How to handle Select List that also needs data entry?

I have a few "Data Entry" situations that can I would like to be able to use a "Select List with Submit" but also allow the user to type in a new value. What is a method to handle this from the data entry perspective?
Example:
Database table contains columns:
ClassName
AttributeName
A new AttributeName is going to be added to this table. The AttributeName could either be added into an existing Class or a new Class could be created. If the new Attribute is being added to an existing Class, I would like to select the value from a "Select List" populated from distinct ClassNames from this table (this part works easy with a Select List with Submit). If the Attribute is being created in a New Class, I am not sure the best approach to handle it? I have experimented with the popup LOV and it is not a perfect fit.

I have done a similar implementation in my app. I have a region with a select list with submit, and a button saying "create new data". I have another region on the page with a form, based on my table. If something is selected in the select list, I populate the form using a pl/sql block. If the button "create new" is clicked, i clear the form and allow the user to enter data, and run a conditional insert pl/sql.

Drive Utility Help Viewer "does not know how to handle selected URL"

I have Drive Utility 10.5.6, according to . I'm trying to reformat a FAT32 partition on an external drive to Mac OS X Ext. Journaled in preparation for using SuperDuper to back up my Mac HD boot partition. For a time, which seems to have passed, now that erasing the partition has been done. The Disk Utility Help wouldn't work. Instead of putting up topic information, I got a message saying "Help Viewer does not know how to handle selected URL", followed by an reference to an html file that allegedly existed inside a set of folders inside the app. Where, of course, Finder cannot see. Once the erasing was done, Help seems to have come back. I tried Apple Support, but could only get a reference to OS 9 Appleworks macros not working in OS X. No help at all. Is this a question? I don't know. Help is working now. But for a while it was very annoying. It must be one of those little windows glitches that no one ever bothered to fix.

In order to change a FAT or NTFS formatted drive for use with OS X you will need to do the following:
Extended Hard Drive Preparation
1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
If you have an Intel Mac and can partition the drive using GUID then you can have FAT32 and OS X partitions on the same drive.

In most cases doing the following will restore the Help Viewer:
1. Trash the following three files, if extant:
/Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.help.plist
/Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.helpui.plist

2. Trash the /Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.helpui folder.
3. Empty the Trash and Restart.

Hi - I'm a JSP newbie (coming from a PHP background), and am trying to create a select list that contains the current year, plus 5 years. So, the list when generated (today), would display:

Obviously, the code would need to generate inside the option tags, as well as in the value property of the option tag.

Select list that is dependent on another select list with ajax

I have a select list that contains it (ajax)

Select list that displays the next 12 months worth of Mondays

I recently needed a select list that would allow you to choose from a years worth on Mondays starting with the current week's Monday. It will return the date of that Monday. I thought others might be able to use this too... Plus I wanted to be able to find this in the future.

I posted the above all proud of myself for figuring out the SQL to do the above, went into APEX to build my LOV and I get the following:
LOV query is invalid, a display and a return value are needed, the column names need to be different. If your query contains an in-line query, the first FROM clause in the SQL statement must not belong to the in-line query.
Is there a way to get APEX to allow me to use the above query as an LOV?

By default when you use the selection mode for the ALV as Multi/Mutli No Lead then this option is enabled.
Try to implement the event ONLEADSELECT and check wether this event is triggered or not.
DATA: lo_value type ref to cl_salv_wd_config_table.

        value = cl_wd_table=>e_selection_mode-multi_no_lead.
Try to implement these event for ALV and put a break-point and test which event is getting triggered.

How to make a list item field with DATE data type?

I have a column with DATE data type. Using forms 6i I want to generate a poplist list item field with this column while the value of the elements in the list to will be day names like SATURDAY,SUNDAY,MONDAY. if we change the data type from date to char, it will work properly but now with DATE data type behind it, it gives the following error message

Set your date column as a hidden (non-displayed) field. Create your list item with the varchar2 day names. Create the list item as a non-base-table field that accepts the text values of day names. On that field, create a when-validate-item trigger that translates the text into a real date, which it then uses to set the value of the actual base-table item.

How Do I Filter a Report Using a Multi Select List Box and Specifying Date Between Begin Date and End Date

Hope someone can help. I have tried to find the best way to do this and can't seem to make sense of anything. I'm using an Access 2013 Database and I have a report that is based on a query. I've created a Report Criteria Form. I
need the user to be able to select multiple items in a list box and also to enter a Begin Date and End Date. I then need my report to return only the records that meet all selected criteria. It works fine with a ComboBox and 1 selection but can't

I haven't tested this at all, so it may not work, but the first thing that springs to mind is not returning the two dates, base it on the current date, i.e. have your select list return something like -
Last Week - Return 'W'
Last Month - Return 'M'
Last Year - Return 'Y'
then use a query something like -

          CASE v ('ITEM')
             WHEN 'W'

Jdev 10.1.2 UIX: How to handle page event and also follow link destination

Hello guys, I think this should be easy:
I have a frame with a link that produces an event which is handled by an event handler. But this link also has destination and targetFrame attributes.
The event handling just updates the visual state of the frame which contains the link, but I also need the link to load the destination into the targetFrame, but this is not happening, just the event is handled but the link doesn't work.
How can I get both, the event handling and the destination, work?

Thanks to everyone who read it. I figured out how to solve this.
The workaround was to set every link destination to one action which performs 2 things:
1. Update the visual state of the first frame (setting attributes to a session object) and;
2. Puts the destination that I wanted to be loaded into the second frame as a request attribute;
besides all the above, the link had its targetFrame set to "_parent", so the Frameset page was reloaded and therefore reloaded both frames, this way the first frame renders updated (thanks to the changes made to the session object) and the second frame has its source attribute bound to ${requestScope.frameDestination} to load the desired page (actually a struts action).
Hope this helps someone else.

i added readonly attribute to the select list's element attibute ...it is showing as read only field by darkening the select list field but ... the select list is editable even now... its allowing to choose from drag and drop ...

I have a select list on a editable form and i want to make that one read only.
When I use read only property it doent do anything. (But this is working for text items well).
When I use "disabled' option it works fine. But then that value does not post when use POST the form. So making select list disabled is not a solution.
Any Idea..

How-To populate SELECT LIST default value from SQL Query

OK, I've done my homework, and did not find my answer in the Forum, so here it is.
I have a Page that displays fields from a SQL Query. The Page also has below that radiogroups, checkboxes, and Select Lists to allow the user to change values in the fields that are displayed at the top of the Region. I am able to pre-populate the radiogroups and checkboxes by performing a SELECT in the 'Source value or expression' of the Source area of the Page Item.
However, I am unable to do the same for the Select List fields. Their default value ends up being the first value in the LOV ('-- None --' for NULL values). Source Used: Only when current value in session state is null. Source Type: SQL Query. Also, when I first go into the Page when running it, and check the Session State values, they are all null, so I don't understand why the field is not populated by the SQL Query statement as the radiogroups and checkboxes are.
Any suggestions??? I've tried all sorts of combinations.

I had considered that, but cannot do so, because we are using Oracle Application Express more for development than for data containment.
We have all our data in an Oracle 10.g DB which is separate from the OAEX server, and the OAEX app will reference that data via VIEWs and DB LINKs. We are doing so primarily as an added data security layer, where the data is housed separate from the app, in case the Web site is ever compromised. The data that can be viewed is restricted to a subset of the actual data that is available.
Since the data is on a separate server, (I assume) we will not be able to set the source type to Database column, because (I asume) that is dependent upon the data being housed by the OAEX server.
That still leaves me with having to populate the field with a SELECT statement from the Oracle DB. This unfortuneately is almost a show-stopper for me because of down-stream processing data requirements. Have not been able to come up with contingencies yet.

How to make Select List Read only (Keep key Data)

I'd like to make a select list read only when the screen is in maintenance mode because the select list value is part of the key.
However, when I make the select list read only, the update fails because it appears making it disable lose's it's value.
How can I make a select list read only and keep it's value for update.

When I click apply changes, my Validation check that doesn't allow nulls in the "P5_LTY" fires saying the field can't be null. The select list is grayed out and I see the value, but the validation check thinks it's null.
