hi, i was wondering if anyone could tell me if it's possible to give me a solution to this
i would like to have all sound by system or other applications disabled while itunes is playing
when itunes is closed, i would like all system and app sounds enabled
the purpose is to be able to hook up my mac to my stereo and listen to music without having any annoying sounds interrupting the music

Detour is a free app (no longer in development) that can reroute audio from different applications to different places (for example, I've got iTunes playing through my headphone jack and everything else through some USB speakers).
I'm not sure if this is of any use to you, but hopefully it is.

the error is @the importer reported a generic error'
when i select the file to import it shows .MTS, in the error message it shows .m4a
all a bit confusing.
The first line of the above is consisted with having to convert the iTunes music to another format, preferred .wav (DMR or other reasons)
But there is something wrong with that second sentence. I have never seen iTunes music with an .mts file extension. Typically you see that with a video file with AVCHD compression (1080 variety). So, please take another look at the properties of the file that you are trying to import...video or audio? On the other hand, m4a is a MPEG 4 audio file.
Could you do a screenshot of the error message where you are seeing ".m4a" in it?

I've recently upgraded to a macbook Pro and I copied all data, profiles etc across from my old macbook. I have also created a second account in my mackbook Pro. I am able to play my iTunes music from the external HD in the 'old' account, but not in the 'new' account, despite trying what you've said above. On the external HD, there are two folders: iTunes music and iTunes media. I have tried selecting each of these, but both times, I get this message: "An iTunes library file could not be found in the folder "iTunes Media". Please choose a different folder." ... When you are done with this issue, consider the computer back at the office may still
have access to your iTunes account, and it should be de-auhorized. You can do that
remotely, but be sure you carefully do not mess up your other computer iTunes libraries.

Found a solution, but it's not ideal or what I was really requesting. However it will work for now.
Add the "Kind" column and sort by "ACC Purchased audio file" and you can get what you need.
I was really looking for a shell script to do this.... If anyone has a way of doing this let me know.

There's a couple of ways to get through to the authorisation controls in the 11.0.x versions.
The control is still in the Store menu, but first (if you're using iTunes versions 11.0.x) you might need to bring up the menu bar to see the Store menu.
If you're using 11.0.x, click on the wee boxy icon up in the top-left corner of your iTunes to see the "Show Menu Bar" control, as per the following screenshot:

If you have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar. Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar. The sidebar is where Devices appears. and Control+B to show the Menu bar
To import music into your iTunes library on the computer go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Add items to iTunes and follow the instructions
To sync to your iPod go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync your iPod....>Sync You Device and follow the instructions.

Were you connecting regulary up until a week ago? I have noticed that I have gotten a lot of those messages tonight. May the iTune site is very busy? (a lot of iTunes cards given out today)
I closed iTunes and then re-opened and it helped. My connections have been intermittent at best tonight.

On what computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 12 working on? Have you updated it from 12 to 12.1 Update using an opened project's Help Menu/Update. If not, please do so.
For your immediate problem.
What is the model/settings for the JVC camera that recorded you video. I want to get at the properties of your source video including the file extension.
Since you are getting video, but no audio, please download and install the free codec utility named GSpot to see what is shows
for your Audio Name and Status.

The other properties of the file there would also be of interest.
When you import your source file into the project, do you see any "conforming" activity going in a progress bar at the bottom right corner of the workspace?
If so, do you wait for it to complete before you move forward in the project?
Can you get sound in any of your Premiere Elements projects with this current JVC file or other?
Can we assume that your troubleshooting has included checking
a. Volume control within the project
b. Edit Menu/Preferences/Audio Hardware ASIO
Let us start here and then we can decide what next if necessary.

iTunes is a native iOS app and cannot be deleted. It is probably on another home page or in a folder. Search to see if you find it, and if not, then go to Settings, General, Reset, Reset Home Screen Layout. That should bring it back. The only other thing is if you have turned on Restrictions and have iTunes restrictions turned on.
