How to export m4a from a sequence in Final Cut Express

I have a sequence in FCE with multiple audio tracks, no video.
I want to directly export an m4a.
The closest options I can see via QT conversion are video: "for iPod" which is .m4v and .movs that have AAC audio option.
I want the .m4a file extension, just audio.
Can anyone help?

Export via Quicktime Conversion and choose MPEG-4 as your format. Once you've exported, manually change the extension from .mp4 to .m4a. A .m4a file just indicates an audio-only MPEG-4 file (usually encoded in AAC).

Make sure you are running FCP 7.0.3. That version deals with files from the NX5 the best. If you are on a previous version, like FCP 6....you will need to use CLIPWRAP2 from Divergentmedia.com. As the specific AVCHD format the NX5 uses is something that FCP 6 cannot really deal with.
Gotta love new camera formats.

Changing an SD sequence in Final Cut Express to an HD Sequence?

I have a job done for a client that was done shot in SD and edited in SD on Final Cut Express. I would like to "trick" the software by putting the SD footage in an HD sequence and stretching it manually to keep from having that squashed video effect.
1) Is this possible?
2) Can I change a sequence from SD to HD without redoing the entire sequence manually?

Having issues importing from my camcorder to Final Cut Express

I have a JVC GZ-MG130U HDD and was told it was compatible with Final Cut Express but when I connect it to my Mac it is as if the computer will not recognize it. I don't if I have the computer set up wrong or what.. Please help..

Quite simply your camera is not suitable for FCE or any other pro editing system.
However, you should be able to use it but it will involve buying another item to convert your files into the DV format that FCE uses.
Download MPEG Streamclip free of charge and then download the QuickTime MPEG2 Playback component from Apple for about $20.

Use Streamclip in the following way:-
1. Copy the files from your camera's HD onto the desktop
2. Drag the files into the Streamclip window.
3. Select File>Export to QuickTime.

5. Click "Make Movie".

We're planning on using a DSLR that shoots AVCHD video as a B Camera on a shoot that will be edited in Final Cut Express for posting on You Tube. Will this work in Final Cut Express?

Yes, provided you convert the video to QuickTime/Apple Intermediate Codec before importing it into FCE.
Many users like MPEG Streamclip for this purpose, and it does a great job.
If you are using a Canon DSLR there is a plugin for Final Cut Pro but not for Final Cut Express, so you have to convert the video yourself before importing into FCE. (In Final Cut Pro, the EOS E1 plugin allows you to directly Log & Transfer from the 5D and 7D).

Export to Playstation 3 broken in Final Cut Express 4 ?

I used to use FCE3, and would export HD to my Playstation 3 successfully.
I use "Export to MP4" H.264, 1920x1080, 25000Kbps (25 Mbps) 30 fps frame rate, high quality.
Worked every time.
Upgraded to Final Cut Express 4.0.1 and now the PS3 says the files are "unsupported" I know the PS3 is very finnicky over files but I cannot see any differences in my files.

How can I find serial number for upgraded Final Cut Express?

On my old G4 laptop, I had upgraded from Final Cut Express to Final Cut Express HD. Just bought a Mac Mini and installed FCE HD, but it's asking me for the serial number from the original Final Cut Express from which I upgraded. Duh. Of course I don't have that any more.
Does anyone know if this might still be found on my hard drive somewhere? Thanks.

Probably not. But just in case, fire up FCE on your old G4 laptop, then do +About Final Cut Express+ and look at the serial number below your name. It's probably the serial number of your FCE-HD Upgrade but there's an off chance it may be your original serial number.
Also, if you sold or gave away your original Full version of FCE, and someone else has installed it on their Mac, you are no longer properly licensed on your current system. You have to keep the original, Full version in order to be licensed to use the Upgrade. That's why the Upgrade asks for both serial numbers.
One other thing, only FCE4 is supported on Show Leopard (assuming your MacMini is new, it will have Snow Leopard on it.)

How can I transfer this video from a disc to Final Cut Express?

There's an empty Audio_TS folder and a Video_TS folder containing VOB, BUP, and IFO files. Please keep in mind, I don't know what any of that means :3
I tried to use Quicktime but it said they're not video files... but it can play on the dvd player app.

You'll need to convert the DVD's VOB files into an editable format that FCE works with natively. How Do I Edit iPhone 4 video in Final Cut Express

Every time I import video shot from my iPhone 4 I need to render it out once I place it on my time line. How do I get it to render realtime? I have loaded every sequence present and it doesn't work.

I was thinking the playing of a QT file is the problem. I think FC has to convert on the fly. It's native format is DV isn't it?
The open timeline may take a bit more horsepower. I have a 7200 rpm internal drive so that's not the issue.
I can play it in the viewer slug though. They drop right into iMove and play fine.
May be iPhone video needs to be run through Compressor or QT Pro for a conversion? That's too bad if true.

Capturing Footage from Canon HV40 to Final Cut Express Issue

I own a Canon HV40 camcorder and shot a short film using the 24p HDV 24F Cine Mode feature (for film look). I've captured the footage into Final Cut Express, but the footage is running at a faster speed. I know this may have something to do with frames per second in the user preferences section.
Does anyone have the concrete solution to this problem and will I have to recapture my footage under a different setting?
Please advise.

Hi Eric,
FCE only supports frame rates of 60i, 30p, 50i, and 25p. To edit 24p footage you'd need Final Cut Pro.

Trouble importing from Canon HF20 to Final Cut Express 4.0

Took me a while trying to find the file, but after reading on another topic, i learned about menu file then log and transfer.
anyways, when i try to drag footage to the lower left, i get this red exclamation mark under status and it says "Error: No Data"
I tried tweaking the mark in and out, even using the play in to out button, but i keep getting the same error. Does anyone else get this? what am i doing wrong?
