How to do this or similar effect

Does anyone know how to make those special effects for secret agent and mission films, where as the numbers, the name, and so would come up on the screen, identifying the agent. 1:52 in this video as a example of what am talking about. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ruDmidiLxQM

There are hundreds of ways, maybe even thousands of ways to get numbers to animate. It all depends on what you want to do. You can use the Numbers Effect (Effects>Text>Numbers) applied to a solid. It's a little clunky but easy. You just animate the offset value.
You can apply a character offset animator to a text layer and animate either the offset or the range selector.
You could tie an expression to the source text that is driven by time, an expression slider, position, scale, or any other value. This expression, for example, will display the X position value of a null. You would simply animate the null position to make the numbers change. The starting value is either added or subtracted from the center of the composition.
sv = 500; // Start Value
v = thisComp.layer("Null 1").transform.position[0];
c = thisComp.width/2;
xpos = v - c + sv ;
Math.round(xpos)
I could go on for pages and pages. A Google search for After Effects numbers tutorials will bring up lots of resources. I suggest that you start there.

    I am having major issues with links in keynote! Even though the links (a navigation system) are on the master page, they are only working on some of my slides. Anyone have ideas on how to fix this or similar issues? Help!
    I have created a navigation system on the master pages and set the presentation to links only mode. I also have other links scattered throughout the program, like a linkable table of contents, etc. Some of them work, some of them don't. Not sure why. Anyone out there having similar issues? Or have any idea on how I can solve this issue? Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks!

    Links should not create any problems in Keynote.  If they are set up correctly on text, the text will be underlined. Objects that have links will have a curved arrow bottom right, if you click the arrow a popup will display the link information.
    Try this repair for Keynote,  ensure you complete all the tasks and in the order shown:

    delete all the iWork applications if you have them, not just Keynote, using Appcleaner from Mac Update, its a freeware application

    empty the trash:  Finder > Empty Trash

    Shut down your Mac, wait 30 seconds, then power on the Mac, immediately after the start chime, hold down the Shift key
    When you see the grey Apple symbol and progress indicator (a spinning gear), release the Shift key.
    If you are prompted to log in, type your password, then hold down the Shift key again as you click Log in.

    Let the Mac fully boot up, it will take longer as the OS is repairing the drive

    when fully booted, go to Applications > Utilities > Disc Utility; click on the boot drive then First Aid tab and click  repair disc permissions

    when complete, restart the Mac normally, Apple menu > Restart

    install Keynote from the Mac App Store
    let us know if this helped

  • Particle effect -how to achieve this kind of effect exactly

    Hello   please help me to achieve this type of flickering particle effect.  how to achieve this in After effect  which is shown at 0.8 sec to 0.11  in the attached link video. http://www.istockphoto.com/stock-video-2682258-hearts.php

    I can't give you the exact settings but you could use Trapcode Particular with a custom particle or CC Particle world. Just turn gravity to 0 and set up a custom particle.
    Your particle layer will be behind the spinning hearts layer. This should get you going in the right direction.

    How to add this type of effect in photoshop by plugin

    Well, if that's the best you can do in describing what you consider an "effect" in this image, it will take a mind reader or clairvoyant to figure it out.
    All I see is a guy that looks a lot like the infamous sex-slave-and-women-trafficker Saban Baran, possibly wearing a rug on his usually bald shaven head.

    If it's someone else and that is real hair, then someone may have selected the hair in Photoshop and applied a tiny bit of the Oil Filter on it.  The Oil Filter has been removed from the newest versions of Photoshop.

  • How to get this logo and effects in Illustrator?

    Hi Guys,
    I would like to design a logo that has similar effects (3D, bevel, shape, stroke, ...) effects like the "Circus Baroness" on the poster below. How do I get this in Illustrator?
    Many thanks!
    Bob

    It can be done. The basic warped shapes of the text can easily be done in Illustrator with Envelope Distort.
    1.) Type out "BARONESS" in a circus-like font. Then draw a rectangle that is a bit larger than that. Use the Anchor Point Tool to pull in the top and bottom of the rectangle a bit to form a concave shape. Align the "BARONESS" text and the concave rectangle shape so they are centered vertically and horizontally, the shape should be overlapping the text. With both items selected, go to Object > Envelope Distort > Make With Top Object. That will warp the text to the rectangle shape. You can release the text from this shape at any time by going back under Envelope Distort and choosing Release. Or you can choose Object > Expand to make the warp permanent.
    2.) For the "CIRCUS" part, draw a rectangle approximately the length of the "BARONESS" text. Type out the "CIRCUS" text and center it over top of the rectangle. Draw two stars with the Star Tool and position them to the left and right of "CIRCUS". Select all of these and group them. Then go under Object > Envelope Distort > Make With Warp > and choose "Arc". You can adjust the Arc settings to your liking. Similarly, you can choose Object > Expand to make these permanent.
    From there, you would just need to play around with the Appearance Panel to add a stroke and fill color, and play with the Shadow & Glow effects to approximate a beveled look. I would look up some tutorials on how to achieve a beveled look using the Appearance Panel. It's kind of like equivalent of Layer Styles in Photoshop, but it also functions a little differently. Some effects you could do more easily in Photoshop take a few more steps in Illustrator.

  • How to do this type off effect in Adobe?

    Hello guys.
    How can i do this kind of color effect in Premiere in this video at 1:40?  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4uoYk79Z_G4anks
    Thanks.

    It is a lot easier to see what they did if you download the video in order to be able to look at it frame by frame.
    To me, it looks like a combination of the levels effect and a 3 Way Color Corrector (or maybe just a Fast Color Corrector.) Then again, it might be an exaggerated Lumetri Look or something similar.Or, it may very possibly be a third part effect acting like a transition. No matter. There are lots of imaginative ways to do things like that if you so desire. Even using color mattes with different blending modes.
    For example. here are some screen shots. Watch the timecode indicator - these all happen pretty fast..

  • How to do a spinning heads effect with a single footage? (link to a video for clarification)

    hi.
    Could anybody give me a hint how to create this spinning heads effect demonstrated in this video (starting from 0:08):
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05ZvII57p_M
    The biggest mystery for me is how the spinning heads maintain their 3-dimensionality throughout the cycle. I attempted to do something similar with my own head's footage by applying CC Cylinder, but with only this effect the face becomes flat when it turns to 90 degrees.
    The author of this video claimed in multiple interviews that he uses only After Effects for all of his videos, so i'm pretty sure AE was used in this one too.

    Go buy a lazy suzan bearing at Home Depot, Set a chair on it. Center your head on the turning axis and put a green screen behind you. Shoot your head as you spin around.
    (edit: or sit on a stool with a seat that will spin as Dave suggested)
    Shoot a clean plate (the actor is not in the scene) then have the actor walk in. Roto out the head so the clean plate is in the background. Key out your spinning head green screen footage and put it between the clean plate and the rooted actor.

  • How to achieve this effect (similar to timeout)?

    I want to achieve something like this:
    if(some condition is met)
         //Do this
    else {
          Start a timer
          //Start a thread
          If(timer expired) {
                   //Clean up the thread that was started
                   //Do something else
    }I am not able to find how to implement the timer functionality. Can someone advice me on what to do? Or if my approach is incorrect, I would like to how something like this is done the right way...

    You shouldn't go around killing threads. Threads should notice themselves when they are not needed and do a "return;" from run(). Other methods of killing threads are unsafe and can lead to corrupted data structures.
    You have a loop of some kind in run()? Put a time check there.
    if (System.currentTimeMillis() >= my_time_to_die) { cleanupWhatever(); return; }

  • How to make this effect in Keylight?

    Hi, I have question, how to make this effect in Keylight?
    I know that this overlay is added here:

    Keylight what? All I see is some effect similar to Leave Color, a.k.a the Pleasantville effect that made the rounds 10 years ago. It may require additional masking and otehr effects, but definitely not something that is specifically related to Keylight...

  • FCPX - How to get this effect

    I am in total awe of the effect in this video. Can someone tell me how to achieve it in FCPX? A video is playing through the silouette of a man's body or so it seems.
    http://youtu.be/KLVq0IAzh1A

    I see Sting, a daylight shot of people walking around and a "nighttime" clip as an overall background (the two scenes: walking people and the darker background are the same "scene" (same angle) -- one populated by people (in "clean environment") and the other -- everything overgrown by vines -- Sting cuts a silhouette of the walking people over the scene overgrown by vines... and in the dark.
    You can do a similar effect by using the same clip (duplicated) as the lighter and darker scenes and colorize (manipulate the exposure of)  the "background" scene as something darker -- or simply different.
    Anyway, there are 3 basic clips involved.
    I'm going to modify my original suggestion somewhat (silhouette luma doesn't really work as well as I expected it to):
    I duplicated the effect here (but not with the best material - the dark jacket doesn't really improve the effect):
    This is the set up for the two clips that make the compound. The top clip is the green screen keyed and the blend mode set to Stencil Alpha (a change from my original post). It creates a mask for the background in the shape of the green screened person. The background/lower layer is the clip with the lighter/normal exposure (similar to the people walking around clip.)
    In the storyline (moved back out of the compound) the compound video is synchronized over the same background clip IN the compound (in the Sting version - the background scene is overgrown with vines and there are no people, but it is the same camera POV as the walking people layer) [The red X indicates that the top layer is currently disabled -- I bring it back in below.]
    In this image -- I have applied a deep darkening (global setting) in the selected (storyline) layer.
    Finallly, the green screen clip is overlaid on top of everything, and the opacity is set to about 85% (in this example.)
    HTH (and hope it's clear)

  • How to get this effect? (photo included)

    I want to create on my photos that effect that is a sort of red, or purple glow. Its often used and its something i cant find how to do it.
    http://www.andimayr.de/pictures/people/pl_17.jpg
    That is an example.
    Thanks!

    I've always loved making effects like this using a gradient and layer blending options.
    1. Start with your image. Try keeping the original colors, or desaturate the original image!
    2. Make a new layer and apply a gradient with as many color choices as you want. (Try 2 colors, 3 colors, 8 colors, or just one color that fades into transparency)
    3. Change the Blending Option for the gradient layer to something like Screen, or Color, or Soft Light. Also, try adjusting the opacity of the gradient layer to make the effect more or less pronounced.
    Screen, Opacity: 100%
    Screen, Opacity: 50%
    Soft Light, Opacity: 50%
    I hope this helps. I'm sure there are many other ways of achieving similar effects, this is just a favorite of mine.
    The example you posted has a very subtle use of colorization, so play around with the opacity and blending options between the layers until you find something you like!
    Cheers,
    Michael.

    I found a post from Alope that told me exactly how to fix it.

    hello everybody!

    like on this image. Effect is on the banner/scroll and shield.
    thank you

    I would say -and this is how I would do it too- pen tool. Just good
    old-fashioned technical ability.
    a plug-in for this sort of effect would have to be very complicated to
    give you the exact thing you were looking for.

    One more thing, guys. I looked through most of the effects he used and I can explain how did it, except how on earth did he pull this off?

    Sorry no. That's how it works.
    Check if you still have an old backup and do a restore otherwise it's gone.
