How to identify clients connecting to a database

Is there a way to identify all clients connecting to a database? We have a system with over 1000 client connections, and the application teams do not know what clients are installed on each server/client.

Does this help?

    How to change a connection with the database in Runtime?
    My connection was made using ADF Business component (ApplicationModule).
    ADF Swing.
    JDeveloper Studio 11.1.1.4.0.

    When deploying ADF applications with database connection, you should be using JDBC data sources configured in the weblogic server.
    You could change the JDBC data sources to a different DB instance or location - by changing the JDBC data source and restarting the weblogic server.

  • How to identify different connections/clients from RMIServer???

    Anyone knows how one can do to identify different connections or clients from the implementation/server-object in RMI?? Do I have to send a hostname from the client via method parameter?? If so, any recommendations on which unique name to use??
    Would really appreciate any answer to this!!! - thanx in advance!
    ps; tried currentThread.getName(), but it would return different names from same client (changing at each call).
    /Alejandro

    Hi,
    in order to identify clients I maintain a hash with references to
    the clients. The clients register and unregister with special
    remote methods of the server RMI object.
    I didn't see an API in RMI to do this for me. And it was fairly easy to implement.
    Have fun,

How come this values reset to null? What is causing this to reset?Nothing in this has anything to do with the sever. You need to check what the client did on his machine that caused registry to get modified?
    How does oracle ODBC works with Oracle database? Need to know all the steps involved?The connectoin from any client is initiated by a client process. This client process is supposed to get a server process to do his work. So if this is done, the client can work now with oracle . Please see the concepts guide for the gory details of the entire process.

  • How to get clients connected in WMS on windows server 2008 with c# coding

    Sorry to bother anyone about this question.
    Can anyone knows how to retrieve amount of client connection to Windows Media Server in real time same as WMS does on server console by c# programming ?
    I got logfiles of WMS in system32 directory for details but it must be off-line of all connections which will able to get those informations for doing anything,but in this case I want real time client connection
    at online when a client connects to WMS that I will get amout of that client also.
    I have tried to search Windows Media Service SDK to develop this on my Windows 7 OS,but I did not find that really.

    Hi SYaGCi,
    Denis is right this is actually documented in the Supported Platforms Documentation:
    "Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 are new platform support additions in Service Pack 3 which are only available for support on the SP3 full release install of SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise. The SP3 patch only release of SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise does not provide support for these two new platforms."

  • How to create a Connection to UDB Database through OIM APIs.?

    Hi,
    In our OIM (9.1.0.2) implementation, there is a need to connect to a UDB database to execute some select queries and get the data. Is there any way in which I can do this?
    I tried creating an ITResource to have all static database related information, but I was not able to use that ITResource and create an actual database connection in the java code.
    As far as possible, I don't want to use any JDBC code to create the connection but want to know if there are any inbuilt OIM APIs which can help me in creating a database connection to point to the UDB database.
    (We don't have the DBUM connector deployed.)
    Please get back with your views/info on this.
    Thanks,
    Kulesh...

    Here is a constructor code for connecting to a database:
         public DatabaseConnection(String hostname, String port, String driver, String sid, String admin, String password) throws ClassNotFoundException, SQLException{
              log.info(CLASS_NAME + " -----> inputs=hostname[" + hostname +
                        "]port[" + port +
                        "]driver[" + driver +
                        "]sid[" + sid +
                        "]admin[" + admin +
                        "]password[********]");
              Properties connectionProps=new Properties();
         connectionProps.setProperty("user", admin);
         connectionProps.setProperty("password", password);
         String url = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=" + hostname +
              ")(PORT=" + port +
              "))(CONNECT_DATA=(SID=" + sid + ")))";
         Class.forName(driver);
              con = null;
         con = DriverManager.getConnection(url, connectionProps);
    If you want to use SSL, you will want to configure tcps for jdbc connection to the database, or any other form of connection and update your URL string for it.

  • How to identify client and server versions

    Hi all,
    Ok, this may sound silly, but I have to write an application to access an Oracle database. Prior development in other languages has used ODBC and works fine. VS.NET using the OLE DB works as well.
    However, I installed the ODT with ODAC 11.10.6.21 and tried that. I get an error trying to access the data.
    When I execute the conn.open(), I get:
    ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified
    I have opened the TNSNames.ora file and used that to create the connection string just in case. But I still get the error.
    My guess is that either the client on my system is too old or the Oracle Server is still running an old version.
    Is there an easy way for me to identify the latest client I have installed as well as the version of Oracle that is running on the server?
    No, I can't just ask the people who manage the server or I would have done so already. I am a contractor here and it is very hard for me to get through to anyone who might know.

  • Typical resolution logic for client connection request (Oracle Database 11g)

    Salam, hello everyone, I would know the process that oracle follows to connect a client to a database (local or remote connection) via this command : connect username/password[@connect_identifier].
    Can someone help me with that?

    The first decision is whether the connect request includes a connection string or not.  Examples:
    This does,
    connect [email protected]
    An this doesn't,
    connect /
    Your question regarding "LOCAL env var" I think is referring to client environment variables? They are tested with decisions for TNS_ADMIN,ORACLE_SID, and ORACLE_HOME at several points. Remember that the client process may be running on a remote machine, or on the server machine from the same Oracle Home as the instance or different.
    That should give you a good start. If it doesn't, post your email and I'll send you a full description. The usual route for contacting authors is through the publisher, but we can short-circuit the process here.
    Don't worry about Mr Bakker thinking that we do not understand SQL*Net. He has not seen any context, and his constructive criticism is based in incomplete data. You will soon understand SQL*Net better than most.
    Please remove the diagram.

  • Please help, urgent! How to hold the connection to oracle database

    I used java to connect Oracle database using thin driver. But I found out the connection will be closed very soon if I did not make any request of query. I query the database like after 1 mins without doing anything, my application will dead for about 2 mins, then everything become normal again.
    How can I hold the connection or is there any other solution? thank you!

    Duffy is, as usual, correct. If you have a single-user environment, then holding onto a connection is probably okay (not desirable but also not pernicious). However, once you have more than one user, you will want to use a connection pool. Jakarta Commons (jakarta.apache.org) has an open source pool that is reliable.
    But the fact that you are having additional problems makes me believe you are missing a few fundamental concepts, such as transactions. Even if the connection dropped, you should be able to reconnect without issue (granted, with some additional latency). The only time it would pose an issue (above and beyond the ones mentioned above and in previous replies) is if you are not managing your transactions properly.
    In short, take some tutorials on JDBC, DataSource, connection pools and transaction management.

  • How to identify that my physical standby database in use real time apply?

    Hi,
    Can any one give me the SQL to identifiy that my physical standby database is in real time applying redo logs?
    Its urgen please....
    Thanks.

    You could just look at the alert log. Look for "Recovery of Online Redo Log"
    Or you could select from v$standby_apply_snapshot to see if the standby is up-to-date.
    select thread#, to_char(snapshot_time,'dd-mon-yyyy:hh24:mi'),
    to_char(applied_time,'dd-mon-yyyy:hh24:mi'),
    to_char(newest_time,'dd-mon-yyyy:hh24:mi') from V$STANDBY_APPLY_SNAPSHOT;
