How to grant database user to access directory under web server

Hi
I'm running forms6i application on Oracle9iAS.
This application access to several directories using WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT procedure.
I add this directories to UserDir directive in httpd.conf and I also made an Alias (virtual path).
The problem is that all users can access to that directory.
Can I eliminate access to the directories just for particulare users?

Pl refer to the httpd.conf file
and for the directory tag assign deny all,grant all will
solve ur prob...
if possible pl let me know..
how u have configured ur forms appln on oracle 9iAS using apache
server....
i have tried but it gives me error about the forms engine..
how do i make apache server know about the forms60/f60all.cab
and other required configuration files

How can i restrict user to access database object (procedure) or JSP

I have 9ias infrastructure 902, on win2k box with 9i DB.
and I have one PL/SQL web application and another J2EE application both are hosted by 9ias 902.
Now we are looking forward to couple both with SSO.
I have deloyed samples of both and works fine.
Each application have different set of users, i mean there is no common user.
How can i restrict user not to view the web page which is not authorised to them.
as far as i understand from the Grocery demo is pick the role (which is a string only) from OID and programaticall apply security via if else endif construct.
can any one through light upto my concern.

as the our application is j2ee app... deployed in oc4j.. with sso and ldap....
still finding to do so....
what i have realized that LDAP is just to store user information in inverted tree... and one have to build separated access security mechnisum that will be applicable to j2ee system....

How to preserve database user details before cloning,
I am cloning the test database with the prod database, so my concern is how to preserve the users details which they have in TEST database( like roles, privilges, profiles , passwords, etc.....). Because that all gone after cloning from PROD.

How to send a user defined parameter to a web form?

I4m looking for a solution how to send a user defined parameter to a web form when I start the form from a html-page.
I think that it should work to add the parameter to the URL.
Example: I added myparam=myvalue at the end oft the URL

You have the user the otherParams parameter, which you can specify in the formsweb.cfg file, or override on the url. e.g. http://myhost/servlet/f690servlet?config=myApp&otherParams=myParam=myValue
In the Forms Builder, in the Navigator window, there is a node called Parameters. Create one in there, and then you can refer to it like a block variable. e.g. if :myparam = 'myvalue' then...
At runtime, Forms will match up any parameters on the command with parameters defined in your form, and populate them for you. You don't have to do anything.

How can I allow users to access SQLPLUS?

Hi everyone,
I have been charged with the task of creating an Oracle server on a CentOS VM. Installation and configuration is complete and SQL is working fine for the database admin user "oracle." I copied the environment variables to the .bashrc file for "oracle" and SQLPLUS starts without a hitch.
Here is where I need a little guidance...
I need to create basic Linux user accounts that will have access to the database, so they can then in turn log into their SQLPLUS accounts. The problem is, all of the database files and software are in located in the user "oracle's" directory. This means that no one but "oracle" and root have access to these files because they are the only ones with proper permissions.
Before I put a ton of time into this, I thought I would pose these questions to the Oracle Linux community:
1) Could I enable a specific Linux group (ex. "Oracle Users") to have access to the main database folder or possibly all folders along the path? I am hoping this would allow any users I put in the group access to the folders, and essentially the SQLPLUS application. (here is ORACLE_HOME=/home/oracle/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1)
2) If that is not an option, will I need to make a completely new database and locate it in a location that all users can access?
I understand that my first idea may not be the SAFEST method, but this is only for a small class of students learning how to use SQL and writing queries. There will be no sensitive information at risk. This would be a quick fix until I learned more about Oracle and how to use it.

It certainly is rather a question for the General Database forum, though I doubt you will get a lot of happy replies for such a basic question.
You can use / as sysdba OS authentication through SSH or using the server console, provided the user's account belongs to the "dba" user group. For remote connection through sqlnet you need create a $ORACLE_HOME/dbs/orapw$SID password file.
If you would like to know more about this:
Connecting / as sysdba is used for OS authentication. It ignores password credentials stored in the database and allows any user belonging to the OSDBA system group to connect to the database. Connections as sysdba will always connect to the SYS schema of the database, regardless of any username or password specified. Using OS authentication relies on the BEQ protocol, which connects to the database directly, without using the Oracle Listener process.
The "oinstall" group will give access to the database software repository. There could be different oracle home installations, each with a different oracle user/owner like "oracle_prod1" and "oracle_prod2", but both users must be able to read/write the shared oraInventory, in which case both users must have read and write access to the oraInventory directory, hence the oinstall group.

How to setup database user for windows NT SSO

We have a scenario where we have to setup a database user so that SSO can be worked in windows environment.
We have oracle 10g installed on UNIX server. Now we want to setup a autosys user which will also be a winows user for eg by the name kumaral and domain (which is Logon option in windows) will be FM, so eventually user name will be FM\kumaral. Autosys will be on windows machine and we have installed oracle client on this machine.
On oracle database we have created two user by following syntax:
(1) CREATE USER "OPS$FM\KUMARAL" IDENTIFIED EXTERNALLY;
(2) CREATE USER "OPS$FM\kumaral" IDENTIFIED EXTERNALLY;
Also we have provided connect grant to these users.
GRANT CONNECT TO "OPS$FM\KUMARAL".
GRANT CONNECT TO "OPS$FM\kumaral".
I am login in windows through FM\kumaral user, but we are not able to connect to oracle through this user, we are trying to connect to oracle from below mentioned query:
sqlplus /
but we are not able to connect.
Can someone please help me on this?

I have a problem to determine a user's home directory in Solaris system.
for example, I know the username as "smith", how can I know smith's
home directory (the absolute path string)? pls help me...

if the user is the one running the program, you can always get the home directory using System.getProperties ("user.home");
If you are trying to get the properties of another user, you could try using setProperties to change the user name first, before getiting the home directory, but it probably won't work because of the security manager. You could read the /etc/passwd file and parse the path out, but once again, the user of the code would have to have appropriate permission.

If user B owns tables, then it will have select, insert, update, delete on those tables.
Maybe user B should just have synonyms of user A tables, and select priveleges on user A tables ?

How to create individual user to access the proxy service in osb

i have created a osb project. i need only one user to access the project with particular user name and password. The project should result in error if any other credentials is being given.
The challenging part is that it should return a error message even when the user name and password is left blank. can anybody help me to resolve this issue?

I'm guessing you're getting a 401 error back in soapUI. If so, this is because soapUI needs to send some credentials which match that user exactly.
How would that user invoke the service normally - with an embedded WSS user / password in the request, or with an x509 cert + Identity Assertion? SoapUI will have to do the same as the client application does.
In our environment, we use client certificates as authentication. Soapui is very good at presenting a client certificate if you have a .jks keystore with an identity cert. Since the role will only accept a single particular user, you would either have to expand the role to allow some admin access or have a certificate which presents the same CN value ( to map with identity assertion).
If the client app uses username / password, the 'request properties' window ( lower left in soapui ) has properties for Username and Password which can be configured. This may allow soapUI to submit that user, but I haven't tested that.
There's also the "Aut" tab in the request window which also allows the same.

How to restrict the user from accessing other screens before submittingdata

I have some screens developed in Webdynpro ABAP and all these have been linked to Portal as pages. In Portal If i click on the link in detailed navigation i can see the corresponding screen on the right side. Now in one screen i have to input some data and submit the data, Now my problem is if i enter some data and before submitting the data if i click on any other link in the detailed navigation, that corresponding screen is opening and all the data of the previous screen is lost.
Can any one suggest me, how can i restrict the user from accessing other screens before submitting the data of that screen from portal perspective.

The pages can be restricted from the user access by using the ACL permission or you can restrict the page by making invisible in navigation area which you do not want to show to the user . Open the page properties and select navigation category in the drop down and select the Invisible in navigation area property to yes.By default this property is No.Change the property for all pcd pages which want to hide from user access.
