How to hot deploy EJB in Weblogic?

Hi all,
We use Weblogic 10.3 and EJB3.
EJB has been build as ear and deployed in the server. And other deployed modules in server calls that.
But the modification of EJB need to be rebuilt and restart the server.
Does Weblogic support hot deploy for EJB? Do we need plugin or something else for this feature?
Thanks a lot.

Hi,
The production redeployment strategy/hot deployment is supported for:
a. Standalone Web Application (WAR) modules and Enterprise applications (EARs) whose clients access the application via a Web application (HTTP).
b. Enterprise applications that are accessed by inbound JMS messages from a global JMS destination, or from inbound JCA requests.
c. All types of Web Services, including conversational and reliable Web Services, but not 8.x Web Services.
Production redeployment is not supported for:
a. Standalone EJB or RAR modules. If you attempt to use production redeployment with such modules, WebLogic Server rejects the redeployment request. To redeploy such modules, remove their version identifiers and explicitly redeploy the modules.
b. Applications that use JTS drivers. For more information on JDBC application module limitations, see JDBC Application Module Limitations in Configuring and Managing JDBC for Oracle WebLogic Server.
c. Applications that obtain JDBC data sources via the DriverManager API; in order to use production redeployment, an application must instead use JNDI to look up data sources.
d. Applications that include EJB 1.1 container-managed persistence (CMP) EJBs. To use production redeployment with applications that include CMP EJBs, use EJB 2.x CMP instead of EJB 1.1 CMP.

  • Exploded (hot) deployment  on a Weblogic cluster

    AFAIK, exploded hot deployment on a Weblogic cluster is not supported through OEPE.
    When deploying an application on a cluster, each change, no matter how small, forces you to republish these changes, ultimately causing the application to be redeployed by OEPE. Turnaround time for this (depending on the app) can take some time.
    Is there a workaround available for this ?
    I'm looking for a way to minimize the turnaround time between developing code, and actual seeing the code changes on the screen. The requirement however is that deployments should be possible on a managed instance / cluster (non AdminServer).
    Does Oracle Weblogic support such "hot deployment" capabilities from an IDE like Eclipse ? Does anybody here have such a process in place ? (perhaps using ant / maven2 tooling)

    Hi
    I  want  to  clarify that the  application has to be  deployed  to  a cluster  of  two managed  servers, amandad_Server_1 (On Windows  server hosting  console) and amandad_Server_2 which is running  in  other Windows  server.
    I deployed  the application  following  your  recdommendations and the  resulta is  as  follows:
    Windows  server (running the  console)
    1  EAR  file  was copied to  ...  \user_projects\domains\amanda_domain\servers\amandad_Server_1\stage
    2.  The application files  extractected  from the EAR files  were  copied to   \user_projects\domains\amanda_domain\servers\amandad_Server_1\tmp
    Windows  Server not  runn ing the  console
    No files  were copied to neither
    ... \user_projects\domains\amanda_domain\servers\amandad_Server_2\stage
         \user_projects\domains\amanda_domain\servers\amandad_Server_2\tmp
    Questions
    1  Windows  server  not running the console  the  files  were  not  copied....What  might  cause  this behaviour....? how to  fixi it...?
    2. Do I have  to  manaully copy  the  files  to  folders

  • Procedure for hot deploying EJBs using  Jdeveloper and OC4J comtainer

    i am using JDeveloper , please any one help me out in hot deploying EJBs. what is the procedure if i want to hot deploy EJBS

    1) You have to start OC4J with higher Java heap size e.g. java -Xms100m -Xmx150m -jar oc4j.jar
    2) The RMI port by default used is 23791 and configurable by modifying config/rmi.xml.

  • How to edit deployment descriptor in weblogic 9.0?

    Hi ,
    I need to edit the values of certain environment variables mentioned in the deployment descriptor of a ejb module.
    In weblogic 7,its a straight forward method in which we have the option to edit the deployment descriptor in weblogic console.
    But I'm not sure how the same can be done in weblogic 9.0.
    Please guide me..!!! its urgent...
    Thanks,
    Smita

    If you want to edit the actual deployment descriptor (ie as a developer) than using any text editor or using an IDE like WebLogic Workshop/Eclipse etc would be the way to go.
    If you're trying to change values in an already deployed application, then configuration and tunables can be changed in the admin console. These write the changes to a separate file called a deployment plan. It allows you to change performance and environment settings without disturbing the original EAR file.

  • Hot deployment problems with weblogic 7.0 sp2

    Hi Guys
    I am trying out hot deplyment of a j2ee application on WebLogic Server 7.0 SP2
    Approach 1
    The application is deployed in exploded ear format from the folder
    d:/work/testbed/ear. The appropriate entry in config.xml looks like this.
    <Application Deployed="true" Name="Testbed"
    Path="D:\tools\bea702\projects\testbed\applications\testbed"
    StagedTargets="" TwoPhase="false">
    <EJBComponent Name="SessionBeans" Targets="myserver" URI="SessionBeans.jar"/>
    </Application>
    Creating or touching the REDEPLOY file in META-INF folder doesnt cause hot
    deployment to occur
    Approach 2
    Copied the ear file to the applications folder. Creating or touching the
    REDEPLOY file in META-INF file caused the application to be redeployed.
    However the weblogic console is constantly spitting out this message.
    Undeploying EJB Component SessionBeans

    It seems that the application is getting undeployed and reactivated every 5
    seconds.
    Questions
    1) Any reasons why approach 1 didnt work
    2) What could be causing this constant undeployment and reactivation
    Thanks for your time
    anand

    I think I figured out what is causing the application to be redployed every 5
    seconds. It seems that if the application is deployed in the weblogic domains
    applications folder you should NOT create a <Application element. Weblogic
    automatically recognizes all applications in this folder and deploys them.
    Removing the application entry (as shown in Approach 1) from the config.xml
    and hot deploying by touching the REDEPLOY file did the trick.
    One question still remains. Is hot deployment only possible when I copy the
    exploded ear to the domain "applications" folder
    Thanks for your time
    anand
    ps : The idea of trying it without the <Application element came from trying
    out hot deployment in Weblogic 8. WLS8 first deploys the application in the
    applications folder, followed by the application configured in the
    <Application element. Since both the applications were essentially the same it
    gave me a JNDIException saying that some entity is already bound with the same
    name. Weblogic 7 however doesnt complain at this point.

    This may happen because javac is not available to weblogic.
    Make sure that PATH environment variable used to start the server includes path to Java SDK bin dir with javac in it.

    I'm trying to deploy an application in WL10.3.2 and an error occurred during activation of changes.
    Here is the error message from the log file:

    In your ejb-jar.xml you are referring to a method saveActionGroup(EditableActionGroup) which is not defined in your remote interface.
    Maybe you have made some typo in the configuration. Check your transaction section, i.e.,
    <container-transaction>
                <method>
                    <ejb-name>ViewBean</ejb-name>
                    <method-name>saveActionGroup</method-name>
                    <method-params>
                        <method-param>package.EditableActionGroup</method-param>
                    </method-params>
                </method>
                <trans-attribute>Required</trans-attribute>
    </container-transaction>or something similar. See if the defined methods are corresponding to the methods defined in the remote interface.

  • How Does Hot Deployment works ?

    Would anyone know about the mechanics of HotDeployment ? When does it actually swap the memory instance of the running ejb with the new deployed one ? What happens with the threads which are currently running with the old instance of EJB ?

    Hot Deploy feature is not "specified" by the J2EE spec. Each vendor has a different way of actually implementing it.
    Basically, each EJB is loaded using a separate ClassLoader. When an updated EJB jar file is detected, the existing ClassLoader is destroyed and a new ClassLoader is created to load the updated EJB. Usually (hopefully!) the implementations make sure that all the threads are completed / at least all transactions are rolled back before destroying the ClassLoader. Again this varies from container to container & version to version.

  • How to hot deploy java class?

    I write some java class and put them into the weblogic\class folder to
    replace the old java class files.
    When I run the program, the server still run the old java class.
    But when I restart the server, the server runs new java class.
    The server must restart, when I want to run new java class?
    thanks

    Does this work ??
    I was unable to achieve hot deployment using REDEPLOY file.

    You need to create a REDEPLOY file and touch the file.
    From the documentations:
    Dynamic Redeployment of Exploded Applications
    You can also dynamically redeploy applications or application components
    that have been deployed in exploded format. When an application has been
    deployed in exploded format, the Administration Server periodically looks
    for a file named REDEPLOY in the exploded application directory. If the
    timestamp on this file changes, the Administration Server redeploys the
    exploded directory.
    If you want to update files in an exploded application directory, do the
    following:
    a.. When you first deploy the exploded application, create an empty file
    named REDEPLOY in the directory where the exploded application resides.
    b.. To update the exploded application, copy the updated files over the
    existing files in that directory.
    c.. After copying the new files, touch the REDEPLOY file in the exploded
    directory to alter its timestamp.
    When the Administration Server detects the changed timestamp, it redeploys
    the contents of the exploded directory.

  • Deploying EJB in Weblogic 8.1 very very urgent

    Hi
    I had followed the logic Mr Mark has told me. But it did not work. Please
    the attached files.
    1. I had copied all of my class files into META-INF directory.
    my SampleObject.jar file contains as follows.
    jar -tvf SampleObject.jar gives
    .META-INF
    .Sample.class, SampleHome.class, SampleBean.class, SampleClient.class and
    ejb-jar.xml,
    weblogic-ejb-jar.xml files.
    I did not package my class files. instead i had deployed it in META-INF.
    Further I made one more attempt as follows.
    My server is called myserver.
    so I copied all of my class files, SampleObject.jar files into the following
    directory.
    C:\bea\user_projects\domains\mydomain\myserver\upload directory. This is the
    directory
    where weblogic copies the SampleObject.jar files.
    It did not work at all.
    Please help me.
    I am failing for the past five days . Treat this as very urgent.
    Thanks in advance.

    Murali:
    I suggest you start with something simple that works. And then go from
    there, modifing it one bit at a time and ensuring that it still works. Your
    jar tf output is all munched up so it is hard to follow. I suggest you
    start with
    $WL_HOME/samples/server/examples/src/examples/splitdir/helloWorldEar/
    See how it builds the ear and the ejb jars and go from there.
    You can do:
    ant ear
    and
    examine the contents from there.
    Alternatively you can use Workshop to build an EJB as well.
    PS. Your classes dont go into META-INF. But rather than go through the
    entire exercise of getting your app working I suggest as noted above you
    start from a known and modify.
    cheers
    mbg

  • Probs in Deploying EJB in weblogic 8.1

    have Made a simple ejb example printing helloworld ,but i m stuck in deployment.what i have done is used meta-inf in the application to store ejb-jar,why m i getting compllation errors inspite of the fact tht the build is successful,i m working in weblogic 8.1.I have already placed meta-inf in src that has pooja folder containing all 3 java files ,and then used the command jar cvf myHello ejb.jar src META-INF and it is giving manifest info i have compared it from a book it is correct,can u plz tell how can i run my ejb once i placed them home ,remote,implemnt,client in pooja folder in src .
    i m getting compile time errs in CreateException,EJBHome,EJBObject,SessionBean :cannot resolve symbol
    and javax.ejb.* that it does not exist.

    Hi,
    Sounds like your java compiler does not know about J2EE classes.
    Try adding weblogic.jar is in your CLASSPATH
    or
    javac -classpath weblogic.jar *.java

  • HOT deployment problem with WebLogic 5.1sp11

    Hello!
    We trying to deploy our EJB (jar contains 5 EJB's) with WebLogic EJB DeployerTool.
    When we registered our jar in the weblogic.properties file - everything is OK.

    Is SP11 jars in the client classpath or not, before launching DeployerTool.
    If yes, then it looks like a bug. You might want to report this problem to

  • How do jsp call ejb in weblogic 6.0?

    I put the jsp in the DefaultWebApp_Server folder and put the ejb jar file in
              the applications folder.
              I use the administrator console to deploy the ejb.
              The ejb package is 'com.test.bmp'.
              Howerver, the jsp can't import the ejb package and can't find the ejb class.
              How do the jsp call the ejb?

    Any classes that are used by the JSP should be in the WEB-INF\classes
              directory. So your bean classes could be in two places if they are
              referenced in a jsp. Make sure the classes are identical.

  • Package and deploy ejb in weblogic 10.3.4?

    When I deploy my EAR file then the EJBs contained within do not show up in the weblogic consoles JNDI viewer. I made a simple testcase with a local interface and a stateless impl class, nothing else.
    Interface class:
    package test;
    import javax.ejb.Local;
    @Local
    public interface TestLocal {
         public String hello();
    Impl class:
    package test.impl;
    import javax.ejb.Stateless;
    import testl.TestLocal;
    @Stateless(name="test", mappedName="test")
    public class TestImpl implements TestLocal {
         @Override
         public String hello() {
              return "hello";
    Thats all the ejb jar contains. Its packaged in an EAR file with an META-INF/application.xml containing:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <application xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee/application_5.xsd" version="5">
    <display-name>myapp</display-name>
    <module>
    <web>
    <web-uri>web-0.0.1-SNAPSHOT.war</web-uri>
    <context-root>/web</context-root>
    </web>
    </module>
    <module>
    <ejb>ejb-0.0.1-SNAPSHOT.jar</ejb>
    </module>
    <library-directory>lib</library-directory>
    </application>
    Am I missing something in my packaging? I have no EJB descriptor but that should be OK with java ee 5.

    I found out weblogic dosent expose local interfaces in the global jndi tree because its not required by ejb 3.0 (but will be in 3.1?). I had to add this to web.xml:
         <ejb-local-ref>
              <ejb-ref-name>ejb/Test</ejb-ref-name>
              <local>test.TestLocal</local>
         </ejb-local-ref>
    Now I can get hold of the bean from the war using :
    TestLocal test = (TestLocal) ctx.lookup("java:comp/env/ejb/Test");
