution to my doubt from all the Guru's.
My requirement is that need to get minimum SGA size =10GB for my production system. At present my 11i application server and database running on Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 4 (Nahant Update 2) 2.6.9 42.ELsmp (32-bit) system with SGA size of 2GB with multi-node installation. Now we are planning to move from this old server to another set servers for production system with higher capacity.
Basically my requirement is that, for new server minimum SGA size=10GB in 32-bit linux OS, so please help me out to find the right solution.
    Version details
    RDBMS : 10.2.0.2.0 &

  • How to decide buffer sizes for specific size of RAM

    Hi sdners.
Generally, how can we decide the buffer sizes which are shown in the ST02 screen. suppose we have 100GB ram /5GB ram,  then how can we decide the related buffer sizes...and generally which buffer takes more place in the RAM
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi balaji
You can tune your SAP buffer by the statistics of Hit Ratio and swap occuring.  There should not be no swap on your system. you can adjust your buffer value by the optimizing the both value.

  • How to increase SGA size in Oracle 9i release  9.0.1.1.1

    Hi,
We have Oracle 2000 server on a intel machine (2.8GHz processor and 2 GB RAM). Virtual memory is :- 3GB.
We have a Oracle 9.0.1.1.1 running on this machine. What are the parameters that I need to set to increase the SGA size. We want a large SGA size with enough space for shared pool.
    Thanks in advance.

    Malay,
First Check out the RAM utilization for the OS Kernel and remaining to the applications and then to SGA.
We have Oracle 2000 server on a intel machine (2.8GHz processor and 2 GB RAM). Virtual memory is :- 3GB.I suppose its Windows 2000 Server!!!
& What's the size of the Database?
all these things allow you to decide how "large" you can increase the SGA

  • How can I display total playlist size in iTunes 11.  It used to be visible for each playlist or CD, but I can't find it now.

How can I display total playlist size in iTunes 11.  It used to be visible for each playlist or CD, but I can't find it now.

The Friend: Thanks from me too for that super simple fix!! I feel kinda stupid for not knowing that.
    Too bad Apple didn't:
Give it a more intuitive name than "Status Bar"... "status" is what is shown at the top of the window along with the Artist and Song Title, e.g.; how far into the song/podcast/video I've played and how much is left,
Put the keyboard commands in a more prominent place in their release notes when version 11 came out so we could more easily find the information they decided to hide in this attempt to make the desktop less cluttered and
Allow us the option of displaying the data size along with the song count and duration just beneath the playllist title. The status bar is a redundant listing of information except for the data size!  Poorly conceived!
Perhaps Apple will remedy this in a future release. For those of us who like to burn our playlists to CD, DVD and even a thumb drive this information is essential. WIthout it, we're left to guess whether a given playlist will fit on our target device.
    Thank you!

  • How do you determine the optimal size for Mozilla Firefox?

How do you determine the optimal size for cache in Mozilla
Firefox? I am using Firefox 7.0.1 on a 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate operating system with 3GB RAM and 300 GB hard drive, but I have other computers running Windows XP. If the answer doesn't apply to all current versions of Firefox on all supported Windows operating systems, please explain the differences. Is there a formula for calculating the best cache size?

I found that the best idea is to let Firefox decide that itself.

SGA size on 8i is static , and for increasing the size you have to make the changes in the pfile and bounce the database
First thumb rule is that your SGA should not exceed more than 40% of your PHYSICAL RAM in oracle <= 8i version. You can go around 80% from oracle 9i onwards

  • How to decide the size of MTU when writing an interface ?

I have very little knowledge about network interface. But I want to write a network interface. But I am not getting how the MTU for an interface is decided depending upon the network physical capabilities. Like :
    localhost has 1500 bytes
But this size is not enough for high-speed networks which exist now a days. I am not getting how this size of MTU is actually affecting the network. And how we can find the optimal MTU for any network.

This depends on what exactly do you mean by 'network interface'? Firmware for an NIC? a device driver for an NIC? Or you you mean an application API? And if so, for UDP or TCP?
If UDP, all you need to know is that the practical limit on a datagram that has to go through routers is 534 bytes.
If TCP, you don't have to worry about MTU in the slightest.

  • How to decrease SGA size in oracle 9i

    hi,
how to decrease SGA size .. now SGA size=400m i want to drecrease to 150m
    Thanks,
    Mohammed

Why do you want to do this? Is your system low on memory?
Perhaps your DB is on a laptop with
only a small amount of memory?
Well an enterprise database server set of
thread inside a complex service would need
a high powered laptop with large amounts
    of memory.
Or perhaps your UAT server has 10 databases
on it all competing for resource? The culprit may not be Oracle.
For example (as you have not told us your operating system, windows linux unix?) IBM's AIX unix operating system comes configured optimally for managing file caching in the OS memory; as Oracle also caches the blocks read from disk sometimes the file system caching is redundant and ends up using memory better allocated to Oracle. In that case you tune the Unix kernel to reduce memory allocated to the file system caching. The default settings allow IBM AIX to take up to 80% of system memory for caching bad if you have allocated 40% to the SGA already.........
The really cool thing about AIX is you can do this on the fly and you don't need to reboot so when you go live you juggle until you get an optimal setting and then monitor.
In the end you may just have to add memory.

  • How does one change the font size for folders and/or file lists in the Bookmarks Library?

How does one change the font size for folders and/or file lists in the '''Bookmarks''' Library?
Since the upgrade to version 9.0.1 of Firefox, the Bookmarks feature changes are confusing me. They seem to be confusing themselves as well. The list of bookmarks has changed. The font size is so small that my aging eyes cannot read it without fogging the screen with my breath. Some folders are out of alphabetical order (where I know they were previously good), and some are missing altogether (folders to which I frequently add references).
As for missing or deranged files or folders, was there something that I should have done or now need to do to recover those after the upgrade (or before)?
    With regard to font size,
    1. there is no “Edit Bookmarks” or like option to edit the list in this version
    2. the “zoom” option in the “view” list of functions is greyed out when in “Show All Bookmarks” window
    3. expanding the browser window has no effect on font size
    4. “Preferences” settings for font size has no effect in that window either, including advanced settings
    5. “Help” offers none that I can find.
    Can any of you Help?!?

    Maybe this extension helps:

  • How do you change the default size of the print batch size for mail merge in Publisher 2010?

I appended this question to another thread with the same topic but have not received a reply, so I'll try with a new question. Publisher 2010, when doing mail merge, will only merge and print two records at a time. How do you change the default size of
the print batch size? This is for a 4 page document, 8 1/2 x 11, printed two sides on 11 x 17. I've tried all the suggestions that were in the other thread. The response that was marked as the answer by the moderator is incorrect and does not work. Nothing
suggested in that thread works. A registry fix that worked for Publisher 2003 won't work because the print batch size key does not exist in the registry for Pub 2010. At least not that I can find. Printing to an XPS document doesn't work. It asks for a filename,
prints 2 records, asks for new file name, prints 2 records, asks for new file name, and so on. The same for printing to a PDF document. Merging to a new Pub document doesn't work. When I print that job every other sheet is turned over. I.e., sheet one has
pages 1 & 3 on top, next sheet has 3 & 4 on top, and so on. This makes it impossible to run them through the folder. The same thing happens when I print that complete merged document to XPS or PDF. I have the latest drivers installed for our printer, a Toshiba
2500C copier/printer connected via network. What do I need to do to to change the batch size to something reasonable, like 100 records?

It's been two weeks since I posted this question. What does it take to get an answer? I cannot believe it's being ignored, nor can I believe that someone in MS doesn't have an answer.

  • How do you increase the font size to bigger than 24, using the typewriter tool in Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 for Mac?

How do you increase the font size to bigger than 24, using the typewriter tool in Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 for Mac?   Often I just want to label an item on a map that is in PDF and want to use a simple label rather than a Text Box for labeling, but have yet to find a way to increase the font size beyond 24.   Can someone help me with this? - JML
