How to identify 32 or 64 bits Java

How do we identify if a Java installed is a 32 or 64 bits?

Why do you want to know? There's nothing different when your program runs on one or the other kind of platform.
An int is always 32 bits, a long is always 64 bits, doesn't matter if the underlying platform has a 32-bit or 64-bit processor.
You can use System.getProperties() (see the API documentation) to find some information about the JVM and platform your Java program is running on.

  • How to identify a false 64-bit driver?

Since upgrading to Lion on my iMac (2.93 GHz, i7 with 16 GB) I often—usually, in fact—have kernel panics upon restarts. Inquiring about this on another Mac site brought a response suggesting that when upgrading to 10.7 a 32-bit driver slipped through, probably falsely indicating that it is 64-bit; restarting in 32 bit eliminates the kernel panics, suggesting that this is the case.
My question here: is there any way to identify what this false 64-bit driver is so that I can remove it?
    Much thanks for any help.

    Thanks for the quick response.
I just induced a kernel panic (i.e., not holding down 3-2 during startup) and here is the report from /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports:

  • How to determine IE type(32 bit or 64 bit) in a task sequence while updating Java

How to determine IE type(32 bit or 64 bit) in a task sequence
    Hi,
Currently i have to update new version of Java after removing all the previous existing version of Java by using TS in SCCM 2007.
we have both 32 bit and 64 bit browser in the environment. I am stucked in determining whether the browser is of 32 bit or 64 bit.
How to determine IE type(32 bit or 64 bit) in a task sequence so that respective java can be installed for that IE browser.
    will highly appreciate quick response.
    Thanks in advance.
    Daya

But you also need to install JRE x86 on x64 systems, since most people actually use the 32bit browsers on x64 systems.
The detection logic is actually pretty simple -- just check the right registry hive to find the installation location of the BIN\JAVA.DLL. Both pathnames are stored in HKLM\Software\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment\1.7 in the registry value "JavaHome",
but the x86 path is stored in the 32-bit hive and the x64 path is stored in the 64-bit hive.

  • HT5367 How can I tell if I have 64 bit Java installed on my mac? I have something like Minecraft on it and I want to install 64 bit java on my mac. PLEASE HELP! Thanks!

I just need a bit help on how to install 64 bit java, i searched on youtube for it but it came up with many that I don't know much about. Please recommend a video you guys trust or know about. thanks

You can use 3rd party software such as Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper! to create a bootable clone on an external drive.
I use SuperDuper to create a clone. Yes, it's true the Recovery HD will need to be recreated after restoring a clone because neither of these softwares nor Time Machine backup that partition. It's really no big deal. You just reinstall Lion on top of itself after the restore and reapply any Software Updates including the 10.7.1 update. I've done this a few times with no issues.
The Lion Recovery Assistant app creates an external Recovery HD on like a USB thumb drive, but it creates this using the Recovery HD from your Lion install. If the Recovery HD is missing, the app will not create one for you.
    EDITED:
Create your bootable clone on an external drive.
Create an external USB thumb drive with the Recovery HD using the Lion Recovery Assistant.
    Swap out hard drives.
Boot from the USB Recovery HD thumb drive.
Use Disk Utilities to create a new partition (Macintosh HD), format it with the GUID partition table and Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
While in Disk Utilities, click your hard drive (not the new partition); then click the Restore button.
The Source of your restore is the external clone you created. The Destination is the newly created Macintosh HD partition.
Click the Restore button. The restore will take awhile depending on the size of the clone.
After the restore, boot your system and it should boot into Lion.
Reinstall Lion on top of itself to recreate the Recovery HD at the end of your Lion partition.
Reapply Software Updates including the 10.7.1 update (if you want it).
    Hope this helps!

  • How do you switch between 64-bit and 32-bit Java configuration?

I've downloaded the latest Java plug-in for an online service, but when I go to run the service on Safari or Firefox browsers, I get a message that 32-bit Java is needed and my machine is running 64-bit.  How do you switch back and forth?

Similar concern here. No 64 bit version. I purchased the Photoshop CS5 downloadable upgrade. I  have installed the program but only see the 32 bit version. Image  / Mode shows 8, 16 and 32 bit versions and no 64 bit.
Start Programs offers only a single version of Photoshop which based on the splash screen is 32 bits. Did I miss something during the install?

I wish to make a bank deposit with my scanner.  My bank requires 32 bit JAVA.  The JAVA on this Mac Mini seems to have the 2 JAVA's connected together.  I can change the order of default but not turn off 64 bit JAVA.  I think I need to run only the 32 bit...

I found some instructions that might work.  I'm using an old PC keyboard.  Is there a apple COMMAND-1 button on this type of keyboard ?  If so, which one ?

  • How to identify the installed Weblogic Server and JDK are 32bit or 64bit?

    Hi everyone,
    I have a question ~
Both Weblogic Server and JAVA JDK are installed on the server already, but I only know the Weblogic Server is 10.3.4.0 and JAVA JDK version is 1.6.0_25.
I know the 64bit Weblogic Server installation file is a wlsXXXX_generic.jar package and 64bit JAVA JDK needed also.
But, since the Weblogic installed already, there are no such installation files on the Linux Server now.
I have tried the "java -version" for java version and check the Weblogic version from Weblogic console.
How to identify the installed Weblogic Server and JDK are 32bit or 64bit with Linux command? Or is there any way to check it?

What you can try to do is use WLST (or an MBean browser, such as JConsole or JRockit Mission Control) and connect to the adminserver.
    For example when using WLST:
    # set the environment by using setWLSEnv.sh (located in the ${WL_HOME}/server/bin directory).
    # start WLST by using: java weblogic.WLST
    # connect to the adminserver
    connect('adminusername','adminpassword');
    # change to the serverruntime environment
    serverRuntime();
    # show the attributes
    ls();
    # Here an attribute is shown called WebLogicVersion that shows the version of WebLogic
    -r--   WeblogicVersion                              WebLogic Server 10.3.5.0  Fri Apr 1 20:20:06 PDT 2011 1398638
    # Note that this does not show if is 32 bits or 64 bits to retrieve this information you have obtain the JVM version
    # change the directory
    cd('JVMRuntime/AdminServer');
    # show the attributes
    ls();
    -r--   Version                                      R28.0.1-21-133393-1.6.0_20-20100512-2126-linux-x86_64
    # when you have something like x86 at the you are running a 32 bit version, if you have something like x86_64 you are running a 64 bits versionAs mentioned above you can also retrieve this information by using a MBean browser.

  • SetDiagnosticDirectory(Diagnostics.java:54) [32-bit java on 64-bit machine]

On 64-bit LucidLynx Linux, If I run Oracle SQL Developer using 64 bit java, all is fine.
If I use 32-bit java, it doesn't start up and I get this fatal error:
    java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Cannot create <pwd>/?/.sqldeveloper/system1.5.5.59.69/o.ide/diagnostics
         at oracle.javatools.logging.Diagnostics.setDiagnosticDirectory(Diagnostics.java:54)
         at oracle.ide.IdeCore.startupImpl(IdeCore.java:1293)
<pwd> represents the current directory that I am in. That question mark appears as is.
If I run this as `sudo`, it works, cause it gets past the "permissions" problem. (but that's a red herring).
It should be trying to create the ".sqldeveloper/..." directory under my home directory, not in the present
working directory, and certainly not with a question mark as another directory name.
It appears that when using the 32 bit java (on a 64 bit machine), that whatever function
Oracle is using/spawning to determine the user and its
home directory, is failing, and the code just says, plop the diagnostics directory right here.
    How does one debug this?
(I tried running `jdb` but setting break points doesn't seem to have an effect)
( Aside: on a 32-bit LucidLynx Linux machine, using 32-bit java, SQL Developer works fine.
I have all the necessary 32-bit libs, as we use 32-bit Java on 64 bit machines for other apps as well.)

I'm pretty new to java and this is the first
first time i'm making a post here. I want to know, if
i write a java program in a 32 bit environment will
the same code work in a 64 bit Environment too. Does
java abstract the architecture too?Only if there's a JVM available for the target environment.
Note for example that Sun supports 64 bit AMD processors but not Intel. But when they do your Java code will work without changes.

Ops Center bundles the Java runtime in the installation but it will not install it if there's a newer version already installed.
In your case, you only have 32 bits version installed which is newer, so Ops Center cannot continue as you cannot install a lower version of the 64 bits.
This will tell you the 32 bits version:
    # pkgparam SUNWj7rt VERSION
You're probably missing the SUNWj7rtx - which is the 64 bit version.
This will probably give you an error (this will check the 64-bit java version):
    # pkgparam SUNWj7rtx VERSION
To see if you have it installed:
    # pkginfo | grep SUNWj7rtx
To resolve this, you should install the same version in 64 bits (SUNWj7rtx) and then try the Ops Center installation again.

  • How to create a scripting language in java?

    Hello,
All that I want to do is to create a scripting language in java. Im familiar with javacc, jsr223 and other things but dont know how to start. The language syntax is java 5 syntax with some change and I want to generate java source code from small scripts. In fact I dont know how other languages (like groovy) are created.
I hope you can show me the required steps.
Looking forward to hear from you.
    Thanks.

    That's all, huh?
For a start, generally when I hear "scripting language" I'm thinking interpretter, not a system which creates compiled (or compilable) code.
I get the impression that what you're talking about is what I'd call a "preprocessor" language, some extra syntax added to java which the preprocessor renders into ordinary java.
As far as complexity is concerned, much depends on how deeply involved the extra syntax is with the embedded ordinary Java. Does you preprocessor need to understand the java, or is it just embedded as text? How easilly identified are your preprocesor statments? It's a lot easier to do this if preprocessor lines are instantly identifiable from Java code (e.g. start with a #).
    Basically the stages are always the same;
    1) Lexical analysis i.e. picking out words, operators, numbers, quoted strings.
    2) Construct a syntax tree.
    3) Generate code (in this case Java).
Now, in this case, some of the nodes in the syntax tree may simply be chunks of undigested Java.

  • How to pass a file into a java method

I am trying to pass a file into a java method so I can read the file from inside the method. How can I do this? I am confident passing int, char, arrays etc into methods as I know how to identify them in a methods signature but I have no idea how to decalre a file in a mthods signature. Any ideas please ?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Just go thru the URL,
    http://www6.software.ibm.com/devtools/news1001/art24.htm#toc2
I hope you will get a fair understanding of 'what is pass by reference/value'.
You can pass Object reference as an argument.
What Pablo Lucien had written is right. But the ideal situation is if you are not modifying the
file in the calling method, then you can pass the String (file name) as an argument to the called method.

    Hi BalusC
    Thanks for your reply.
Is there any other approach to do this ?
because as per your approach my code will not work because you are using seperate bean.
If i try to compare your code with my code then I have to do changes in my entity bean which is not possible.
So is there any other way ,

  • How to identify the name of my smtp-mail host dynamically?

    Hi,
I want to send an email from my system which has an internet connection.
    I don't know how to identify and mention the name of my smtp server ie; the smtp-host name that should be mentioned in my propetries object 'props' as props("mail.smtp.host","smtphostname");
I want this program to work on other systems also,ie; It should dynamically find out what is the smtp-email host for the computer on which the program is running and set the smtp-host name in the 'properties' object dynamically.
I will be thankful if anybody sends me code to solve this problem.
    Thank u in advance,
    Ravi.

Write a mail scan to look for typical settings
    such as domain, mail.domain, smtp.domain, smtp.mail.domain
where domain is after @ in an email address
Have a SocketSearch class that uses non blocking via java.nio.channels.*
so it can be interruptable and scan for these typical mail settings on default port 25 - The code using these interruptable socket can each be threaded to find the host/port and should find it in seconds
Once found, store the settings in a configuration so you don't have to scan again unless it doesn't work anymore...
If can't find the socket host/port via typical settings, next use a Java class that does a nslookup based on MX records - For example if you type "nslookup -type=mx javasoft.com" and you get mail exchanger = mail.java.sun.com and if you "telnet mail.java.sun.com 25" - you can see the port is open for sending emails.
No expert in MX records for a domain to find the exact one and someone else can share some light on this...
