How to design inside OWB

My question is about design inside OWB. We are implemeting OWB for the first time along with Cognos. We have around 20 tables (datasource) which are used in cognos to report. This 20 target tables are built in OWB from sources in mainframe.
We bring all required tables from mainframe and to some tranformations and load into this target tables.
Now my question is how this tables should be placed in OWB.
should we put all tables in the same module under project
or each have diffrent module.
what is the general practise. Do we have only one location or different locations for each files.
We have seperate server where we created mappings in owb. How do we take all this mappings to production server. Do we have to export. How do we change the locations .
Is there any documentation for best practices. Any help will be greatly apreciated

Tables
The general practice would be to have one module for design area. For example, in general DWH terminalogy, one can end up to have 1 module for Staging, 1 for Data Marts. As you are talking about 20 tables I think you can go with one module for all the tables, rather than creating 1 for each table.
Files
If all of your files are located under the same directory structure ( either in Unix or Windows) you need only one Location. If the files are in different directories then you should have multiple locations. The usual practice is to break-up the files according to business area. In that way you will not end up with too many locations and also you can segregate the files.
Dev to Prod
For deploying owb mappings onto Test or Prod, you need to create an MDL file by using OWB Exort Utility and then Import into the relevant area. The locations need to be re-registered using the new server credentials. The way we have achieved is to create collections for non Mapping objects( ie source modules / file definitions / locations ), export the collections and imported, re-registered the locations. For mappings we created an MDL file , expoted and imported into relevant areas.

Dear Gurus,
I have Oracle Warehouse Builder 11g which I get from my colleague,
I got problem when going to login, my colleague has give me the user name but he also forgot the password.
How I can know where is file/folder/etc to keep information about OWB user name?
because the user name which my colleague give not exist in schema database.
I want to reset password, but if it must create new user can we see the previous mapping inside OWB?

From a Technical Architect point of view, how to design a web application?

Hi to all,
I am writing this issue here because I this question is not related on how to program, but on how to design a web application. That is, this question is not related to how to program with the technologies in J2EE, but how to use them correctly to achieve a desired outcome.
Basically I know how to develop a simple web application. I like to use SpringFramework with AcegiSecurity and Hibernate Framework to persist my data. I usually use JBoss to deploy my web applications, however I could easily use Tomcat or Jetty (Since I am not using EJB�s).
However I have no idea on how to develop (or a better word would be �design�) a website which is divided into different modules.
Usually when you develop a website, you have certain areas that are public, and other areas that are not. For example, a company would want anyone on the Internet to download information about the products they are selling, however they would only want their employees to download certain restricted information.
Personally I try to categorise this scenario in to common words; Extranet and Intranet.
But � (and here starts the confusion in my mind) should I treat these two as two projects, or as one project? The content to be displayed on the Extranet is much different then the content to be displayed on the Intranet and definitely clients should not be allowed to the Intranet.
First approach would be to treat them as the same project. This would be perfect, since if the company (one day) decides to change the layout of the website, then the design would change for both the Intranet and the Extranet version. Also the system has a common login screen, that is I would only need to have employees to have a certain Role so that they have access to the intranet, while clients would not have a certain Role and thus they would not be allowed in. But what about performance and scalability? What if the Intranet and Extranet have to be deployed on the different Hardware!?
The second approach is to threat them as two separate projects. To keep the same layout you just copy & paste the layout from one project to another. However we would not want to have two different databases to store our users, one for the employees and the other one for the clients. Therefore we would build a CAS server for authentication purposes. Both the Intranet and the Extranet would use the same CAS server to login however they could be deployed on different hardware. However what if we want to change the design. Do we really want to have to just copy and paste elements from one project to another? We all know how these things finish! �We do not have time for that � just change the Extranet and leave the Intranet as it is!�
The third approach (and this is the one I like most) is to have a single project built into different WAR files. The common elements would be placed in all WAR files. However in development you would only need to change once and the effects would show in the different war files. The problem with this approach is that the project will be very big. Also, you will still need to define configuration files for each one of them (2 Web.config, 2 Spring-Servlet.config, 2 acegi-security.config, etc).
Basically I would like something in the middle of approach 2 and approach 3! However I can identify what this approach is. Also I can not understand if there is even a better approach then these three! I always keep in mind that there can always be more then two modules (that is not only Intranet and Extranet).
Anyways, it is already too long this post. Any comments are more then welcome and appreciated.

First of all thanks for the interest shown and for the replies. I do know what MVC or Multi-layered design is and I develop all my websites in that way.
Basically I have read a lot of books about Domain-Driven Design. I divide my web applications into 4 layers. The first layer is the presentation layer. Then I have the Facade layer and after that I have a Service layer (Sometimes I join these two together if the web application is small enough). Finally I have the Data Access layer where lately I use Hibernate to persist my object in the database.
I do not have problems to understand how layering a web application works and why it is required. My problem is how to design and develop web applications with different concerns that use same resources. Let me give an example:
Imagine a Supermarket. The owner of the Supermarket want to sell products from the website, however he wants to also be able to insert new products from the website itself. This means that we have two different websites that make use of the same resources.
The first website is for the Supermarket clients. The clients can create an account. Then they can view products and order them. From the above description we can see that in our domain model we will have definitely an object Account and an object Product (I am not mentioning all of them). In the Data Access layer we will have repository objects that will be used to persist the Account and Products.
The second website is for the Supermarket employees. The employees still need to have an account. Also there is still a product object. This means that Account and Product objects are common to the two websites.
Also important to mention is the style (CSS). The Supermarket owner would like to have the same style for both websites.
Now I would not like to just copy & paste the objects and elements that are common to both websites into the two different projects since this would mean that I have to always repeat the changes I make in one website, inside the other one.
Having a single WAR file with both websites is not an option either because I would not like to have to deploy both websites on the same server because of performance and scalability issues.
Basically so far I have tought of putting the common elements in a Jar File which would be found on the two different servers. However I am not sure if this is the best approach.
As you can see my problem is not about layering. I know what layering is and agree with both of you on its importance.
My question is: What is the best approach to have the same resources available for different websites? This includes Class Files, CSS Files, JavaScript Files, etc.

How to design templates with Microsoft Excel

When creating a new template in EBS, we have "Microsoft Excel" as one of the the template types (just like RTF). How to design the template if Excel is selected as the template type. I uploaded a blank EXCEL file and the concurrent program errors out with "Excel Processing" exception.

r u uploading the blank excel..r the excel u got from the Analyzer for Excel from the BIpublisher.
One small clarification on my previous post..like the .xdo not the excel name.Inside the excel it is the sheet name.
If u uploading the excel that u got from the Analyzer for excel means it should work.
Plz select the template type as Excel after uploading the template.

Could you pls help me how to design a form with multiple languages. when I set the form proprties-->Form Locale as Arabic. English text is comming in reverse and when set the FormLocale as English, Arabic text is comming in revese.

I am not sure how you can have two different languages inside the same PDF.
Alternatively, if you want to place only the static labels, you can convert all the static label in one language to images and set the form language setting to other. And place the images inside the form using Image field. For example, you can keep the form language as English and then convert all the arabic language labels/ Static text to images.
Anotherway,
Have same sections in both the languages and hide and unhide based on the user selection of the language..
if your user chooses Arabic, then you can unhide the Arabic sections and change the form language properties programmatically..

Have a main view with 3 viewcontainer ui elements. Have 3 more views, with each control in the view. Have 3 attributes defined in a node of the component controller, one each for the tree selection, ALV selection and button enabling. All these attributes will be of type char01. Map the component controller node to all your view nodes.
In the click event of the tree, set the first attribute. In the click event of the ALV, set the second attribute. In the wddoinit of the 3rd view, do a get_attribute to see if both the previous attributes are 'X'. Then do a set_attribute of the 3rd one. Bind the 3rd attribute to the 'Enabled' property of the button. By default it will be greyed out.
But why do you need each control in a separate view? You could very well place them in transparent containers or some other element inside the same view right? From your description, I dont really see a need for separate views.

You may design and load whatever db model you want to.
But If you set a unique key, you may find some integrity issues. I wouldn't do a many to many relationship between facts and dimensions. This could cause you lots of headaches when users start to submit queries using this tables. You'll probably face performance issues.

How to design an iPhone app that uses both Portrait and Landscape in Flash CS6

So I have created an App that has a different menu when it is held portrait, but changes when held landscape. I can get the navigation to work, However I am unsure how to design landscape pages inside Flash?
My stage is set to the standard 640x960 air for iOS, which gives me perfect portrait pages, But when I tilt my phone to landscape the screen obviously changes, and it looks weird. Im hoping someone can tell me how i can get this view inside Flash, while still having the portrait screens too?
I want to have both Portrait and Landscape in the same app, and am currently so confused how I can design this inside flash?
I hope this makes sense, and that someone could throw some help my way!

you can change the display depending on stage orientation but it doesn't make sense to "..swap the stage orientation between screens".

How to design multiple file polling BPEL process?

Hi all,
I am trying to solve/design the following in BPEL process:
- The integration process flow I am trying to design is an interaction b/n system A (FTP server), an Integration platform and system B.
- The integration platform will poll files from an internal FTP server. It has 2 Time files (“Time1” and “Time2”) alternatives to poll from the FTP server. It will then transform the message/information inside the files (time information) to an internal XML format. At the end it shall send the message to system B.
- The information inside the files is identical. The reason to have 2 files with identical information is for redundancy. The integration-platform shall only poll file “TIME1” as long as the conditions are met. If the conditions are not met, then it polls file “Time2”.
Normal succeeded scenario:
1- The integration platform polls the latest “Time1” file from the internal FTP server. The polling is done every 15th minute.
2- The integration platform logs to BAM and reports that the file is received.
3- The platform then converts the message to an internal format.
4- The platform sends the converted message/time information to system B.
5 - The use-case ends.
Not normal scenario:
1- The platform cannot get/receive file “Time1” file.
- The platform logs to BAM and reports that the file could not be received.
- The platform polls file “Time2” from the FTP server and it does the same normal scenario as above. The use case ends.
2 - Time message/information from the Time1 file has not full information (less than 24 rows). The file is supposed to have 24 rows (for 24 hours).
- The platform logs to BAM and reports that there is missing information on the message.
- The platform gets/polls instead the “Time2” file from the FTP server and it does the normal scenario.
- The use case ends.
3- The platform can find/get neither file “Time1” nor “Time2”.
- The platform alarms to BAM that it could not get/find the files.
** I am considering either the pick activity or the switch activity solution. Does any one of you have an idea how to design this in oracle BPEL process?

Not sure I understand your use case completly so if I'm off track I apploigise.
I think there are 3 ways to solve this. The 3rd may be closest to what you are looking for.
1. Have 2 processes that read into a common area, e.g. database where you can compare. From there you can choose which file to pick. This is high leve but I think this would be dificult to implement.
2. Implement a combination of a rejectedMessage handler and error processing witn the BPEL process itself. The rejecte message handler can call another BPEL process if the time1 file is in a invalid state. This process will then read the time2 file. The issue with this is that the rejecte message handler will only get invoked when the file doesn't conform to the schema.
3. Use the quarts scheduler whcih invokes a BPEL process every 15 miniutes. Using the file adapter to perform a synchronous read to read time1, analyse it, if it fails read time2 using synchronous read. Then perform the approprate action id this fails.
hope this give some ideas.

if u want the current date u go for the customer exit (that means daily)if he wants aparticular date then u go for the user entry variable in 0calday,in variable screen he sould mention the date for that date only the out standing report will come .0calday and customer u keep in rows and those debit and credit u keep in the columns.
if daily as on date they want outstanding u go for the customer exit just u create the variable on 0calday with customer exit if variable name is 'zcedate' go to the tcode CMOD and write the below mention code.
when 'zcedate'.
clear l_s_range.
l_s_range-sign = 'i'.
l_s_range-opt = 'eq'.
l_s_range-low = sy-datum.
append l_s_range to e_t_range.

Due to my diplom thesys I have to create a real 3D (not 2 1/2D) database in Oracle. You seem to have a little experience in this subject and I hope you can tell me whether my plan is possible or not...
The data I'd like to store in the database is/are BRep, means a 3D-Objekt composed of many coplanar 2D-planes. I think storing the data won't be the problem because I can store the vertices of the 2d-polygons with x,y,z values. The queries will be the main problem. I have to query all types of intersection, neighborhood and some distance between the objects.
I know, SDO_RELATE is the only filter which supports three dimensions, but there's something I don't understand:In the spatial user's guide it says:
"the SDO_RELATE operator, can be used to determine with certainty if objects interact spatially".
WHAT does this mean in case of 3D? True if the two objects intersect, false if not?

With JSF in general (and ADF Faces too), you should not think in terms of HTML output, but in terms of JSF components. ADF has an af:table component that renders things in rows-and-columns, but emits HTML that is much more complex than just a simple HTML table.
