How to disable html for whole swing application.

Hi,
As we can disable html for individual swing components , for example JLabel
label.putClientProperty("html.disable",Boolean.TRUE);
BasicHTML.updateRenderer(label,"html.disable");
is there any way to disable html rendering in swing components for system wide / whole application?.
Thanks
Kiran

Better use a utility method in the application like this
public static void disableHtml(JComponent component)
component.putClientProperty("html.disable",Boolean.TRUE);
BasicHTML.updateRenderer(component,"html.disable");
call disableHtml(Component u want to set html disable) for any component in the application.

  • Best IDE and how-to create HTML for a swing Applet

    Can you help me out? I've been using, and teaching with the old Symantec VisualCafe product from long, long, ago. It still works fine & I can even use it to build JFC/Swing Applets etc. But a few things have occurred. For one, a way back, Symantec sold VisualCafe to WEBGAIN - who now has gone out of business and sold it to a company called TOGETHERSOFT - who doesn't support it any longer.
    This isn't really a big deal to me, because I can still build and deploy applets that are pre-swing easily enough. (as can my students)
    HOWEVER... I'd like to be running with the LATEST Java (I think it's 1.4.01) and I'd LIKE to use whatever is the best development environment I can use - especially one I can recommend to my students. Do you know what that should be?
    What's more, I'd still like to take some JFC/Swing created applets (even if compiled with the older VisualCafe IDE) and generate the HTML to allow 1.4 enabled browsers to run them (this is the case for the schools versions of Explorer and Netscape). Now, the HTML I have INSTALLED for the students used the HTML converter - back in 1.2 to produce the HTML at the bottom of this. This code no longer works now with current browsers. Do you know HOW one makes a jfc/swing compiled applet run on the latest browsers?
    Any help or direction you can give would be appreciated.
    thanks,
    Bobby Berns

    Bobby,
    It's been a while since I've used the HTML Converter, but if I had to guess I'd say you need a newer version than what you have. Also, doesn't the converter allow you to choose which JDK you want to use (in which case you could select 1.4)? Again it's been a while so bear with me. Another option would be to put all the Swing classes into a .jar file (typically called swingall.jar) on your server and include that file as an attribute in your applet tag like this:
    <APPLET CODE="yourApplet.class" ARCHIVE="swingall.jar">
    This way you don't have to use the Java Plug-in, however the initial download time of the .jar file can be significant.
    As for an IDE, I've always been happy using a text editor like UltraEdit. However, I've heard good things about Forte, and hey, it's free!
    Regarding Christina's post, that solution will only work if the Applet does not use Swing components (and Bobby specifically said it does). By using the <OBJECT> and <EMBED> tags, rather than the <APPLET> tag, you force the browser to use the Java Plug-in (rather than the browser's default JVM).
    Hope that helps,

  • Set a default Font for a whole Swing application?

    Hi,
    Is it possible to set "Courier" as the default font for a whole swing application?
    I seem to have gotten lost here, could someone give me some pointers please?
    Thank You,
    -Uday

    So it needs to be done right at the beginningYes.
    Is there a code sample i can look at for reference and a standard way of doing this.I've seen examples posted in the forum the use the UIManager.getDefaults() method and then iterate through the defaults looking for all properties that end with ".font" and then replace the font as required.

  • Book Recommendation for Building Swing Applications

    I'm looking for recommendations on books for building swing applications from the ground up.
    I'm not a strong GUI developer. 95% of my experience has been strictly on back end development in many other languages. What little GUI experience I have has been with C++ (years ago) and most recently with HTML.
    I know what I want to develop, and even have the GUI design for my application drawn out. I just need a good book that can walk me through developing the interface in Java.
    I already have several books on Java. But, I find them somewhat limiting because they don't help me build the app from the ground up.
    Yes, I've tried the online book on the Sun site, "The Jfc Swing Tutorial: Guide to Constructing Gui's".
    Please offer some recommendations and reasons on why you like the book.
    Thanks.

    A few comments to that ....
    the first thing is understanding the LayoutManagers, that are available.
    I will give you a short guideline where they are usefull:
    FlowLayout - usefull for JLabel-JTextField combinations or several JButtons
    BorderLayout - usefull for the structure of basic containers
    CardLayout - usefull for every area of the screen, where you want to appear different panels
    GridLayout - usefull for a group of same-sized components laid out in a grid
    GridBagLayout - usefull for a group of components, that have different sizes, very flexible
    JTabbedPane - a special container, that is similar to CardLayout but with visible tabs to switch panels
    Normally you can say "I want that group at the bottom of the frame, that other group at its left side, that toolbar at its top" - if you can say so - that shouts for BorderLayout. If you can say "in this area I want to use several panels" that means CardLayout or a JTabbedPane.
    You see, if you have an idea, what the LayoutManagers do, you know exactly which area needs what Layout - so you have a guideline, which LayoutManager to use in that panel.
    To make an example:
    You want 3 buttons centered at the bottom of a frame - this 3 buttoms should be of that size, that is needed by the button texts. So, what to do:
    1. create a JPanel with FlowLayout
    2. create the buttons and add it to that JPanel
    3. create another JPanel with BorderLayout
    4. add that first JPanel to the second JPanel at BorderLayout.CENTER
    5. add this Panel to the ContentPane of the frame at BorderLayout.SOUTH
    that is a simple panel in panel construct - placing 3 buttons centered at the bottom of the frame. You have to play with that different LayoutManagers a little bit - the way you stick one panel in another changes the look of the GUI - if you know, how it changes (by playing with the examples of the tutorial), you will have that "from the ground"-experience, you are looking for - believe me.

  • How to include contextMenu for whole swf

    Hi everybody,
         Let me know How to include contextMenu for whole swf?

    I have a similar problem.
    Stand alone my Sprites custom context menu always works. I can instantiate it using code, and nest it 'n' levels deep.
    When I add it to my main application, a default context menu is shown.   The main application is very complex - as it's a design application similar to Balsamiq Mockups - so every individual widget has a stand alone test harness.   This has been working very well as a way of coping with the size and complexity of the main application. But the context menu thing just doesn't work in the main application, and from the documentation I've seen nothing that suggests I should have had any problems including else wher.
    Please, please if anyone knows why in some scenarios a context menu stops working and the default context menu is shown instead then please share as I'm at the point of tearing my hair out on this....

  • How to disable iMessage for a single contact?

    Hello apple communites, I have a simple and hopefully simple to answer question..
    I am curious as to how to disable iMessaging for a single contact.  My sister when she got her phone number originally had an iPhone, she has since gotten an android and kept the same phone number.  However I am running into issues with text messages to her, my phone still thinks she has an iPhone and continues to send every text as an iMessage, resulting in a failed message.  I can easily hit the "send again as a text message" option and the message/picture sends as normal.  I however find this a bit fustrating, and have tried everything I can think of to attempt to disable this.  However all the online tutorials I can find regarding disabling iMessage turns the feature off completly, I don't wish to do that.
    I have attempted to completely delete, (including all existing all texts and call history), and then re-add the contact, but that does not work either, my iPhone still attempts to send messages to my sister as an iMessge. Any help, if any, would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Your sister needs to disable iMessage on her iPhone if the iPhone is still available if she hasn't already done so.
    If she has, does she have iMessage enabled with the same Apple ID on another iOS device or on a Mac as was used to activate iMessage on her iPhone?
