How to extract the element name of an XML Document

This is how my xml file looks like:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
- <nsiData>
- <instance timestamp="2011-05-25 19:01:00">
<AECI>47.00</AECI>

</instance>
- <instance timestamp="2011-05-25 19:02:00">
<AECI>47.00</AECI>
<EEI>-555.00</EEI>
<EES>-91.00</EES>
<EKPC>-22.00</EKPC>
<LGEE>-148.00</LGEE>
<MHEB>-1375.00</MHEB>
<MISO>-4709.00</MISO>
<MOWR>55.00</MOWR>

<SWPP>82.00</SWPP>
<TVA>-69.00</TVA>
<WAUE>-158.00</WAUE>
</instance>
</nsiData>
I want to extract the element name and the element value from this file. I was trying to do it this way:
SELECT datetime,
loc.aeci_value,
loc.eei_value
FROM temp_xmltype txml,
XMLTABLE ('/nsiData' PASSING xmldata) misolmp,
XMLTABLE ('/nsiData/instance' PASSING misolmp.object_value
COLUMNS
datetime VARCHAR2(100) PATH '/instance/@timestamp') misodt,
XMLTABLE ('/nsiData/instance' PASSING misolmp.object_value
COLUMNS
aeci_value VARCHAR2(100) PATH '/instance/AECI',
eei_value VARCHAR2(100) PATH '/instance/EEI') loc
WHERE txml.feed_id = 127
But doing it this way does not get me AECI as a column value. Is there any way to get the element name as a column value.
I am on 11gR2

The SQL statement you wrote returns 4 rows and there is only two AECI values in there. The corrected version of what you wrote should really be
SELECT loc.datetime,
       loc.aeci_value,
       loc.eei_value
  FROM temp_xmltype txml,
       XMLTABLE ('/nsiData/instance' PASSING txml.xmldata
                 COLUMNS
                 datetime   VARCHAR2(100) PATH '@timestamp',
                 aeci_value VARCHAR2(100) PATH 'AECI',
                 eei_value  VARCHAR2(100) PATH 'EEI') loc
WHERE txml.feed_id = 127;If you know the element name and want it returned as a column name, why not just hard code it in the SQL statement, such as
SELECT loc.datetime,
       'AECI' as AECI,
       loc.aeci_value,
       'EEI' AS EEI,
       loc.eei_value
  FROM temp_xmltype txml,
       XMLTABLE ('/nsiData/instance' PASSING txml.xmldata
                 COLUMNS
                 datetime   VARCHAR2(100) PATH '@timestamp',
                 aeci_value VARCHAR2(100) PATH 'AECI',
                 eei_value  VARCHAR2(100) PATH 'EEI') loc
WHERE txml.feed_id = 127;I suspect you are really looking for something like {message:id=9535532}
Note: See the FAQ (under your sign-in name) for how to use the code tag to format code as shown above.

    The views use XPath expressions and functions such as extractValue() to define the mapping between columns in the view and nodes in the XML document. The following view is created on purchase order schema.
    Creating Relational Views On XML Content
    CREATE OR REPLACE view PURCHASEORDER_MASTER_VIEW
    (REFERENCE, REQUESTOR, USERID, COSTCENTER,
    SHIP_TO_NAME,SHIP_TO_ADDRESS, SHIP_TO_PHONE,

    When we register XML Schema in Oracle 9i, the schema elements of XML documents are stored as XMLType, that is, stored using object-relational storage techniques.
    For a small schema, we could build the above view manually, but for large/nested schema, if we have query to build XML documents node list, it will help us to build Relational Views on XML Content.
    How do we extract the nodes of any given XML document through O-R structures or XML DB using XML DB functions?
    Any alternate thoughts are welcome.
    I appreciate your help.

    Once again, I do not think that you can solve the problem you are trying to solve. Fundamentally you need to determine for a given element of a given complex type what are it's child elements. For each of those elements you then need to find out whether or not it in turn has child elements...
    Then you have to think about elements defined as ref rather than type, elements that are substituteable, and the rest of possibilities that can be described with XML Schema.
    If you can solve that problem you're a better man than I as the saying goes. Anyone rather than give you a fish, I'll show you how to at least put a worm on the hook..
    The following query gets the names of the elements inside a each of the global complex types

  • How to include the file name as an XML field

    Hi,
    I'm using a file adapter for process a flat file and convert it into an XML. Does anybody knows how to include the file name into an XML field.
    Ex.
    I process the file named <b>XXIMN21022007.txt</b> and I need an XML like:
    <MT_FILE>
    <field1></field1>
    <field2></field2>
    <field3></field3>
    <filename><b>XXIMN21022007.txt</b></filename>
    </MT_FILE>
    Regards
    Gonzalo

    Just go for dynamic configuration.
    Check the sender file adapter to write the filename in the header (as explained in Michal's blog) and then read that header in some mapping.
    U can use that even in simple message mappings.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/43/03612cdecc6e76e10000000a422035/frameset.htm
    Your code for the filename tag would be something like:
    <i>DynamicConfiguration conf = (DynamicConfiguration) container
        .getTransformationParameters()
        .get(StreamTransformationConstants.DYNAMIC_CONFIGURATION);
    DynamicConfigurationKey key = DynamicConfigurationKey.create(
        “http://sap.com/xi/XI/System/File”,
        “FileName”);
    return conf.get(key);</i>

  • How to obtain the encoding scheme for an XML document

    How do you go about reading the encoding scheme for an XML document??
    More specifically how do I read the line:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    (Using Win32 C++ XML Parser 2.0.3 as SAX).
    null

    I work mostly with the Java versions of the parser so you'll have to make the translation to C++. As far as I know, you can't use the SAX API to access to the encoding.
    You need to use the DOM along with Oracle's extension to the basic DOM functionality. Oracle's package, oracle.xml.parser.v2 defines a class which implements the Document interface called XMLDocument. This class has a method, getEncoding(), which returns the encoding. You would use the method in getDocument() in the Parser base class inherited by DOMParser to retrive the XMLDocument.

  • Import From Folder: How to Extract the File Name in a Custom Column.

    Hello All
    Here´s what we´re trying to do:
    We have a folder with csv files named like this:
    Sales_2013-02-05.csv
    Sales_2013-02-04.csv
    Sales_2013-02-03.csv
    Sales_2013-02-02.csv
    Sales_2013-02-01.csv
    And in the csv files there are the sales columns but not the date column.
    So we want to extract the date from the file name.
    I´ve tried entering = Source[Name] in a custom column, but it adds a "LIST" link, and on a click on expand, it adds ALL file names from the folder in each row, instead of just the needed one.
    If we could get the proper file name in each row (from where they got extracted), we could split the column and get the date from there. But I don´t know how put the filename there properly.
    Can you help?

    This isn't entirely straightforward, but it's definitely possible. What you need to do is to apply all of your transforms to each individual file instead of the combined files. I do that as follows:
    1) Use Folder.Files as generated by the GUI to look at the list of my files.
    2) Pick one file and do all the transformations to it that I want to apply to all of the files. Sometimes, this just amounts to letting the autodetection figure out the column names and types.
    3) Go into the advanced editor and edit my code so that the transformations from step 2 are applied to all files. This involves creating a new function and then applying that function to the content in each row.
    4) Expand the tables created in step 3.
    As an example, I have some files with names that match the ones you suggested. After steps 1 + 2, my query looks like the following:
    let
        Source = Folder.Files("d:\testdata\files"),
        #"d:\testdata\files\_Sales_2013-02-01 csv" = Source{[#"Folder Path"="d:\testdata\files\",Name="Sales_2013-02-01.csv"]}[Content],
        #"Imported CSV" = Csv.Document(#"d:\testdata\files\_Sales_2013-02-01 csv",null,",",null,1252),
        #"First Row as Header" = Table.PromoteHeaders(#"Imported CSV"),
        #"Changed Type" = Table.TransformColumnTypes(#"First Row as Header",{{"One", Int64.Type}, {"Two", type text}, {"Three", type text}})
    in
        #"Changed Type"
    For step 3, I need to take steps 3-5 of my query and convert them into a function. As a check, I can apply that function to the same file that I chose in step 2. The result looks like this:
    let
        Source = Folder.Files("d:\testdata\files"),
        Loader = (file) =>
            let
                #"Imported CSV" = Csv.Document(file,null,",",null,1252),
                #"First Row as Header" = Table.PromoteHeaders(#"Imported CSV"),
                #"Changed Type" = Table.TransformColumnTypes(#"First Row as Header",{{"One", Int64.Type}, {"Two", type text}, {"Three", type text}})
            in
                #"Changed Type",
        #"d:\testdata\files\_Sales_2013-02-01 csv" = Source{[#"Folder Path"="d:\testdata\files\",Name="Sales_2013-02-01.csv"]}[Content],
        Loaded = Loader(#"d:\testdata\files\_Sales_2013-02-01 csv")
    in
        Loaded
    Now I apply the same function to all of the rows, transforming the existing "Content" column into a new value:
    let
        Source = Folder.Files("d:\testdata\files"),
        Loader = (file) =>
            let
                #"Imported CSV" = Csv.Document(file,null,",",null,1252),
                #"First Row as Header" = Table.PromoteHeaders(#"Imported CSV"),
                #"Changed Type" = Table.TransformColumnTypes(#"First Row as Header",{{"One", Int64.Type}, {"Two", type text}, {"Three", type text}})
            in
                #"Changed Type",
        Transformed = Table.TransformColumns(Source, {"Content", Loader})
    in
        Transformed
    Finally, I need to expand out the columns in the table, which I can do by clicking on the expand icon next to the Content column header. The resulting query looks like this:
    let
        Source = Folder.Files("d:\testdata\files"),
        Loader = (file) =>
            let
                #"Imported CSV" = Csv.Document(file,null,",",null,1252),
                #"First Row as Header" = Table.PromoteHeaders(#"Imported CSV"),
                #"Changed Type" = Table.TransformColumnTypes(#"First Row as Header",{{"One", Int64.Type}, {"Two", type text}, {"Three", type text}})
            in
                #"Changed Type",
        Transformed = Table.TransformColumns(Source, {"Content", Loader}),
        #"Expand Content" = Table.ExpandTableColumn(Transformed, "Content", {"One", "Two", "Three"}, {"Content.One", "Content.Two", "Content.Three"})
    in
        #"Expand Content"
    From here, you should be able to get to what you want.

  • How to pass the table name dynamically in xml parsing

    Hi All,
    I have created one procedure for parsing xml file which is working perfectly.
    FORALL i IN t_tab.first .. t_tab.last
             INSERT INTO Test_AP VALUES t_tab(i);Now I want to put the table name dynamically+. For that I have added one query and modify above code as follow:-
    I have already declare dml_str varchar2(800) in declaration part.
    Query is as follows:-
    select table_name into tab_name from VERSION_DETAILS where SUBVERSION_NO=abc;  -- here abc is variable name which contains values.
    FORALL i IN t_tab.first .. t_tab.last
              dml_str := 'INSERT INTO ' || tab_name || ' values :vals';
              EXECUTE IMMEDIATE dml_str USING t_tab(i);But it's not working. How I will resolve this or through which way I achieved the intended results. Anyone can guide me on this matter.
    Thanks in advance for your help...

    Hi,
    But it's not working.Don't you think it would help to give the error message?
    Put the assignment before FORALL.
    FORALL only accepts one subsequent DML statement (static or dynamic SQL) :
    dml_str := 'INSERT INTO ' || tab_name || ' values :vals';
    FORALL i IN t_tab.first .. t_tab.last
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE dml_str USING t_tab(i);

  • How to include the file name in CV02N-change document in application field

    Hi
    Can anyone tell me what are the settings to be made in Document management system so that i'm able to change the application name(now if its an excel file its showing as excel file,instead of that,is it possible to change and give some name or description against that?)
    Suitable points will be rewarded.
    Thanks & regards
    Karthik.

    Hi Karthikraj,
    Do you want to change only in CV02N?
    i.e. only the description
    In Originals area below what you see are:
    <b>Appl</b>    <b>Application</b>      <b>Storage Cat</b>   then <b>Lock symbol</b>
    If you want to Change in "Application" just select and Right click on it you will see a details click on it and change the description you want ! thats it!
    If you want to change in "Appl." the you should follow the procedure what i told you previously.
    Try it both you will get any idea.(because i have done both, & its working fine)

  • How to get the Column names of output that is displaying in Sql Developer(Oracle 11g).

    Hi,
        I am using OCCI to interact with DB through code, which means I am writing a vc++ file to interact with Data Base and execute the Stored Procedure which I am calling from the C++ Code. And  also displaying the output of the Stored Procedures to the Front End. I am succeeded in this, but now I should be able to display  the Column names of the output to Front End. Can any one help me on this.
    Example:
    Sno  |   Sname
    ------- |-------------
    1          ABC
    2          DEF
    I am getting (1,ABC) and (2,DEF) as the output of the Stored Procedure but I need the Column names also to display. How to get them.
    Thanks in Advance..:)

    Look at Re: exporting csv via pl/sql - select statement?
    It has an example how to extract the column name from a cursor. You have to check, whether you can use DBMS_SQL.DESCRIBE_COLUMNS
    Your procedure might need another out parameter, that returns the column names , e.g. as comma separated list or as varray.

    import javax.activation.DataHandler.;
    import javax.xml.soap.*;
    import javax.xml.message.*;
    Iterator allAttachments = message.getAttachments();
    AttachmentPart ap1 = null;
    while(allAttachments.hasNext()){
    ap1 = (AttachmentPart)allAttachments.next();
    //Check that the attachment is correct one. By looking at its mime headers
    //Convert the attachment part into its DOM representation:
    if(ap1.getContentType() == "text/xml"){
    //Use the activation dataHandler class to extract the content, then create a StreamSource from
    //the content.
    DataHandler attachmentContent = ap1.getDataHandler();
    StreamSource attachmentStream = new StreamSource(attachmentContent.getInputStream());
    DOMResult domAttachment = getDOMResult(attachmentStream);
    domAttachment holds an xml representation of the attachment.
    Hope this helps.

  • If i know the extract strucute how to know the DS name

    Hi All,
    If i know the extract structure name how to find the DS name?
    Regards
    Kiran

    If it is for LO extractors we can identify the datasource based on the extract structure.
    say if the extract structure name is MC11VA0HDR , 11 will be the application component, VA is the event for salesorder , HDR gives the level of the data it is extracting .So in this case the data source name will be 2LIS_11_VAHDR.
    For MC12VC0ITM the data source will be 2LIS_12_VCITM(12 is the application for delivery ,VC the event for delivery)
    But for generic and other extractors it is not possible to know the datasource name by seeing the extractstructure. We will have all the datasources information in the roosurce table. Here we can check the datasource which is having that extract structure.

  • How to extract the column width in ALv report if its executed in background

    I have executed in background and checked the spool and  for some of the columns width is not sufficient to display comeplete data so please suggest how to extract the columns sizes if executed inj background for an ALV

    Hi Deepthi,
    you can try with the above mentioned suggestions ,if its worked its fine ,
    If not use Docking container instead of custom container, For ALV in back ground jobs, its suggest to use docking container instead of custom container , below you can find the declaration for docking container and code to use docking and custom container in your program for fore and back ground.
    or you can use docking container alone for both operations.

    Of course there is, if the user running it has "root" privileges (actually root userid or groupid if the permissions have been changed), but if you are going to do that, then why use the lookup at all, simply hardcode it in the program.
    If it is because you don't know how to do it, then I would say to find someone you know who can show you how. That is infinately easier than trying to explain the structure and purpose of the hosts file to you here.

  • How to chage the display name in SC browser for the custome fields?

    Hi,
    I created 2 custom fields for Shopping cart in SRM. How to chage the display name in SC browser for this custome fields?
    Thanks
    Kevin

    Hi Kevin,
    when you have defined your customer fields, you have created new fields in the CUF structures. The labels displayed on the SC screen come from the data element you have assigned to those cust fields in the include structure.
    If you have used a std data element, then you can change its translation (attention, this will impact all structures, tables... abap objects using this data element).
    If you have created a Z data element, then adapt its description accordingly.

    How to extract the date value of <IBOR date="12/12/2009">?

    Hi,
    The date is an attribute of element IBOR. So you must use "@date" in the xpath expression :
    WITH ibors AS (
    SELECT xmltype('<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <IBOR date="12/12/2009">
    <LIBOR currency="USD">
    <OneYear>1.38875</OneYear>
    </LIBOR>
    </IBOR>
    ') ibor_xml
    FROM dual
    SELECT i.ibor_date, i.ibor_oneyear
    FROM ibors,
    XMLTABLE(
    '//IBOR'
    PASSING ibors.ibor_xml
    COLUMNS
    ibor_date VARCHAR2(20) PATH '/IBOR/@date',
    ibor_oneyear VARCHAR2(20) PATH '/IBOR/LIBOR/OneYear'
    ) i;
