How to determine whether a file doesn't exist or doesn't have enough perms

Hello everone,
I am stuck in determining whether a file does not exist or does not have enough permissions so that access to this file is denied?". I am using
java.io.File.exists() or java.io.File.canRead() methods to check this but both of them just return false in both above mentioned cases.
In the documentation however its mentioned that these method throw SecurityException - If a security manager exists and its SecurityManager.checkRead(java.lang.String) method denies read access to the file. But then problem is to write a security manager which denies
read access if the file does not have permissions so that exception can the thrown.
Any suggestions or pointers will be highly appreciated.
Thank You.
Regards,
Vikash Kumar

Some platforms will let you rename or remove an open
file.Unless those platforms support file locking, and the file has a lock on it.

  • How to know whether the file is opened or not

    Hi All,
    In the file handling,
Before writing OPEN DATA SET, I want to know the file is already opened or not.
Please help me out in this regard.
    Thanks and regards,
    Mallareddy

    Hi,
    Please try GET DATASET statement.
    Syntax:
    GET DATASET dsn.
    Extras:
    1. ... POSITION pos
    2. ... ATTRIBUTES attr
In some cases, the syntax rules that apply to Unicode programs are different than those for non-Unicode programs. For details, see File Interface.
    Effect
Used to get the properties of a file already open.
You can use this statement without additions to determine whether the file is open.
If the file is not open, an exception of the type CX_SY_FILE_OPEN_MODE is triggered.

  • How to check Whether the File is in Progress or used by some other resource

    Hi All,
I am retrieving a file from the FTP server using Apache commons FTP.
I need to check whether the file is fully retrieved or in progress.
for now i can able to use the file which is partially retrieved. it is not throwing any file sharing exception or i am unable to find whether it is in progress.
How to check whether the file is in progress ? or The file is accessed by some other resource ?
    Pls Help me.
    Thanks,
    J.Kathir

    Hi Vamsi,
Explicitly such kind of requirement has not been catered and i dont think you would face a problem because any application that is writing to a file will open the file in the read only mode to any other simultaneous applications so i think your concerns although valid are already taken care off .
In the remote case you still face a problem then as a work around. Tell the FTP administrator to set the property to maximum connections that can be made to ftp as one. I wonder if you have heard of the concept of FTP handle , basically the above workaround is based on that concept itself. This way only one application will be able to write.
The file adapter will wait for its turn and then write the files.

  • How do I attach a file to an existing email?

On the ipad 3 or any ipad, how do you attach a file to an existing email?

    @ adobe-admin (J.C.?):
Thanks for fixing the "backslash" error. Accuracy is important, and doubly so when presented as an F.A.Q.
The sad thing is how prevalent the usage of "backslash" is when a plain old slash is meant (generally, the "forward" attribute is assumed and unneeded), and by people who should know better. It's a direct result of people knowing just barely enough about the Windows file path naming protocols, and then applying the only terminology they're familiar with incorrectly to URLs.
I went about 10 rounds—TWICE!—with a labyrinthian succession of people at the Discovery & History cable TV networks because they were saying "backslash" in voice overs whenever their commercials promoted their websites. It took some doing, but I finally got in touch with somebody who was savvy enough to recognize that it was a rookie mistake made by a clueless marketing copywriter. The voice over person just read the copy they were given, oblivious to the difference. It amazes me that it wasn't caught by somebody early in the recording/production process and rectified.
They then had it correct for about a year, until new commercials started popping up with the same error. Unfortunately, the person I had talked to previously no longer worked for the History channel and I had to go through the process of finding someone who understood all over again.
Yeah, you can call me a nitpicker with nothing better to do.
But I've earned that dang badge, and I wear it proudly!

  • Error when opening indd-file: Either the file does not exist, you do not have permission, or the...

Hi! I'm having trouble opening a indd-file. It was sent to me as a zip-fil along with the used fonts and links. When I try to open the file, I'm getting this error: "Either the file does not exist, you do not have permission, or the file may be in use by another application". I've tried to look up this error both here in these forums and through google, but can't find a similar case. Hope someone can help me with this. Please let me know if you need more information/details, and I'll provide. Thanks!

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
I'm suspecting it to come from a mac user, if that could influence the case...
It does come from a Mac, as is proven by the fonts, which are of no use on my Windows machine, but that doesn't prevent my CS4 to open it without any problem. It seems to me it's a perfectly regular CS2 file.
Just for cheers I set the file to Read-only, but my InDesign opens it regardless (again as a copy, because it's a "converted" file).
Could it be something in your environment? No network read/write privileges, insufficient free hard disk space, stuff like that?

  • Error trying to relate tables "...either doesn't exist or doesn't have a relationship to any table available in the current context"

    I have two tables;
The first is my Order table which has a single row for each unique order - there are no duplicate order numbers. The order id column here is called
    OrderID.
The second is my Submissions table which is similar to a transactions table, there are multiple submissions for every order. This table also contains an
OrderID column that contains the relevant OrderID.
The submission table also contains a calculated field called Date and a calculated field called
MaxDate field which is the date of the most recent submission that relates to any particular order in cases where there are multipple.
My goal is to add a column to the Order table this MaxDate column. The reason for duplicating the information rather than linking the tables is because I need to create more calculated columns in the
Orders table based on this value.
I have created a relationship between the two tables however when I use:
    =RELATED(Submissions[MaxDate]
    I get this error:
"...either doesn't exist or doesn't have a relationship to any table available in the current context"
I don't really understand why this would be, because MaxDate definitely exists and contains only numerical values. What is more strange is that if I try and combine the data through a pivot table it actually works! I can create a pivot with OrderID in the first
column and then associate it with MaxDate from the Submissions
    table as the value.
Can anyone help me understand what is the problem here?
P.S. if it is useful the formula I'm using to calculate the MaxDate is:
    =MAXX(FILTER(Submissions,Submissions[OrderID] = EARLIER(Submissions[OrderID])),[Date])
    Thanks.

Maracles, is this still an issue?

  • "The iTunes library file cannot be saved. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation."

keep getting       '' the itunes library file cannot be saved. you do not have enough access privledges''  when ever i try to add or change my library, why? have tried  several suggestions on the internet to stop this from happening but with no success. i am running windows 7. has started happening since installing new security software. would this have anything to do with this problem? any suggestions

The location of the iTunes Library file may be read-only or owned by a different user.
    Default locations:
    XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<login>\My Documents\My Music\iTunes
    Vista: C:\Users\<login>\Music\iTunes
    Windows 7: C:\Users\My Music\itunes
Right click the iTunes folder and choose Properties
Look at the Attributes and see if Read-Only is checked.
Uncheck it and click OK, at the apply to all subfolders and files prompt, make sure all subfolders and files is selected and click OK.
If your iTunes library saves now you are done.
If it does not you will need to try on each directory above the iTunes directory.
Of course if you are not using the default locations you'll have to alter the path to the one you find in iTunes Edit->Preferences, Advanced tab.
