How to develop for latest Safari if I'm a on a Windows PC

Hey there,
I'm working for a small team of web developers. Because we are yet that small there is no financial backup to replace every machine here with Macs (that are presumable strong enough to run huge PSDs in parallel and so on).
Due the fact Apple stopped updating Safari on Windows a while ago, we are about to drop support for the whole Safari branch because we can't make sure everything is running fine with the latest versions (at least it's very time intense atm). We're working with cutting edge API's e.g. websockets, canvas, local files etc. and it becomes more and more difficult to asure our customer that we may support the latest Safari with all that features they are asking for.
Of course we could have some more test machines to find out if everything is working as intended but if these are blocked (like it's currently the case with these two we got) the others have to wait to finish their tasks/fixings, thus making it almost impossible to do that in an agile way.
The more Blink seperates from Webkit the more we have problems keeping up with both of them because we can just test it most of the time against the already oldfashioned 5.17 that even yet lacks some features or needs work-arounds for it. Of course we have similiar problems with other browsers but we are able to run them at their latest versions on windows so there is no back pressure like it is with Safari 7 now.
What is Apples advise on dealing with that problem for us windows devs? Some of us are not even likely to switch to a Mac in a near future because of personal preferences.
Regards

Apple is not on this forum and I suspect they would not provide advice.
My personal opinion is that your development process needs to test your product on every browser and version which you claim your product supports. The expense of tools required to do this (such as the appropriate hardware and operating systems) is usually a small fraction of the labor cost. Your company should perform a cost/benefit analysis and determine which browsers/versions it is cost effective to support. If few customers use Safari, it is logical to abandon it.
Important: Just because your product doesn't support a specific browser/version, doesn't mean your product won't work. It just means that a customer cannot open a support ticket against that browser/version.

As I understand the Mac App Store, that sort is already done for you in Features. The first category on the Features page is New and Noteworthy, with the link to See All.

  • Latest Safari not working on Snow Leopard or Windows XP

I just updated to lastest version of Safari for Windows, on my work machine running Windows XP SP3, and it will open up and freeze.  The previous version ran just fine!
Then I come home to find that the lastets version of Safari (5.1) on my iMac running 10.6.8 won't run either!?  The symptom on this machine is that Safari does not think I'm connected to the internet, and it offers up the Network diagnostics....which says everything is fine.  And it is, because I'm posting this via Firefox that is working just fine.
So what gives?  I got both versions via Software update....is there somthing wrong with the latest downloads?

Check another browser, download Firefox or Chrome

  • NEWBIE SOA Question:Appl Development for SOA

This question may have been answered elsewhere; if so, my apologies.
As a newbie to SOA, I am trying to wrap my head around the question of how app. development for SOA differs from traditional models. For example, non-SOA environments there are few external considerations when coding a process,
but in SOA environments, I understand everything is a service.
Can someone provide a few code snippets as to how they would look in each environment?
I have read through several documents on SOA and have done the SOA tutorial, etc. but I have yet to see a side-by-side comparison of application code in SOA and non-SOA environments.
How would an architect plan the translation and mapping of business objectives and functional requirements into a technical solution for SOA, architecting the SOA solution ?
I would really appreciate any pointers (links to articles, etc.) in this direction. Thank you.
    Gordon

    Hello Gordon,
SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) - as the name indicates, it's design is based on services. SOA is another integration technique which is used for small scale integration. SOA is an approach to have software resources in an enterprise available and discoverable on network as well defined services. Each service would achieve a predefined business objective and perform discrete units of work. The services are independent and do not depend on the context or state of the other services. They work within distributed systems architecture.
Few links which may help you in understanding SOA and it's design patterns -

If you want just the originals, then you can go into the Aperture library (right click on it and do "show package contents"). Inside is a directory called "Masters" and you can find the original files in a bunch of subfolders.
But... you'll lose all adjustments, keywords, and other information, and just have the files as they were imported originally from the cameras.
Easiest is probably to buy Aperture and update everything, and then migrate to the Photos application down the road if that's what you want. Aperture 3.0 came out in 2010 (five years ago!) so it's not like you've upgraded in a while

  • How to develop Framework Extension for join two tables

    Dear developers,

Maintenance tables are very small and less than 100 lines.
Maintenance tables mostly associated with a translation table.
Translation tables are used for localized texts.
Translation tables consists of Master Table Key + LanguageKey.
I want to edit customizing tables only session language as single table.
Translation table row may or may not be. Thats mean relationship is 1 to 0..1.
ADF table control ignore this relationship.
I tried view link between master view and detail view objects, but if translation table line is empty ADF table control throws translation iterator is null exception.
I tried entity based left joined editable view I get view link inconsisty problem.

  • How to start listener in sql developer for remote debug

how to start listener in sql developer for remote debug ? Since the new version 1.1.0.23 is different with the old version for remote debug, I don't know how to start the listener on the new version for remote debug.
even follow the user guide below and not work . Experts on sql developer please help me with this.
    Remote Debugging
To debug a procedure or function for a connection where the database is on a different host than the one on which you are
running SQL Developer, you can perform remote debugging.
Remote debugging involves many of the steps as for local debugging; however, do the
following before you start the remote debugging: Use an Oracle client such as SQL*Plus to issue the debugger connection command. Whatever
client you use, make sure that the session which issues the debugger connection commands is the same session which executes your PL/SQL
    program containing the breakpoints.
For example, if the name of the remote system is remote1, use the following SQL*Plus command to open a
TCP/IP connection to that system and the port for the JDWP session:
EXEC DBMS_DEBUG_JDWP.CONNECT_TCP('remote1', '4000'); The first parameter
is the IP address or host name of the remote system, and the second parameter is the port number on that remote system on which the debugger
    is listening.
Right-click the connection for the remote database, select Remote Debug, and complete the information in the Debugger - Attach
to JPDA dialog box. Then, follow the steps that you would for local debugging (for example, see Debugging a PL/SQL Procedure).
Debugger - Attach to JPDA This dialog box is displayed when you right-click a database connection name and select Remote Debug.
    Use this
dialog box if you are using the Sun Microsystem's Java Platform Debugger Architecture (JPDA) and you would like the debugger to listen so
that a debuggee can attach to the debugger.
For more information about remote debugging, see Remote Debugging.
Host: Name or IP address of
the remote host on which SQL Developer should listen for the database to connect.
Port: Listening port number on the remote host. You can
choose any valid port number that is not in use by another process.
Timeout: The number of seconds that SQL Developer will wait for the
remote database to make a debugging connection. Don't Show Dialog Box Before Connecting: If this option is checked, this dialog box will not
be displayed before future connections for remote debugging

    You're not the only one:
Not able to start remote debug listener

  • How do I develop for multiple screen resolutions using Adobe Air

    Hi,
I'm looking at developing mobile apps using Adobe Air but there's something I'm not quite sure. Sorry if this is a newbie question or has been repeated but I have looked at tutorials, etc but just want to get a general idea on how to prepare the assets. Here are some of my questions:-
    1) If I want to develop for the iPhone non-retina and retina resolution, do I actually need to only write the code and layout the graphics in retina(960 x 640) stage size and it will automatically scale down for non-retina resolution?
    2) How do I cater for iPhone 5 resolution? Do I actually need to swap say the background images through code by detecting the resolution size it was in? or do I actually just leave the background image longer it exceeds the stage height so when it's iPhone 5 it will show everything?
    thanks for the help!

If you are talking about regular Flash work, and not your own code-layout application, then what happens depends on the scale mode of the stage. Typically, when doing code layout the stage is set to no_scale, and you have to do all the hard work yourself, calculating the size of things, and laying them out with ActionScript.
If it's more of a typical Flash graphical scene there are two other scale modes that make life easier for you.
The default scale mode is show_all. With that you will be certain to see all of the content of your original Flash stage, and if the screen is a wider ratio than your stage, the content that is off the sides of the stage will be revealed. See this app I made, that uses that technique:
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/meet-heckerty-funny-interactive/id514220257?mt=8
It works well enough, I have enough extra background graphics to go out to a 16:9 screen, including iPhone 5. That particular stage is 1024x768, and it will scale all the way from iPad 3 Retina down to iPhone 3gs.
The other scale mode that is useful is no_border. In that mode you are certain to not have any black borders around the stage. It achieves that by cropping into either the left and right, or the top and bottom, of the stage. See these apps I made, that work that way:
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/milkshake-mayhem/id556962979?mt=8
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/p.s.-snowflake-yourself/id571384475?mt=8
In both of those cases I have content that is correct for half way between the ratio limits of 16:9 and 4:3 (or 9:16 and 3:4 for the portrait case). When the app runs on your device, some amount of the left and right, or the top and bottom, of the stage is cropped. I have enough background content for that to be ok, and all of the important content is within the middle 14:9 or 9:14 area of the screen. The stage size for the landscape app is 1680xx1080, exactly 14:9. This approach is better than the show_all one, in that the user doesn't feel like they are seeing a lot of blank space, as can be the case when viewing a 4:3 stage on a 16:9 screen.
One last thing, even with either of those techniques the app won't fill the iPhone 5 screen. To get that to work you have to include a splash screen that is 640x1136, and name [email protected]. With that in place iOS knows to make your app use the full width or height of the iPhone 5.

Uninstall SIMBL as follows. Back up all data before making any changes.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V), and press return. A folder will open. From that folder, delete the items listed below (some may be absent.) You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
    Application Support/SIMBL
    InputManagers/SIMBL
    LaunchAgents/net.culater.SIMBL.Agent.plist
    ScriptingAdditions/SIMBL.osax
Log out and log back in.
Make sure you never reinstall SIMBL. It’s likely to come bundled with another third-party system modfication that depends on it. If you want trouble-free computing, avoid software that makes miraculous changes to other software, especially built-in applications. The only real exception to that rule is Safari extensions, which are mostly safe, and are easy to get rid of when they don’t work. SIMBL and its dependents are not Safari extensions.

As you know, the business and programming community has
adopted Java in an unprecedented manner.
Java will be the lifeblood in the infrastructure of many
future (enterprise level) applications and future platforms.
So, I believe it is vital to understand Java!
To develop an enterprise level application without Java,
would be a difficult propositio to sell!
    Ofcourse, significant technical expertise in
    Designer and Developer, PL/SQL, etc
will continue to be valued for many years to come.
But this is just my personal opinion.
