How to export a clip to a DVCam tape via a recorder

I am unable to transfer a clip to a DVCam tape because there no such alternative in the menu share of FCP X. Can some one advise on how to proceed. The right question is HOW TO PRINT TO VIDEO IN FCP X ?

FCPX doesn't do this.
You will need a third party hardware and software.
Here's an example.
Good luck.

  • How to export iMovie clips for import to Windows video editing programs?

What export format creates an exact digital copy of mini-dv video which can be recognised and imported by Windows video editors?
I need to give editable copies of DV to Windows users, The lowest common denominator is Windows Movie Maker, which does not recognise .dv files created by copying from the project's Media folder, or Sharing a Movie to DV stream.
I want to burn data DVDs with clips or complete projects from iMovie which are equivalent to copying back to mini-DV tapes.
Is Share to AVI my only option?
If so, is there any loss in quality?
    iMac G5, MacBook, iMac 233 (R.I.P.)   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

after spending a few minutes on the net concerning that WindowMovieMaker, my guess is:
    WMM does NOT accept a "file.dv" ...
but is does accept that same dv within an avi container... "file.avi"
avi and mov are just containers, not formats, as a box of chocolate, "wrappers" for many codecs...
try to export your clips as avi, and choose under compressor "DV"...- give that a try...
DV is the same codec which is in use on miniDV tapes, and the same, iM uses internally... so, it should be no quality loss.. just a "wrapping"...

  • How to export .MOD  clips as iMovie Project without quality losing?

    Hi,
i have JVC HDD SD Camera (GZ-MG335HE). If i play .MOD Clips directly with VLC i have very good movie quality. I shoot movies in ultra fine quality (Right click on .MOD file shows: Res.720 x 576, kbps 9284, 25 frames per second, Codecs: MPEG-2 Video, AC3). But as soon i import movies, there is drop in quality. I tried to export movies as quick time movie, choosing many formats - dv, avi, .mov, .mpg but there is always to me visible loss of movie quality. iMovie produces good movies, but i would like to have the same quality as on my camera (the movie size doesn´t matter to me- i need 4,7 GB on HDD for 1 hour-that is acceptable for me)
Is it possible to import .MOD movies 1:1 to iMovie and then make project and export the movie without quality losing?
    Thanks

Do you mean import what I have in iMovie 09 into iMovie HD/06 instead? I suppose I could but I wanted to add some of iMovie 09's titles and adjustment effects to my iMovie HD/06 project, so it could get quite complicated trying to piece it all together. I may have to do that as a last resort, but does anyone know any way I can get around this?
I would think there must be some way to save my iMovie 06 file as something other than an iMovie file without losing quality... but things aren't always that easy are they?

  • How to export a clip to be viewed on a Mac

I have a short video clip, just a couple of minutes, taken with a DSLR, it is a Quicktime .mov file. I have tweaked it in PE 10, now I'd like to save it as a file that a friend can view on a Mac. "File > Export" is grayed out. "Share" offers 3 options: Adobe Flash Video: MPEG: AVCHD. Unfortunately I know nothing about Macs except that Flash is verboten. And I know even less about AVCHD. Would a Mac be able to play an MPEG file? Or an AVCHD file??
I do not want to upload it to the Web, or share it on any sort of social network, just want to send a file as an attachment, or if that isn't practical I'll mail it on an SD chip. Preumably a Mac can play a .mov file.
And one other thing. I used Premiere Pro some years ago and I'm pretty sure that I used File > Export all the time, so why is Export not an option. I imagine there must be some way to export or presumably that wouldn't be listed under the File menu. I did a search for "file export" in PE 10 Help, no results, nothing! Under what circumstances would it be an option?
    Help and enlightenment much appreciated.

I would need more information about your Timeline content - especially frame size, frame rate, interlaced or progressive. You say it is a .mov file.
So for now, I will generalize....
Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on the computer with your Premiere Elements 10?
Share/Computer/Quicktime should be fine for a H.264.mov file export for viewing on Mac.
(Share/Computer/AVCHD might be a possibility for a AVCHD.mp4 file export for viewig on Mac)
Premiere Elements 7 was the last of the Premiere Elements versions to offer a section named Share as well as File Menu/Export/ with more than just the Export to Title. After version 7, there is a File Menu/Export, but it is only for saving titles created in the Titler.
Please let us know more details of your project settings so that we can fine tune the export suggestion with real numbers.
    Thanks.

  • [How To] Capturing all clips in a DV tape - another way

Previously there was discussion stating that Captue Project was not available in FCPE to capture an entire camcorder tape. True enough. There was a reference to using iDrive (which I tried and it worked).
However nobody mentioned using DV Start/Stop Detect and making sub-clips. FWIW here's what I discovered:
    (0) Assuming your camcorder has device control use Capture Now to get the entire tape onto your scratch disk(s).
    (1) In the Browser select the "clip" (which is the entire tape) and under the Mark menu select DV Start/Stop Detect. This will scan the "clip" and place markers where each "segment" ends.
    (2) In the Browser select the "clip" and toggle the downward pointing triangle. You will see a bunch of Marker icons, one for each "segment". Select a clip and rename it as you wish. Then select Make Subclip from the Modify menu.
This will create a subclip (note the icon) if you look in the browser below the original clip.
Repeat till you have as many subclips as you wish.
Maybe this will help some who run into the confusing and somewhat misleading information in the FCPE Help Manual.
    respect...

    Quicksilver G4 867mhz   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

    1) First of all, Capture Project does not capture tape; it rebuilds a project from a previous file
    2) You certainly can capture an entire tape .. either by Capture Now, manually starting and stopping the capture or by setting IN and OUT points to cover the entire tape and using Capture Clip
Now, I take it from the rest of your post that what you want is the iMovie technique of capturing the tape and having it break up the shots; your method is the way to do this
But making a blanket statement that FCE will not capture an entire tape is misleading. This what I do for every project, usually with Capture Clip. This gives me one, hour long clip, but for my work flow that is sufficiant.

  • Capturing DVCAM tape

I am capturing a DVCAM tape via Firewire from a Sony DSR-11. In the Log and Capture window I select the DV NTSC 48 kHz capture preset.
However, the resulting video looks bad. It's heavily pixilated and not sharp, not at all how it looked in the preview window and when viewed on an external broadcast monitor.
    Any suggestions?

That is how it looks. It is just a "proxie" image for you to see what is being captured without needing an external monitor attached. It will look like crud. But, as you said, that isn't how your footage REALLY looks. For that, just look at the external monitor that you should have attached to the deck if you want to see a good quality image.

  • How to export and reimport clips maintaining best quality?

I'd like to ask a few questions.
    (1) I have several subclips in FCE that I would like to export, so I can import them back into FCE as individual clips, separate from the original capture. I would also like the option to use the exported clips in iMovie project. The most important thing is to save the clips at the highest possible quality. I ran into a problem when trying to import the clips back into FCE.
First, I tried exporting clips using File>Export>Using Quicktime Conversion... with the following options:
    Video Settings:
    Compression Type H.264
Quality: Best (the slider in the Settings window I dragged all the way to the right for Best quality)
    Key frame rate: 24
    Frame Reordering: yes
    Encoding mode: multi-pass
    Audio Settings:
    Format: Uncompressed
    Sample rate: 48 kHz
    Sample size: 16
    Channels: 2
    Prepare for Internet Streaming <unchecked>
The clip was saved to disk. I didn't open or modify the clip at all.
Then I tried using File>Import>Files... but when I tried to import it, I got this error:
"File Error: 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown."
So this is the problem I'm experiencing. Can't re-import the clip into FCE (it imports into iMovie fine, though)
Questions: Am I using "wrong" settings? Why is this happening? How can I export and reimport clips while maintaining best video and audio quality?
    (2) A couple related questions: Some of my original source video was recorded at 12-bit quality (32 kHz). I know 16-bit is best (48 kHz) but the camera I used came with factory default 12-bit (and as a novice I didn't know to change it until several months later).
    So here are my questions.
    (a) If I export these clips using audio export settings at 48 kHz instead of 32 kHz, would that cause any problems?
    (b) Would those clips then be recognized by FCE and iMovie as having 48 kHz audio even though it was originally recorded at 32 kHz? (I know the quality will be no better, but I've read somewhere that using 32 kHz audio can cause some problems with out-of-sync audio, particularly in iMovie. My hope is the new clip with the 48 kHz audio will circumvent such problems.)
Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

TSchneider: Thanks again for your valuable reply. I have a few follow-up questions.
My first set of questions is about rendering audio to 48kHz in the timeline.
Almost immediately you'll notice that FCE has tagged the
entire audio track with a red bar meaning it will
need to be rendered (if you try to play the clip from
the Canvas controls you'll just get beeping or very
low quality sound). Go up to the Sequence menu and
select the Render All (or Mixdown) command and FCE
will transcode the 32kHz audio of your clip to the
48kHz audio of the sequence it's sitting in.
I followed your instructions and everything seemed to work until I got to the passage above. I dragged the subclips into the timeline. The clips appeared in the timeline but there was no red bar. If I chose Render All from the Sequence Menu, nothing happened. If I chose Export to Quicktime Movie, however, it takes several minutes, apparently rendering the audio and video. If I chose instead, Print to Video, the red bars do appear and the rendering process again gets going. There is a small progress bar for both operations in the center of the screen with a percent done and estimated time remaining.
Question: Why doesn't the red bar appear as soon as the clips are in the Timeline?
Question: Why doesn't Render All (or Render Audio) work? It would be much easier to walk away while all the audio rendered into 48kHz and then come back later to save the individual clips to disk.
My second set of questions pertains to the possibility of using Export>Using Quicktime Conversion as a substitute for Export>Quicktime Movie, mainly for academic instead of practical reasons.
If you export a clip directly from the bin "Using
Quicktime Conversion" there aren't any suitable
conversion video/audio formats that would give you
both video in the right format (for iMovie) and
transcode the audio to the sampling rate you want.
I understand your description of rendering the audio files in the timeline. If only academic, I was trying to see if I could duplicate the results using using Export>Using Quicktime Conversion. I chose Quicktime Movie as the format. The video setting was DV/DVCPRO-NTSC. The audio was uncompressed with 48kHz rate. This created a Quicktime movie file with these formats. If I opened the quicktime movie file in Quicktime and checked the info on the file, the audio was indeed 48kHz.
Question: Does this mean that the Quicktime Conversion process rendered the 32kHz audio to 48kHz audio prior to writing the file? If so, it would seem to bypass the need to render the clips in a sequence (although if I could render all the clips in the sequence at once, while I was away from the computer, it would be faster than rendering and saving each clip one at a time).
Question: When I exported a clip this way, then imported it into iMovie, the original capture date/time info was missing when I got info on the clip. However, when I save the clip using Export>Quicktime Movie, the date/time of capture was still present. Would there be any way to preserve this date/time of capture info when using Export>Using Quicktime Conversion?
Question: If I decided to Export>Using Quicktime Conversion with the above settings (DV/DVCPRO-NTSC, 48kHz audio) there are other options I'm given pertaining to the video settings. There are settings for Compressor Quality, with a sliding bar where you can choose Least, Low, Medium, High, and Best quality; and there is Scan Mode (interlaced or progressive). How does one choose among these? If you want the best quality exported clip, I suppose you would chose best quality, but what scan mode is "best" for my purposes -- interlaced or progressive?
Thanks a lot for your help. I'm learning a lot!

  • How can you export a clip selection from FCPX to motion? Round tripping?

How do you export a clip selection out of FCP into Motion? In Motion, you have the option of exporting a selection out of motion? I don't understand why FCPX does not have this functionality. I do not want to export an effect or  transition. FCPX is good, but it looks like the application team have no clue about workflows. Especially integration between FCP and Motion.

Not sure if you are asking a question or having a rant .. also not sure what your point is about it being 2013 ? Roundtripping is not in these apps .. sold for very little (relative to FCS which did roundtripping) and most of the functionality used daily from Motion is now in FCPX in one way or another. Perhaps it would be a 'handy' but to highlight this as some BIG deal is a tad missing the point ... .
What exactly is it you cannot do in FCPX and need to send to Motion to work on ?
These may help you with the basics of new compound clips ...

  • How to export to DVCAM tape with timecode from Premiere CS 6?

I am having a lot of trouble with this. I need to give a dvcam tape with proper timecode to a television station for a Show I edit. I am editing for this station for last 7 years. Before they accepeted betacam, but now they changed to DVCAM. I have Premiere Pro 6 (or CC) and SONY HVR M15U deck. I connected it via firewire, then realized firewire can't export timecode. Now I am in a pickle.
    Possible solutions (may be):
    - Buy a card, send other signal like SDI to the deck?
    - Buy new deck?
Please help. I able to print to tape via firewire, but how can I print the timecode?
    Thanks

    Sure it can.

  • How do you export multiple clips out of Premiere CC

It's listed as a feature numerous times in the forums but I haven't been able to export cut down stock footage as individual clips. Can someone please direct me on how to do so.
    Thanks!

    Ahhh, yes.
Adobe goofed on this one.  When you export a sequence, the default is properly set up for In to Out range.  But when you export a clip, the default is Entire Clip.  This makes NO sense to me.  Why would anyone want to create an exact duplicate?  It seems much more likely that exporting a clip, you want only the In to Out far more often.
Unfortunately, there's no way to change this when selecting multiple clips.  You can only change that setting when you send a single clip.
Please let Adobe know you want the default for Sequences and Clips to be In/Out range.
    https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform
In the mean time, I'm afraid you're stuck setting up one clip at a time.
I'm on Windows, so I can't help with the ProRes issue.

  • How to extract (not export) a clip from iMovie?

I know how to select a clip and the export it into a Full Quality .DV file. However, this operation takes a few minutes and displays a messaging saying it was compressing the file.
I also notice that when my iMovie project is loaded, it says it is loading clip1.dv clip2.dv etc. So I guess despite the iMovie project appears to be one file, it is actually maintaining all the clips separately. So if I want to share a copy of Clip1.dv, I should be able to extract it quickly. I would assume the extraction should be as quick as a file copy. However, I could not find a quick way to get to the clips. Exporting the clip seems to be the only way to get the clip out and it is taking unnecessarily long.
I vaguely remember the older version of iMovie actually uses a folder to hold the .dv files instead of using a project. The newer version of iMovie seems to be more less efficient to require an export.
Can anyone share your trick on how to by-pass the compression and exporting process and get to the clip files directly?

ctrl-click on your project-file, choose 'show package'..
inside is a 'Media' Folder, containing all 'clips'..

  • HELP!!!! Problems with saving/exporting split clips in Premiere Elements 13

I have Premiere Elements 13.  I have a 2 hr mp4 file I have set up into 8 split clips and want to save each split clip as it's own mp4 file so I can import it into Adobe Presenter as video for each particular slide.  I need very specific steps as how to accurately select each split clip and save it or export it as it's own mp4 file.  I was given instructions that instructed me to add these gray bars around the clip I wanted to save/export but I am unable to identify how to get those gray bars to activate around the clip.  When I save/export it is saving the entire 2 hr mp4 vs the individual clip.
