How to detect loged in user

Hi All,
I have a scenario like this,
i have a global report in which some branch codes are available.
once the end user logged into the system,i want to restrict the report details according to his branch code.
ex: report details (name,age,address,salary,branch)
one user login --> branch code is (COL)
he/she should not be able to view the report details which are related to other branches.
is there any way to do this using Apex...??? or do i need to handle this through the query...???
if i need to handle this through a query then i have to detect the login session clearly like login user name.
Then i can use the name and get the branch code from the login table and pass to the query..i guess im correct ;)
is this possible to detect the user login name and bring it to a sql query ????
ex: login name say MAX branch COL
select * from TABLE_SAMPLE where branch_code=(select branch_code from USER where uname='MAX'; );
can anybody give me a hand on this regard.plss..???
Thanks,
Max

he/she should not be able to view the report details which are related to other branches. This is known as Fine Grained Access Control (FGAC).
is there any way to do this using Apex...??? or do i need to handle this through the query...???Both. The best approach is to use Virtual Private Database (VPD), utilizing APEX's built-in VPD security attribute to set the context.
VPD requires an Enterprise Edition database. In other editions a similar approach can be developed using parameterized views, again setting the context through the APEX VPD security attribute.

Use the <tt>APP_USER</tt> built-in substitution string to get the ID of the authenticated user:
select * from TABLE_SAMPLE where branch_code=(select branch_code from USER where uname= :app_user);

  • How to detect if a user has changed a record using a custom method?

I am in the process of developing a test case application using ADF JSF and a collection of Java objects that are not populated by a database.
Details of what I have developed so far can be found on this post:
how to create a new record using a custom method?
Is it possible to detect if a user has changed the value(s) of a record?
I have set the edit page up (as described in the other post) and this works fine, but how could I tell if the user has changed something on that record. This is what I would like to do, but am not sure how to achieve it or whether it is possible....
when the user puts a record in edit mode, take a copy of that record
then when the user presses save or exit to navigate away from the edit page do a comparison between the original values and the potentially changed ones
then depending on the outcome of the comparison call an appropriate action
Thanks in advance for your help
    David

If you just want to know if the value has changed you can put it in a while loop and use shift registers to see if the value has changed.

  • How to detect if the user is using SSL

    I use weblogic 5.1 sp6and NES 4.1. Netscape plug-in connects them together.
I also install the verisign certificate on the NES 4.1.
I want my JSP code to detect if the user is using http or https to visit my

and getServerPort will return 80, even when the user is using https:// . I
guess the reason is when the NES forwards the request to the weblogic, it is
    not using https.
Then how can I detect the protocol the user is using? I use getHeaderNames()
method to print out all the infomration in the HEADER. However, I find that
it only includes client header information. Is it true that NES plug-in only
fowards part of the HEADER information to the weblogic server?

  • How to detect the idle user????

    Hi all....
I wanna write a program(servlet or jsp) to detect the user's idle time(do not action from sometime). But I have no idea.Could someone give me a suggestion???
    thanx alot....

you question is not very detailed, so i just can give you a rough answer: create a session upon a users first request. With a session the lastrequest time is stored, so you may call the getlastaccesstime methode (not sure whether this the right spelling, check the servlet api docu)to get the last access time. the difference between the current time and the last access time is the idle time.
but, normaly idle in application terms doesn't mean the time between two request but the time between two user actions! often there is system communication between server and client that should not count for user idle time. so you might need to set you own lastACTIONtime as a session value.
For more information about servlets and jsp check out www.coreservlets.com (there is a very useful pdf for free download!)

    Thanks so much

well if you are using the MCL you can set up a function to

stick a default image in it's place. read up on the moviecliploader

Wrote an article on this with code samples (Javascript + HTML) - basically there are differences between IE and other browsers. Chrome natively comes with the Chrome PDF Viewer so I've incorporated that in my detection script.

  • How to detect how many LOV values user selects on a WEBI Prompt

    Hello Gurus,
Is there a way to identify how many LOV Values the user selects on a Webi prompt that allows multiple value selection?
For EG: If I have a webi and there's a prompt called State on the WEBI and the user selects "Utah", "Ohio" and "Texas" from the LOV and runs the query; is there a formula I can use to get the value as 3 (no.of selections)? If that's not possible, is there a way to find out if the user has selected more than 1 value?
    Thanks,
    RC

    Hello,
From what I know there is no direct way of figuring it out. But here is a little trick.
Create a variable to capture the user response. Lets call it - State Prompt
It should display the values like this: Utah;Ohio;Texas
Next, get the length of the response string by using the length function.
=Length([State Prompt]). It should give you 15 in our above example.
Now, create another variable [let's call it - Replaced State Prompt] where you use Replace function, to replace/remove the ";" from the response string.
    =Replace([State Prompt];";";"")
Next, get the new length of the new response string by using the length function.
=Length([Replaced State Prompt]). It should give you 13 as it removed two ";".
Now, do a subtraction and add 1 to get the count.
Overall it should be something like this-
    =Length(UserResponse("Enter State")) - Length(Replace(UserResponse("Enter State");";";""))+1
    Hope this helps.

  • How Can I Detect Whether the User's Firefox Supports MHTML?

Is there a browser capability property that I could look at to detect whether the user's version of Firefox (including, for instance, an "unMHT" add-on) supports MHTML? Currently we provide reports to our users in this format and want to provide a link to add-on's in case the user cannot actually view the format; but show the report if the add-on or capability is present.

Sorry, you can't detect if a user has unMHT installed.
Have you tested your MHTML files with Firefox and unMHT? <br />
MHTML was never adopted as an official standard by W3C - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MHTML - and from my limited usage of unMHT, it isn't exactly the same as what MS uses with IE. I have had problems displaying a file saved in one browser in another brand browser, and don't remember the specifics beyond IE8 won't correctly display unMHT files even when the file extension is changed from MHT to MHTML. Plus there's a 2nd add-on / extension - Mozilla Archive Format - that some users may have installed for MHTML files.

  • How to detect the path of Temp directory

I am writing a class library which allows users to manipulate a database in the web server java applications/applets. In my logic the Application/Applet communicate with a CGI script/Servlet in the server and that do all the database handling. My objective is to make the Client independant from the Database Drivers, and to some restrictions and possible security threats that can arrice when accessing the database directly.
99% of the work is done and now I am doing the fine tuning.
    My Problem:
When the user downloading a blob object from the server database. each time the program read the blob it will get a new copy from the server. This is not good if the blob is large (few 100 megs) . So I am going to implement a cache system. but the problem is If I am caching in the memory it will not support large objects (Memory is a limited factor). So the preferance is use the Temperary files but I do not know how to detect the path to temperary folder.
And my 2nd questions is are the applets allowed to write and read in temperary folder.

The Java default temporary file path can be determined with
System.getProperty("java.io.tmpdir")This is typically the same value as the os environment variable

  • How do I make a user to update to the current flash player

I was able to gather info on how to test and display users OS and FP version. However this info is "dormant" it is just being displayed on the screen.
Does anyone know how to make an alert message to upgrade to the current Flash Player if a user runs the lower version?
If the version is as intended then no message should come up.

Check out SWFObject - it can detect the version and, if need be, prompt the user with an express installer that lets them upgrade the player without even leaving your page.

  • ANSWER: HOW TO DETECT Java Plugin from JavaScript

I created a new topic because the questions about
how to detect Java Plugin in browsers are scattered
    thoughout this forum.
Basically you need to employ two approaches for IE and NS.
In IE you need to try to instantiate a small applet
(not your production applet) in order to see if browser
can do it. if the browser can do it, you can make a
call applet from JavaScript in order to find version of
JRE (as well as a host of other things).
In NS you can write a simple JavaScript which will
interrogate the browser for all plugins installed. Then
ypu can make a desicion whether to pass execution to
the next(or generated) page which hosts your applet,
or ask the user to download/install a plugin.
I ecourage everybody to host a plugin on your site
rather leave default link to it which is generated by
    html converter.
    In order to run sample,
    Prerequisites:
    Java Plugin 1.3.
If you have a different version of plugin,
substitute hardcoded plugin version in JavaScript for
    value that you have.
    1. compile java file
    2. put class file in the same directory with html file
    3. load html file into the browser.
    4. press "Check Java Plugin.." button
    5. see it work
    6. examine code
    7. uninstall plugin
    8. repeat steps 1 - 4
    9. see it work
    10. install plugin.
    Sample code follows:
    **********************HTML FILE BEGIN***********
    <HTML>
    <HEAD>
<!-- Generated by Kawa IDE -->
