How to give a profile a default mimetypes.rdf file?

Hello,
I'm deploying Mozilla Firefox 31ESR on thousands of computers. I'm looking for a way to pre-configure how firefox handle the mimetypes. For instance, to open pdf with Adobe Acrobat Reader.
To achieve this, I put a mimetypes.rdf file in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\browser\defaults\profile".
When the profile is created, this file is copied, then modified.
The lines:
<RDF:Description RDF:about="urn:mimetype:handler:application/pdf"
NC:useSystemDefault="true"
NC:alwaysAsk="false" />
Becomes:
<RDF:Description RDF:about="urn:mimetype:handler:application/pdf"
NC:handleInternal="true"
NC:alwaysAsk="false" />
-If I replace manually the file "mimeTypes.rdf" in the newly created profile, it works perfectly.
It seems to be the same problem as: https://support.mozilla.org/fr/questions/1015378
Why is the mimetypes.rdf file modified? How can I set a mimetype policy?
Thanks a lot!

It works for me with both the user.js file and your mimeTypes.rdf file.

  • How does firefox create the default mimetypes.rdf file?

    Hi, I am trying to update the default mimetypes.rdf file to add a list of new file types and the associated program to launch with but am struggling to find where/how the default mimetypes.rdf file is created.
    The Omni.ja file within 'C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox' has a version of the file but it is blank, what populates this file?
    I have tried replacing this file with the version we need to use, delete the Mozilla directory from my local profile and re-launch Firefox, but the newly generated mimetypes.rdf file is still the old version.
    I am using Firefox version 10.0.6

    Hi,
    I am in the same situation than you but I forced firefox to take my own file if I remove it from my profile.
    What i did:
    1 Create my own custom mimetypes.rdf file. Firefox Interface - Options - Options - Applications...
    2 Copy mimetypes.rdf in C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\browser\Defaults\profile
    So, if I remove the mimetypes.rdf file from my profile it takes from default location fine. However deleting the profile, opening firefox again it doesn´t use my own mymtypes.rdf file in the new profile, insteant it creates the "default installation" one.
    On the other hand, I tried to set pdfjs.disabled = true from about:config, however although it sets the default PDF app "Adobe Acrobat", it doesn´t work. It doesn´t open any pdf file.
    I am thinking to create an advertised shortcut in order to replace the mimetype.rdf when the user starts firefox (I distribute the firefox settings in a MSI) depending of the date of the file but it will take a few seconds each time the user run firefox. I really don´t like it...
    Sorry for don´t help too much...
    If anyone could post how firefox create mimetypes.rdf in new profiles...

    Finder / Preferences / General ... change this

  • "use pdf reader name" choice is not shown even after deleting "mimetypes.rdf" file

    Multiple tabs open when attempting to open PDF files. Have updated Acrobat Reader to latest version X. Have followed trouble shooting instructions to select from drop-down menu the choice "use pdf reader name" (tools-options-application- Adobe). Followed the additional instruction to delete the "mimetypes.rdf" file if the "use pdf reader name" choice does not appear. Have deleted the file, and the "use pdf reader name" choice still does not appear. Can't open pdf files

    Hi tulip,
    I have changed the product because it seems that you are taking about the Firefox for Desktop Browser. If this is incorrect please post back with a correction.
    I also understand that you are downloading songs, and instead of the save dialogue, you are being taken to a black page to play the song. Please see if this happens in Safe Mode, as well when you troubeshoot any default programs if you are using Windows.

    Please try this:
    # Right click on the sound file/link
    # Select, Save Audio as
    # Select the file to download it in and click save.

  • I trashed my mimetypes.rdf file to reset download actions, and now Firefox won't open because profile missing, please advise

    Up until recently, when I would download a pdf file, it would automatically open, and recently, for some reason, it stopped opening automatically and just downloaded to my desktop where I wanted it. I found instructions on Mozilla if files downloaded but not displayed, that included displaying my profile folder and then deleting it. I trashed it (different from deleting?) and now if I try to open Firefox, I get the message that Firefox can't open/load because profile is missing. Please advise how I can get the profile folder back in.
    thanks

    Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
    See "Creating a profile":
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
    If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

  • How to set color profile when exporting a RAW file version as a JPEG?

    I import my raw files to Aperture and when exporting as a JPEG I want to specify a color profile of sRBG. I cannot see how to set the color profile for the export. Does anyone know how to do this?

    When you go to export versions, edit the presets, and there is a drop down box that lets you select the profile.
    I'd suggest picking up the Aperture book by Luna, Long, and Harrington. Lots of great info there.

    And i am having problems...
    The exe file takes one input and appends to it "1235" (ITS A TEST CASE).

    Pls help
    Here is the code for that EXE file. (its in C)
    #include<stdio.h>

            ("C:\\users\\Untitled3.exe");
           BufferedWriter   out=new BufferedWriter(new OutputStreamWriter(p.getOutputStream()));
              out.write("dfgsfs\n");
              time= java.lang.System.nanoTime();

          BufferedReader input =new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(p.getInputStream()));
         while ((line = input.readLine()) != null) {
            System.out.println(input.readLine());
          input.close();
        catch (Exception err) {
          err.printStackTrace();
    }PLS HELP

    I see a problem in your C code. You're not flushing stdout after you printf and that usually means java is not seeing whats your C program is printing.
    removing the loop probably works because stdout is being flushed right before exit.
    I used a perl script to test your stuff and found that flushing made the trick
    #!/usr/bin/perl
    open(OUTFILE,">>./output.txt");
    $| = 1;
    while (<STDIN>) {
        if (m/.*error.*/) {
            print STDERR  $_;
        } else {
            print STDOUT  $_;
        print OUTFILE $_;
        if (m/exit/) {
            last;
    close(OUTFILE);
    exit;notice "$| =1;" that autoflushes in perl (just in case you were wondering where my flush call went)
    Enjoy!

    Yes. I am using OJC compiler instead of javac.
    Should I enable Remote Debugging and profiling? If so how to start the profiler, by default it is trying to connect port 8000 on localhost. Am I doing something wrong?

  • Firefox is creating endless copies of C:\Documents and Settings\Catain Kirk\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\afbrfhnj.default\Cache ... how do I stop it

    I just installed 9.0.1 and it continually creates copies of C:\Documents and Settings\Catain Kirk\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\afbrfhnj.default\Cache ... how do I stop it !!!
    I'm running Windows XP Version 5.1 SP3.

    Hi,
    That is the disk cache of Firefox, where contents of loaded pages are kept for faster retrieval and it also helps to conserve bandwidth. To disable this: '''Tools''' ('''Alt''' + '''T''') > '''Options''' > '''Advanced''' > '''Network''', check (tick) '''Override automatic cache management ''' and put the value at zero.

  • How do I make sure all the damage is cleaned up from the PricePeep virus found at my c:....Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\mxqsa88f.default\searchplugins\search.xml?

    I used the SpyHunter 4 free scan to locate 2 files that were being hijacked by the virus. I was able to remove the first file from the add-on file in Firefox. I know I can uninstall Firefox, then reinstall it, but how can I tell if the virus has damaged other files on my computer? Thank you! I currently use Norton, spybot and adaware. Thanks.

    Which files do you see in that folder?
    *Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\mxqsa88f.default\searchplugins\
    This folder stores user installed search engines and if you haven't installed ones yourself the this folder should be empty and you can remove (delete) existing files.
    You can delete the search.json file and possible search-metadata.json and search.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder to reset the search engines to the default.
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
    Firefox will rebuild the search.json file from the default search engines in the "browser\searchplugins" folder in the Firefox program folder and the searchplugins folder in the Firefox profile folder.

  • How do I locate 5/20/2011 1:05:09 AM Packed: Swf2Swc C:\Documents and Settings\User\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\3xe4911x.default\Cache\F\0D\C12DFd01 and what does it mean?

    I am just wondering how I can locate this ~5/20/2011 1:05:09 AM Packed: Swf2Swc C:\Documents and Settings\User\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\3xe4911x.default\Cache\F\0D\C12DFd01~ what is it and what are profiles...on mozilla I have someone remotly doing things to my computer I didn't sign up for,

    1. This is where your main Profile folder is located:
    C:\Documents and Settings\myname\'''Application Data'''\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default
    2. Secondary location:
    C:\Documents and Settings\myname\'''Local Settings\Application Data'''\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default
    No, don't delete that folder or the files in it. Those files would be re-created the next time you open Firefox. Those files are necessary.
    3. Firefox put that file there, so it knows its' there. Delete it and Firefox will download that data all over again, and put it back in that folder.
    4. Bookmarks are stored in the '''places.sqlite''' file in the main Profile folder, since the Firefox 3 versions.
    Some of those files have been moved around from one major version of Firefox to the next to improve various aspects of "performance" and also to minimize file size for automated personal data backup purposes & for roaming Profiles in a large network setting. The urlclassifier file can get to be quite large, which could really screw-up roaming Profiles on a network server.

  • How come File : C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\F\Profiles\h4n7abn.default\prefs.js still registers as infection even though uninstalled Firefox?

    Already asked but at the time did not register to see if any reply forthcoming, so here is the simple question again:
    "C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\h4nh7abn.default\prefs.js" keeps coming up on my computer as a malware item even though I have completely uninstalled Firefox.
    How can this be?!?
    I uninstalled all Firefox remnants with a good uninstaller. Re-booted. I've also run scans, including the JRT scan recommended on another mozilla support page, yet it still keeps coming back as though Firefox is still on my computer, even in relation to the "JRT scan"... This is weird...what to do?
    --Avast antivirus, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, Hitman Pro, JRT scanner, CCleaner, etc., installed, Vista - 32 bit.

    Sounds like a false positive.<br />
    The prefs.js file only stores modified prefs and no code (data) that can run and be harmful that way.
    It is usually best to exclude the Firefox profile folder from scanning to prevent such software from corrupting files in the Firefox profile folder.
