How to end a sevlet session?

hi all
I am developing a mobile application in which i used to hit a servlet url and a returning a string.
if the user has opened the application before one hour i am have to close the session at server side
and i need to sent null a response for further hits after one hour.
I have to give response only when the user close the application and open it again.
how can i do it plese help me?

in web.xml file, there is an attribute to set the session timeout.

If you go into Facebook settings, in the app section under your account, and delete the skype from your facebook apps, it appears to fix this issue.

How to end user session correctly as sys or system user

Database version Oracle 10.2.0.3
We have to end user sessions to update database content. We cant stop/shutdown the instance but we have to assure that some users are not logged on.
So we are looking for a solution to end some arbitrary user sessions as sys or system user without using the KILL USER SESSION option. We want to assure that the user sessions end correctly.
Is there a possibility or a command in Oracle 10g to end a user session correctly ?

Ending A Single session

I am currently using servlet programming to crearte a shopping cart. i have all the elements running, however i am trying yo delete from the cart by ending the session that holds the values. the result however is that it ends all the sessions that i am using and the only way that i can fix this is by jumping back to the start page which is not very nice. i was wondering if anyone knew how i could end just the one session, it would be very greatful if anyone did know, cheers

A Session is one browser's session, not the web server session. By calling .invalidate() on a Session, you basically kill that session. All other sessions should be left untouched.
If you only want to remove one object from a particular Session, invoke the removeValue() or remove Attribute() (removeValue is deprecated) with the 'key' of the object you wish to remove.
My suggestion is to develop a class that is the shopping cart. Put on instance into each user's session on page one. As items are added, get the cart from the session and add the item. As items are removed, get the cart from the session and remove the item. The cart will always be in the session.

How do I create a session?

In order to use methods like getValidSessions() in the Session class of the SessionAPI for iPlanet Portal Server, I need a Session object. There is no obvious way to construct one based on the javadocs. I can get one from a SessionID object, but in order to create a SessionID object, I need a HTTP request or an encrypted string, i.e. SessionID( String sid ). How can I create a Session object, or how can I create a SessionID object (which will allow me to get a Session object)? Any help is much appreciated. NOTE: I'm building a plain Java utility to use the Portal Server API to retrieve session and profile information, and I'm not implementing it as a servlet.

From com.iplanet.portalserver.providers.ProviderAdapater use the getSession() method whish returns com.iplanet.portalserver.session.Session object

For stateful session beans you can use the timeout attribute in the orion-ejb-jar e.g.
<session-deployment timeout=1800 ..>
this is specified in seconds and Default Value: 30 (minutes)

I am not sure of your question. Are you wanting to have 2 Session objects (one for the parent window and another for the child)?
A session is usually created once per client and is stored on the server the session id is carried around in a cookie or a URL rewrite so that everytime the user submits a page you will be able to store/access information.

Depends. You can create a javax.servlet.http.HttpSessionListener implementation and register it in the web.xml file (I forget the syntax, though), which can notify you of sessions being created and destroyed.
Or you can create a javax.servlet.http.HttpSessionBindingListener implementation and add it to the session (setAttribute()) and it'll have it's valueUnbound method called when the session expires (or the attribute is removed, but if you don't remove it, the session invalidating will). That's a good place for session-specific clean-up.
