How to fix a Firefox menu display bug?

Clicking one of the drop down menus at the top, eg. file, tools, help, will display the entire Firefox window I have open instead of the usual options such as "Firefox help" etc. Obviously it is very small as it shrinks the entire window into that box until I move the mouse around, then I can see all Firefox options.
Have tried uninstalling, installing older versions(22 and 23) and resetting Firefox, seems to have happened after I installed an add-on.

Hello,
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
* You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
''When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.''
Thank you.

  • Menu display bug

i have a new 60gb i-pod video i've noticed that when i browse to music>artist and then to an artist that contains just one album it goes straight into that album rather than displaying a screen showing album options and 'all' as it does with an artist with more than one album. that's fine and i understand its a feature of the new i-pod but if you then 'back-up' from this back to the main artists menu the title bar at the top of the i-pod's display is now out of sink with the main display, for example back-up to the artists menu and the name of the artist you previously selected will be shown at the top rather than the word 'artists'. This is made worse as if you now go into an artist's folder which has more than one album as the incorrect artist's name remains at the top of the screen. this is very annoying and makes navigation difficult. is this a software bug, and are there any ideas how to fix it? thanks

  • Extra monitor w/laptop in office, when out of office how do I prevent Firefox from displaying on the non-existant 2nd screen?

When I am out of my office using my laptop, upon launching Firefox, it displays all of the tabs from the previous session on the non-existent extra monitor which is set up as a screen extention for when I am in my office. All of the other programs that I park on the extra monitor (Outlook for example) display on the laptop's screen when the extra monitor is not attached. Is this a bug? Or, must I not save my open tabs when exiting Firefox if I am going to use the laptop w/o the monitor?

Thanks for your suggestion. I sort of came to that conclusion as I was typing the original question. However if there is anyone out there who has a solution that is not dependent on my remembering to do something before I exit Firefox, it will be welcomed.

  • How to fix the firefox buttons not displaying correctly (i.e. the "save file" button when trying to install an add on)?

For example, the button for "save file" when downloading an add-on does not display correctly. It works nevertheless, but the button itself is not showing up correctly.
    *edit: sp errors*

It looks that you have made changes to the appearance of button that cause items and text to be larger.
In your case this doesn't seem to work properly with the consequence that the middle part of the button gets distorted.
I'm curious if this artifact would move to the other (Cancel) button or disappear if you would use the Tab key or cursor key to set focus to the Cancel button or if it is a problem with the label text that isn't default (OK or similar).

  • How can I prevent firefox from displaying an overall black page after I request a topic search in the google/firefox search box? Not able to see results

I loaded Mozilla v31 on my PC laptop which uses Windows XP operating system with all current updates. When I click on my internet icon, it leads me to the Mozilla page with a Google search bar. Once I type a topic in and click for the search to begin, the Firefox page turns all black and I am not able to see any results or action being taken. I click on the back arrow and enter a new topic, and click on search button, it repeats the same behavior and the Firefox page turns black. Essentially Mozilla Firefox is not a usable browser unless I can fix it. Help!

When this happens, has the address bar changed to a google.com address or is it still blank?
Some graphical glitches are caused by an incompatibility between Firefox and your graphics card drivers. The standard workaround for bypassing this is to disable Firefox from using hardware acceleration. You can make that change here:
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the "General" mini-tab, uncheck the box for "Use hardware acceleration when available"
That will take effect the next time you exit Firefox and start it up again.
    More generally:
When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    (1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
    (2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:
    * right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * (menu bar) Tools > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

  • How do I get Firefox to display the information bar when a pop up is blocked I accidentally clicked on "Don't show this message when pop-ups are blocked" when a pop up was blocked. How do I get this message to reappear again when a pop up is blocked?

I just updated Firefox but can't get it to display the message when a pop-up is blocked. Most times I want them blocked but sometimes I need them enabled.

You can see a pop-up block icon in the right corner of the Status Bar if you have chosen to hide the information bar at the top.
You can left-click that pop-up block icon on the Status Bar and remove the check mark from "Don't show info message when pop-ups are blocked"
You can look at these prefs on the '''about:config''' page and reset them via the right-click context menu:
    Status bar icon: browser.popups.showPopupBlocker
Info bar at the top: privacy.popups.showBrowserMessage
To open the ''about:config'' page, type '''about:config''' in the location (address) bar and press the Enter key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.

  • How do I get Firefox to display the full URI in the address bar?

I've seen this answer, but it doesn't fully fix the problem: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/951487
When I look at the address bar, I want to see the actual URI of the page I'm on, not some mangled version of it. In other words, I want to see the address in the form that is valid in an <a/> tag in XHTML.
Setting browser.urlbar.trimURLs to false fixes HALF of the problem, but not all of it. If I type in "http://example.com/filename%20with%20spaces.ext", I should see "http://example.com/filename%20with%20spaces.ext". However, I instead see "http://example.com/filename with spaces.ext". The "%20"s are converted into spaces, which are not valid in a real URI. How do I fix the address bar to show the real address of the page?
EDIT: It seems to me that if someone sets the trim setting to false, the URI should not be trimmed in ANY way. This includes the shortening of %20 to a space character. Is this a bug?

If it prevented the use of similar-looking characters, that would make sence, but it doesn't. Normally, the URI can only include ASCII characters. Any other character must be encoded. Due to this change, encoded characters are shown in their decoded form, CAUSEING URIs to be able to look like other URIs. Now that you mention it, this actually has the opposite effect as what you mentioned, and is actually a security problem. That's just one more reason why this issue should be fixed.

  • How can I get Firefox to display details about a JavaScript error when one occurs?

When in Internet Explorer I can set it up to display JavaScript errors as follows. Select Tools then Internet Options… then the Advanced tab. Under Browsing, find '''Display a notification about every script error '''and be sure its box is checked.
I cannot find out how to do this in Firefox. I would like for it to display details about JavaScript errors when they occur instead of doing nothing.

I chose Firefox as the primary browser for Adobe Dreamweaver's 'Preview in Browser' to display Web pages as I develop them. '''Firefox used to work just fine'''. • How to fix my firefox' s constant "not responding" issues?

Here's the deal. About last week, My firefox browser encountered some problems. Everytime I opened it, loading time was really long and when I opened a new tab either to open google search or to open another website, it didn't respond at all for about 30 secs or more. That was why I reinstalled firefox to see if it, hopefully, could be different somehow. Unfortunately, the problems now are not so different from what I have described, only now it's got a bit worse with the constant "not responding" and "freezing" in every tab I open - more or less than 30s PER TAB. I thought there was something wrong with my hardware or some features on my laptop, yet my google chrome still works. How does it still work? NO IDEA! But whenever my firefox freezes when I click on some links or a new tab, I turn over to GC and it still works really well so far. But I would prefer firefox to GC as my default browser since I'm more used to using it and a few features on it work better on the latter. So I would be really grateful if these issues are dealt with as soon and effectively possible. Thanks a lot :)

The "not responding" problem just started today. I removed and re-installed firefox. I disabled ALL the add-ins and the problem remains. I've been using Firefox for years probably starting with version 2. I guess this is the end of the line for me. Chrome is more popular so that's where I'm going. Bye...
Unfortunately I'm going to miss some of the great add-ins and the so easy to use bookmark system but I need a browser that works All the time. Bye, Bye..

  • When starting FireFox, a message is displayed "script error" message related to Chrome - FireFox will not start regardless of the answer I select - how can I get FireFox to display so I can turn off all plug-ins? Safe Mode does the same thing.

This problem isn't on this system - but a system I support at our church.
When FireFox is started the first display is the message "A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete. Script: chrome://tavgp/content/libs/include.js:1101". There are two option buttons - Continue and Stop Script. Selecting either button closes that window - BUT the FireFox window is never displayed.

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
*Download the full Firefox installer and save the file to the desktop<br>https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/
If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    *(32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
    *(64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure NOT to remove personal data when you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.
If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.
